The 38 Best Restaurants in New Delhi - Eater

"When the Dalai Lama fled Tibet for India in 1959, Tibetan immigrants followed, bringing along momos, the stuffed, steamed dumplings that have since become one of Delhi’s most popular street snacks. Nepali vendors sell them by the roadside all over the city, but you can also find them in the Majnu Ka Tilla area, home to some of Delhi’s Tibetan community. Near the neighborhood monastery, you’ll find a stall selling laphing, a flat, translucent pancake stuffed with soybeans and tossed with red chile paste and green onions. Then hop to the Himalayan, a beloved restaurant that serves all kinds of momos and other Tibetan favorites like shabaley (large, deep-fried, savory stuffed pastries), tingmo (yeasty bread shaped like a mountain and eaten with tea or stewed meats), and a cold beer. For tea and cake, head to the small AMA cafe, which is popular among students. Ask your taxi to drop you on the side of the monastery and then walk down the only lane to find the stalls and restaurants. [$]" - Sharanya Deepak

We came in one quiet evening but was not disappointed with the food or the brilliant service. The portions are really big and the Momo platter is huge so be warned before you order. It was the first meal we had which wasn't a curry, there are plenty of tasty veg options. Finally want to give a shout out to Yeaugel who was very attentive and was able to make sure we were well looked after, thanks 👍🏿

I had one of the worst experiences at Machen La in Majnu Ka Tila. The service was absolutely pathetic — staff was inattentive, and seemed completely disinterested in serving customers. Despite multiple reminders, basic requests like water or cutlery were ignored for 50+ minutes.

It was a fantastic and delightful experience at this Restaurant. This restaurant has traditional yet warm ambience with colourful decor and melodious Tibetan background music. We started with Pork Ribs and Hot-pot, both were well-spiced and came out hot and Fresh. Specially the hot-pot soup which is mixed with various locally sourced species( may be Tibetan style). If you’re really into spicy foods, this is the place for you. The service was also Excellent and our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu especially Rajesh bro. The staff overall seemed genuinely friendly and well trained.. 🙂🙂🙂

Pros: 1) momos fried beans fried bok chop was tasty 2) mala tofu was good but less gravy so hard to eat with rice and bland too 3) place is tastefully done 4) nice seatings 5) momo spicy sauce was good Cons: 1) chowmein was dry and distasteful 2) too many mosquitoes 3) we were seated by the reception and when we called the waiter multiple times he arrived worth the menu lethargic and as we wanted to place the order he said that it's only 3 minutes left to place the order so we hurried to order and while placing the order he interrupted us looked at the watch and told us mid way that he can't take any more order times up. We were shocked and had to go complain upstairs about this nasty behavior and after that we were served food and we had to finish hurriedly and I was just aghast at how he could behave so rudely with us. If they didnt want to serve they should mot have seated us at all to begin with.

It kindof was hard to find the restaurant. We got alil confused at first. Anyway the restaurant gives you very Tibetan style vibe n the decors used looks so beautiful. Service was very good. As we went at an odd time around 4pm. Food v orders were tofu curry n chilly noodles n tingmo n cranberry mocktail all were okok in taste. Not as expected.

As soon as you enter the restaurant the stunning interiors will take you to the hills. Their Tibetan monastery influenced interiors are really attractive and the seating is spacious. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Courteous staff and has good knowledge about their menu. Just had a plate of Chicken Momo and Tingmo accompanied with Buff and Green Cabbage Stir Fry. Momos taste authentic, absolutely loved them. The Buff and Green Cabbage Stir Fry was lip smacking. Light flavours yet delicious. Will definitely visit again soon. Visited the restaurant second time. Good experience with the food again. The Fried rice is just out of this world. Portion size is great and I think they used Ghee and it tasted heavenly. Also ordered the Stir fried Beans along with this which was a good combo.
