"This Greenwood spot specializes in not just excellent brews, but also a stellar menu of Indian fare. Chef-owner Prashanthi Reddy serves up naan pizza, spiced nuts and popcorn, mac ‘n cheese (both “gluten-full” and gluten free), biryani, curried eggplant, and spinach daal. It’s all available in the 25-seat, dog-friendly space." - Megan Hill

The barista was very friendly, quick with our order and made very delicious drinks. The cafe is nice and quiet and we will come back when we’re in the area :) My partner and I were able to get a yummy treat with our drinks for under 10$ each. I recommend the chocolate croissant

Lattes are delicious and reasonably priced. Atmosphere is very communal. It clearly is a neighborhood cafe where the owner cares about her community. It's pet-friendly. It's a very cozy vibe. Thursdays - there is food!

Google
Went for a super tasty latte and muffin this morning. Seems like a neighborhood spot for many, though I'm not in Greenwood myself. But two stars off because things are really messy and dirty. I don't mind a lot of decor/clutter, especially since it seemed to add to the vibe in certain ways, but there's a hoarder-type room in back and the bathroom had cobwebs, overflowing trash, etc. There was also no music. None. This made for extended periods of silence, save for my friend and I chatting. It just is really strange to not play any music to set some kind of vibe in my opinion. Definitely awesome for being a cozy spot, just would like it to be a bit cleaned up with some music and then I'd be loving it. That being said, I saw many cute dogs, especially Mingus :)

We came for dinner, which is served only on Thursday nights. Delicious, home-cooked Indian food. Here we have the chicken, which looks simple, but has a really tasty, subtly flavored broth. And the spinach daal. I’ve also had their Aloo Gobi. All the food has been great. The menu was the same both times (those three dishes), separated by a couple of weeks, so I’m guessing it doesn’t change very often. Portion size was generous and price was great. We had some leftovers, and spent only about $15 a person for dinner. Eating outside was lovely, but the indoor atmosphere was a little dark with a small, barking dog. We’ll definitely be back!

Google
Small, stuffy coffee shop that felt messy and unorganized. Rootbeer was sitting next to me the whole hour I was there without being bussed, and there was an old printer and boxes with a random door in the main area. Chai latte wasn’t flavorful at all, but price was good. Owner(?)/barista was chopping raw chicken up front while talking about politics with a friend the whole time I was there. They then were watching videos on their phone at the front during a slow period which made it hard for me to focus on my work as there’s no other music or sound in the place. Just an odd vibe of a place but there were many regulars who came in and the owner/barista seems very friendly and like they make good relationships with regulars in the area.

Google
Makeda & Mingus makes the best Cold Brew Coffee in the city - and I've tried them all! Such a fun place to grab a coffee, chat with the owner and other customers there enjoying their delicious coffee. A community & neighborly feel to grabbing a coffee at M&M, something that's harder to find despite all the coffee shops in the city. 10/10!

Google
Nice, dog-friendly (say hi to Mingus) spot with cheerful staff tucked just off the arterial (push through the neighbors' brunch line and enjoy some better coffee and eavesdrop or participate in the chatty locals' shop-spanning discussion). Options and interesting concoctions abound. Available single origin espresso make for a delightfully novel treat on occasion.

Google
I love this coffee shop!! I just moved to the neighborhood and am so happy to have this so close. The most dog friendly coffee shop I’ve been to (my dog loves the shop dog Mingus), and Prashanthi the owner is so genuinely nice - it’s such a welcoming environment. The coffee is really good and they have Macrina pasteries which are always delicious!

Devan M.

Yelp
I love a good local, lowkey coffee shop. Everyone was super friendly here including the customers that were here. I love finding little hiding gems like this. The morning bun was delicious and so was the coffee!

Jenny C.

Yelp
It's 7:26am on Sunday and the door is locked??? No notice on social media of closure and even the sign on the door says *open at 7am on sunday* Massively inconvenient

Diana C.

Yelp
I tried the pumpkin spice latte and it was good. The espresso was maybe a tad more bitter in the first couple sips but the flavor ratio was perfect - not too sweet or too light. I also got to meet Mingus! Very sweet pup and very much a dog friendly spot. The barista was very friendly and working hard! Very nice little neighborhood spot to grab a latte with your pup.

Gargi R.

Yelp
Went here for the first time today as I was in the neighborhood but I wouldn't return. The coffee is decent. But they don't list the prices on their menu so you have no idea how much you're paying for. Also, the place is extremely dirty. There were literally flies and dust everywhere.

Stephanie C.

Yelp
The owner is nice, so you feel pressured to not to leave a bad review. But out of the hundreds of coffee stops in Seattle, this wouldn't come up as my recommended unless you're looking for a pet-friendly coffee shop. It's named after the furry fren, after all. The atmosphere is quite dark and there's fur all over the seats. It feels disorganized and dirty... so I wouldn't dine in. The menu is simple, which is not bad but also why I don't feel the urge to return, as there isn't anything great about the drinks. I'm not even sure where the beans come from. Popular for the locals, not a place to go out of your way for. I want to support a small business, but this is my honest review in the nicest way I can put it.

Yelp
Moved to the area and have been trying to find my favorite coffee shop. This place is super cute and each time I've gone, the service is friendly without being fake. And there's Mingus - the cute little old pup. What's not to love? I'd highly recommend the Bee's Knees latte. It's got rose and lavender and honey and is just such a treat, especially when you're in the period of winter when spring seems unreachable. Their plain oat milk lattes are great too. Baked goods are from Macrina, which is an excellent bakery, but unknowable what they'll have in stock when you go. Last time I went, Mingus was there and put his little paw on my lap and posed for a picture. What a cutie. We flipped through the owner's copy of Salt Fat Acid Heat that was on the table. Thanks for creating some local flavor, y'all, I'll be back.

Miranda W.

Yelp
Always greeted with good energy! Love the mocha but I also have never had a 'bad' drink here! I really enjoy the local art they support that is for sale and it's nice to be able to pick up their food too for later - Their curry and aloo gobi never disappoints! Dog friendly is just the cherry on top of this cute and funky place!

Harish V.

Yelp
Decided to start our day with Coffee at this spot as it was pretty close to our Airbnb and it was an Amazing choice. The place is kind of mess inside as they have been renovating but the service is amazing. Ordered a latte and regular drip and sat on the patio as one other customer was playing Ukele. Couldn't ask for a better start. Had some conversation with the guy listening him play Ukele .It was slightly drizzling which made amplified the experience. Pros: --------- Friendly Staff Patio Street Parking Dog Friendly Drinks, beer & wine. Quick Service Cons: --------- None to me Give it a try !!!

Chef T.

Yelp
Sweet midnight espresso cold brew, I met you so late in the day and fell in love with you. Smooth little gem that was a delight to drink. I will be back to hang out with your other friends, the espresso shot and maybe a cortado.

Kenna J.

Yelp
Love supporting small, BIPOC owned businesses so I was so happy the coffee was delish and it's in a great area!!! I love the atmosphere and decor, there's plenty to look at during the short wait for your drink! Sweet and genuine baristas, and you can't forget the cutest pup Mingus!!

Preetha A.

Yelp
Neighborhood gem- inclusive space that supports artists, local crafts and local coffee/ beer. Really friendly service. Everyone fits in- young, old, well dressed , messy. If there was a coffee shop version of Cheers- this is it. I go here rarely as its out of the way for me- but it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling every-time i do. This time I sat drinking my oat milk latte and watched customers and their dogs come in and listened in on the small talk. Perfect to unwind in a low key relaxed space. Make a friend!

Brogan T.

Yelp
Another great morning Chai and Morning Roll. They do best chai latte Not Sweet, extra spice with added shakes of cayenne. Whoo Hoo! I told the crowd out front of the corner pancake place to go get coffee while you wait. I am even wearing my new crazy T Shirt. ...yeah that's Probably a dog but of course it's orange and that's why I bought it. And to support them. They're a hidden Gem of Phinney Ridge right nearish the Zoo..... and they love dogs. Great designer beer too. Prash the owner is spicy too , no bananas! FB link for video.... Don't worry mom I wasn't driving......too fast..... No I don't get a commission....just a smile. I even trained a new staff this Sunday morning. One of my 'Churches of Choice'

Kathy K.

Yelp
Didn't even know this place existed but what a lovely find!! Been here twice now. Dog friendly. Great little tea latte drinks and the coffee smells good. Very friendly staff. Comfy seating. What a great little neighborhood shop!!

Celina G.

Yelp
I can't stop singing my praises!! The owner is really funny & friendly, and she makes great coffee to boot! The seating is perfect for the space, and little Mingus is a gracious host. We'll definitely be back again soon!

Mads Z.

Yelp
I went to this coffee shop for the first time today and I love it already - please go here . This is a classic Seattle coffee shop - one with delicious coffee, incredible latte art, an adorable namesake dog in-store, delicious pastries, beautiful art, a wonderfully welcoming owner who let my wife, friend and I stay longer than we probably should have. I wish there was a Makeda & Mingus in my neighborhood - just the epitome of an excellent, whimsical, welcoming local cafe. Thank you!

Yelp
4/6/19 Little over s week after my first visit for Thursday Indian Dinner I had the excuse to visit yesterday for Wink Doughnuts Pop Up was a great excuse to come to Makeda & Mingus early to finally try some of the beverages. Surprisingly none of them were coffee. Started with the golden milk I like to get one if it's available somewhere. She does a beautiful latte art on top. Flavor was hood and wasn't gritty like some I've had at other places. Purchased my doughnuts and wanted to do one of the pairings so enjoyed my vegan gf doughnut Passion a hibiscus sweet tea glaze with passionfruit drizzle with a Makeda and Mingus Hibiscus iced tea. Wrapped up the morning with a Phinney Fog a play on London Fog but using mint tea instead of earl grey I'm not an earl grey fan so this was a nice alternative. I love all the alternative milk options Hemp is my go always great to find a place that offers it! Greatest part of the morning was conversing with the owner and regulars before the crowd arrived for the pop up. Was a amazing-to watch her pump beverages. She was great at letting people know how many peoples drinks were ahead of them, keeping her cool during the busy non stop ordering and delivering them to the right people. it's a ways from Ballard but would definitely come for more visits. It's a warm welcoming neighborhood coffee shop. Most people probably come here for coffee.I specifically came here for the Thursday homestyle Indian dinner that a friend had told me about. Was the perfect meal and location going from UW to Ballard. Was looking for a woman owned place to support during Women History Month and decided to come here. We were served three curries two vegetarian and one chicken along with naan and rice. There was a cauliflower-tomato, lentil and spinach I believe and the chicken. Each was delicious we probably would've drank the broth from the chicken dish out of the bowl but we behaved and spooned the flavorful broth over our rice. My friend ended with an affogato and i had one if the pecan apricot cookies from Macrinas I loved that she asked it I wanted it heated up was sooo good that way. Definitely want to come back for one of her specialty tea lattes. Bonus was meeting Mingus, warm welcoming cafe.

Yelp
My fav drink most of the time chai but It's a risk every time I ask for it in a new place well that was not the case here it's delicious in fact I want to go back every day ... The barista is amazing, patient ,friendly good vibes only for this place and his amazing art as well.

Yelp
How I heard of this place: We often frequent the establishments around the corner (Pete's Eggnest, Gorgeous George's) and happened by Makeda numerous times without giving it a second glance. My sister, a big fan of Gilmore Girls asked me to stop by the Luke's pop-up, which first brought me to Makeda. Type of cuisine: "We offer a wide range of custom roasted coffees, teas, beers and wine in our cozy café in the Greenwood neighborhood of Seattle. We hope you come visit us sometime soon!" A selection of pastries and baked goods from Macrina are available to patrons as well. Ambiance: Long lines and many people shoved together inside made for some difficulty in getting a good sense of the space, but the inside certainly seemed bigger than what you see on the outside. One small bench outside the street facing window gives Gilmore Girls fans the opportunity for selfies on their way inside. Indoors, an open entryway gives space for the lines building up out the door and up the block. Cozy couches sit up against the wall with coffee tables giving the air of a living room. Low ceilings, dim lighting and a bustling order counter give warmth to the cafe on this dreary, rainy Seattle autumn day. What I ordered: The free drip coffee with simple syrup and half-n-half. What I loved: Simple syrup on the condiment bar! Why I loved it: Comfortable, cozy, and easily a place you would call a community cafe. We are definitely coming back. Cost: Average

Priyanka S.

Yelp
Drinks - Average I got a hot chocolate and my boyfriend got a Mocha. Ambiance- very Poor The place was filthy and disgusting . There was no place to sit or even properly close the lids on the coffee cups. There was a strong smell of food which we think she was making in an instant pot while serving coffee. The food smell came on to our clothes and wouldn't come out until a dry clean.

Shuchi J.

Yelp
We stopped by this cafe when going on a self guided coffee tour in seattle for my tourist friends and we adored the vibes of the place. It's an aesthetically clustered shop with indoor and outdoor seating, so many cute local brands and artists featured in little booths and the cutest little dog named mingus! The owner took our orders and we had a wonderful conversation about the history of the store. The vibes were super homey and casual, we loved it! I got a chai latte and omg the way it's actually real chai and not the sugary stuff starbucks claims is chai. The chai was delicious!! My friends got 2 iced lattes and a blueberry scone, the scone was amazing, and the coffee was great, just a little on the milky side. would 100% visit again, I even bought the cutest zine about cat toe beans and a pack of handmade gift tags.

Yen D.

Yelp
Great place for coffee especially since they use the pour over method instead of the mass prepared drip coffee which can make the coffee taste bitter. There's also Indian food nights on Thursday where the owner makes a Indian dish for dinners here. Mingus is the name of the dog who approaches you when you walk in the door.

Kat K.

Yelp
I sincerely hope you get to meet Mingus the dog during your visit because I did once and I got to cuddle with him for hours! I went to Makeda a few times in the fall and always left pleased. It's a small cafe, but they make good lattes and chat away with you just the right amount. I worked there each time and never got interrupted or anything like that. I also felt safe leaving my stuff behind during restroom breaks, which is a rare feeling. I'm terrible with names so I can't recall which baristas served me on each occasion, but I remember being happy with them. I had the opportunity to see how they deal with rush, regulars and demanding people coming in, and I was really happy with how they handled everything. I'm definitely going back.

Jessica S.

Yelp
Such a cozy coffee shop in a convenient area. They atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. They seem very active in the community with the types of signs they had display d on the wall. The staff was super friendly and the coffee was delicious. I will most definitely be back.

LadyScary S.

Yelp
This is my favorite coffee and hang out spot in the greater Greenwood/Ballard/Phinney area. The coffee is always on point, and the specialty drinks (like the delicious golden milk latte with coconut milk omg) are delicious. All the food I've tried, like the breakfast sandwiches, pastries, and night where Indian dinner is served, have been super tasty. It's not just a coffee shop, it's a community where I've seen many regulars return and befriend each other. The owner and baristas are amazingly friendly, and there are always cool events happening like craft night or art walks. There's also beer and fun local art and crafts, AND PUPPIES! Mingus, the owner's dog (or is he the owner? Who knows!) is a sweetie and lots of people bring their pups in and hang out. This place is the be!

Ali N.

Yelp
Stayed in an airbnb up the street from here while on my honeymoon back in April. The owner Prash (I do hope i remembered that correctly) is so awesome and welcoming. My wife and I were in there for about 20 minutes and had a very informative conversation about living in Seattle since we are wanting to move up there in a few years. So we got all the dirt from a local and from a local business owner. The location has a very laid back vibe and feels like you are hanging out at that one friend's garages or lofts where all the peeps get together, you know what I mean? There's a very familiar "welcome back" vibe you get when you step in. The latte I ordered was nice and smooth, but what I'll come back for is the mocha. The mocha is made with a house made chocolate and it is to die for. She uses a different espresso than with the latte and this espresso is meant to compliment the chocolate and it totally does.

Jen H.

Yelp
I want to love this place. Typically a small, funky, independent coffee shop is exactly what I look forward to finding. I love that it is dog friendly and I believe it is a woman owned business which I always want to support. Unfortunately I can't really recommend this cafe. This place is dirty and dingy, and I am far from a clean freak. The coffee isn't anything special at all. The pastries usually seem dry and day old. I've been in a few times over the last two years and I seem to always catch the owner/barista in a crummy mood (I can only assume due to the other positive reviews). I've gone in and found the cafe completely empty and had to wait 10 minutes to be helped, been treated like it was an annoyance to have to take my order, then been ignored some more. There is no info regarding what things currently cost in the cafe, you'll usually have to ask for something basic (silverware, cream or simple syrup for coffee, napkins) and my experience is the barista/owner will act a little put out by the request. Maybe she doesn't realize this is how she is coming off, I don't know. I really do allow for the possibility of someone having a bad day but my experiences here have been pretty consistently crappy. Needless to say after trying this place about 6-7 times over the last couple of years and bringing my dog here too, at this point I don't think I will be going back.

Joseph W.

Yelp
This is one of the nicest cafes I've visited in Seattle. Not in the traditional Instagram way, but in a quaint, neighborly sort of way. The cafe is dog-friendly--a trio of puppies jumped up when I entered--and the barista when I was there was super friendly, but in a very welcome and non-intrusive way. The coffee is great, too--even the drip. There's not a lot of room inside, but it's a great place to meet a friend for some catch-up over coffee and pastries. And dogs.

Lei G.

Yelp
Visiting family in the neighborhood and wanted a coffee to start the day. Walked in after the rush and grabbed an espresso with steamed milk - delicious! Great friendly service - would definitely stop by again.

Ace G.

Yelp
This is my favorite little coffee shop. And by little I mean little. There's maybe seating for only 20 people, but that adds so much to the quaintness of this spot. When I walked in, there were 5 people sitting and enjoying their coffee in quiet conversation. The bariza, who also think was the owner, was so gracious and pleasant to talk to. I intend on bringing my wife here the next time we are in the neighborhood. I also am a fan of any establishment that allows dogs. All in all, I would highly recommend coming here.

Brian L.

Yelp
My experience here was good. There was nobody else in the place, so I had it to myself to work a little. No real outlets, but come on people charge your freaking machines before you go out somewhere. I never understood why nobody does that. The mocha was tasty, flavorful. The environment was cozy; because it was mostly empty (expect for a patron that came in later that seemed to know the owner and they friendly chatted), it was actually kind of messy. There was a jacket with unknown owner thrown on the pew across the wall, one of the tables has crumbs on it, another table was rickety, a little dog wanders about and mostly sleeps on the couch in the back but sometimes yaps annoyingly. The back area also seemed to have/encourage children's play. I would not like to be here with loud children. Thus, I expect it is not a place where a young person would typically come to convene and work on their Apple device. But, a nice place and a nice neighborhood.

Erika B.

Yelp
This place is adorable! They have great tea options for non-coffee drinkers like myself, a great community feel, and a friendly dog to make you feel right at home. This spot also offers a great working atmosphere for remote workers. I'll definitely visit this spot regularly.

Erika F.

Yelp
I have to just say that I had the most delicious latte from this cute little coffee shop yesterday morning while waiting for the 5 bus. Service was fast and friendly, there were little puppies running around and I will definitely be back when I'm in the area again.

Aaron H.

Yelp
I am entirely thrilled that I decided to try this place. Walking up, I was unsure. Walking in, I was even more unsure. It feels small and homey, but not in this new "hipster homey" way that most espresso/coffee shops are going for. This "homey" was more of an, "Oh shoot, am I going to be convicted of breaking and entering? Is that the family guard dog? I'm so sorry, I'll leave." The owner and her dog were the only living souls in the room. Despite my initial reaction, I was immediately welcomed by a wonderfully friendly face. The mocha I had was wonderful, and of the 20-ish coffee shops I visited while I was in Seattle, this was the only conversation I had with a barista. And boy, she knows her stuff. I told her I was from Wisconsin, and she was able to name a handful of coffee shops in my area. Friendly, quiet, and quality coffee. This would definitely be one of my go-to's if I were a local!

Allen T.

Yelp
What a little neighborhood gem! Great coffee, and great baked goods. They even put up with my yippie dog. The dill and cheddar scone was fantastic. So were the gluten free muffins. Great spot with great service. Thanks!

Nicole B.

Yelp
I usually frequent some spots around the corner from here, but happened to stop in with my mom when we couldn't find seats at our local haunts. I'm happy to have discovered Makeda! A) they're dog friendly, B) their coffee is great, and C) baristas are welcoming. We were there on a Monday afternoon and only one other small group was there, so plenty of seats. The place could do with a bit of a makeover; lots of tables are wobbly and worn down, and same for the seats/benches. We were lucky to snag the large table by the window which seemed to be the best spot. I'm always looking for places I can bring my dog to, so I'll certainly be back here!

Sue G.

Yelp
Maybe a 3.5 star at best ... good location, cute spot, friendly staff... but been there twice now both times had a watery chai tea latte and today I had a stale donut. Just ok if you are nearby I guess

Jasmine T.

Yelp
What a cute little coffee shop! Service was great and they are dog friendly. Unfortunately we didn't bring our dog, but as soon as we walked in we could see little things they do for people that bring their dogs. I ordered a regular latte and it was creamy and the perfect temperature. I don't like my drinks too hot, but mine was perfect. Husband ordered the lavender latte with soy. I snuck a sip. It was great if that's your thing, but it was a little too sweet for me. Everything is locally sourced. Great place

Opal D.

Yelp
Messy and rough around the edges, Makeda is certainly small and local... in that it looks like I might have walked into someone's garage that they just decided to run a coffee business out of. A messy pile of grimy children's toys sit in the corner - desperate for someone to take some bleach spray to it. I was pleasantly surprised by was the beautiful latte art but that alone won't bring me back. Verdict: Not recommended.

Marja H.

Yelp
If you want cold day old pastries and even colder service, then this is the perfect place for you.

Dan B.

Yelp
Formerly 7 roasters, this location will continue with selling seven coffee but with a new amazing owner. Still 5 star coffee, just a new name.

Michael K.

Yelp
Half of my friends work in coffee shops, the other half drink epic amounts of coffee. I... don't drink coffee. In fact, when offered what was considered by the pros to be the Aston Martin of the espresso world, I merely remarked "mmmm, it tastes like coffee." I know, I fail. On the no fail side, Makeda Coffee's version of Affogato is fantastic. Molly Moon's ice cream topped with espresso (which tastes like coffee) is a fantastic way to start, continue, or end your day. Yum yum yum. They have lots of other stuff and things here, which you all would understand better than I, but I give it the non coffee drinker's stamp of approval!

James E.

Yelp
The food at Wayward Cafe is nothing to write home about (note to self: review Wayward Cafe) but the coffee was incredible. That coffee was credited to Seven Coffee Roasters which is now Makeda. A half pound of Ethiopia is organic, fair-trade, and absolutely delicious as stovetop espresso. Add the coffee to a soy latte and soy mocha and your total is $12. $12! I mean this in a good way. If caffeine didn't crack me out I would've ordered another soy latte before leaving the 'hood. I have to take off one star on account of the pastry selection: in terms of vegan offerings, they were of the day-old variety. But I'll gladly swing by Mighty-O and bring my own vegan goodies to Makeda!

Deborah S.

Yelp
A hidden gem, this place has become my Friday morning treat. I drop off my girl at school then wander my way over. A cup of drip sometimes, a machiatto sometimes, a latte sometimes. Doesn't matter what it is it's going to be great. It's small. The same people tend to be here and you get to know them. Unlike some cavernous coffee shops, discussion breaks out amongst regulars . (They'll leave you alone if you wish of course, or you can join in.) This is a neighborhood joint, and they serve great coffee.

Ni M.

Yelp
Part of me wants to wait until I graduate to review Makeda to keep the secret to myself. This quiet neighborhood spot has all the makings of a perfect study fort: stable tables (diagraming biochem pathways on a wobbly table is hell), power outlets, fantastic espresso and tea. The baristas are genuine and friendly, no pretention in their service or music choices. (from Matt & Kim to Backstreet Boys? Yes, please!) Not a lot of seating, but I haven't seen them in a rush. Also be warned that the tables are smallish - good for laptops or a textbook sprawl, but not both.

Yelp
I just moved to the neighborhood and am so thankful that Makeda is just up the street. Wonderful staff, great kid-friendly environment, and great coffee.

Yelp
My plan was to arrive at 7am, I didn't manage that, I arrived closer to 7:30. I had to parallel park on the street, I didn't see any signs about the limitations of that parking, I've been having to parallel park my entire visit to Seattle, I can not wait to get back home. The location was off the main corner of the street and a bit farther back on 78th than I was expecting. I believe it was the third store in. Prashanthi was the only one working at that early hour on Saturday. There was one or two other customers inside when I arrived, but as time passed many more people kept arriving. Each person was greeted and chatted with, most seemed to be regulars. Parents brought their children, people came in with their well behaved dogs then sat out in the outside seating. Overall the atmosphere was a happy, busy local shop with tons of regulars. Everyone was happy, talkative, and Prashanthi kept the conversations going asking about upcoming family birthdays she knew about and other things showing off how connected the shop is with it's customers. The store itself was skinny but long and comfortable. There was quiet, upbeat, music playing at a volume that didn't stop conversations but also provided a nice backbeat to the place. The store was all rich colors and art that made it a nice friendly atmosphere. There was plenty of table seating, bar seating, and outdoor seating. In the back was a comfortable couch and bookshelf full of books. I noticed a sign advertising a board games night on Fridays! Near the front door was used coffee grinds available for everyone to take home for their compost or gardens. On the condiment bar was a microwave and real silverware. While talking with Prashanthi I found out she has worked for years in the coffee shop industry, coming all the way from barista to assistant store manager. She has a true passion for coffee and customer service. She is very knowledgeable about the entire process of getting the best cup of coffee and knows the importance of the (green) beans themselves, the way they are roasted, and the way they are prepared. She has always considered owning a coffee shop, and things happened to line up a few years back enabling her to realize that. She is an east coast transplant but seems to be thriving here on the west coast. There was a large assortment of loose leaf teas, beers, wines, pastries, and of course espresso beverages. Makeda sells only coffees from Seven Roasters Coffee. While there I watched her make many beverages for the other customers, I failed to get photographs of some of the beautiful late art foam patterns, but I can tell you each cup was carefully prepared. The beans were ground fresh for each pull, and nothing sat - it was lovely to watch the slow of the drinks being prepared in one well timed seamless process. I ordered an Assam large tea, and a buttermilk raspberry scone for there. The pastry came on a colorful and sturdy plate, while the tea arrived as hot water with a make your own paper teabag on the side in a teabag dish. Bless her heart! This allowed me to make the tea steeped to my desired strength, and she measured the leaf into the bag for the amount of water poured. It may be called Makeda coffee but the allow tea fanatics to get the best from their lovely loose leaf! I let my tea steep for 1 minute and 30 seconds. Color: Golden red-brown Body: Medium Tea Smell: Rich black tea Taste: smooth, crisp, full black tea with no astringency and no bitterness I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and plan to return before my trip home tomorrow night. If you are ever in Seattle, although it's outside city center it is worth the trip to stop by this gem of a neighborhood coffee shop.

Yelp
I love this place. I am not a coffee drinker, nor do I even live in the neighborhood. I love tea. I love chai tea even more. I happened to stop by this place by accident and I tried the Chai Tea Latte with cayenne pepper. It's been my favorite drink ever since. I will drive out of my way to come here to reward myself after a long day. Service is friendly, approachable and timely. It's also dog friendly. Most of all, the atmosphere is comfortable and unpretentious. It's easy to feel at home here.

Yelp
I really enjoy the unique and laid back atmosphere of this cafe, and they have a little area with kid friendly coloring, games, etc. which my young daughters enjoy! I also found out recently that they have a craft night every Tuesday evening, where you are welcome to come in with your own crafts. I like their coffee, and they also have a good variety of milk alternatives, which I appreciate, being lactose intolerant. It's difficult to find a coffee shop in our area that isn't a chain and still has a strong connection to the neighborhood. This one is a keeper!
