All the New Restaurant Openings in Minneapolis and St. Paul | Eater Twin Cities

"Opened on Hamline Avenue in Roseville on July 26, Makwa is an Ojibwe-owned coffee shop where owner Jamie Becker-Finn incorporates Ojibwe culture throughout the space—the name means “black bear” in Ojibwe and the Ziigwan cold brew is sweetened with maple syrup—and she’s selling bags of hand-harvested wild rice from the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe. The shop reuses tables and chairs rescued from St. Paul’s Black Dog Cafe and includes a cozy Hogwarts-themed fireplace nook for sipping coffee in chilly months." - Justine Jones

Wonderful coffee spot. What really struck me was how friendly the staff are! The latte I had was perfectly balanced, and I’d like to try some drink specials next time! They have fruit & grains pop tarts too, which are so delicious. They have board games too. Great vibes and perfect place to relax, study, or catch up with some friends! Definitely recommend if you’re in the area.

Amazing Barista at the front recommended the blueberry muffin latte! Thank you! It was delicious 😋 Really cute coffee shop! And busy! Surprisingly it was not loud with all seats inside being taken and gave a more calming vibe 😌

Makwa is such a gem! I love their ziigwan sugar maple cold brew, pomegranate lemonade, & gourmet pop tarts from Fruit & Grain. They always have a great lineup of fun seasonal drinks too. The staff are very friendly, the space is super cozy & inviting, & they host a lot of cool community events. Can't recommend this place enough.

Adorable local coffee shop, perfect for meeting with friends, passing by on your way to work, or sitting down to get schoolwork done. Their coffee was fantastic, loved that they offered lots of books and games for visitors, and the service was excellent. My only complaint is that there was very little food options available. On the day I went, it was either banana bread or pizza, and I usually like to see a bit more variety. Regardless, will be going again for the coffee and ambiance!

I got the Niibin iced miel but I also love the honey bear and the blueberry muffin latte! They have different baked goods throughout the week that are SO GOOD! -a baker who comes in on Sundays to make muffins and often some gluten free options as well! - banana breads on Tuesdays and Fridays -home-made pop tarts on Wednesdays and Saturdays!!(one of my personal favorites)

We rented Makwa outside of their normal business hours for a private event to celebrate our daughter’s high school graduation. Having moved out of state her sophomore year, this was the perfect venue to gather together with our TC family and friends. Makwa provided the beverages and we brought in decorations, and sweet & savory treats. So many guests asked how we found out about this most perfect venue. Luna was on hand as barista for any specialty drinks, and was delightful. The evening was perfect and Jamie was so easy to work with in regards to the arrangements. Many thanks to Makwa for making the grad party a memorable and perfect event! 🥰
