Malakor Thai Isaan Review - Coral Gables - Miami - The Infatuation

"This Thai restaurant is located on the main drag of Miracle Mile in Coral Gables. They specialize in food from the Northeastern region of Isaan, which is known for its boldly-flavored (read: spicy) food. The menu has some unique regional specialties, but—beyond a couple dishes—the food seriously disappoints.  Let’s start with the good news: an Isaan appetizer of pork jerky reminds us of char siu in a good way and comes with Thai Sriracha for dipping. The Isaan sausages are pleasantly sour and garlicky. And another appetizer of deep-fried pork ribs are crisp on the outside and give way to very tender, tangy meat with just the type of funk you want from proper Thai food. But that’s about all that’s good here. The Isaan som tum is a bizarre failure—somehow both way too salty and sweet. A bamboo shoot soup flavored with yanang was shockingly plain. Even their pad thai features soggy noodles and is dressed in what could be best described as simple syrup.  The bulk of the dishes here just don’t live up to the menu’s descriptions—and the resulting experience feels like being in a Twilight Zone episode where Thai food has no flavor." - Carlos C Olaechea

Restaurant Review: A Delightful Culinary Experience on Miracle Mile During our recent visit to a sushi spot on Miracle Mile, we were treated to an exceptional dining experience. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating, and we opted for the cozy ambiance indoors. We started with the Red Dragon Roll, which proved to be an excellent choice. The roll was packed with bold flavors and was generously portioned. The accompanying sauces elevated the taste, adding an extra layer of deliciousness to every bite. For our appetizer, we selected the Sample Appetizer for Two, which featured an enticing assortment of Chicken Satay, Thai Dumplings, Spring Rolls, and something intriguingly named Money Bags. I was curious about the Money Bags and discovered they are delightful, fully edible pouches filled with a flavorful vegetable mixture, cleverly crafted to resemble tiny money bags. Each item was perfectly prepared, fresh, and bursting with authentic flavors. Overall, everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. The combination of high-quality ingredients, thoughtful presentation, and flavorful dishes made for an unforgettable meal. I’m already looking forward to returning and exploring more of their menu offerings. Highly recommended for sushi lovers and food enthusiasts alike!

Absolutely delicious! This authentic Thai food spot on Miracle Mile is a hidden gem. The dish comes out hot, flavorful, and full of love. The coconut curry is a must-try—rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced with spices. You can really taste the freshness in every bite. Highly recommend if you’re craving real Thai food with amazing flavor and great service.

This past Thai is by far one of the best, and I’ve been to a lot of major cities, it’s similar to one near Chicago that I’ve had and may just be superior to that one. Super grateful I trusted these reviews. Keep in mind being in the Miami land area that a lot of things are over hyped. This dish was flavorful, juicy, well cooked and hot even being that I’d ordered it delivery via Uber Eats. Which is always a fear of mine when ordering to go as sometimes I find variation in quality of work when ordering to go. Keep doing what you’re doing you guys!

Google
This place is INCREDIBLE, truly a hidden gem. I’m mad I’ve lived in the area for the past couple of years and didn’t get to experience this place until now. I have not had such a homey style of cooking like this in a long time at a restaurant. Hands down one of the best Asian spots in Miami. I’ve never really had northern Thai food before and I was ~impressed~ Everything we ate was a flavor explosion in my mouth. We got the chicken laarb, fried pork belly and the Isaan style pork curry. Highly recommend all of these dishes if you like strong flavors. :)

Google
Authentic, delicious Thai restaurant! They have some Northern Thai specialties which you can’t find everywhere. The ambience is lovely and relaxing. The service is friendly and efficient. The whole fried fish was exactly what we wanted. The sauce was spicy with a note of sweetness, really complementing the fried fish. The southern Thai curry was a unique dish and we found it very tasty. The Isaan sausages are a good appetizer to try. Highly recommend the som tum . We tried the Isaan style with anchovy and salted black shell crab. It is such a great combination of flavors - salty, spicy, and sweet. If you’re looking for delicious Thai food in a beautiful setting, this is the place you are going to love.

Google
A wonderful lunch experience very fresh & tasty dishes with the perfect spice level for us (#3) the service was the highlight friendly and efficient. Genuine atmosphere for an Asian restaurant. we are definitely going back

Google
The most salty Crab meat fried rice I have ever had in my life. It’s literally just soy sauce mixed with rice then sprinkled with some premade salty old looking crab meat on top. As an Asian, I have never seen a crab meat fried rice made like this! Why are the fried rice so brown? The authentic one doesn’t look like this! And I paid almost $20 for this… took one bite, can’t even swallow them.

Google
I don’t often leave reviews because I don’t like to be on my phone much, but this place was such a pleasant find! I am in town for my best friend’s wedding and was very hungry when I got in from the airport. I was looking for a fresh, tasty & affordable meal and this place checked all the boxes !!! ⭐️ 🌟 ⭐️ 🌟 ⭐️ They have an awesome lunch special too where your main plate comes with miso soup or a salad which felt like the perfect little extra. Even at 2pm there were other guests with lots of takeout orders

Yelp
What an incredible Thai place. Great flavors, friendly service and wide variety of options to choose from. Totally recommend it.

Yelp
I got served the soda in a glass that had lipstick from the last patron not fully cleaned off, and the server didn't know what "mild plus" was for spice levels. At $20-$30+ per dish, I was surprised at the lack of care with cleaning the glasses and the lackluster service. The one time the server checked on me he filled my Sprite with water. The restaurant is open seating and half the shop is traditional chairs and tables while the other half of the shop is low tables to dine while sitting on cushions on the floor. The pad Thai - the most common of all Thai dishes and a staple of any Thai restaurant - was fine. It's nothing I'd write home about, or recommend to a friend. It was just... there. They've fallen into the trap of relying on added spice in substitution for having a good base flavor. At just under $24 before gratuity for a pad Thai and a Sprite I wanted better. 2/5.

Yelp
The food is not good. I come from nyc and LA where there is every variety of food, especially asian. This is bad. Spicy Basil Thai Fried rice is dry, flavorless, 1 piece of basil, ZERO SPICE, NO FLAVOUR. Gross. And $19????? Rip off, and gross. Pad thai, a spectacular disaster. Dry chicken, sloppy "sauce". Just awful. And around $22. Bad bad bad. Awful waste of money and time.
google avatar

Yelp
Hmm, the food were okay. I got the pad see eew, the flavor was there, but the noodles were too saggy. The chicken satay is not too bad, but all the flavor were just relying on the peanut sauce, the chicken itself taste pretty plain. My friend did not like her fire chicken with rice, it just tasted like orange chicken. The Tom yum soup, however, was probably the worst Tom yum soup I've ever tried in a Thai restaurant. The soup feels like hot water mixing with the powder from those fast noodle package, all I can taste is msg and I can't taste any real ingredients that were used to cook the soup like lemongrass and tomato, etc.

Yelp
Malakor Thai Issan is fairly close to MIA, so we stopped for lunch before a flight. For Miracle Mile, parking was easy midweek. The restaurant is small and cozy with colorful Thai adornments and a beautiful water serpent mural. Tom Yum Seafood had a good variety with shrimp, calamari, and even small oysters. It was very tasty with lots of basil, cilantro, mushrooms and the right amount of heat. It was one of the best Tom Yums I've had in a while. I usually like Tom Yum Koong or shrimp, so this was a nice change I'd recommend if you want soup. We shared Crispy Pork Belly that was stir-fried with basil, onions and topped with 2 fried eggs. With white rice it was authentic Thai! I'd prefer it even more crispy, but maybe we let it sit too long while drinking our soup. Our Mango Sticky Rice dessert came shaped like a heart. It disappeared fast. Malakor doesn't have a liquor license but the Prosecco and Thai beer were fine. We'll be back to try other menu items, especially the Issan specialties!

Yelp
Pleasant service with outdoor seating and yummy food. We were hungry after the airport, and decided to stop by here for a quick meal before checking in our hotel. We were seated quickly, and food also came out sizzling hot! All the dishes we ordered were good. Sauce in Tuna Tartare was a little sweet, but we like the dish over all. Crab fried rice, pad kee mao, papaya salad, laab, and calamari were great. Level 3 out of 5 was a little too spice for us, and we eat spicy. I would order 2/5 next time.

Yelp
Worst wings ever the picture that they post is not what you get you get frozen chicken wings. Granted their sauce was good the way of a price for bad bad wings

Yelp
Absolutely delicious!!!! So so so good, fresh, and super friendly staff. Will absolutely be back!

Yelp
Been coming here for years and never rated them. Food is always great. Tasty and authentic. Service is excellent and the restaurant while it is small it is nice and cozy. This time I did notice they had the temperature a little higher than usual. Maybe to save on the electrical bill but it was borderline uncomfortable. This was a one time thing for me so I'm not going to take away anything from it. Pad Thai is fantastic and probably one of the closest from Thailand. Everything else is great, the Tom Kha Kai soup is amazing. I order it spicy and it is delicious!!! This ain't fine dining, but it is amazing tasty and delicious food that won't disappoint.

Yelp
Cozy, tasty spot serving up traditional Thai food with excellent service Seems like this place doesn't get the attention it deserves. It's one of maybe three spots in all of Miami that serves a full traditional Thai menu, without a side of three different Asian cuisines tacked on to the menu. Papaya salad isn't my first choice but here, it was fresh, tasty and refreshing. Red curry on point. The coconut milk in the Tom Kha was DELICIOUS and rich. So good! Surprise highlight was the Pad See Ew. Thai basil flavor with firm tofu laden atop thick noodles.. can't go wrong. Maybe the best mango sticky rice in Miami! You know it's legit when the sticky rice is warm, the mango is ripe and there is an abundance of condensed coconut milk.

Yelp
We went here for dinner on a Saturday night. We had never been to the Coral Gables area and were hungry for Thai food and thought this looked good. We were seated right away and ordered some chicken peanut satay and California rolls to start. Both were extra tasty. Sadly our entrees weren't nearly as tasty - lots of the protein was over cooked and my hubby found a piece of metal (from a scrub brush, we think) in his entree. We let the staff know - they did give us a discount but were not overly concerned about it.

Yelp
Good little Thai spot in the Gables. It's right on Miracle Mile, so you'll have to look for street parking. They do have outdoor seating, but it's limited. The waiters are very friendly and accommodating, I always eat outside with my Basset Hound so I've never been inside. The food is self is very good and tasty. My only complaint is the outdoor table is just a $8 flimsy patio table, it's not even wood...a little more effort would be nice. And they didn't have lime, what kind of a Thai place, doesn't have lime? If they fix those two issues, I would definitely give it five stars.

Satie D.

Yelp
I'm a pretty easy sell for all things Thai food, so I've been surprised after giving this place a few tries that I've been disappointed both times. The environment and service have been nice overall and I've gotten the chicken satay, Panang curry, pad see eew, and Thai spring rolls. unfortunately, each item on the list was lacking flavor in some way. The noodles were a bit soggier than I'd hope, the flavors were so mild, and the peanut sauce that came with the satay was really the best thing. Of all the places nearby, it's too bad, but this one has ended up on the skip list.

Yelp
I've had takeout from here several times and decided to finally have a dine in experience. I loved the decor. The walls and ceiling are covered with different Asian-inspired touches: dragons, fans, string instruments, buddhas, etc. The service was wonderful. I definitely felt taken care of. I started off with a sweet and strong lychee martini. The tom kha soup had a perfect balance of flavors. For my entree I tried the shrimp with ginger sauce. It was absolutely delicious. Malakor definitely ranks as one of the top Thai places in the neighborhood in my opinion.

Yelp
We stopped by this location two times on separate days and they were closed. The Yelp, Google, and picture of the restaurant hours, are all different. The store hours posted at the restaurant has two different time. The One on the electric lighted sign, and then one print it and post at the window. We really want to try their food but the store was never open so we didn't get to eat. Is the location where is hard to find parking space the front of the store is nicely decorated but we are unsure about it. Looks like inside. Evaluate the food as we have not able to taste it due to the store open at weird hours. We are travelers, so we cannot come back-and-forth. But he really wanted to try so we came back the next day and they still close.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday night for dinner. Got to pick where to sit. Definitely a lot of different options on the menu, including items I've never seen at other Thai restaurants. Ended up ordering the Gang Aom Isaan Curry and the Chiang Mai Egg Noodles. Gang Aom Isaan Curry: This dish peaked my interest because I'd never had curry without coconut milk. I was warned by the waiter that this dish was very fishy, with anchovies. The dish reminded me of a soups Came loaded with vegetables, even one I haven't tried before--Thai eggplant. I realize now that I do like coconut milk based Thai curries more since they're creamier, but I'm glad I tried it. The Chiang Mai egg noodles was definitely more my favorite since it was loaded with creamy curry and noodles. Topped with crunchy noodles that go so well when it soaks in the curry. Definitely sizable so justifies the price tag. Service was very attentive. And I appreciate that the staff really know their menu. Would come here again if I'm in the area and craving Thai food.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious pad Thai, enough portions for 2 meals. The shrimp are flavorful and gigantic, and the noodles have a nice savory yet sweet taste. Do note I went with a level 2 spice level and it had a serious kick (and I'm usually good with spicy food). I'd definitely recommend you give them a try!
google avatar

Rachel H.

Yelp
I have been obsessed with this place lately. Thai restaurant with a variety of options and something for everyone to enjoy. My personal favorite is the tom kha chicken soup, incredible. Such a creamy, savory soup yet refreshing at the same time so I have to get it every time. Also recently had the beef fried rice, spicy tuna roll, and the money bags. I have tried many different things off the menu and everything is flavorful and fresh. Even takeout is always hot when it gets to me.

Yelp
I ordered with Malakor via doordash. I ordered the chicken panang curry. I Sat down to eat and found a bug in my meal. Unacceptable and disgusting . I didn't get a chance to taste the food and I completely lost my appetite.
google avatar

Kelly L.

Yelp
The hospitality has been pretty accommodating, which we appreciate. The food is okay, I like that they offer mango sticky rice which the other Thai restaurant in the neighborhood does not.
google avatar

Thiep M.

Yelp
Food and service was really bad. This is not a Thai or Lao restaurant at all. Food is too sour and salty . I am very sorry, but I do not recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
TOP TOP TOP THAI FOOD...pad thai ...soups etc...even the salads are amazing ...a simple rest but AMAZING food...TRY IT!!

J. Andrea Z.

Yelp
I love this place. The food is of good quality and decent price for it. Always share the plate as the portion is big. It is nicer to eat there so you can enjoy the plates presentation but it is also goos for take out. Love the pad-thai, Yaki soba and dumplings.
google avatar

Milena M.

Yelp
I enjoyed eating Massa Man Curry with chicken, miso soup and Thai Fried Rice at this lovely decorated hidden place in Miracle Mile. The server was welcoming, and the food was delicious and had an amazing flavor. The chef is Thai and most of the staff is from Thailand which is quite important when choosing a good restaurant. I will be back soon with more friends to enjoy tasty dishes
google avatar

Danielle B.

Yelp
I ordered the tofu pad thai as a pick-up order. The noodles had a good taste, but unfortunately the tofu was either overcooked or breaded in a bad way. They also don't include vegetables in the pad thai if you indicate you want it with tofu. I ended up picking my way around the tofu and was disappointed with the dish. Based on other reviews, it seems that their dishes are either great or poor. I just happened to order one that wasn't great.

Yelp
First of all, the drunken noodles are a MUST HAVE! Every bite is so flavorful and I recommend it to everyone I bring to the restaurant.. HOWEVER, I had to rate the restaurant at 4 stars because their Thai fried rice had absolutely no flavor... I almost want to give it a 3 star rating because of how bad it was.. It was almost embarrassing that I had recommended the restaurant as a whole as trying my friend's rice but then I followed it up with "Well I told you to try the drunken noodles". The mango sticky rice is was also good but if I had seen the price before ordering it, I would've gone elsewhere... $10 felt pretty pricey for the dish but I did love the sweet glaze that they added on top.. In terms of the physical restaurant itself, it's a pretty small spot with both indoor and outdoor seating. It seemed to be mainly take out orders so you get plenty of 1 on 1 attention from the waiting staff.

Vee S.

Yelp
I am so glad I found this gem during my visit to the Miami area. Being away from home, I was craving for something spicy and Malakor didn't disappoint. My sister and I enjoyed everything we ordered but the Yum woon seen was what hit the spot. It was fresh, spicy and had the perfect balance of all the flavors. I will definitely go there again next time I'm in town. Service was fast and friendly and restaurant was clean.
google avatar

Yelp
First time here. Ordered for take out as we worked late. Pad Thai was great however it didn't look like the photo on the menu. No peanuts or fresh veggies on the side. The spring rolls were just ok. They come with four for $8. They were so small, like 2" long. I'm use to west coast regular 4". The Satay also wasn't presented like the ones online. Very thin and a bit dry. Just ok on them as well. I would order the pad Thai again but not the others side dishes.
google avatar

Elizabeth F.

Yelp
7/11/23 The food was incredible. Service fast! We had Pad Thai very good and also had the pork basil. Elizabeth F.

Yelp
Was really looking forward to the lobster pad thai here. The wait wasn't long and the service was excellent but the pad thai was very sweet, which I was not expecting, the noodles were all chopped very small, and there was too much sauce making it very wet. I prefer my pad thai on the salty/spicy side. The lobster was a good size but for $32 pre tax and tip, I'm a bit disappointed.
google avatar

Brandon P.

Yelp
The place was cool and they have delicious Thai food. The Pad Thai was so good and has great quality. The Chiang Mai noodle has unique flavor. It taste really wonderful. Noodles texture was good. They have other dishes thats worth to taste. The place was casually good, clean, and has cool decor inside. The customer service was great too.

Yelp
This was some pretty decent Thai food. I have Thai spots that I go to religiously, but they don't deliver/were closed. I decided to try this out. Their portions are impressively large. I ordered pad see ew, and I nearly couldn't even finish. The massaman curry was also huge. I ordered a spice level 2, and so did my boyfriend, but the difference was worlds away. Mine had no spice, and his was very. I always find spice levels so annoyingly confusing/hard to get right. I wanted mine to be spicier. Still, both were good Our friend ordered sushi, and they did not provide chopsticks with his order. I found this peculiar.
google avatar

Karina M.

Yelp
Uhhhh guys? What happened to the chicken satay??? Tonight we literally got thin hard chewy pieces of chicken with a couple of toothpicks stuck to the top like it's a skewer?? (See pic) This old favorite dish of mine went from tender flavorful chicken to jerky. I also have some beef with your spicing system, which is from 0-5. There is zero consistency! We got a "level two" last time on the pad Thai and the basil fried rice and it was so spicy I couldn't take another bite of my food. Literally my husband got two dinners bc I couldn't stand it. And it wasn't like only one dish was over-spiced. BOTH were insanely spicy. So this time we got a "level one." ZERO spice-- bland. I'm so confused. Is there no science to this at all? just done on the fly? There needs to be a universal spice system so that it's consistent each time. Despite our complaints, overall we do like this place. Just hope those concerns will be addressed. PROS: Good value for your money. I really love the basil fried rice. Also the spicy edamame.
google avatar

Nicole I.

Yelp
One of the best Thai food spots in Miami. I order from here monthly using delivery apps such as DoorDash. Quality is great, servings are massive and it's always predictably delicious. Highly recommend the Tom Kha Soup and the Massaman Curry.

Yelp
Food is authentic southern thai . Every dish in the menu is made fresh and deliciously served . Their services go with the food served without saying . Attentive, professional yet personal . I know them by name . I consider them my kitchen away from home. Ambiance is beautiful, love the decor . Outdoor seating is an option if u prefer the open air . A must try . You will be delighted. They are solid 5 stars

Alejandro R.

Yelp
Best Thai restaurant in the Gables. Their Pad Thai is awesome. Great food all around.

Yakshu M.

Yelp
Horrible experience. The food had a bug in it and the owner of the restaurant kept on justifying that its normal for flies and bugs to fall in the food. There is zero sense of hygiene in this restaurant esp because the owner himself has setup a bad norm. I recommend avoiding this place and we have notified food administration to revoke their license.

Gio M.

Yelp
This tiny little Thai restaurant is my guilty pleasure! They have an instagram-able decor. extremely friendly staff and they are so accommodating. My go to here is the green curry. I don't know if this is the norm, as I usually eat red curry at other restaurants, but Malakor adds eggplant, avocado and shrimp to their green curry. I can't believe how wonderful it tastes... I live on the edge and I ask for the level five spiciness. Such a nice heat. I have been to other Thai restaurants that basically make the curry broth and then add your protein afterwards so usually it doesn't have much flavor in the meat or the protein. However, Malakor infuses the meat with flavor. I usually don't order the shrimp curry because the shrimp is usually like rubber at other restaurants. I don't know how they do it, but Malakor's shrimp in their green curry are just wonderful pillows of shrimpiness infused with coconut curry. The Pad Thai here is also amazing. I've tried the coconut soup as well, it is just perfect. Love it. Their raw tuna dish is also a must try. I had the fermented pork ribs, I think this is more of an acquired taste, but I enjoyed them too. Their portion sizes are large....not Cheesecake Factory huge, but I always order the lunch portion and I have enough left over for dinner. You definitely get your money's worth. Beware, it's better to just catch the freebie and ride down to the restaurant to pick up your order. The food delivery apps have the prices much higher than the restaurant's own menu. Oh now I have to go back, my mind can't stop thinking of Malakor! Go you won't regret it.

Yelp
The food was very good. Had some awkward interactions with the staff but all in all they mean well possibly I'm not sure, they're just very overly attentive which isn't a bad thing persay but it was uncomfortable. It was intense lol. I ordered the sticky rice looked towards the kitchen and the waiter quickly said they're making as if that was why I was looking at the kitchen. Lol, that definitely wasn't even on my mind. It was just weird felt like I couldn't even breathe really. I ordered the Phanaeng Curry with duck. The duck is perfect like I couldn't have asked for a better piece of duck tonight and it hit everything I was desiring for my dinner. Nice super crispy skin with tender meat. What they consider spicy is not my spicy I would've opted for a number five lol my meal was delicious though and I felt good afterwards. I also ordered a Thai tea. He sold me when he said they import their instant tea from Thailand so it's very authentic. The only thing though is this place is more if you're wanting to go out and really splurge on dinner. Gratuity was included so I didn't tip. Considering the location I understand, but the price is very expensive to me. I didn't leave disappointed in the food so you know whatever but just know that it's a little expensive than normal. I definitely would eat here again. I think I will just order takeout, because the cooks have nothing to do with the staff outside the kitchen. The sticky rice could be better with more ripe mango and sweeter rice.

Torrey P.

Yelp
Great ambiance, food, and service. Would definitely recommend. I had the fried duck. It looked dry, but was delicious. Also had the spicy tuna tartare which was beautifully prepared, and tasted even better.

Yelp
The ONLY Thai place I go to in Miami. I've been here numerous times and it has never disappointed. Seriously, no one gets how spicy I like my food other than the folks at malakor. I ordered take out the other day and the pad kee mao noodles nearly made me cry from the spice (just how I like it. And for those who don't like spice, I ask for a level 5, extra spicy so order accordingly). Anyway, they really understood the assignment

L V.

Yelp
Tried over 12 menu items and the food was near averag, from the Kuar Kling, Ahi Tuna Laab, Pad Thai, Pad See Eew, Pad Kee Mao, deserts and more. Worth a try if you're in the area for Thai Cuisine but don't be surprised if the food is dry and over seasoned. The service was great and very accommodating.

Yelp
Happy to report that I caved & ordered my dinner from Malakor last night & our love affair is reignited! Food (& portions) were back to what I have come to love & expect! Hooray for Malakor!

Yelp
One of the best pad thai's I've had. It wasn't dry like most places and good quantity as well. I did say medium spicy and it wasn't spicy at all though. The spring rolls weren't my favorite. Service was fast. Definitely on the pricey side so won't be my go to. If you're looking for good Thai food check this place out.

Yelp
I've only been to this restaurant twice so far but I LOVE it! Atmosphere: The decor is meant to make you feel like you're sitting in a restaurant in Thailand. There are baskets hanging from the ceiling, paintings on the wall and spices lining the kitchen area. The tables are small, however they can accommodate a couple large groups of 5-6 people. Food: This iced tea, amazing! Teriyaki chicken, amazing! Chicken yakitori, amazing! Spicy edamame, amazing! Vegan wontons, amazing! Basically everything I've had so far has been packed with unique flavors, seemed to be on the healthier side, and absolutely amazing! Look at the pictures! Service: One server seemed like he was learning and was a bit slow, didn't check in on my table often, and took a while to bring any items requested. On the other hand I did have a server who was on point with his service and always was attentive.

Yelp
This took at least two weeks of planning. By that, I mean that it took at least two weeks of planning to find a time that worked with everyone. Admittedly I think I was the complicated one, but oh well. It all worked out in the end. A girlfriend's husband made a reservation for five people. I definitely suggest you do this if your group is say more than two. The restaurant itself is tiny. There are maybe five or six tables maximum. Well, that's assuming you don't count the outside tables. The interior is cozy. The decorations on the ceiling are interesting to look at. I was reminded of Mexican piñatas. Anyway, the staff is pleasant, willing to make recommendations, and authentically from Thailand. Our waiter was quite welcoming. Our table started off with drinks and then we opted to share dishes family style. We ordered eight dishes. Let's see if I remember them all. We ordered: 1) Dumplings: Steamed. I think these were pork. Good bites of happiness. 2) Sai Aur: This is a sausage dish. Typically not my preferred meat, but the seasonings were delectable. Worthy of licking your fingers. 3) Pork rib: Small tidbits of crunch. Not bad at all. 4) Lamb Kai: A very generous salad. The only thing ordered that I didn't try admittedly. It went quickly. 5) Kaur Kling: This is a pork and rice dish if memory serves me correctly. Heavy portion. 6) Pad Mee Mao (a.k.a drunken noodles): It was good, but it lacked spice and I ordered level 3. Asked for the spice rack as a result. 7) Pad Mee Ko-Rad: Accompanying meat was shrimp. Easily my preferred dish of the night. Well, aside from the drunken noodles. 8) Fried rice: This was salty and with fish. Pass. At least for me. It was a bit too much. All that said, I'm quite pleased with Malakor Thai Isaan. I'm looking forward to going back and trying more goodies. That said, there's plenty to try as this is Northern Thai cuisine and that's not something that's everywhere in Miami. Just saying. In the meantime, leaving you with this useless fact. Apparently the namesake of this restaurant is a papaya. Malakor means papaya in Thai. Who knew?

Yelp
My daughter and I were craving Asian food while strolling in Coral Gables and came to this gem. We were greeted immediately and got seated. My daughter ordered sushi and I ordered the cashew nuts sauce with tofu and brown rice. It was delicious and very flavorful even the brown rice it had like a coconut taste to it. I would definitely recommend this place to someone who is vegan. Looking forward to coming back. The decor, the staff and the food just made the experience excellent for me!

Yelp
"Malakor" means papaya and "Isaan" is the northeastern (and largest) region of Thailand. This region actually gets cold during the season unlike in Bangkok. The name Malakor Thai Isaan signals northern style Thai food, which is a little different than most Thai restaurants in SoFlo. My favorite dish of the night was the Pad Mee Ko-rad. I had no idea what it was, but I saw on the menu pic that it was a noodle dish and it turned out to be similar in texture to Pad Thai. However, this tasted different than Pad Thai, but with the same type of noodles. Delish! It was also a very generous portion. Other notable items were the Sai Aur (or Chiang Mai Sausage), Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles), Kuar Kling, and Salty Fish Fried Rice among others. The Salty Fried Fish was salty as expected, but much too salty in the end. Don't be surprised if you have a hard time ordering here with all of the unique and unfamiliar items to choose from. I'd suggest ordering the pictured items which seem to be the featured ones and also more northern Thai-ish ones Malakor offers seven levels of spiciness. If you love spicy, then level three should be enough. Also, the server can bring extra spice on the side if you need more. Therefore, starting with low spiciness is a good idea. Coming here with a group of four is also a good idea in order to try many dishes, but no larger than that since this place is fairly small. Service is very friendly here. Ownership is authentically Thai.
