"After closing his updated Campus Lounge last month, local restaurateur Dan Landes has also sold his flagship restaurant City, O' City and its neighboring Make, Believe Bakery. Having already sold his first restaurant, WaterCourse Foods, Landes is getting out of the business in Colorado, Westword reports. Lauren Roberts and Jennifer Byers now own the two restaurants, and Landes will head to Mexico with his two sons to renovate a hostel." - Josie Sexton

AMAZING We had a destination wedding near Colorado Springs back in March, and we wanted to have our wedding cake be vegan. All of our guests were absolutely blown away by how beautiful and delicious the cake from Make Believe was! They were even ~more~ amazed when they learned it was completely vegan!! We got the vanilla cake with lemon curd filling and it was absolutely to die for. But honestly, ALL the flavors we sampled were top notch. The whole process was really easy, and the staff were very friendly and really cared that we got what we wanted. Overall, I would 100% recommend Make Believe Bakery for vegan wedding cakes (and non-vegan weddings, too, it's that good!!) The next time we're in Denver, we'll definitely be back for more cupcakes and other treats!

This was one of our stops on Mystery Picnic. We got 2 chocolate chip cookies as apart of our Picnic and ordered the oatmeal cream pie cookie. Thought it would have been sweeter. Overall a great place if you are looking for vegan and gluten free.

🍩🍰🧁 Wowwwwwwww. As a long time vegan, I have been all over the country visiting vegan bakeries- Make Believe is in my top 3 BEST! Blown away by everything we got here. What we got: - the hoho cupcake: huge in size. Super moist & dense & super rich chocolate cupcake stuffed with cream. This was my fave out of what we got. - chocolate/vanilla cake slice: HUGE in size. Just as moist & dense as the hoho. Wonderful flavor. Delicious & generous amount of frosting. Took us a couple nights to finish it 😅 - oatmeal sandwich cookie: super soft & flavorful oatmeal cookies STUFFED to the max with cream filling. Seriously, to die for. - cosmic brownie: this place knows how to make their desserts super rich & moist. WOW! So yummy. Honestly, everything we got was hands down mind blowing. We visited from out of state and this place was a must visit and it lived up to the hype… and more. I will be forever dreaming of this bakery 😩 Wish we loved local because I’d LIVE here. Haha.

EDIT: BAKERY STOREFRONT LOCATION IS NOW CLOSED!!! The only places you can currently get their stuff is City'o'City, which has awful customer service, or Watercourse Foods. Also you can only get pastries at both locations. No vegan custard or other non-pastry treats. Extremely disappointing. I hope they open up a bigger location to accommodate more customers, and expand hours beyond the weekends... There's enough support and demand. Really hoping this will be the case. Otherwise my favorite vegan ice cream in the city is gone... Be prepared... One party at a time and no where to sit. However... 100% worth the trip when you're nearby. Vegan and gluten free options with awesome flavor and textures! You won't believe it's vegan! I love the soft serve with freshly baked brownies and peanut butter cups. I look forward to weekends when I can pop in and enjoy a treat like a kid again. Love this spot! Try it out!

Love this spot! Doesn't get any better for me than a vegan bakery + soft serve. I almost always go for a Wizard - all the flavors are amazing though my go-to is either cookie dough or peanut butter cup. The baked goods here don't disappoint. I really like the chocolate chip cookies and banana bread. This is a must stop after dining at City o' City (though they serve these desserts there as well :)). P.S. During COVID they only allowed one party in at a time as the interior space is small.

Zachary Van Stanley

Google
They have a delicious soft serve ice cream that pairs well with their mix-ins. The cookie dough in the wizard was great (and they definitely did not skimp). All of the baked goods I tried were good, and they looked nice as well. The brownies were fun and brought back memories. The Whoopie Pie was a little rich for me, but still a fun treat. I had to wait in a little bit of a line to get in right as they opened, but it was definitely worth it.

Jessica Cravens

Google
Oh snap!! A bakery that is vegan & gluten free?!These baked goods were delicious and baked to perfection! They also have so many more options, even soft serve! There was a little bit of a wait due to the size (only one party at a time), plus covid concerns.

Yelp
As someone who has ate GF for 10 years, this place is absolutely amazing. Ppl that complain about the price of a gluten free cupcake must not eat gluten free regularly- it's always significantly more expensive than the regular option. I do think the added gratuity of 20%, and it being fairly hidden on the receipt is worth the criticism.. but to me personally it's worth the quality of the product your receive. Probably my favorite place to go for a dessert

Gabby S.

Yelp
There's not a ton of soft serve places in Denver so I needed to try this place asap! The soft serve is dairy free, made with oat milk! They have chocolate and vanilla, and delicious mix ins! I'm not sure if you'd enjoy this if you aren't a fan of oat milk because it is pretty *oat-y* but that's one of the reasons I loved it! The place is very very tiny and the line was long when I got there but it is worth the wait! The people inside were working as quickly as they could and with recent staffing issues across the city it wasn't unusual. Definitely check out this gem :)

Alexa N.

Yelp
Such a sweet treat! This cute little bakery is in the Capita Hill area. Everything is 100% vegan ranging from cupcakes to soft serve ice cream. The shop itself was a cute. It only had room for a couple people at a time so there was a little line outside of the bakery. The cashier was super friendly and answered all our questions. If this place was closer to where I lived I would come here all the time!

Stefanie C.

Yelp
4.5 stars. Tasty vegan bakery just down the street from the Denver Art Museum. Walked here with my partner and his kids on a freezing evening before realizing there's nowhere inside to sit. Yikes! We still bought a bunch of pastries, including a day-old pumpkin scone, Ho Ho, and Peanut Butter Cup soft serve. One customer inside at a time, too. I thought everything was excellent. Kids were a little ambivalent about some of the items, but I think that's par for the course. Fantastic local business to support, especially if your diet is vegan and gluten-free. Hilarious that one of the kids called out the fact that this place should steal some real estate from City O' City because it's so cramped!

Paola U.

Yelp
Best soft serve and it's oat based! * Small space which is totally fine - I had no problem waiting outside. One party inside the shop at one time. * Kind staff - great at sharing the options * Great service - quick Loved the vibes and colors! :)

Yelp
Let me start off by saying I am not vegan or gluten free. I recently had a baby and like many babies he has a tough time processing dairy so given that he is almost exclusively breastfed I did the responsible thing and gave up dairy so his little tummy doesn't get upset. I mention this because I feel like it makes me a harsher critic given that I am use to eating full dairy in my products. That being said this cake was great. I am also not gluten free but when my husband went to go get a cake for my b day the only options were both vegan and gluten free. I thought I wouldn't like the gluten free but it was pretty good, I'm guessing they used maybe almond flour? The cake part had a denser consistency that I really enjoyed. I will say the reason for the 4 stars versus the 5 had nothing to do with it being a vegan cake and everything to do with the frosting ratio...waaaay too much and if you accidentally got too much frosting In a bite it was overly sweet. As you can see from the photo there are parts of the cake that have like 2 inches of frosting! I would recommend just tossing the top decorative frosting so as not to ruin your taste buds by getting too much. I definitely want to come back and try their sundaes that everyone posts about. But all in all a great vegan Option so if you're looking for a dairy free cake I highly recommend.

Yelp
All I can say is YUM!!!! I found this place shortly after going Vegan and they quickly became my go-to bakery. Their cupcakes are my favorite, any of their fruity specials are incredible, including their PB&J. Their staples flavors Funfetti and Hostess are always delicious. Their wizards are also incredible oat based soft serve with different yummy treats inside never disappoint. I don't personally love their chocolate chip cookies, they're just a bit too salty for my liking, but the Girl Scout cookies are pretty yummy. I haven't ventured too far out to the rest of their menu as the cupcakes always call to me, but I can't wait to see what other deliciousness they have in store!

Indo S.

Yelp
Tasty vegan bakery items. Very small store front with no place to sit. Baked goods were nicely prepared. Not cheap, but worth the cost to support a vegan shop.

Erica K.

Yelp
This place has some incredible gluten-free items! I just found out I'm gluten intolerant and it's been a struggle. The Hoho gluten-free here is amazing and the Samoa's!

Sean K.

Yelp
Super yummy ice cream, cookie, cupcake and confectionary options, ALL VEGAN. GET THE BROWNIE. maybe the best ever. It's a great destination on it's own, but this bakery supplies desserts to City O City and Watercourse. It's is annexed to many other cute independent shops. Feels like a friendly little piece of NYC. I took off a star due to somewhat high prices. Appreciate this business and it's late hours. GO! You can thank me later.

Yelp
So I feel the need to update my review. After my initial review/visit back in 2018, I have returned a few times, since I now live in the area. Their products are good - the scout cookies and GF Hohos are delicious. Other items I've tried are good too. Here's my issue - the customer service is mediocre. I don't know if the employees aren't happy or are introverted or working their isn't pleasant, I'm not sure. I am pretty friendly and usually find it easy to converse with staff at stores, restaurants, etc. They are all just unfriendly and seem put out when a request is made. For example, asking them to separate the order into 2 containers versus one, as one was a cupcake and the others were cookies. Here's my other reason for updating my review - they are still tacking on the 20% gratuity to orders to "help" their employees during Covid. Prior to covid, I would tip when purchasing there. But at a place where it's counter service and they box up what you order, which they don't even have to with some of the items as they're wrapped in plastic (cookies). I just feel like a mandatory 20% is steep. I don't really see any difference in the experience, staffing, volume, etc from pre-pandemic. Again, this isn't a complaint about tipping the service industry. I am a generous tipper when we go out to dinner or other places where tipping applies and base it on the service received. That could also be part of my issue - 20% mandatory tip and mediocre service from someone who doesn't appear to be wanting to serve me some cookies and a cupcake seems high.

Yelp
Ugh I'm obsessed with this place. Gluten free baked goods aren't as easy as you might expect to find in Denver and Make Believe really delivers. All of their baked goods are delicious, particularly the brownies. And then there's the ice cream, oh my GOD! It's all vegan and it's delicious. Their homemade peanut butter cups are absolutely to die for. The cookie dough is also good. My only complaint is it's intensely sugary --I would love for some of their treats to be a little less sweet. FYI, it is counter service only. They allow one party in at a time. There is no seating. But it's a lovely neighborhood to walk around and find a nice spot for the treat!

Rachel M.

Yelp
Great vegan options, from cupcakes to shakes! I ordered the cookie dough shake and it was phenomenal - chunks of vegan cookie dough mixed with soft-serve vegan vanilla ice cream. It was delightful and truly hit the spot. I can't wait to come back and try their other items! Service was prompt, friendly, and helpful. The ambiance was appealing - calming music and artwork inside as employees bake in front of you. It's a small space so only one party was allowed in at a time.

Yelp
This place appeared on our radar because we were told that the Cinnamon Buns were to die for. Vegan *and* Gluten-free? OK, we'll see. The place is cute and quaint, and with its size, they limit customers to two people at a time - and that's if you already know each other. My girlfriend and her sister went in and we trusted that they would make all the right selections. I stepped inside just to have a smell when they were done, and I'm so glad I did. Heaven. This is what heaven must smell like. The people were friendly and the goodies were amazing looking. I'm sure most of you have seen one of the Willy Wonka versions out there . . . well, this must be the wonderment that those young characters were feeling. Simply amazing. "One of everything" will float through your mind, believe me! I know most of you are already in the habit of supporting our small business with tips, and you may be surprised that they build this into their fee structure. It will appear on your receipt and there are signs everywhere, so it's not a surprise, but I know some people don't like being told they have to partcipate in that way. OK . . . on to the goods. Holy moley, if these weren't some of the best sweet baked good I've ever had. We each opened something different and were passing them around for all to try. I must've been several bites into each thinking how amazing they were for being GF . . . and then I suddenly remembered that these were also vegan. What?! no frigging way!! This place is magic.

Amanda V.

Yelp
Very impressive selection of gluten free options and not too expensive. Everything I got tasted absolutely amazing and everything was very fresh as well. The gluten free chocolate chip cookies, ginger molasses cookies, and mini cupcakes tasted phenomenal. The staff were very kind and accommodating!

Max G.

Yelp
Best vegan soft serve / baked treats in Denver! If frozen novelties are your weakness, then you are in good company here. Their wizard of the week is what makes this place SHINE! From Milk Cereal to Funfetti to Chocolate Dipped Pretzel, wizard sundaes serve it right for any mood. So much as a basic chocolate/vanilla swirl cone really does it for me, too. They use oat milk in the ice cream, which makes this treat luxurious, smooth, and free from funky ingredients. In the pastry case, you'll find freshly baked cupcakes, gluten free cosmic brownies, their infamous scout cookie, sweet potato cinnamon rolls, cakes ranging in sizes and flavors, the best damn sea salt chocolate chip cookie you'll ever have, and tubs, yes, TUBS, of cookie dough, both gluten free and gluten full. I'm going to stop talking now so you can jump out the door and go get yourself some! Pro tip -- check out their day-old treats for 50% off! Double pro tip -- they list seasonal/weekly flavors on their Instagram page @makebelievebakery

Yelp
My family loves Make Believe Bakery. The desserts are so delicious. I love the danishes. My kids love the cupcakes, especially the funfetti cupcakes. And we always get ice cream while we are there. We've ordered birthday cakes from here too and they always turn out great. I highly recommend this bakery if you're plant-based. But even if you're not, these desserts are really tasty to all diets.

Carly B.

Yelp
Was really excited to try the GF blueberry hibiscus cupcake....came home to eat it only to find a giant hair embedded in my frosting... Safe to say that cupcake went straight in the trash and I'll find cupcakes somewhere else :)

Amanda K.

Yelp
My husband and I waited outside for another couple to finish up their order. This is a very small bakery but completely worth it. The bakery is makes all vegan goods with some gluten free options. We ordered the chocolate chip sea salt cookie and hoho cupcake. Both of them were gluten free. The cupcake was larger than your average cupcake so you can easily split it with someone if you wanted to but I wouldn't blame you if you kept it for yourself. The hoho cupcake was very rich and chocolatey, pure deliciousness. The cookie was actually dense which is rare with gluten free cookies. The cookie was good but not my favorite. I plan to stop again during my visit to Denver because this place was on point.

kelly k.

Yelp
I wanna book a cheap flight to Denver for the day just to come back here. I had a cup of vanilla with cookie dough and took a bunch of pastries to go. The soft serve is phenomenal. Not too sweet, but sweet enough and super creamy. The pastries are incredible. I got a couple cupcakes a ho ho, some cookies, a brownie. The ho ho was my favorite. There was a surprise layer of the cream filling beneath the chocolate topping. I cried a little when I ate it. Oh! I'm allergic to wheat so everything I had was gluten free. Out of this world. Definitely something to write home about.

Summer M.

Yelp
I recently received a Birthday cake from my husband that he ordered from Make Believe Bakery! It is my first time being able to order a gluten free cake from a bakery and it was incredible! I got the coconut cream cake and it tasted like a pie and cake all in one - amazing! The icing was delectable, and the vegan/organic/gluten free cake was moist and full of flavor. I will be ordering all future birthday cakes + special celebration cakes from this bakery! I love supporting small businesses, especially small bakeries, and I can't wait to stop by for delicious pastries one day! 10/10 across the board!

Amy V.

Yelp
I have never had froyo as delicious. HUGE servings and absolutely scrumptious toppings. Friendly and fast service too! Soooo good.

Brett M.

Yelp
So, I went here on Saturday, and I have to say, this is probably the best bakery I've been to in Denver, and I'm not vegan, so I've been to most all of the ones most people would say are the good ones here, but Make, Believe beats them. Also, not that the pallet of my 12 year old son should matter to an adult, but that kid eats pretty damn good, and he agrees. My one gripe would just be that stupid 20% service charge. It's just like a seemingly hidden fee. I'd prefer them to just add it in the price on the food when I'm looking. That said, I did find out today that the bakery is a part of City O City, so that likely has something to do with it. The vegan restaurant next door started doing that for their staff, and it's likely the same staff baking the desserts, so, for some reason, I'm less annoyed by the idea of a bakery adding a service charge to my order knowing it's also part of the restaurant. I should note that they did goof my order a tad the night of, and forgot to put my oatmeal creme pie thingy on my box, so I was a bit frustrated that night because that was the main dessert I had my eye on, BUT I called them the next day, and they more than took care of me. Maybe just check your order before you leave, so you get to eat your oatmeal crème pie thingy the night of haha

Candace L.

Yelp
My sister and I are two incredible vegan bakers, I mean we are told quite often we should open a bakery. Clearly our friends and family are trying to boost our egos ;) all jokes aside we are pretty amazing bakers and both have some really solid vegan dessert options. When I spotted this cute little bakery and saw that it was Vegan I knew it would be perfect to visit with my sister. We purchased two cupcakes and a cookie but didn't particularly care for any of the items. I'd say the Hoho Cupcake was probably better than the other items but they also put the wrong cookie in our bag and gave us a snickerdoodle of sorts rather than the chocolate chip we ordered. I've had much tastier vegan baked goods, but maybe just ordered all the wrong items and there's something much more delish than the three items we purchased.

Amy L.

Yelp
This was delicious, however, I wish there was more ice cream and less cookie dough. Next time I would get soft serve and maybe add a topping or two -- but not mix it as the wizard. Otherwise, this place smelled heavenly with all the baked goods and had a very nice staff.

Tigra C.

Yelp
An all vegan sweet shoppe owned by the owners of City o' City. It's a small, carry-out spot, so don't make plans to eat in. However, you can carry your goodies next door (to City o' City) to eat with your meal. Their cupcakes are delicious. They do offer several gluten-free options, if that's your thing. They have whole cakes, cookies, danishes, and other options to satisfy your sweet tooth. What I don't remember from my visit last year was the soft serve. They have soft serve! Vanilla, chocolate, or swirl. You can also get a Wizard (think DQ Blizzard). The special was Death by Chocolate and it looked so inviting; I couldn't resist. It did NOT disappoint! Creamy chocolate soft serve with chocolate sauce, chocolate cake, and I think I tasted caramel too. OMG. It was so amazing. They do close fairly early during the week, so you'll have to fight the traffic to make it. Totally worth it!

Andrew S.

Yelp
SCAMMERS!!!!! DO NOT GO HERE!!!! I ordered a cupcake and pie that came out to $32.04 and had a receipt (THANK GOD). I checked my bank account and they put in a TIP OF $91.00!!!!!!! I came to the store before they opened and they told me to come back at noon even though the manager was there. Came back at noon when they were open and the manager said oh "sorry for the slip of the finger!" The manager said that it will be credited to my account that day. It did not. Had to call the place again. DO NOT GO HERE!!! THEY WILL SCAM YOU OF YOUR MONEY!!!!

Rachael M.

Yelp
Incredible cupcake (chocolate peanut butter) and wizards! They have an excellent selection of vegan desserts. The wizards were incredible - they have a great assortment of toppings that you can mix and match in the wizard. We'll definitely be back!

Sophie B.

Yelp
OMG this cupcake was delicious!! 100% vegan so we love that! And I love all the cool options :) I had the cupcake, but my sister enjoyed the oatmeal cookie pie as the Little Debbie's version used to be her favorite. Thank you!!!

Khivi S.

Yelp
My family and I are vegan, so dessert is something that we really are excited to find. They were all vegan and have lots of gluten free options. We got a cinnamon roll, Ho- ho cupcake, a confetti cupcake, and chocolate chip sea- salt cookie. It was PHENOMENAL . I seriously recommend this place. Once you go, you'll find yourself going like 24/7!

Alexandra G.

Yelp
I'm so happy that I now know that this place exists! Stopped by here after dinner and got the oat milk swirl soft serve. Non-dairy soft serve is always a hit or miss for me but this was definitely the best I've had so far. I'm definitely coming back to try more of their stuff!

L H.

Yelp
I am always looking for a good vegan bakery, so naturally, this has been high on my list. I finally was able to make a visit and got a mini cookies and cream cupcake, mini lemon cupcake, funfetti cupcake, and a sweet potato cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll was amazing! If you are a big cinnamon roll lover like I am, this is a must try! Unfortunately, the cupcakes disappointed. All of the flavors came from the overly sweet icings with the cakes themselves tasting gummy and strangely plastic-y. I did order a Hoho cupcake but it was somehow missed. Though, I must say I'm definitely not in a rush to do so.

Nicole V.

Yelp
I love finding all-vegan bakeries when visiting new cities. This place has a ton of cool baked goods and new oat-based "wizards," their version of a DQ blizzard. We ended up getting a Hoho and a wizard to go. The folks working unfortunately got the ice cream all over the cup, and we had a mile walk in the snow to get to our destination. It was not very convenient to have sticky, ice cream-riddled mittens. We had asked for a dome for the cup and they kinda slid it on top, getting more of the toppings oozing out over the side. I would have appreciated them cleaning it off a little bit! When I worked at an ice cream shop, I didn't let customers leave with super sticky cups. I totally get that in this day and age, many restaurants offer a mandatory service charge. At this place it's 20%. Then on top of that, they ask you to fill out a form where you can leave an additional tip. At this point you're looking at more than 20% of the sticker price, for service (and they don't have anywhere for you to sit inside, use the restroom, etc). Just fyi.

Lee E.

Yelp
I cams here from City Oh City fkr dessert, which, BTW, was amazing! I ordered dessert for 3 of us and the lady at the register charged me $12 more than what I ordered -- $38 instead of $26. I found out after the fact but couldn't return them, or get a refund.....whats up with that? The food was okay but I kinda felt nickle and dimed. Isn't $6 per cupcake enough profit? It tasted decent but I left with a bad taste in my mouth -- literally. Would love if management fixed this.

Jen B.

Yelp
I really want to like this place ... as the first time I went , their gf molasses cookies were super bomb and left me day dreaming about them, and their staff is always really nice. However, the last time I went, the cookies I got had a date on them from days prior and were very dry. I also got a cupcake that was too moist inside like it wasn't baked long enough and just tasted like flour with a very sweet frosting on top. I spent about 25$ between my cookies / cupcake/ tip and ended up throwing most of it away.

Sujata T.

Yelp
Awesome vegan items . Loved everything that I got loved the seasonal softee and Brownie

Designer S.

Yelp
Good vegan baked goods the only reason I left 3 stars is because the employees don't really have sympathy for how long customers have to wait. One time I waited outside almost 23 minutes for 2 humans to order & they walked out with one item, were they just chatting that entire time? Idk the wait time here is horrendous do not come here in a hurry, or expect any sympathy from the employees.

Aubrey J.

Yelp
i've been here once before when i was in denver but it was through ordering at city o city. this time i decided to come in separate of the restaurant since we were stopping by later in the day. of course i had to get a ho ho cupcake, which is always delicious and chocolatey (despite not being the biggest fan of chocolate cake, this is probably my favorite i've had!). the cake has never been dry or crumbly, and is the perfect balance of sweetness. if i were to get married, my wedding cake would be ordered here! i also ordered the seasonal cookies and cream wizard, which is a twist blend with oreos. the soft serve was very good (i think it's oatly soft serve?) and did not make me feel ill afterwards like i sometimes do. i always crave blizzard-like things and other sweets but they're a little harder to find when you don't eat dairy (especially ice cream that doesn't make me sick) which makes me so happy that this bakery makes such good desserts! i would definitely recommend to stop by or order from here!

Livvy W.

Yelp
Vegans and non-vegans alike will *love* Make Believe! The oat-based soft serve wizards taste just as good, if not better, than comparable dairy desserts I've had, not to mention that the cookie dough wizard comes with chunks of cookie dough, instead of just tiny pieces. They also have a great number of gluten free versions of their cupcakes, cookies, etc., making this an awesome place for people with all kinds of dietary restrictions. It's a bummer that the space is so small (only one party is allowed in at a time), but the delicious treats more than make up for it. The staff is kind, the service is quick, and the dessert simply can't be beat.

A E.

Yelp
Make Believe is the best vegan sweets shop in town. My favorite is their ice cream Wizards (vegan Blizzard), especially the seasonal flavors they come up with. All the pastries are delicious and there are gluten free options available. The staff is friendly and helpful, overall a great place.

Carissa M.

Yelp
My 8yo is newly on a gluten and dairy free diet, and I wasn't sure how we would handle celebrating our first family birthday - but Make Believe Bakery made it a wonderful experience!! My husband and two sons (11 and 8) were blown away at how delicious the GF / vegan cupcakes from here were, and we will 100% be back again in the future. Hot tip - however - don't feed a big sugary cupcake to two kids under age 12 right before bedtime.... THEY loved it, tired parents should have known better.

Kjersten C.

Yelp
I am not even a vegan but I love everything I have had from Make, Believe Bakery. I've had their baked goods at other restaurants before and today my partner picked up some cupcakes from their storefront and brought them home. We had the Funfetti and the Mint Chip. Both were great!

Angie M.

Yelp
SO excited to find this place during my conference to Denver! I made sure to swing by on my last day and man, was it worth taking the bus and walking for! This place is SO good!! I was so excited for the soft service... and ended up buying a bunch of baked goods for my flight back.

Bethany P.

Yelp
If you want to pay $20 for the two most bland bakery items you have ever had, be my guest! You are paying a 20% automatic tip for the workers to "earn a fair wage", but the service was not great, and I have never come across a store whose cupcakes are $6 and don't make enough profit to pay their employees a fair wage. I saw a review that this 20% was for covid relief, and now they have kept the sign up and are milking the horrible policy. The cupcake was flavorless, and I didn't even finish it, because the "flavor" and texture was hard to get down. The whole experience, from stolen tip (I would have given you a great tip if J was given great service, but it was a two-word exchange and nothing more than handing me a cupcake) to the pretty gross cupcake, left me pretty angered and queasy. And the woman behind the cash register used the same gloves to touch my cupcake and the cash I handed her.....

Yelp
So if you are vegan the best girl scout cookies, Samoas, are out. Little Debbie DingDongs and Oatmeal Cream pies are also out. But not if you get them from Make Believe Bakery, and they taste better and are bigger. If you are gluten-free, they also have gluten-free versions of all their items. A little bit pricey but way worth it. We thought everything we got was very good and everything seemed very freshly made. Samoas are one of my faves and these were very much like the real deal. The oatmeal cream pie "whoopie pie" was so soft and chewy and had a great spice to it. I got the DingDong for my significant other. He thought it was very good, so good he didn't even give me a bite. This shop is small and there is no place to sit. In addition to the cookies and DingDongs, they also had several flavors of cupcakes and some cinnamon rolls but didn't have a ton of items; however, I would assume if you wanted something specific, like a birthday cake, you could pre-order.

Yelp
The dairy free and gluten free cupcakes and banana bread were all amazing! I highly recommend this bakery! I'll return for the next birthday for sure!

Yelp
The ice cream is really good and the desserts aren't bad, but they hit you with big fees with you pay.. I'm all about paying employees fair wages but I really hate when places add a big % fee at the end of your bill that you don't see when you're picking your items.

Yelp
Great vegan bakery and the soft serve is also really really good. If you've never had the soft serve before - eat it right then and there it takes the best when it's not melted. They also only allow one party in at a time so if the line is super long and you're only looking for baked goods, check City O City to see if they have what you're looking for as the wait will be much shorter!

Yelp
Make Believe Bakery is such a mixed bag. My husband loves their gluten-free funfetti cupcake. I love their oatmeal raisin sandwich cookie. There are no other organic bakeries in Denver which offer these gluten free and vegan options, and we appreciate being able to get them. The rest of the Make Believe menu is fairly hit and miss. I was a big Dairy Queen Blizzard fan before I became a vegan, and I was excited to try their version. I have had two different and can say neither were great: the vanilla soft serve is way too sweet and the mix-ins are bland/taste cheap. We have tried other cookies and cupcakes from the bakery: some are good, some are bland. We have gotten their cookies and cupcakes to celebrate birthdays for the Airbnb we host. Although no guests have commented to us directly about the bakery items, we usually find them half eaten or thrown away. This is especially depressing when we pay a premium to provide them. The service is also hit and miss. Sometimes whomever waits on us is friendly. Sometimes they are not. We have asked for business cards/flyers/menus to put out when we buy treats for our Airbnb guests so folks can come and visit the bakery if they like what they have. The answer we always get is no, they don't have any of those promotional materials and do not plan to produce any. I am always mystified by a business which finds this kind of word of mouth marketing not to be of any value to them. We will continue to come by every now and then for a treat. Rather than visit the bakery itself, people may instead enjoy having a dessert from Make Believe when visiting City O' City or Watercourse Foods.
