Air Canada Will Sell Poutine For A Week in Dupont Circle | Eater DC

"I learned that Malaysian Kopitiam has reopened in Centreville after the owners, Leslie and Penny Phoon, moved there four years after shutting their Dupont location to focus on catering, with Penny saying limited parking in the District had scared off many customers—an issue she expects will be less problematic in the suburbs." - Gabe Hiatt

Very friendly restaurant. The food is delicious. We ordered the Roti Canai (2 pcs) Flat layered Indian bread served with a small bowl of Malaysian Chicken Curry. Singapore Noodle Stir-fried long thin rice noodles with chicken, egg, carrots, onion, bean sprouts, green & red bell pepper in curry flavor and the Dry Curry Wonton Mee. Wonton noodles topped with chicken curry gravy, U-choy bean sprout. Everyone around us appeared to be enjoying their meals. Fabulous for pace.

This is one of the hidden jumps of nova, it’s a family owned restaurant and the owners are humble and very accommodating and warm and cordial. This is a no nonsense place. Everything in the menu is quite authentic, I will highly recommend Beef Rangdang and chicken curry with roti; for one person meal Nasi Lemak(it comes with a a very appetizing complex tasting anchovy condiment)

First time trying this restaurant. The food was amazing, the portions were generous and the staff friendly and welcoming. We loved how the menu was coded to indicate spice level, vegetarian, and popular. Can’t wait to go back.

We have no idea why we have missed experiencing this wonderful gem. A Halal Malaysian restaurant, probably the only authentic Malaysian restaurant in the area. It is run be a very sweet Malay family, husband wife and their son 10/10 service- so quick that we had barely sat down that the server (the owners son) brought our water and appetizer. The place is spacious, very clean, nicely decorated and the owner is the sweetest. He has such sharp memory that he took everyones order without writing and remembered everything, even the sequence in which we has asked food to be brought out. My first time experiencing authentic Malaysian food and I loved it. Will visit again and again. Tried fried anchovies for the first time in life and was extremely surprised . They were delicious

After years finally got some Malaysian food again. It isn’t easy to find one but this place is a good choice! I love every bite! We had some Rojak, Beef Rendang and Mee Goreng, it was so good. The service was nice and straight to the point. The place can handle small to big groups, everything is indoor and the parking lot is shared.

This is truly a hole in the wall place in the DMV, as it’s tucked away in an unassuming strip mall. Overall, most of the dishes were a hit. We ended up getting the two recommend appetizers, the roti canai and the chicken satay skewers which were both excellent. The roti canai was like a flavor bomb in my mouth - buttery and flaky and soaked up all the delicious curry sauce to form the perfect bite. The chicken satay skewers were succulent, well seasoned, and had excellent grill flavor. My only wish was that it had more meat! My entree, the curry laksa chicken noodle soup with the wide noodles were so addictingly good - I could not stop eating it! The flavor of the broth was both bold and comforting, as the coconut cream hid in the background punctured by notes of mint that perfectly complimented the savory notes of the soup. As a self-proclaimed thick noodle lover, the rice noodles were perfectly thick, chewy, and slippery. Someone else at my table got the beef rendang and I tried a bite of it…unfortunately, the beef was dry and fell short of expectations. Service was fast and food came out in a reasonable time. Our waiter was conversationally friendly and made small talk with us while taking our order. Overall, I really enjoyed the authentic Malaysian food (most of them were hits, the beef rendang was a miss). I would love to come back again to try some of their other dishes!

2025 update: You can ignore my old review. I believe they had an owner change between my last review and now (2025 Sept). The food is amazing now. Every dish tastes great now with the right flavors and the right spices like they acquired one of the best street chefs straight from Malaysia. I've tried Laksa, salty fish fried rice, other noodles. They all hit the spot just right. I'm going to keep trying more dishes. Food is hit or miss. Hits are really good. Salty fish fried rice is very good. Satay is kind of too sweet. Megoreng noodle quite ok. Teh Tarik (hot milk tea) was the bomb! I keep coming back just to drink it. I expected so much out of Hianese chicken dish but it was meh to the point I will not order again. Roti canai isn't what I expected either. The curry that comes with it was wayyy too salty. I saw a lot of tables eating fried red snapper. That's my next dish to try. I'll come again but will be cautious what I order new.

Google
Dined in for dinner; very impressed by the speed and quality of the service. Menu has authentic dishes and a variety of dishes (noodle soup, wok noodles, rice entrees etc) and all our app/entrees came out within 10 minutes max. Chicken satay was extremely tasty to start the meal. Prices are reasonable with regards to the serving size. Overall a very good spot for Malaysian food in the DMV area!

Yelp
When this place was in DC, I stopped by for Hainanese chicken rice. I wasn't too impressed. Then, they moved to Centreville, a lot closer to me, so I followed them there to try the rest of the food. It was mostly a hit or miss. Some dishes were amazing. Some were underwhelming. So, I kind of stopped going there. This was a while back. Recently (2025 Aug), my friends and family started ordering from this place again and started raving about it. Someone said they recently had a change in ownership. I cannot confirm that, but I can confirm the food is super good now. The flavors are spot on, like they just acquired one of the best street chefs straight from Malaysia or something. I've tried the Laksa. It took me right to the hawker centers in Singapore. The me goreng took me straight to Malaysia, and I haven't been there lol. The salty fish fried rice and samba, OMG, is the best. The curry puffs and the hot teh tarik just feel like home. I've tried a lot already, and everything is a hit so far. The place was also renovated not too long ago, so it looks clean and fresh. Don't expect anything fancy, though. It's average. Focus is on the food. Kudos to whatever they are doing to fix their dishes. It's working for me. I'm actually excited to try more dishes on their menu to be surprised by the flavors.

Yelp
My friend and I came in on a Saturday morning/afternoon. It's really hard to get Malaysian food around here so we were hoping to try some authentic Malaysian Chinese food. The rojak is a mix of a fruit salad with savory sauce-- also had a crisp on top and topped with a generous amount of sesame. It was refreshing yet savory--to me, I wasn't sure if the flavors would mix well together, but they did! The mamak mee goreng is a thick noodle with tofu and shrimp--a good amount of tofu but only a couple pieces of shrimp. Nonetheless, it has that carb heavy mouth feel you want in a mee goreng and a savory rich sauce. The beef rendang had a fair amount of beef but the sauce was a very mild curry and aromatic! Good and clean spot with plenty of seating and one of the very few that have Malaysian food. Service was quick but nothing out of the ordinary.

Yelp
I've loved Malaysian food since spending a couple of months in Singapore, and was happy to find myself in Centerville so I could give this highly Yelp-rated place a try. Sadly, my experience didn't meet my expectations. When I walked in, the place seemed a bit strange. An entire swath of tables had been moved aside, and there were large fans set up. If I had to guess, and I could have avoided guessing by asking, I would say the place had a water issue and they were trying to dry things out. However, they were open and serving, so I went in and ordered Chicken Curry Laksa and some Malaysian iced tea. The Chicken Curry Laksa had chunks of fried tofu, several slices of okra, and some pieces of what was probably chicken. All of this was floating in a mildly spicy chicken curry broth that tasted... OK. The iced tea seemed watered down. I remember when this place was featured in Signature Dish. I don't know what happened but I'm not likely to return here anytime soon.

Yelp
Had lunch here en route home from Shenandoah many years ago and finally managed to return today. Boy, I was so impressed and I miss the food here so much. We live in DC so it's pretty far from where we're at but hoping to move closer to here next year onwards. As a Singaporean, the flavors reminded so much of home especially the nonya curry fish fillet and Sambal kang kong. Split 4 mains and 3 desserts amongst 4 of us and we were stuffed to the brim. Every dish was stunning. One can really taste the wok hei for the char Kuay Teow and I'd love to come back in the future for other spicy dishes.

Yelp
I've been here a handful of times and the service is always so friendly, and the food is consistently delicious. This past visit felt like an ideally balanced meal, great across the board. I always get the fupei app--it has the most perfect texture that impresses me every time. The baby oyster omelette was a new try and it was so satisfying. I've never had appetizers get me so excited for the rest of the meal to come lol. Hokkien Mee was like a luxurious lo mein, the sauce wasn't as rich as the description implied, which was good because it didn't feel too heavy, I liked how much veggies it had. The Nasi Lemak was a stunning combo of flavors and textures, it just had me wishing for a whole instead of half boiled egg and some more cucumbers to make more perfect bites.

Yelp
Finally got a chance to come here after a visit to Udvar Hazy since it's a bit far from the city. I went a few times when it was located in DC and it has been yearsssss but I still thought about the dishes. Service was decent, not too many people in the restaurant for a Sunday lunch, but it worked out for us. We came with a big group and ordered family style. Pretty much everything was good. Loved the flat noodles, the skewers, and the salted egg chicken especially. Its Malaysian Chinese food, and I like the Malaysian flavors-- there's quite a few different ones from Chinese food. Will definitely try and make it back out again to try different dishes.

Yelp
My cousin took me here for lunch and it was our first times having Malaysian food! We were craving roti since we had it at an international food market in NYC and wanted to try Malaysian Kopitiam's version to see if it could satisfy that itch. It sure did!! The roti was buttery, flakey, delicate, and paired perfectly with the curry on the side! Delish! We also got the salted egg chicken and the "create your own noodles". I personally love salted egg flavour so I wish it was more prominent, but the crunch was definitely there and the chicken was not dry. The curry noodles were good although I would've liked more spice. The service was super friendly and welcoming I felt like I was being served by a friend! The vibes reminded me of a good local asian family restaurant. I would come back for the roti and I wanted to try their Nasi Lemak too!!

Yelp
We stopped in for lunch and it was SO good. This is definitely a hidden gem (legit hidden, it has been 5 minutes away from us and we never saw it lol). It was a very quiet, nice, and clean location with very quick service. We ordered the Curry Laska Chicken Noodle Soup (S1), Malaysian Curry Chicken (E2), and we got the Steamed Kai Lan (V1). We also ordered the iced coffee and grass jelly drink. It was all SO delicious. We would definitely reorder everything with got. Our absolute favorite was the Steamed Kai Lan. We're excited to go back and we've already planned our next order

Yelp
MUST GO!!! It's only January but I'm sure this will probably be in my top 5's newest and best tried in the dmv area this year. I came with a friend and we split the mamek mee goreng and smoked oolong chicken. The chicken was so juicy and tender, and had an aftertaste of the oolong. The sauce it came with (I have no idea what it was) was incredibly delightful. It also comes with a side of rice. The mamak mee goreng was so flavorful and had a generous amount of proteins--shirmp, chicken, tofu, and another softly fried protein. Definitely recommend both!! I also got the nasi goreng to-go and it's flavorfully fried with a good balance of toppings between proteins and veggies. Sometimes, the rice is harder/crunchier but they got it just rice! There's plenty of seating and such a diverse amount of options. The two servers we had were really nice and funny. The service is quick--both dishes came around the same time in about 10-15 minutes.

Yelp
We went to Malaysian Kopitiam with a party of 10 to celebrate my brother and his wife's birthday. The restaurant is spacious and clean. The decoration was simple with one wall mural of the Malaysian city with restaurants and buildings. We ordered 3 appetizers: A2 Fried Fish Puree Crispy Fupei A4 Crispy Calamari A9 Roti Canai We liked roti canai with yummy chicken curry sauce. The fried fish puree crispy fupei was good. Not too crazy about the calamari. It tasted like frozen food. We ordered these main dishes E2 Malaysian Chicken Curry E11 Beef Rendang E12 Curry Fish Fillet x2 FN1 Char Keuy Teow FN6 Singapore Noodle NE7 Salted Egg Lai Yu Shrimp R1 Hainanese Chicken Rice R4 Malaysian Fried Rice Our favorite dish was Curry Fish Fillet. It was so yummy. We ordered two of them and everyone gobbled it up quickly. The kids liked the Malaysian fried rice. We all enjoyed the Malaysian Chicken Curry. Beef Rendang was good, too. The beef was tender with a tasty sauce. My brother liked the Salted Egg Lai Yu Shrimp but I didn't care for it. This dish was expensive ($28) and the portion was quite small. The Hainanese Chicken was ok. It was mostly bones and not much meat. Singapore noodles and Char Keuy Teow didn't have much taste. The service was excellent. The waiter, Marcus was friendly and funny. We brought our birthday cake. The staff kept the cake in the refrigerator while we ate our meal and served us the cake after dinner. Overall, we had a good experience at this restaurant.

Yelp
I was searching for a good Malaysian restaurant and found this place! I got laksa for myself with yellow egg noodles and my partner got beef chow fun. The portions were generous and prices were fairly reasonable. My laksa was very flavorful. We saw quite a lot of people doing takeout and I might actually do a takeout next time as there were other menu I also wanted to try.

Yelp
First time having Malaysian food and it was SOO good! Got the salted egg chicken, curry laksa, and roti canai. Make sure to get the some egg yolks, chicken and rice into a bite - to get the most flavor. I got the egg noodles with the curry laksa and it paired really well together. The soup comes with chicken, cabbage, okra, amongst other things. The soup was a good balance of spice and coconut milk.

4.2/5 Food decent, definitely had a home style feel to it. Staff was extremely friendly and I really enjoyed our banter.

Yelp
Went to Malaysian Kopitiam over the weekend for dinner, recommended by my Malaysian friend. It's always great idea to listen to locals for restaurant picks, and while it was about 30 minutes away from my place, I was excited for the meal. The restaurant has a cozy, family-run vibe. We started with the Roti Canai, a popular Malaysian dish. It's essentially Indian-style bread served with a side of Malaysian chicken curry. The curry was incredibly flavorful, though I would have preferred it a bit spicier. Still, it was a delicious way to start the meal. For the main course, I went with the Hainanese Chicken Rice, my go-to dish at Malaysian restaurants. The chicken was perfectly steamed--tender and juicy--and paired well with the ginger scallion sauce. The real highlight was the rice, which wasn't just plain white rice but infused with chicken oil, adding an extra layer of flavor. We also ordered Belacan Kang Kong, which is water spinach stir-fried with shrimp paste sauce. This dish tasted exactly like what I've had in Asia--super authentic and packed with flavor. Lastly, we tried the Crispy Squid in Spicy Salt. The squid was cooked crispy on the outside and well-seasoned.

Yelp
This is my first review for Malaysian Kopitiam even though I've dined here or ordered out about 4 previous times. The food is excellent and I don't know of another Malaysian restaurant nearby. I came for lunch around 12:30pm on a Sunday. There were about 4-5 other tables with patrons. Except for once, I've always at least had the Malaysian Curry Chicken. This time, I also had the Beef Rendang. Both were excellent - extremely flavorful with a good, mild spice. The curry chicken has a mild coconut backdrop accentuated with a peppery spice. The beef rendang has slightly smokier chile-forward spice. Both are excellent accompanied by rice to soak up their flavors. The portions seemed on the smaller side, but I still ended up bringing some home since I went through an additional side of rice to savor the sauce. The beef was a bit expensive ($22, vs. the chicken's $16). While it had been simmered long enough to shred easily, I think due to the lean cut of meat, it did have some dryness to it. The raw slivered red onion added a nice contrasting spice to this dish. I would order it again but maybe after trying a few of the other menu options. I would definitely recommend the curry chicken. If you want to explore more of the menu in addition to trying this curry, I'd recommend the roti canai appetizer which comes with a smaller serving and two roti. I wish there were roti available separately as a side. On a previous visit, I've also had the Belacan Eggplant and Okra. It has a really good savoriness to it. I plan on coming back soon to try other dishes, but will probably always have the chicken curry.

Yelp
Loved the food. Everything was seasoned well, had the rught amount of spice. First time trying malaysian food and I can't wait to go back. Tried a variety of dishes with pictures attached and all of them were tasty, no complaints. Nice, clean place. Came in right at opening so was not busy. But plenty of parking spots in the surrounding shopping center.

Yelp
Amazing food here! What a hidden gem in centreville for authentic malaysian food served by the sweetest couple! The char keuy teow was excellent with strong wok hei flavor and large prawns and the ice kachang was delicious even on a cold day. I will definitely be coming back to try other dishes. Service was kind even when we were the last diners of the night. Thanks again for a wonderful meal :)

Yelp
The environment - Clean, simple & not too overwhelming. Delicate designs & didn't have too much going on but it was nice. The food - Everything was tasty. We had the roti canai & the fried fish purée fupei. The roti was perfectly flaky & the other appetizer was crispy without it being too greasy. I had the vegetarian curry laksa which came with lots of veggies & flavorful broth. I also tried my friends' Flounder filet was was good as well. The price - The cost of the food was surprising. I think it's definitely lower than the other places in the area. For the amount of quality food we get, I was happy to see the price of the food was affordable. Would definitely go here again & suggest to friends!

Yelp
Malaysian Kopitiam has been on my list for a long time and I finally found a friend who also had it on top of her list. With very few Malaysian restaurants in the area, we were willing to venture all the way out of Centreville this past Wednesday evening. A9. ROTI CANAI (2 PCS) - 9 A bit expensive but this is a must if you are thinking of splitting an appetizer. The roti was hot and fresh, super fluffy and went well with the chicken curry which was well-seasoned. There's actually chicken pieces in here which were all very tender. We'd recommend. A4. CRISPY CALAMARI - 12 Pretty crispy. I had one of my friend's crispy calamari but nothing to write home about. R2. NASI LEMAK - 15 I expected there to be more toppings or the presentation to be a bit better, but the entree was pretty bare. There was a small bowl of chicken curry (which was pretty good), coconut jasmine rice (super fragrant), and then small dabs of the sambal and anchovy, some peanuts, half a boiled egg and three slices of cucumber. Overall, this felt really empty? The food was very homemade which I enjoyed. FN7. DRY CURRY WONTON MEE - 15 This one was very good. My friend ordered this and I had a few bites of it and really liked it. I love the texture of the wonton noodles mixed with the chicken curry gravy -- so much flavor. The yuchoy and beansprout was a good addition of vegetables. I'd definitely recommend this one as an entree! Overall, the food was good and so was the service. Our server spoke Cantonese, which we cool and I got to practice that a bit. I'd come back again, but it's just so far. Please open another restaurant closer to Arlington :)

Yelp
I almost didn't go here because their sign was missing. Their Char Kway Teow and Curry Laksa took me back to my time in Singapore (yes they're Malaysian, but Singapore had a lot of Malaysian influence). The Smokey wok-hei from the CKT was so addicting. The broth of the Laksa was very satisfying. I want to go back and try more Malaysian street food. Maybe they don't need a sign because this is your sign - to go! :)

Yelp
Malaysian Kopitiam is a cute family-owned and -run Malaysian restaurant is such a gem! The staff are always so welcoming, kind, and friendly, and they seem to treat all their customers with warmth and fondness! The hubs and I came here, pre-pandemic, after the lunch rush, and we ordered the following: Satay Chicken (which came with 4 skewers and came with a kicked-up peanut sauce); the Mamak Mee Goreng (this had a generous amount of juicy plump shrimp, and the stir-fried noodles and veggies were so good; just note that this is a spicy dish!); the Beef Chow Fun (the wide noodles were stir-fried and cooked perfectly, and the beef pieces were tender and so flavorful!); and, the Kopitiam Noodle (which also came with delicious plump shrimp, topped on braised wonton noodles, fish cake, bok choy, and bean sprouts in a brown sauce). Each dishes were made-to-order and came out in this small little wok-like bowl - the use of the spices were on point, and even though the noodle dishes were stir-fried, there was no hint of greasy-ness - just full flavor! Even with the 3 noodle dishes that ordered, each were distinct and had their own flavor profiles - YUM! There are plenty of seats in the restaurant, and they also seem to have many locals doing carry-outs. I'd love to try out the rest of their menu! Plenty of parking in the plaza lot. +tasty noodle dishes! +friendly and kind staff! +plenty of parking in shared plaza lot

Yelp
I come an hour drive just to eat here. Their rendang and roti are phenomenal. I had Malaysian food for the first time in London and ever since I've been here I have been on the hunt to find good rendang. Happy to say its been found. The owners are also such a lovely family. I've been back thrice and use any excuse to drive down again.

Yelp
Came here to try out Malaysian Food in the area since it's a bit limited on options. Lots of parking in the plaza so I don't think you have any issues parking. Malaysian Kopitiam used to reside in DC but it's here in Centerville so I'm happy that it's closer to me. While I can't say that when walking in I was greeted, the staff did acknowledge me and ushered me to seat at a booth. The interior; nothing really fancy but it's minimal except for the wall mural behind the last booth. That was pretty and I am glad I was able to take a picture of it. I opened the menu, pointing to the dish I knew I was already interested in ordering. I'm someone who likes to look at what the place is serving before actually visiting. I don't like having the server come back and forth waiting for me to order if the place is busy; but that's just me. My appetizer to start off with was Satay Chicken. An absolute classic in my opinion. Grilled Chicken with peanut satay sauce and onions & cucumbers, it's a very safe pick if you haven't eaten at a Malaysian restaurant but I do think the Roti Canai is good too. For my entrée I got the Dry Curry Wonton Mee. If you like wonton noodles with curry gravy with cuts of chicken on top, this is the perfect dish for you. I honestly enjoyed eating this dish as it had an element of spice but enough that it doesn't overpower the dish. The chicken was juicy with every bite and with the noodles, it adds more oomph. Vegewtables... well while there's YuChoy and Bean Sprouts and bits of Mint leaves on top I think they were just there for the presentation. I did enjoy eating everything when paired with the noodles but it didn't add anything extra than the curry taste. Would I come back to try more Malaysian Food? Of course! Centerville has so many interesting places to visit. I'm so glad I was able to visit this place finally.

Yelp
Ordered beef rendang to go. Total came to $24 with tax. This is what I got. Should I be salty that quantity wise, the portion was small compared to what I paid? Taste wise it was great. Will probably order again but not that dish lol

Yelp
Dropped in around 11am for a Sunday, missed the lunch specials (which are weekday only). The menus still mention Lunar New Year (they are no longer there). Some of the specials are seasonal, so you'll have to ask. The decor is kind of typical but the interior has a neat mural of Malaysia, but not entirely sure of the context. A small introduction to 100Plus, which is apparently a local drink. Service was good, we were served directly by the owner. Looking over shoulder we see a steady crowd of what look like familiar old timers coming in; a sustained stream of repeat customers is usually a good sign! (Will double check names of items and edit accordingly)

Yelp
Loved my Malaysian Chicken Curry from this place! Parking was free and easy right across the restaurant. The order was placed from their website. It was almost ready upon arriving. Their menu items are halal and vegetarian friendly. The customer service was pleasant and efficient. The store takes Amex. It also offers lunch menu. My curry had enough servings of rice and curry for two meals. It helped me feel full and focused for my long 9hr shift today. I liked the strong aroma and taste of different spices -- particularly the star anise. The gravy was nice and thick. The chicken was tender. I'm looking forward to returning in the future when I am working again in the area.

Yelp
A favorite place of mine to eat, they have the best chicken laksa soup! The chicken satay are the best I've ever had and the roti is mouthwatering good!

Yelp
This is my one of favorite restaurant in the DC area They have great vegetarian soup They make their chicken curry perfect and it's also great as it's not spicy for those who can't handle spice, but love chicken curry .

Yelp
Delicious food! I had the vegetarian curry, it was rich and flavorful. Friendly servers. A chill vibe. If you have a picky toddler you can get them a side of plain noodles. We'll be back

Yelp
First time and probably not the last. Heard about this place and it did not disappoint. Place was clean. Service was friendly and swift. Most importantly, the dishes were delicious. No complaints. Had the Roti, Crispy Squid, and Kopitiam noodles. Can't wait to try other potential yumminess from the menu.

Yelp
I always go back for their Hainanese Chicken Rice. I used to have this dish a lot when I lived in Singapore for 3 years. It is as close to as getting the same here. Love their chicken Satay too The staff is good. Decent sit down restaurant.

Yelp
Came here based on the reviews. Ample seating and very quiet on a Thursday night. We ordered the hainanese chicken, general tso, and the goreng noodles. Overall everything was mediocre and meats were dry. I was excited for the hainanese and the chicken was so dry I had to stop eating. the general tso was good but chicken was also dry again. the noodles were okay... tasted more like a lomein. definitely was not impressed and unsure if I would come back again. the prices were also expensive ...the signs mentioned prices were increased by 3.9%!

Yelp
Food was amazing and flavorful. They also have vegan options. We had the restaurant to ourselves but they were busy with take out orders and I tasted why. Roti canai is a must try appetizer and the curry has chicken in it. Lamb curry was good too. I asked for my spice but it wasn't spicy to me but it was still good. I've had better mango sticky rice but I'll eat it again.

Yelp
I came here for lunch with friends and was excited to try Malaysian cuisine. The menu is very vegetarian friendly with lots of options, which is great. Here is what I tried: - Curry Puffs: this is stuffed with onions and potatoes. This was ok, nothing great. The stuffing was a bit bland for my liking. - Roti Canai: this is delicious. Loved it. - Singapore Noodles: this was ok. I would have liked a bit more flavor and spice to it. - Curry Mix Vegetable: this gravy comes in a big pot with a bit of rice. The gravy tasted the same as the one that came with Roti Canai. Loved it. It's big enough for 2-3 people. Overall, a decent place. Would like to try the other veggie options available here. The service was a bit slow - there was just one guy taking orders and serving. I recommend trying it out for sure.

Yelp
Hard to find good Malaysian food anywhere and this place is the best! Good food, good service, reasonable prices. My go-tos are the Nasi Goreng or any dish with the curried chicken.

Yelp
I enjoyed my meal, but I wouldn't come back. Nothing was terrible, it just wasn't that good and I was underwhelmed. The food quality was there, but the taste for some dishes was lackluster. My favorite dish was the roti canai. The roti was flakey and crispy, yet soft. When paired with the chicken curry, it was amazing! I also liked the fried fish fupei - crispy, but only flavorful with the sweet dipping sauce. The mamak mee goreng was good, but needed another flavor profile (some sweetness, maybe). It felt like it was missing something. Good amount of shrimp, though, and I adore the cute mini wok it was presented in! The oolong chicken was decent, but quite bland without a dipping sauce. Some pieces were on the drier side, but not bad. Service was standard. Ambiance was alright. I do appreciate how large their portions are for the price. Check this place out if you want Malaysian food! I just don't see myself going out of my way to try this place again.

Yelp
We have been to this place couple of times and have picked up food many a times. Loved their fish and Roti Kanhai... Fish is a perfect combination of spicy and sour flavors to make it delicious. The curry which comes with Roti is flavorful. They moved from a prime DC location to a small strip bar in Centreville. The food is excellent and the service is good.

Yelp
Yum!!! I've heard about Malaysian Kopitiam and so I brought my friends to try it out with me. We had 6 dishes and it came out to about $20 each after eating ourselves full. Great value. Now, value is nothing without quality, and quality they had too!!! My favorite was the appetizer - the Roti Canai. It was soo good, crispy, hot Indian-style bread with chicken curry for dipping. The noodle dishes were great and delicious, although the Char Keow Teow and Mamak Mee Goreng didn't taste tooo different aside from the texture and type of noodles they featured. The curry dishes were really great. the beef rendang was sooo good and had such a flavorful sauce that paired well with white rice. The Hainanese chicken rice was my lesser of the favorites as I've had it in Singapore which makes it hard to beat. But overall still ok!! The rice had some nice sauce at the bottom but didn't taste like it was infused with the chicken flavor. Overall great food with very good fast service. I fully recommend trying Malaysian food, and checking this place out!!

Yelp
The food was excellent and pretty affordable too. Our group ordered numerous Malaysian staples- Beef Rendang, Hainanese Chicken Rice, Char Keow Teow, Mamak Mee Goreng, Nasi Lemak, and Roti Canai, all tasted pretty authentic. The Roti was a standout- extremely soft and flaky served with a rich chicken curry. Great value for the price- you'll definitely be full here.

Yelp
So not much change since the last time we were here 4 years ago. Still apparently liked the eggplant and okra dish best and still didn't like the satay (yall I totally forgot we'd been here before and I didn't look at yelp before coming again bc we had hangry kids and just picked something in the parking lot) Service is very good and attentive. Hot teas are so reasonable at 1$ per person and they come in nice modern insulated carafes. All dishes were decent, portions are not huge so I'd order an entree per person and maybe an app or two and you may have some leftovers and will be full. The mango salad was nice, hidden sugar though so be aware. The roti comes with a nice taster of the curry you can order as an entree. Spice levels were medium in my book though obvs that is relative. Think palatable for non native cuisine eaters but will still get a little nose and eye action. We had 4 people so we each had an entree: I got the shrimp soup. It was definitely good. Seafood broth we were told is made in house with shrimp heads. Broth was spicy but the ingredients themselves weren't. About 8 nice sized shrimp. Shared with one daughter and we had enough for a small bowl of noodles to take home but that's bc I don't really like noodles so didn't eat any myself . She ordered a delicious okra and eggplant dish. The sauce was great. Eggplant skin was quite tough but the eggplant meat was creamy and nice. I adore okra so this was my favorite dish(pan fried not breaded at all). Comes with rice. Husband got the traditional rendong beef curry. It was tasty. Portion good for one plus a few extra small pieces to share so everyone gets a taste. Served with rice. No veg:( other daughter got the goreng noodle dish. Again, mostly enough for one but you can let everyone else try a bit. Noodles served over lettuce. Not much protein just like 4 years ago but wasn't too bad either. Flavor good but I'm not a noodle person.

Yelp
A lovely find near our friends' in Centreville, Malaysian Kopitiam is a casual affair with friendly servers and delicious food. The Watt Tan Hor Fun, a mild but flavorful shrimp and Chinese broccoli in egg sauce, was the standout. The smoked Oolong chicken was flavorful and moist, though a little too salty. The Malaysian Lamb Curry was not too hot, and very tender. The crispy calamari were fine, but Melissa loved them, so that's all that mattered. We look forward to our next visit.

Yelp
Order the beef Rendang and I asked for extra beef and they called me which I appreciate that and said they can't do extra beef in the dish but on the side. This is what I received. It's uncooked. Very uncooked.

Yelp
Didn't love today's experience with Malaysian Kopitiam. They significantly downsized the portions for roti canai, and when I called to place my order, I wasn't asked if I'd like the vegetarian or chicken. I received the chicken by default, and by "the chicken," what I mean is that there was a single piece of chicken in the curry. That's it. One piece. $10 for two pieces of (less nicely packaged than in the past) roti and half a container (correct, a half-filled container) of chicken-less sauce. C'mooooooon.

Yelp
Marcus and his family are incredibly hospitable and will make you feel at home! Their fresh, home style cooking will definitely leave you filling full and satisfied! One night my friend and I arrived just after closing, and Marcus was kind enough to let us come inside and order! 10/10 service and 10/10 food, I highly recommend Malaysian Kopitiam!
