I am a massive sushi lover, and somehow even knowing this is here never stopped in. Don't make my mistake, if you love sushi as I do, get your butt in here.
Having had sushi everywhere from supermarkets to wicked expensive restaurants, I can tell you that elementarily, all sushi is the same: rice, fish, vegetable; maybe some kind of dairy (cream cheese, for instance). Everything else is secondary: sauces, tempura flakes, etc... it adds flavor, sure, but at the core, it's the same stuff.
Why am I saying all this? Sushi at expensive restaurants has a lot of bells and whistles. It looks pretty, but burns a hole in your wallet. Take away the bells and whistles, and you get this place: amazing taste and quality at a reasonable price.
The quality of the fish in any sushi is key, especially since it is raw. That said, the quality of the fish here is top-notch. Without exaggeration or hyperbole, this is the best quality fish I've seen, even better than that one expensive restaurant I keep mentioning. Not a bit of stale taste or unnecessary fat.
I couldn't comment on the sushi here individually, since my family and I ordered the boat for four! The three is us eat sushi like vacuum cleaners! Which is why we were incredibly surprised we couldn't finish all of it.
Everything in that boat was fresh, and put together with great care. There were some small bells and whistles which helped differentiate everything, and add even more taste. I particularly loved the one which had a bit of crunch, and was quite spicy! I'm sorry I don't know which one this is.
I also love the sashimi! Because this is just a raw piece of fish, this is where the quality really shines.
Rice was great too! My only critique is that the rice could have used one and a half more drops of rice vinegar, but this had a minuscule, if any impact on taste and quality.
The boat also came with a bowl of Miso soup and a salad for each person. Miso soup was solid, I have no critiques about it, nor was it drop-dead amazing... then again, miso soup is quite simple.
The salad itself was surprisingly good. The lettuce maintained the freshness trend, it not a single wilted leaf. What really made it great though was the sesame dressing they use. It was quite refreshing, and superbly complemented the lettuce.
The service was fast (although to be fair, we arrived at opening), polite, and attentive. The location is small, but clean and cozy!
