Make My Fish

I had the catfish & chips at Make My Fish and it was great. The catfish was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and the chips were good too. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, and even the customers seemed happy and easy to talk to. It’s got a great community feel. One thing to note: no chicken on Fridays—so plan accordingly if that’s what you’re after. But honestly, with how good the fish is, you won’t miss it!

We came on a Friday, but they only sell seafood that day, so I couldn't get any chicken. But the crispy fish, fries, and shrimp! Banana pudding, and the Red Velvet Cake are out of this world! I will be making a second trip, just not a Friday so I can get everything! I will say that the lightly breaded shrimp and fish does not have much in the way of seasoning, they didn't add any cocktail sauce, just some very hot Hot Sauce!

The shrimp and yams were really good. Didn't have the chance to try the greens or potato salad, as they were out. The whitening was crispy, but the catfish was bland and could have been cooked longer. Didn't care for the mac & cheese at all. *DISCLAIMER * I am from the South so this may effect my opinion.

Line is way too long on the weekends so I stopped by on a Thursday afternoon. I ordered immediately and it took about 20-30min for the food to come out but it’s bc it’s fresh. The fish is PHENOMENAL!!! Highly recommend and will be coming back asap!

Solid Spot for Fried Fish Lovers! Stopped by Make My Fish and was impressed by the portion sizes and flavor. I had the catfish sandwich, and it was seasoned perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy inside, and definitely filling. I also tried the whiting fish and shrimp dinner. The whiting was flavorful and cooked just right. The shrimp had a nice sweet and seasoned taste to them, which was a pleasant surprise. The yams were rich and tasty, while the mac and cheese was decent nothing too special, but it did the job. Overall, a great spot in Harlem if you’re craving classic fried seafood with solid sides. Will definitely be back to try more!

I ordered the catfish plate with greens, yams and got a side of Mac and cheese. It was pretty good overall. The place was crowded and I only waited about 7 minutes and it was ready. The fish was nice and crispy, Mac and cheese was ok, yams ok but the collard greens need some work. I have no idea what it was seasoned with but I could only take two small bites. My suggestion is please try something else with the greens, but overall I give this place a 8.

I was a little skeptical at first about the catfish because I'm not really a catfish person. My cousin talked me into it and "Make my Fish" turned me into a catfish lover. It was so so so good. Crispy to perfection and tender on the inside. The seasoning was just right and the tarter sauce made it even better. I also had the greens and mac n cheese. Everything was made with love. The line was long but that's how you know it's good. Once we ordered the food came out fast. The owner displayed good customer service and you can tell he wanted to make his customers happy. If you was thinking about going, you better go.

I Been wanting to try this place for the longesttt, last time I came they was closing and living an hour & some away made it almost impossible to come back, but today I took the drive and the experience wasn’t as all hyped up to be, maybe it was the crowd, but the line wasn’t long I literally was at the door on the line, wait time was under 20 mins and the food was OILY 😩😩 Tasty but I felt some heart burn after consuming a piece of fish and 2 shrimps in the car so I waited till I got home to eat the rest and which I warm up in the oven, then pat down with paper towels (which I posted). I would definitely stick to my City Island lol the food has a nice taste but nothing spectacular. Portions wasn’t to bad for fish, shrimps could be a lil more. Overall I will give Make My Fish a 8/10.

There are some places that prepare good food and some places got so much pull, that you could be eating at the finest Harlem has to offer and you might stop by Make My Fish afterwards to take some home. That's what I did on a Tuesday, after eating at one of the most reputable Harlem restaurants, I had to drop in on Make My Fish for some catfish. In fact, anytime I'm within range, I'm thinking about Make My Fish. It's that good folks and I'm not the only one. You see people picking up for themselves and people at work. You see people getting off from work. You see couples in there to satisfy their mutual fix. You see mothers in there with baby strollers. IYKYK. This time I took note of how crispy and flaky the batter was on the catfish. The batter was not hiding the flavor. Perhaps they have more time on a Tuesday early evening to make it even better. I have stopped here several times since my last review and have had their fried chicken. Charles need not worry, but Make My Fish can make some chicken. Hot sauce makes it come alive, but it is not the star of the show here. Catfish is the focal point and rewards you consistently. Ask for all catfish to maximize your joy. 4.5 stars!

It's local, it's a whole in the wall and we like it just fine. I got the fried fish and M&C - Fish has great flavor, not greasy, and not overly battered. Emphasis on not overly battered because that is a thing at some places. I don't wanna feel guilty eating fish. Great portion size (please keep the portion size the same) and it re-heats well. Next day with some grits, perfect! - M&C gives a homemade feel, it's good and simple. I had to hold off on one start because the 3 times that I've been there's a disturbing smell. I'm thinking it's the floor mats in the waiting space. I'm hoping this will get checked. The staff is cool, familiar family vibe, straight to the point running their business and it's all good. I'll return again and again.

Love, love, love the food here. Can not believe I have never given this place a try! The fried shrimp, mac & cheese are my favorite. The whiting fish, and their tartar sauce was great. Loved the prices, it was very busy, not a long wait. The atmosphere was lively and music rocking!

Just received a takeout order. Very sloppily packaged, with grease spots on the brown bag. Kinda ghetto. The mac & cheese was very good. Establishment should spend a little extra on packaging.

Still coming all the way from Jersey for this Fish and Shrimp. I grew up on it and after I moved, nothing compares. I used to go to their sister location on 145st but I come here now to get the Catfish as well. Be prepared to wait but it's worth it.

The spot balances quality food with fair prices. All items deliver on flavor promises. All workers exhibit excellent capabilities. Test out different menu items while you're here. This is strictly my own opinion.

Came in on an adventure on a Friday night after work and went right back on Saturday for dinner again! The food is easily a 15/10. The ambiance is cool but if you're looking for a place to sit and eat, walk a few avenues over to the park. Don't be intimidated by the amount of people in and outside of establishment because the line moves quicker than you think. Order is always correct and they make sure to ask you to wait if everything isn't included in your bag. Back to the food, I'm not a fan of shrimp but these are cooked to perfection with a hint of sweetness as if they added a lil sugar to that batter. The fish, if it wasn't fried I would be eating every single day. Catfish is cooked perfectly, seasoned by the ancestral gods and served crispy! The grits are amazing and the greens are cooked down without meat so you don't have to worry about pork being added to your greens. The grits! They were seasoned and buttered up. Definitely satisfied my craving and I was given the option to add cheese! Add it! That Mac n cheese is also good not as greasy as most places serve it. They offer a nice selection of combinations or you can make your own. If you don't eat as much in a sitting you will have food for a few days because the portions are great. It is also enough to share the main but make sure you get your own sides. The drink was a half and half and it was perfect if you like your drinks sweetened! Definitely going back AGAIN.

Imma have to marry some damn body in there lol.this fish sandwich is EVERYTHING. My sister in the back of the car ranting and raving over her meal which was fish mac and cheese and collard greens and ice tea. Plus she want to go back lol me too. Told bae this our first stop after turkey day

The seafood is good and tasty and you will enjoy it so place a order for cat fish, shrimp and fry fries

Had a taste for fish and grits and heard about Make My Fish in Harlem. The restaurant opened at 11:30 am, and I was 3rd on line. It was just a regular take-out spot- not very large. The music was fine, a bit loud, but as I mentioned, it's a take-out place. After I placed my order, it took 15 minutes for my order to get ready. There were 4 pieces of regularly sized Whiting fish, and a container of grits. The fish was lightly browned, but crispy. It was seasoned, and the grits were hot and creamy. It was filling, and I actually had more fish left over. I would go back. If you are ever on 116th, in Harlem, check out Make My Fish. Till we eat again...

We went Saturday April 12, 2025. They open at 12pm instead of 11:30am. There was a line outside. The food is ver good. The only draw back was the potato salad & collar green was not prepared. That was a disappointment along with one staff person with a big Afro not covered. I believe, when you open the doors to service the customers, everything should be ready including the grooming! For that I'm only giving 3 stars rating. The other customers were very pleasant & patient.

I still think about the catfish dinner I had from here. Catfish was perfectly seasoned and remained crispy! None of that soggy fish business over here. My leftovers even heated up nicely in the air fryer. I chose the grits w/cheese and Mac sides which were also delicious. I wish the grits had less cheese but that's a preference. Next time I'll get the plain grits and lemonade. Shoot I'll add a dessert if they have it too. Cash only! But there's an ATM.

Great place with some fresh amazing fish for takeout. Not really a spot to dine in. Not too big of a place either. They are CASH ONLY! We ordered the catfish and shrimp with fries. And whiting and Mac n cheese. The catfish was mouthwatering. Seasoned to perfection. Shrimp were cooked perfectly and tasted so good. The whiting also was delicious. Mac n cheese was scrumptious! Wish we lived closer cause they would definitely see me often! There was about a 15 min or so wait once ordered. They're pretty busy. But it's worth it!

If you are looking for some bomb fried fish then this is the place. I'm from Cali and I can say the food out here in NY hasn't been nothing to write home about. BUT THIS PLACE......MAKE MY FISH........IS THE BEST FREAKIN CATFISH AND SHRIMP I EVER HAD out in the streets. Usually to get some fish and shrimp that darn good I would have to make it at home myself. When I tell you their shrimp tastes so fresh and seasoned just right. Omg!!! You won't be disappointed. The fish is also seasoned just right. Now the dinner combo is about $26 BUT it comes with 2 nice size portion sides and 3 big pieces of catfish and 10 shrimp. Honestly, you can share it with someone if you trying to watch your figure. My husband killed his but my daughter and I could have easily shared a dinner. We both got the Mac and cheese with yams. The Mac and cheese was cool. I'm a little bias bcuzz I feel that I personally make the best Mac and cheese on the planet lol but baaaybay, their yams was candied. They were just as good as what I make at home. Delicious! It's a little hole in the wall neighborhood spot , take out only. Oh and cash only. Let me not forget to mention that. And yes The parking sucks but you just double park right in the front like everyone else does and you will be fine. Leave someone in the car. It's worth it! Trust me, you won't be disappointed. Wow, wow, wow! I have only two bad things to say about this place. The wait is insane, but that's more due to the volume of customers than the restaurant being slow. Second thing is the Mac and cheese could be cheesier, but flavor wise it's an 8/10. I wish it was closer to home but then again I don't cause then I'd weigh 500lbs eating here on the daily lol.

Best fried fish I have EVER had. We go the catfish and shrimp. I'm not a big fan of catfish but I enjoyed the fish here. The batter and seasoning were spot on. I'm from Los Angeles and there are plenty of fried fish joints but none I have had compare. Had plenty of meals in NY this trip but this was the best meal I had on this trip. Definitely will make this a must every time I'm in town.

Sorry got sick to my stomach to greasy and discolored fish won't be back anytime soon

This is my second favor fish spot in Harlem. I have been coming here for years. Years years. It's a great spot to get while fresh fish you can take it home and prepare it yourself and u can have it steamed there. This time I came in the the fried snapper shrimp and fries. The fry station is also we're the steam station is located. The fish is pre breaded in individual bins Whiting snapper blue fish scallops shrimp. This is a what you see is what you get the service is cool those Latino men work hard for the money and still give u service with a smile. The fish is always. Cooked well. The fries or the crinkle cut and the condiments are out front so you can pick what you want and add them before they wrap it up.

Sorry the Hype of Make my Fish is just that....The Greasy Catfish was enough to fill a Dixie Peach Jar!!!! Disappointed and sad......I don't understand when you have a formula that works in the beginning try to stick with the consistency...check out who you hire and have the cooks follow the recipe.....GOD Awful GREASY FISH!!!!

I felt like my mom had cooked the fish. It was delicious. Also we had a delivery and it arrived hot. Will definitely order from there again.

I've never been in this establishment but my neighbor frequents it and always shares the food with me. Every time it's very good. The fish is hot, crunchy, and well seasoned. I don't like tartar sauce, but it goes well with the fish and hot sauce. Hopefully one day I can make it and buy some myself.

Fast service! Fish was deliciously crispy yet not greasy. However the banana pudding wasn't what I expected. It was a little on the generic side. They used a bitter cookie on top instead of the original vanilla wafer.

Loved this authentic Harlem spot. Probably the best catfish and whiting in the world. The portions sizes are huge! Can easily share. Please note that they only accept cash but there's an atm on the premises. The staff is lively lovely and amazing truly! You will wait especially on Saturday up to an hour for food but it's worth it! The kind of place you look forward to going to and doesn't disappoint. Wonderfully seasoned before frying, not over-caked with breading, and the seafood itself is tender and well-cooked. The shrimp have a very slightly sweet, almost coconut-y, flavor. Mac and cheese was good, could perhaps have been melted through a bit more when it was baked. The service runs smoothly and quickly. The menu has a good variety and combinations--they know what people like to order. Greens are cooked with turkey. Corn bread is on Fridays only. No chicken on Fridays. Cash only. ATM in-restaurant. The food holds up well to eat later if commuting. There is a window bar you could eat at in-restaurant but there are usually so many people, it would feel crowded to sit and eat.

This spot has been a beloved landmark in Harlem for decades, known for its delicious seafood at prices that won't break the bank! I usually try to avoid fried foods, but every now and then, you just have to indulge and enjoy a little cheat day!

My rating is not because of the food, it is delicious. They have an online option to place an order. TWO DAYS in a row I placed an online order then was refunded my money because they could not fill the order. I have ordered online from them, so I knew it was an option. It they cannot fulfill online orders they should take this option off their website. This is very disappointing and I will not be ordering online from them again.

Food was very tasty, fresh and sooo delicious. Alex the owner was very friendly! Customer service was on point! Im going back tomorrow just to try his peach cobbler! 100% recommended!!!!

The fish was just like I remember when I used to live in New York City. It was late afternoon so I didn't get to taste the sides because they had sold out next time. I'm in New York. I will come earlier but once again the fish was superb. I wanted to slap somebody.

The fish is fresh & good portion. The wait is sometimes long but I think it's worth it. Ambiance is 'Harlem fish spot',so it's not a fancy place.

Food is amazing best fish and shrimp I've had in a long time with a perfect blend of seasoning. I usually go on Friday evenings there is always a crowd but with their great service it moves extremely fast. I recommend Make My Fish 100% you won't be disappointed.

I tried this restaurant for the first time and I honestly have no complaints about this business. The staff was friendly throughout my purchase process especially the cashier. I ordered the fish and shrimp combo with potato salad and collard greens. Everything thing was delicious but the dish that stood out most to me was the potato salad. Most other restaurants have potato salad that is just ok but this was seasoned perfectly. I'll definitely be returning in the future.

My food is always amazing never a problem. This last time I ordered all shrimp and got shrimp and fries it's no big deal I just hate to waste food because I never eat the fries. But other than that imma always be a returning customer

I came here about 2 weeks ago! I ordered the shrimp & whiting combo and the wings. The shrimp were jumbo shrimp and really delicious. The whitings were very small but tasty. Chicken wings were big. I happen to like my wings small...

The food was amazing, seasoned just right and you get plenty of it to fill you up. There is no real seating or waiting area so be prepared to stand and feel like you're in the way. Also it doesn't look like you can order online anymore so you have to go in person. Only downside is you will be waiting a minimum of 20mins so don't go if you have time constraints

My goodness!! MY GOODNESSSSSSSSS!!!! If you don't get down to this place FAST!!!!! You better!!!!!! Ok first this is located in Harlem and if you can't drive.... You BETTER get a cab bec it's CROWDED. The location isn't that big BUT it's worth EVERY dime I spent!!!!!! They gave us samples of the food and when I say I got full off those HUGE samples... these people are NOT stingy With the food. My goodness. I FELL IN LOVE with the people and the food and I am adding this to my list of ..... I WILL BE BACK!!!! The fish is DELICIOUS and the the shrimp are beyond delicious and have a hint of sweet!!! My goodness the sides .... My goodness SOOOOOOOO tasty!! I even got the strawberry cake and oh my it melted in my mouth and lastly the fruit punch kool aid was soooooooooo delicious. You have to try this place.. I PROMISE you won't be disappointed!!!

The fish (I got the catfish) is fried perfectly and seasoned so well! Truly the star of the show (which goes without saying). The fries were just typical frozen fries and the Mac and cheese was admittedly a bit underwhelming but you come here for the fish!

Make my fish is your local spot to get a nice fish fry. The place itself is like a hole in the wall so don't expect to dine in or bring a date. This place is perfect for a quick lunch, snack for eating at the park or any other casual scenario. The food is not greasy and they generally make the food quickly. Just don't expect too much in terms of seasoning and flavor. On the other hand they do offer and provide plenty of sauces with every dish. I usually get the . whiting or salmon. Their sides are pretty hefty considering so you will get value for your dollar. The location itself is kinda ugly, and off putting imho, so I opt to use their delivery service. It's saved me in a pinch and although there are more upscale places you know Make my Fish exists for a good reason.

Make my fish is definitely a good spot for fish and chips. I went to see what was the difference between them and Famous Fish as I have heard that the owners are apart of the same family. Both spots are great I'm an original Famous Fish customer and I still prefer Famous Fish as my favorite spot but Make My Fish is good as well!

This is for the FOOD; and SERVICE ONLY .. I came here to get a quick Fish and Shrimp combo .also a side of cole slaw. Now this place is small ..it's some bar stools but not many ..They were very orderly in taking orders plus friendly 10/10.. They gave me bread and all the condiments (tartar;ketchup; hot sauce) THE ONLY issue is there was a bit of a smell .. it smelled like a bit of a litter box ..but we live in NYC plus the place was clean ...THE FISH ...was delicious ..CRISPY ; Hot and balanced seasoning. Many people were ordering their Catfish ..One lady described how she comes here once a month from lower Manhattan because of the Catfish ! So yes I will be ordering again and my bill total was in the lower twenties ! Not a date friendly spot..just get your hot fish and Go ..Thank me later ..Oh if you have anxiety ; then this isn't the neighborhood for you ..
