I loved this dinner tonight! I ordered the oyster omelette, mutton satay, and pineapple fried rice. The oysters were briny, plump, and gooey but still fresh. The omelette was crispy, but you’ll need to dip it in the sauce, otherwise it doesn’t have much flavor. The mutton satay was tender and smoky, paired perfectly with the sweet peanut sauce, they even added rice cakes on the side. The pineapple fried rice was smoky and savory, with just the right hint of sweetness from the pineapple that made it really tasty. If you're around the Esplanade area, this spot could be a great option! Pro Tip: Bring your own tissue, as the restaurant doesn't provide any.

Google
One of the, if not THE best Hawker Stall in Singapore. Lau Pa Sat is overpriced, has no view and is packed with lost tourist pushing around their suitcases. I highly recommend Makansutra Gluttons Bay to everyone for anyone entertaining out of town guests, as your able to choose from multiple cuisines in a beautiful outdoor setting overlooking the bay. You can't beat it. We've had some of the best meals here.

Google
Hot and humid, tables are dirty because there aren’t enough cleaners because of the government‘s stupid initiative. Stalls change quite often but the taste of the food here is usually decent or good. Convenient if you are in the area for activities or events.

Google
It’s like a food center where you can enjoy savoury, sweet, and drinks. After meal, you can take a walk to enjoy the view down there.

Food are quite good, mostly a bit pricey, but worth visiting since the surrounding areas are nice for chilling. The oyster omelette is nice.

The place is very touristy. Food varieties are very limited. But the atmosphere is good as it is near the water front of Esplanade.

Google
As a local, I was initially not very impressed with the list of stalls when I checked it out prior to my visit. However, I had to change my opinion after trying out the food. Most of the dishes we tried were delicious, and above-average. It is a nice place to bring friends from overseas to try local food. The place is clean and relatively comfortable compared to other hawker centres in Singapore. The view is awesome.

Yelp
It may be a tourist trap hawker centre, but the view is great, there's just enough seating, and of course, the location is super convenient if you're already at one of the many nice hotels right in the heart of Marina Bay. The selection is good, the stalls are quick, efficient, and tasty, and yes, there are fans and umbrellas at the tables so you don't die from the heat. As someone who is often right in the area and wants to hit a hawker stall without having a 20 minute-plus trek downstairs to the subway or bus to some of the better centres... and is tired of mall food (to be fair, many mall food courts here are delicious!), this one is still plenty tasty enough for bak kut teh, and it feels more than authentic enough.

Yelp
This hawker center has an amazing view of marina bay sands. Lots of choices here with great food. I recommend bringing cash because some of the ones that accept credit card seem to have issues with the machines, save yourself the time of having to walk to ATM in mall next door. I recommend the fresh juice stall to get you started, then make your way through the different stalls getting some satay and other dishes. Now keep in mind this is a more upscale version of the typical hawker center, but it does a good job of not making it feel fake. Lots of seating here or you can go eat by the water and enjoy the great views!

Yelp
Back in 2019, our first evening ended here at this hawker center. We got here around 10pm and I was surprised on how many people were there late at night eating food. They had lots of choices of food to choose from. It was kinda of hard decide what to get since everything sounded so good. I ended up trying the oyster omelette. We also ended up getting some other dishes like the chili crab. The food here is really good. Good food for late night meal.

Yelp
This hawker center is located right next (or behind) a very trendy area. When we first arrived here on our first night after walking around Gardens by the bay, at first we almost missed this place because they weren't quite opened yet and there is also a very trendy/high end eating court right before the entrance. When you find it though it feels like you are in a other part of town. Though this hawker center is smaller than other centers around town, there are so many good stalls with so many varieties of cuisines ranging from sweet to savoury and even an exclusive drinks stall. We had ordered from 4 stalls and spend only $20 cad which was well worth it. I recommend trying all of the stalls based on the type of food you are craving. However I would specifically recommend the fresh juice stall located at the very end. It's about $1 per drink but it's very refreshing in the heat

Yelp
After a fun time at Gardens by the Bay we walked across the Helix Bridge to Makansutra Glutton Bay! Why? Because I wanted some chili and black pepper crab! What kind of foodie am I to travel to Singapore and not eat their staple dish! This area have a few hawker stands aligned, not the biggest hawker center but good enough! Tables are hard to come by if you don't get there early, good thing we didn't have that problem! Each stall offers something different but what caught my eyes was the crab and satay stall! You have the option of picking what size crab you want and how you want it. I got black pepper crab, chili crab and pineapple fried rice topped with floss! Just a fun fact! The crabs in Singapore that they use for these dishes are the Sri Lanka crabs which resembles a Dungeness crab but more sweet and firm! The satay was amazing! Don't forget to get a refreshing Tiger beer with your meal and pack wet wipes for your hands! You're going to need it! CHEERS!

Yelp
Best satay and meegoreng we've had this week. Updated and clean atmosphere and very comfortable. Very friendly and helpful hawker fare owners. Love the variety here and definitely higher end nicer hawker center.

Yelp
This place is a good introduction to hawker centers of Singapore. Now if you're a local reading this, don't murder me or worse downvote me, BUT for tourists this is a great place: Great location Limited selection (yes that can be a good thing) Always packed (so you can see popular choices by discretely starring at peoples food) Prices higher, but still cheap for tourists Better than overpriced drinking Esplanade pubs Black and White Carrot Cake - my favorite white after Lau Pa Sat hawker center Great for people watching

Yelp
**** 3 1/2 Stars*** Makansutra Gluttons Bay is an upscale outdoor dining experience that emulates the famous Singapore hawker centers. The stalls change but it is a diverse mix of food. The location is great- right in the Marina Bay area and near many businesses. On our visit we ordered chicken rice from one stall, butter chicken, biryani, and naan bread from another stall, and Tiger beer for drinks (when in Singapore). There are plenty of tables but I could see small groups sharing tables, especially during busy times. We were there later in the evening and easily found a table. The biryani and butter chicken was good. The rice was spicy and flavorful. The naan bread was delicious too. For the chicken rice, we tried it two ways- the traditional boiled chicken as well as the roasted chicken which looked and tasted similar to rotisserie chicken. Both my husband and I preferred the roasted style take of the chicken. The rice had a good flavor- the black sauce is a must and adds to the flavor of the chicken. The prices are what made my review 3 1/2 stars. Typically food at hawker centers are very affordable. The food here was on the higher side. You're probably also paying for the location and experience. Overall good food. However, if you want a more traditional hawker center experience, I would try a different spot.

Yelp
With no more than ten vendors, Makansutra Gluttons Bay is one of the smaller hawker centers in Singapore. Food variety is more limited here, so choices aren't overwhelming. It gets very crowded around 7pm, so finding a seat may be challenging. And because it's adjacent to Marina Bay and a few shopping centers, it's very touristy. There was quite a plethora of food shared among three adults: steamed conch, BBQ sambal stingray, gai lan, shrimp hokkien mee, beef and chicken satay, and tahu goreng. For me, the satay and the stingray struck me as the most delicious and interesting, respectively. The beef and chicken satay were delicious and smokey with very tender and moist meat. The complementing dipping sauce for the satay wasn't necessary, but it added extra tangy and sweet flavors. The BBQ sambal stingray was peculiar and a little difficult to eat while trying to neatly remove the flesh away from the bones, but the generous slather of spicy sambal paste was flavorful. Overall, I was more than satisfied with the food and environment. Situated next to Marina Bay, Makansutra provides a mild breeze from the bay with beautiful waterfront views. The location is perfect for a gluttonous dinner and then a stroll along the waterfront afterwards. And this hawker center is open from 5pm until as late as 3am in the morning! I can understand why some people are disappointed with the small size and limited variety here at Makansutra, but my motto is less is more. Too many options tend to be overwhelming in my book.

Yelp
Don't bother, they are closed for renovations until December 1st. Unfortunately, we won't get to try their hawker stalls.

Yelp
A nice food court that has 8-10 upscale hawker centers right in the heart of CBD near Esplanade. Have been here multiple times. The prices are higher than hawker centers elsewhere, so they are charging a premium for the location. Food overall is pretty decent, nothing that will blow your mind though.

Yelp
The location is good and the food is ok. I wish it had more variety. I really liked this place but was less impressed when compared to the other hawker centers in the area.

Yelp
This review is particularly for a certain stand that is named "Old Satay Club Mee Goreng" that specializes in Singaporean Muslim food. They have a vegetarian curry every day and the roti Prata is delicious. I was staying at the Mandarian Oriental and this place is right up front. I wish I knew that the first night when I ordered expensive room service that was less than satisfying. Singapore has great hawker food but vegetarian hawker food can be hard to find. This is an easy walk from the helix bridge or if you're staying at any of the marina area hotels. Ample seating, cheap beers, delicious. Service was phenomenal at this stand as well, they remembered me from 2 nights ago and even what I had ordered. Impressive since this hawker court is busy. Open late as well, not sure how long but I believe 1 am... I went both nights around 11:30pm and everything was open and with a crowd.

Yelp
At first glance Gluttons Bay is just another "tourist trap", and some would liken it to another Newton Circus. In truth, I prefer Gluttons Bay a lot more than Newton Circus, and would definitely recommend it to my tourist friends! The view here is fantastic, look out to Marina Bay Sands, Esplanade, and Fullerton Hotel. Open air dining, cool breeze and not too stuffy. What is there not to like? It is a great place to show off Singapore's pretty skyline to your tourist friends! In terms of price, I'd say it is pretty fair for eating in town. Definitely dont compare it to your local hawker centre/ coffee shop prices, but I do find the prices reasonable for the portions, quality and location. Food quality is pretty decent and fairly authentic too. How better to experience the best of Singapore's local cuisines. They may not be from the "best" hawker, but they are definitely authentic and good enough for tourists to get a good taste. I also like how the hawker stalls dont come around the harrass you to order from them (like in Newton Circus). Definitely recommended!

Yelp
It's too easy to hate on Makansutra Gluttons Bay and write it off as a tourist trap with the same intensity that San Franciscans decry Fisherman's Wharf. It honestly isn't that bad, and on a cool breezy night, is worth the visit if anything just for Singapore hawker food under the stars with a view of Marina Bay Sands and the nightly laser light show. Now the food isn't amazing but isn't horrible either. Curated by Makansutra, I won't be surprised if there is some kick-back for KF Seetoh since there were some odd choices for the stalls. For example I don''t think Filipino food is an accurate representation of Singaporean hawker food if you were forced to narrow it down to 10 stalls; maybe the evolution of hawker food, but definitely not an epitome of it. Still the paradox of choice is minimized here and you can focus on just a couple of stalls. I had the char kuay teow and ngo hiang (a disappearing hawker dish in itself) and they were both decent. You probably find better elsewhere in the city but we weren't complaining. Other stalls that looked appealing included the bbq seafood and the satay. Both stalls have longer lines though. Prices weren't painfully higher and again, you do get a nice view. It can get humid so cross your fingers for a crosswind

Yelp
Comparing to the other Hawkers centers, this place costed a little more which is still very cheap.. I liked this place because it was close to our hotel, and it seems cleaner. I wanted to give the crab another try here, since i looks prettier and cleaner. The chicken rice here is pretty good, not as cheap as Tian Tian, but chicken rice is chicken rice to me! I know! I'm a tourist and I probably don't know the differences.. WHO CARES!! 3.5 tourist stars!!

Yelp
I was hoping to give a much higher rating, based on what I read in different travel guides. It does offer a nice selection of ecclectic foods, It is a fun frenzy of people and a nice spot on the waterfront. But it's surprisingly limited, compared to other hawker centers. I found vast more variety at Newton Food Court, and even at some of the indoor food malls. And getting a table here is like an olympic sport! I enjoyed the food, but after watching my Char Kway Teow being cooked in a huge round steel pot, along with everyone else's (with no cleaning in-between) and lots of oil ladled on, it wasn't a surpise that I had major indigestion afterwards. I'm not saying this is the sole cause, but let's just say that I felt immediate discomfort within 20 minutes of having half a serving and it continued for the rest of the evening. After writing this review, I noticed another Yelp reviewer had the exact same problem with the same dish a couple years ago. I'm giving it the food centre 3 stars because I think it has a lot to offer- I would give it another round if I was in the area.

Yelp
As a tourist visiting Singapore for a couple of days, not surprisingly we dropped by Makansutra Gluttons Bay after a nice walk around the area: Esplanade and Merlion. I cannot comment on much on the food stalls or the food itself because this place is just too dark! Sitting on the bench eating my Char Kway Teow I could just guess what inside the noodles because it just looked brownish? Most of the stalls closed down early on weekdays and it was quiet when we were there and it was not even that late? 10:30 ish? Right now they are closed for renovation and hopefully the lighting can improve and more interesting food stalls would be added.

Yelp
Great range of specialties here with good options which are very affordable. Fab views over Marina Bay and lots of seating for grabbing your food for eating on site. Open late till 1am - we were there chatting whilst munching food till nearly 3am so a good late night spot which is uncommon in Singapore. Getting here early will give you more options. We didn't arrive till just before midnight due to working late and by that point, many vendors had sold out. Beer and soft drinks are available / a tiger beer can is $5 sing and the lime juice (first stall as you arrive) is $3.50 sing and is a really lovely balance of sweet and tanginess. I had eaten earlier but the guys got the local chicken and rice dish, chicken satay, veggies and soup (all x2) and it cost them $10 sing each. Well worth a visit for a cheap feed with great views.

Yelp
festive atmosphere. Cheap food considering the location. Tons of choices. Can be very hot and humid. If you don't mind the heat then this place is a must try.

Yelp
Was less impressed with Makansutra Gluttons Bay than I had hoped. The location is great if you are staying in the Marina area and don't want to head further afield for another market. There are about 10 stalls here with 3 of them specializing in chili crab, so the variety is disappointing. It definitely felt like a tourist trap but if you don't want to slog up and down the stairs, through the malls to get to some further afield Hawker Centre, this location does exist and the view is pretty special in this area.
google avatar

Joanna T.

Yelp
Had a team dinner here when a couple of colleagues from abroad came to visit. We ordered from almost every stall and it's disappointing to say that not one dish was impressive! Things are either too bland, too salty, too sweet (the Chili crab...), or lacking that unique wok-hei taste that makes or breaks most of our noodle dishes. Yes, while it's not always easy to find good hawker food, you'd expect something at least of a reasonable standard for somewhere that's often visited by people who want an idea of what "Singapore food" is like. At least the location is good, close to nearby attractions that tourists may want to visit. But, would definitely recommend somewhere else for a better local food experience. (Don't waste your belly space!! And money too)

Eva E.

Yelp
Milo $1.80 on the signage but the lady charged me $2.10, so I asked how come, and she sarcastically said "you asked for ice so additional 30 cents". That aside, it is the worst ice Milo I've ever had - it's basically just loaded with sugar and water, not much Milo taste at all. Wish they would just be clear on their pricing and I don't mind to pay more but at least make it a decent drink, not undercut with the Milo.

Yelp
The food here is amazing and the vibe is great. There are a lot of food options because there are multiple stands with a variety of different foods, so you're not only limited to one thing. Seating is kind of difficult, however. We went a couple of times around dinnertime and it took us close to 20 minutes to find a table each time. We went for dessert once and it was pretty easy to grab a table since it was later in the evening. You basically have to walk around and catch people as they're leaving. Once they get up, you stand next to the table and wave the busboy down to have them clear up the plates. Oh, the food! Since we went here a few times during our stay in Singapore, we managed to eat quite a few dishes. We had the chili crabs, fried carrot cake, (those two were my favorites), satay, chicken rice, duck rice, and ice kacang (it's like snow cone) for dessert. We had a few other things, but I can't think of the names of it, but this is an amazing place to eat. Check it out if you're in Singapore.
google avatar

Mee V.

Yelp
This place is absolutely magical at night! The hustle and bustle here is worthy of every tourists' trip. Seating is sparse during peak times, but people eat and leave so seats open up quickly. People don't linger around for hours. The Merlion waterfront and theater are both nearby making this hawker a nice attraction.
google avatar

Paul T.

Yelp
Good starter pack of food choices of what outdoor foodcourts of Singaporeans have to offer. They have a lot of choices and different vendors. Some really expensive, some really cheap. Just be cautious and be sure your pallet can handle whatever you buy. Seat hunting is hell, be prepared to actively look for seating. If it doesnt work out, bring your plate out to the benches of the waterfront and enjoy the view. Just be sure to bring back the dishes. The food is average. The experience is amazing. Hit this place at least once to get a feel for this city in its "somewhat" facade.
google avatar

Yelp
If I could, I would rate it as 4 1/2 stars. Overall, this was my favorite hawker centre that I visited in Singapore. Located next to the water, with a great view of Marina Bay Sands, this is the place you want to eat at night. This place was so good, we came here two nights in a row. Again, there aren't a ton of choices to eat, but you'll want to spend some time looking at all of the food choices available to you. First night: Combo G satay platter: can't remember the name, but it was near the fruit juice place at one end of the stalls. You get big pieces of shrimp, along with chicken, beef, lamb, etc. for 28 SGD Chili crab: we ordered these at the other end of the stalls, and it was really good. For 490 SGD, we got two crabs smothered in a really good chili sauce (not too spicy). You must get the Mantou buns as well (lightly fried pieces of dough) to sop up all of the sauce. Samba sting ray: same stall as the chili crab place. This dish was really good, not too spicy, but after eating the satay and the crab, we were too stuffed to finish this. Second night: Grilled chicken wings: nice and smokey Salted egg crab and black pepper crab: we already had the chili crab the previous night, so we went to another stall and got two other crab preparations. It was 70 SGD for these two, but they gave us a lot of Mantou buns for free. Both versions were tasty as well, but I liked the chili crab version the best. Coming here at night, finding a table next to the water, and eating crab: I don't think that it can get any better than this. As with everywhere else, bring your own napkins ( I didn't see a hand washing station here).
google avatar

Lili K.

Yelp
We came here a couple of times and had a good amount of food from a couple of spots. We came so late, not many places were open at the time! But it's pretty clean and crowded here, and it's at a good location (right by the water and near the Marina Bay Sands and mall).
google avatar

Sonia T.

Yelp
It's like an upscale hawker center basically with better views. I like to walk around the Marina on the weekends, as they usually have some kind of band playing on Saturdays and Sunday evenings, and decided to walk over and grab some grub here. $5 Tiger beer, and a variation of options. I forgot the stall name I ate at, the second to the end, and had peking fried rice, and some soft shell crab. Both were excellent. Nothing here is really what I would call cheap, but decent prices, and an excellent place to come with a group, as you can get a whole bunch of things to share. Lots of seafood options of lobster, crab, ect.
google avatar

Alaine H.

Yelp
I like coming here for satay and Mee rebus. The views from the bay is beautiful and makes Singapore look magical in glittering lights. The satay is decent. It's a good place to get food post-performance at Esplanade as its open later than the restaurants in the area. Though a bit popular with tourists, the food is solid. I have tried carrot cake, fresh juice, char kway teow from here and all have been pretty good too. Centrally located and fairly easy to get to, it's a nice pit stop but can get pretty crowded.
google avatar

Yelp
My cousin and I ate at Makansutra at Gluttons Bay one night....and I will say that it was rather disappointing. Not being a stranger to Singapore (but still not having been to Makansutra beforehand), we were frustrated that while the options were varied, the food stalls ran out of food too quickly. We arrived a little before 10pm, and we couldn't even read the menu options before whoever was manning the satay stand blurted out that there was no more satay. How does the satay stall run out of satay over three hours before the food court closes? I could understand running out maybe 30 minutes before closing or something, but not three whole hours. And that happened with a few other stalls as well. Ultimately, more options we wanted were unavailable than those that were available. That just smacks of food service mismanagement, unfortunately. We left by 1045, after being frustrated that not only was the satay gone, but so were the coconut drinks, as well as most of the desserts. Actually, everything was out from the dessert stall (like durian ice and banana tempura), and the only thing there was mediocre kaya toast. While the view on the water is very nice and the vibe is younger than at most food courts, I wouldn't recommend Makansutra in light of the myriad great food options in Singapore.
google avatar

Julie C.

Yelp
16$ Singapore dollars for a soft shell crab with spicy sauce and mango salad. I would have liked more crab and mess breeding but still thought this was an amazing dish! Must get from majestic Peking duck stand. Make sure you save room for fried banana dessert with Pandan sauce.
google avatar

Ute L.

Yelp
This hawker centre only has a handful of stalls and tables are a hot commodity. What's cool about it is its location on the bay so you get to enjoy some cool breezes in the evening. The crowd is mostly tourists due to the location. The very first stall as you walk in sells fresh crabs and BBQ stingray starting at $30 and up. They also make their own beancurd mixed with fishpaste. It is a bit greasy but has a nice springy texture. We were being cheap and just shared some vegetable murtabak and some fried rice noodles, both good. Be sure to grab some $4 carrot cake if you haven't tried it.
google avatar

Skii C.

Yelp
I had the Char Kway Teow here from the Malay store. It was a tad spicy - but overall satisfying. Maybe I dont take too well to the excessive use of oil thought - because I suffered a diarrhea that night. This same store also serves Beef Hor Fun, Mee soto and more. Other things available at Glutton's bay include Western Food, Chinese Zhi Char, Seafood and more. I have tried the Chinese-styled noodles which was rather disappointing. Seating wise, it is quite spacious and clean. If you're not too picky about ood, then this place is a great place for local cuisine after catching a show at the Esplanade.
google avatar

Stephanie N.

Yelp
Top place for hawker street food. Can be difficult to find a seat. Has a wide variety of food - I tried the kway teow, satay and black carrot cake. All of it was fantastic and very filling. Prices are very reasonable and the view is lovely. It is walkable from City Hall and Raffles Place. Bring small cash change. Also bring your own napkins.

Yelp
Location, location, location. Excellent for what it is - an uber-friendly guide to the best of Singapore's classic hawker food, for the Marina Bay tourist. I think everyone here had a camera on them that wasn't their phone. And the ice kachang was essentially a colorful snow cone, but it gave my visiting friend a brief intro to durian so... *shrug*. (If you don't know what ice kachang is, I highly recommend you try it anywhere but here.) If you're in Singapore for like 1 day, hit this time-efficient place up. If you have a bit longer, adventure is out there.

Yelp
This review is basically for the Sweet Spot stall, and the fourth star is for them being open when I needed them (yes, it is possible to *need* dessert). As a white American with limited knowledge of Chinese New Year, you might think that Chinese New Year is a fun and festive time to visit Singapore. And you'd be right. You may end up catching a midnight fireworks show, or visiting the Float (along with seemingly every other human on the island) to see the amazing lantern display there. BUT you may also find yourself realizing that pretty much all of the places you bookmarked on Yelp are closed for the holiday. I desperately wanted to try an ice kacang but time on my trip was running out. Fortunately, on our last night there, we passed the Makansutra stalls. At this point, I was not optimistic but at the far end we found the Sweet Spot. VICTORY WAS MINE. I ordered an ice kacang without durian and my boyfriend ordered a lychee dessert. Based on the size, we probably should have shared. The ice kacang was a fun treat with a variety of textures and colors: the grainy shaved ice saturated with bright rainbow syrup, the crunch of nuts, the sweet yellow corn, the smooth chewy jellies, and the tender beans all mingling together to keep your taste buds interested as you race against to the time and the heat to finish the mountain of teeth-rotting goodness before it becomes a muddy colored soup. I feel like more desserts should involve corn and beans. In summary, Makansutra may mostly attract tourists and it may not be the best place in town, but I enjoyed my visit there.

Yelp
When I came to Singapore for the first time in 2015 this place was chosen by my colleagues from work on the first evening to introduce me to the variety of food in Singapore, and I was blown away. Everybody (excluding me) grabbed their favorite something and we ended with 10 people and 14 dishes and of course the appropriate amount of tiger beer. This was the time I saw the tiger tower for the first time, with the brilliant idea of the inner ice core to keep the beer cold. So I returned with the same bunch in 2016 on my second trip to find it closed for spring cleaning. This year in a next attempt we managed to find a table for 16 people which is rather tough in the evening. The food ( incl. pigs brain) was delicious again, some new dishes, and the fabulous view afterwards in you decide to walk around Marina bay. This is an absolute must in Singapore and of course the more the merrier, so bring your friends and colleagues!

Yelp
When two of our friends from Dubai paid us a visit here in Singapore, we mapped out an all-the-way Singaporean themed tour. Ofcourse, food is no exception. My friend recommended me the Makansutra Gluttons Bay. Seeing the place for the first time, it has this celebratory vibe. Maybe it has something to do that it's much alive at night, with round tables fitting 8 people with beer and their choice of meals. Honestly, it's nothing different compared to a typical hawker center found everywhere across the country. It just so happens that this is in proximity with the tourist spots namely the Esplanade, the Merlion and the Marina Bay Sands. Serving wise, we were more than happy. Taste wise, it was delicious but like I said, I can easily go to a hawker center and order some grilled squid, fried rice, and some sticks of satay. Price wise, it's very tourist-ty. This is probably one of the places you can visit occassionally, especially if you have guests. But given that the area is small and the number of tourists that frequent that area, might as well have the meals take away and eat it at home.

Yelp
Makansutra, known for it's famous local delights, and the food stalls, I heard, were specially chosen for tourists and Singaporeans to taste the best of our local food. I'm not too sure why the low ratings from other reviewers, but I have to agree with most of them that the standard has dropped since its opening and the food there isn't that cheap too. Here are some of my recommendations if you're there. I have to say, not all stalls are good, but these few are really worth the try. Fried Carrot Cake (White). You have to try this. It's one of my favourite Fried Carrot Cake I've tasted. Get the white one instead of the black carrot cake. Oh yes, if the old uncle is the chef of the night, you're in for some really yummy Carrot Cake! Calamansi drink. There's something special in this drink, perhaps is the plum they add to their drinks. It's awesome. I can drink two cups in one night when I'm really thirsty. Chicken wings. Go get that! If you're a chilli lover, please, please ask for more chilli! It's spicy but really goes very well with the chicken wings. My friends and I love it. These are some of my recommendations that was worth the 4 stars ratings I gave. The rest of the food are okay, not too bad but nothing special either.

Yelp
It's tacky, overpriced and it gives me a feeling that they're trying too hard. While I applaud the effort to revive an old eating haunt, the way it's done and the food that is served here is far from what it used to be in the past. My mother, who used to dine at a couple of stalls in her youth, was absolutely disgusted by what she had. And the fact that most of the stalls are really overcharging for sub-par dishes is another factor that turns me off from going back. Unless they're going to really make an effort, otherwise, it's just one of those tourist traps.

Yelp
Great idea of everything best in one place. We ordered many dishes! The Cuttlefish The Hokkien noodles The Char Kway Tiao The Rojak The Salted Egg yolk fries The BBQ stingray The Satay The Mutarbak And 26 cups of sugar cane drinks. You know what? We had better conversations and decent sugarcane drinks. The BBQ stingray is probably precooked, and warmed in the BBQ and added chilli just before our order. Verdict: Average The Hokkien noodles and Char Kway Tiao is also pretty forgetable. Average The Rojak is probably interesting to tourists, but on our local palate, it falls flat. Below average The salted egg yolk fries idea is not new. However they made the fries so fat and the taste so average that it became a disappointment. The Mutarbak is really very average. I didn't know what else to say. The Cuttlefish is the only dish that deserves a repeat order. The satay person is interesting. He was trying to convince our friend that the satays are very good. Our friend lives in HK and probably looks and smells like a tourist. Mr satay-man refuses to give up until one of us says we are all local. He was disappointed but we gave him some order. When the satay came he gave us a $2 discount! $18 for 20 satay and we paid $16. And what about the 26 cups of sugarcane? We were thirsty. Very thirsty.

Yelp
There are places where you go just for the food or just for the atmosphere, or both. At Makansutra Gluttons Bay, I'd say people go here partly because it's by the Singapore river and you get the cool nice breeze in the evening. I understand why some people call it a tourist trap, and I totally get it. However, I see locals going there too. There's a variety of hawker stalls there, and though they're not the best of the best (do we really need the best of the best all the time?), it's a decent place to come grab some food with family and friends and have a pleasant good time.

Yelp
Don't go there. It lives on hype and location, and I feel sad when I see tourists eating there... I wish I could make a big sign to tell them where else to go. I was going to a show at the Esplanade last week, and had 20 minutes to get food, and made the sad mistake of giving Gluttons Bay a go. The Chai Tau Kuay was chai-por and therefore tasteless, despite an overwhelming overcompensation in the egg department. The hokkien mee was worse. Looked out, but tasted like noodles boiled in water. Where'd the prawn stock go? The sugar cane tasted all right, but that can't be enough to save a hawker centre, can it?

Yelp
Gluttons Bay is a lot of fun in terms of the crowd, manner of ordering food and mingling with locals. But the food is nothing to write home about - small portions for high price.

Yelp
Forgive me for my high expectations of this place, it's the Makansutra brand after all. The location of the place is a tell-tale sign it's meant for tourists, who've had enough of the Merlion and Esplanade and want to conclude it with "unpretentious" Singaporean supper. Singaporeans will walk past Gluttons Bay whispering amongst ourselves that authentic hawker fare tastes better and costs cheaper. The exception is when it's late at night and you're caught in town. Where else to eat? This is where Gluttons Bay is "not-bad" for a group of friends to sit down and relieve their hunger pangs. I did just that and tried a number of dishes. The satay and fried carrot cake were disappointing; better versions could be easily found elsewhere. I also requested from the Indian uncle a plate of maggie goreng - a classic that brings me back to school days. It was reasonable, pretty savoury, though a tad too oily and lacking in ingredients for me. The saving grace was the environment. The cooling breeze, the moonlit sky, lovely friends - all ingredients for a relaxing weekend night. But then again, I could have gotten the same thing sitting anywhere else.

Yelp
A 3 star from a local/EP perspective, but probably a 4 star if a visiting tourist. This place offers a wide selection of hawker food in clean surroundings with easy-to-order menus. Maybe a dollar or two more expensive than a neighbourhood food centre but I think the ease of ordering such a wide selection in a small place, plus the location close to the water, is worth the extra buck. This also beats any of the mall food-courts I've visited. The chicken rice was only average, but I did enjoy the kway teow and the satay. The hokkien mee was not bad. Once again, I emphasise the ease of ordering and sampling a variety of singaporean favourites in one place. It was well lit when we were there, and well-populated with locals so it can't be all bad!! I would go back with any of our visitors scheduled to come through this year.

Yelp
This place has gone down... The prices have gone up and the quantity and quality has gone down... Got 2 tiny coconuts for ~8SGD and burnt fish at Gerry's grill. The carrot cake was nice though... With so much food in Singapore, I don't see why this place has repeat business...

Yelp
I dont know but getting a table is already hardwork... the food is okay at least to where we ate.

Yelp
Definitely one of my most favorite dining spots in Singapore! There were lots of people when we get there, proving its popularity. We had to wait to get seated. But it was worth it! The food was cheap. Everything tastes nice! I exceptionally love the rose drink (I forgot what it's called) and satay! The ambiance is made more festive as the sun sets and the lights are turned on. It's near hotels, attractions and bus station so very accessible. People should really come here.
