On a Saturday night when our friend said let’s go Malaysia. So we found this place and apparently the Nasi lemak is very popular. They also have Chinese stir fry, Malay fried stuff, satay, chicken rice and satay. Is a good combination of malaysia local food and drinks.
Environment 3/5
Given 3 is not because the environment is bad, just the nature of the location, very difficult to get parking but super convenient if you’re travelling here by train, just just opposite of the train station. I arrived at 7+ by the way. And as there’s lots of frying and open fire type of cooking, smoke is everywhere. Basically it is built like Malaysia hawker stalls, with different types of food stall you can buy from and take a seat that’s available in the middle and wait for your food to be ready.
Teh ice (milk tea) 5/5
This is actually out of my expectation, they had the drinks pre-made already just like in Malaysia. But usually Malaysia you can order less sweet, they don’t do it here. I’m not a fan of sweet drinks but this Teh ice is made just right, not too sweet! (I ordered 2 glasses in the end, sshhhhhh 🤫)
Nasi Lemak 2.5/5
This is a miss to be honest, having to wait for more than 20 minutes as he’s running out of rice and fried chicken. It turns out the rice undercooked, I thjnk he’s rushing for it as there’s very long waiting list. The sambal wasn’t up to my expectation as well, little bit too sweet and not spicy enough. Plus point is the friend chicken is good.
Char kuey teow (Chinese style fried rice noodle) 4/5
With the wok smell, I think this is quite a nice dish. Quite close to what I had in Malaysia, just that there’s no cockles here and she replaced that with clam flesh, not even close for that.
Roti kosong and roti planta 5/5
I’m amazed with both the roti, the curry is fantastic as well. If I would find a reason to come again, it is for the roti!
Satay 5/5
The marination is quite spot on, but knowing here is Australia, the meat is a bit too chunky, compared to Malaysia, I would prefer to have smaller size of meat. Very generous with the gravy, remember to dip your satay in. The sweet and spicy gravy gives the meat a little bit more flavour.
Will I come back again? 3/5
Not too sure due to the smoky place and the crowd. Nasi lemak is a disappointment, maybe I should come earlier next time to try out the first batch.
What would I recommend?
- Teh ice
- Satay
- Roti kosong
- Roti planta
