Make My Fish

We came here during our trip to NYC from London. It did not disappoint. It over delivered. Honestly the best shrimp and catfish I’ve ever had. The flavours have me wanting to book a flight back! Then to top it all, the kindness and hospitality from the owner will stick with me for a long time. I cannot recommend this spot highly enough. Please pay them a visit if you’re in NYC!

We came on a Friday, but they only sell seafood that day, so I couldn't get any chicken. But the crispy fish, fries, and shrimp! Banana pudding, and the Red Velvet Cake are out of this world! I will be making a second trip, just not a Friday so I can get everything! I will say that the lightly breaded shrimp and fish does not have much in the way of seasoning, they didn't add any cocktail sauce, just some very hot Hot Sauce!

I’m overly impressed. Make my fish has the best fried shrimps, fish, Mac & cheese and yams in Harlem period! First time I was there, I had fried shrimps and the coating was crispy, hot, fresh and well seasoned. While I was there I was offered a sample of catfish. I never had catfish before and let’s just say, they created an addiction. lol. It was well seasoned and coated to perfection. The Mac is also my absolute favorite side dish. No one in Harlem is topping their mac and cheese right now!! Their yams are great as well. It’s some magic in these side dishes. The workers are friendly especially the gentlemen who offered me the samples. I’ve been here about five times now in the last month and their food and customer service is always consistent. I’ve also recommended friends who’ve went and said they are delicious as well. Thank you guys so much

I had the catfish & chips at Make My Fish and it was great. The catfish was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and the chips were good too. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, and even the customers seemed happy and easy to talk to. It’s got a great community feel. Two things to note: only cash! And no chicken on Fridays, so plan accordingly if that’s what you’re after. But honestly, with how good the fish is, you won’t miss it!

Shrimp Is Excellent The Grits Are Good As Well Yams Taste Like Potato’s With Pancake Syrup Macaroni N Cheese Isn’t Good And Has Black Pepper On It Collard Greens Are Plain Ol Nasty Chicken Fried Too Hard And Over Seasoned Very Unprofessional Customer Service And Very Long Wait

Wait times are usually long but that’s because they have a lot of people coming in I’ve had this place twice and the fish and chips always come out Divine. Seasonings on the fish itself are perfect and I love the amount of condiments they give you. The hot sauce is great I can’t tell if they use Texas Pete but it’s my fav with the tartar sauce

Customer service was good. However the food in my opinion isn't great. The catfish is really good. The whiting have too much black pepper. The shrimp is okay slightly under seasoned. The Mac and cheese and collard greens are ABSOLUTELY TRASH 🗑️🗑️🗑️🗑️🗑️. OMG Mac and cheese is nothing but black pepper and no cheese flavor. Those collard greens?! How dare you? 🤮🤢🤮

Easily the best cat fish I’ve ever eaten in New York. Savory to say the least. Seasoned to perfection. I’m not a catfish enthusiast at all but being able to compare this with the whiting were an excellent combination. The grits were made not too salty, as well as the candied yams that were in abundance. I had dinner for the night and was able to make two sandwiches for lunch and an early dinner the next day with the amount of portions I had! First time I visited and I will absolutely be back soon.

Food is wonderful especially their catfish. They catered for my teams Employee Appreciation week everyone loved the food.

This was my 1st time eating catfish, it was well seasoned and enough pieces. The shrimp were in abundance, well seasoned as well! I would highly recommend this spot to my friends

How come every Southern fried fish place I've been to all have the worst process for ordering their food? Below are things that are always present in places like these: 1. No clear place to line up and place my order. 2. A large number of people hanging out in a tiny area waiting for their number to be called. 3. The person calling out the order number is drowned out by the music blasting in the background. 4. Almost non-existent seating area. 5. Hot inside with one small broken box fan in the corner, trying to cool down this small area packed with customers. 6. Confusing, barely readable signage. 7. Again, trying to place an order to a cashier behind a glass with music blaring in the background. Here are some simple fixes I believe would solve most of their issues. 1. Turn the music off! 2. Once you place your order, wait outside until your number is called. 3. Get either a loudspeaker or an electronic number poster showing the order ready for pick up. 4. Clean up the posted menu. 5. Get a fan that works. 6. Have a separate pick up area for the Grub Hub and Uber folks. There's more, but I believe these suggestions would resolve 90% of their issues and increase productivity, because despite the apparent problems, the fish is actually pretty tasty. BB

The absolute best fried fish this side of the Mississippi! We were on our way to Central Park and my friends asked if I wanted some fried fish and shrimp. I looooove seafood, I had no idea what I was in for. This place is the absolute best. I got the fish, shrimp and fries. He gave me hot sauce, tartar sauce and bread to go with it. This place reminds me of my childhood. I will always make it a point to eat here when I come to NY. The food was perfectly seasoned, with flavor in every bite. It was hot and it did not take a long time to get the food. My friend got the chicken wings, they were seasoned to perfection. I will absolutely be back. Like as soon as I land I will be heading to Make My Fish so they can make my fish!!! Looking forward to trying the sides next time.

It's local, it's a whole in the wall and we like it just fine. I got the fried fish and M&C - Fish has great flavor, not greasy, and not overly battered. Emphasis on not overly battered because that is a thing at some places. I don't wanna feel guilty eating fish. Great portion size (please keep the portion size the same) and it re-heats well. Next day with some grits, perfect! - M&C gives a homemade feel, it's good and simple. I had to hold off on one start because the 3 times that I've been there's a disturbing smell. I'm thinking it's the floor mats in the waiting space. I'm hoping this will get checked. The staff is cool, familiar family vibe, straight to the point running their business and it's all good. I'll return again and again.

Love, love, love the food here. Can not believe I have never given this place a try! The fried shrimp, mac & cheese are my favorite. The whiting fish, and their tartar sauce was great. Loved the prices, it was very busy, not a long wait. The atmosphere was lively and music rocking!

Amazing food and extremely friendly customer service. Came for a trip with work and ordered the catfish with shrimp and a side of Mac and cheese and collard greens. The catfish and shrimp were fried to perfection, Mac and cheese cheesy and yummy and the collard greens had a great smoky taste. Also ordered an Arnold Palmer it was good but on the sweet side. As for the portion I had enough to eat for dinner left overs.

The wait wasn't long at all, even though it was crowded a sign of good food! The catfish was perfectly seasoned with a crisp golden coating and tender, flaky meat inside. The mac & cheese was rich, cheesy, and comforting, and the greens were seasoned just right. Portions were generous. I was pleasantly surprised. Classic Harlem spot with an old-school vibe. I'll definitely be back!

There are some places that prepare good food and some places got so much pull, that you could be eating at the finest Harlem has to offer and you might stop by Make My Fish afterwards to take some home. That's what I did on a Tuesday, after eating at one of the most reputable Harlem restaurants, I had to drop in on Make My Fish for some catfish. In fact, anytime I'm within range, I'm thinking about Make My Fish. It's that good folks and I'm not the only one. You see people picking up for themselves and people at work. You see people getting off from work. You see couples in there to satisfy their mutual fix. You see mothers in there with baby strollers. IYKYK. This time I took note of how crispy and flaky the batter was on the catfish. The batter was not hiding the flavor. Perhaps they have more time on a Tuesday early evening to make it even better. I have stopped here several times since my last review and have had their fried chicken. Charles need not worry, but Make My Fish can make some chicken. Hot sauce makes it come alive, but it is not the star of the show here. Catfish is the focal point and rewards you consistently. Ask for all catfish to maximize your joy. 4.5 stars!

Everything is ALWAYS good. I try to go at least once a week. I live in Queens. The staff are friendly and professional. The music in the restaurant is just my type as I wait for my food. PLEASE DON'T CHANGE

Imma have to marry some damn body in there lol.this fish sandwich is EVERYTHING. My sister in the back of the car ranting and raving over her meal which was fish mac and cheese and collard greens and ice tea. Plus she want to go back lol me too. Told bae this our first stop after turkey day

Still coming all the way from Jersey for this Fish and Shrimp. I grew up on it and after I moved, nothing compares. I used to go to their sister location on 145st but I come here now to get the Catfish as well. Be prepared to wait but it's worth it.

I went to this spot after seeing an IG post from a popular Food Blogger Influencer and bae bee they did not disappoint. It was a Thursday and when I went to make my order, I informed them that it was ky 1st time and honestly, they treated me like I was a VIP. I made my order and while I waited, the gentleman behind the counter gave me a sample, 1 piece of whiting, catfish and 2 shrimp...It was decadent...Seasoned to perfection, light airy, just overall delicious ...They need to open a spot here in Brooklyn...That's how good their fish is! I will definitely be back...

Had a taste for fish and grits and heard about Make My Fish in Harlem. The restaurant opened at 11:30 am, and I was 3rd on line. It was just a regular take-out spot- not very large. The music was fine, a bit loud, but as I mentioned, it's a take-out place. After I placed my order, it took 15 minutes for my order to get ready. There were 4 pieces of regularly sized Whiting fish, and a container of grits. The fish was lightly browned, but crispy. It was seasoned, and the grits were hot and creamy. It was filling, and I actually had more fish left over. I would go back. If you are ever on 116th, in Harlem, check out Make My Fish. Till we eat again...

This is the best place on earth to get seafood to go! Staff is friendly and food is so fresh and so great! Worth the ride uptown for sure! Shout out to Alex and his team!

I love Make My fish food it is soooo yummy . My fav order that I always get is the catfish dinner with the two sides of potato salad and the yams or two potato salads. As for the service I've had to wait for a little bit but it's times I'm only on line for a few minutes it really depends on how crowded it is . But it stay packed because people love the food but they are nice and try to move the line along as fast as they can. The ambiance is a cool because some good music be playing while you waiting for your food you can vibe out.

I still think about the catfish dinner I had from here. Catfish was perfectly seasoned and remained crispy! None of that soggy fish business over here. My leftovers even heated up nicely in the air fryer. I chose the grits w/cheese and Mac sides which were also delicious. I wish the grits had less cheese but that's a preference. Next time I'll get the plain grits and lemonade. Shoot I'll add a dessert if they have it too. Cash only! But there's an ATM.

Great place with some fresh amazing fish for takeout. Not really a spot to dine in. Not too big of a place either. They are CASH ONLY! We ordered the catfish and shrimp with fries. And whiting and Mac n cheese. The catfish was mouthwatering. Seasoned to perfection. Shrimp were cooked perfectly and tasted so good. The whiting also was delicious. Mac n cheese was scrumptious! Wish we lived closer cause they would definitely see me often! There was about a 15 min or so wait once ordered. They're pretty busy. But it's worth it!

The spot balances quality food with fair prices. All items deliver on flavor promises. All workers exhibit excellent capabilities. Test out different menu items while you're here. This is strictly my own opinion.

Came in on an adventure on a Friday night after work and went right back on Saturday for dinner again! The food is easily a 15/10. The ambiance is cool but if you're looking for a place to sit and eat, walk a few avenues over to the park. Don't be intimidated by the amount of people in and outside of establishment because the line moves quicker than you think. Order is always correct and they make sure to ask you to wait if everything isn't included in your bag. Back to the food, I'm not a fan of shrimp but these are cooked to perfection with a hint of sweetness as if they added a lil sugar to that batter. The fish, if it wasn't fried I would be eating every single day. Catfish is cooked perfectly, seasoned by the ancestral gods and served crispy! The grits are amazing and the greens are cooked down without meat so you don't have to worry about pork being added to your greens. The grits! They were seasoned and buttered up. Definitely satisfied my craving and I was given the option to add cheese! Add it! That Mac n cheese is also good not as greasy as most places serve it. They offer a nice selection of combinations or you can make your own. If you don't eat as much in a sitting you will have food for a few days because the portions are great. It is also enough to share the main but make sure you get your own sides. The drink was a half and half and it was perfect if you like your drinks sweetened! Definitely going back AGAIN.

whoever says this isnt one of the best fish spots in the 5 boroughs had an unusual experience or plain lying. The line sucks at times. But that comes with great food. But they are not lacking by any means just busy. My go to for fried seafood and I live in Brooklyn

This is my second favor fish spot in Harlem. I have been coming here for years. Years years. It's a great spot to get while fresh fish you can take it home and prepare it yourself and u can have it steamed there. This time I came in the the fried snapper shrimp and fries. The fry station is also we're the steam station is located. The fish is pre breaded in individual bins Whiting snapper blue fish scallops shrimp. This is a what you see is what you get the service is cool those Latino men work hard for the money and still give u service with a smile. The fish is always. Cooked well. The fries or the crinkle cut and the condiments are out front so you can pick what you want and add them before they wrap it up.

We went Saturday April 12, 2025. They open at 12pm instead of 11:30am. There was a line outside. The food is ver good. The only draw back was the potato salad & collar green was not prepared. That was a disappointment along with one staff person with a big Afro not covered. I believe, when you open the doors to service the customers, everything should be ready including the grooming! For that I'm only giving 3 stars rating. The other customers were very pleasant & patient.

Wow, wow, wow! I have only two bad things to say about this place. The wait is insane, but that's more due to the volume of customers than the restaurant being slow. Second thing is the Mac and cheese could be cheesier, but flavor wise it's an 8/10. I wish it was closer to home but then again I don't cause then I'd weigh 500lbs eating here on the daily lol.

If you are looking for some bomb fried fish then this is the place. I'm from Cali and I can say the food out here in NY hasn't been nothing to write home about. BUT THIS PLACE......MAKE MY FISH........IS THE BEST FREAKIN CATFISH AND SHRIMP I EVER HAD out in the streets. Usually to get some fish and shrimp that darn good I would have to make it at home myself. When I tell you their shrimp tastes so fresh and seasoned just right. Omg!!! You won't be disappointed. The fish is also seasoned just right. Now the dinner combo is about $26 BUT it comes with 2 nice size portion sides and 3 big pieces of catfish and 10 shrimp. Honestly, you can share it with someone if you trying to watch your figure. My husband killed his but my daughter and I could have easily shared a dinner. We both got the Mac and cheese with yams. The Mac and cheese was cool. I'm a little bias bcuzz I feel that I personally make the best Mac and cheese on the planet lol but baaaybay, their yams was candied. They were just as good as what I make at home. Delicious! It's a little hole in the wall neighborhood spot , take out only. Oh and cash only. Let me not forget to mention that. And yes The parking sucks but you just double park right in the front like everyone else does and you will be fine. Leave someone in the car. It's worth it! Trust me, you won't be disappointed. Loved this authentic Harlem spot. Probably the best catfish and whiting in the world. The portions sizes are huge! Can easily share. Please note that they only accept cash but there's an atm on the premises. The staff is lively lovely and amazing truly! You will wait especially on Saturday up to an hour for food but it's worth it! Delicious delicious. I got a little bit of everything and I loved it. Now my favorite spot

2 for 1 fish dinner was cold and fish dried out. Tast like fish was cooked days ago. What is more to say? So so sorry, the store is called Tast of seafood not make my fish.

Best fried fish I have EVER had. We go the catfish and shrimp. I'm not a big fan of catfish but I enjoyed the fish here. The batter and seasoning were spot on. I'm from Los Angeles and there are plenty of fried fish joints but none I have had compare. Had plenty of meals in NY this trip but this was the best meal I had on this trip. Definitely will make this a must every time I'm in town.

The kind of place you look forward to going to and doesn't disappoint. Wonderfully seasoned before frying, not over-caked with breading, and the seafood itself is tender and well-cooked. The shrimp have a very slightly sweet, almost coconut-y, flavor. Mac and cheese was good, could perhaps have been melted through a bit more when it was baked. The service runs smoothly and quickly. The menu has a good variety and combinations--they know what people like to order. Greens are cooked with turkey. Corn bread is on Fridays only. No chicken on Fridays. Cash only. ATM in-restaurant. The food holds up well to eat later if commuting. There is a window bar you could eat at in-restaurant but there are usually so many people, it would feel crowded to sit and eat.

This spot has been a beloved landmark in Harlem for decades, known for its delicious seafood at prices that won't break the bank! I usually try to avoid fried foods, but every now and then, you just have to indulge and enjoy a little cheat day!

My rating is not because of the food, it is delicious. They have an online option to place an order. TWO DAYS in a row I placed an online order then was refunded my money because they could not fill the order. I have ordered online from them, so I knew it was an option. It they cannot fulfill online orders they should take this option off their website. This is very disappointing and I will not be ordering online from them again.

Excellent taste in the food they prepare and served. A long wait but its worth it. Wide section menu.

Food was very tasty, fresh and sooo delicious. Alex the owner was very friendly! Customer service was on point! Im going back tomorrow just to try his peach cobbler! 100% recommended!!!!

The fish was just like I remember when I used to live in New York City. It was late afternoon so I didn't get to taste the sides because they had sold out next time. I'm in New York. I will come earlier but once again the fish was superb. I wanted to slap somebody.

Just received a takeout order. Very sloppily packaged, with grease spots on the brown bag. Kinda ghetto. The mac & cheese was very good. Establishment should spend a little extra on packaging.

I tried this restaurant for the first time and I honestly have no complaints about this business. The staff was friendly throughout my purchase process especially the cashier. I ordered the fish and shrimp combo with potato salad and collard greens. Everything thing was delicious but the dish that stood out most to me was the potato salad. Most other restaurants have potato salad that is just ok but this was seasoned perfectly. I'll definitely be returning in the future.

My goodness!! MY GOODNESSSSSSSSS!!!! If you don't get down to this place FAST!!!!! You better!!!!!! Ok first this is located in Harlem and if you can't drive.... You BETTER get a cab bec it's CROWDED. The location isn't that big BUT it's worth EVERY dime I spent!!!!!! They gave us samples of the food and when I say I got full off those HUGE samples... these people are NOT stingy With the food. My goodness. I FELL IN LOVE with the people and the food and I am adding this to my list of ..... I WILL BE BACK!!!! The fish is DELICIOUS and the the shrimp are beyond delicious and have a hint of sweet!!! My goodness the sides .... My goodness SOOOOOOOO tasty!! I even got the strawberry cake and oh my it melted in my mouth and lastly the fruit punch kool aid was soooooooooo delicious. You have to try this place.. I PROMISE you won't be disappointed!!!

Sorry the Hype of Make my Fish is just that....The Greasy Catfish was enough to fill a Dixie Peach Jar!!!! Disappointed and sad......I don't understand when you have a formula that works in the beginning try to stick with the consistency...check out who you hire and have the cooks follow the recipe.....GOD Awful GREASY FISH!!!!

I felt like my mom had cooked the fish. It was delicious. Also we had a delivery and it arrived hot. Will definitely order from there again.

I've never been in this establishment but my neighbor frequents it and always shares the food with me. Every time it's very good. The fish is hot, crunchy, and well seasoned. I don't like tartar sauce, but it goes well with the fish and hot sauce. Hopefully one day I can make it and buy some myself.

Fast service! Fish was deliciously crispy yet not greasy. However the banana pudding wasn't what I expected. It was a little on the generic side. They used a bitter cookie on top instead of the original vanilla wafer.
