The 38 Essential Mexico City Restaurants

"Malcriado is a small specialty coffee shop in the morning and a wine bar by night. Under the direction of Colombian chef Valeria Vázquez, the kitchen turns out a no-fuss lunch and early dinner menu that draws inspiration from Mediterranean flavors with dishes like sardine and parsley salad, chicken Milanese, and short rib ragu. Though indoor seating is limited, Malcriado takes advantage of Condesa’s tradition of sidewalk seating, creating a vibrant social scene outside to complement the food and wine. The options for breakfast at Malcriado are solid as well, though not out of the ordinary for the neighborhood; chilaquiles, shakshuka, or an Italian ham with fig sandwich all kick off the day right." - Natalia de la Rosa, Daniela Galarza

Lovely cafe that opens early. We split the granola and chilaquiles and were so happy with both. I wish they gave a bit more milk for the granola, but other than that it was a perfect start to our day! I also got a dirty chai and it was fantastic. They are so hot or miss in different cafes, I’m often let down. But this one was thick, creamy, and flavorful.

Really nice cafe, with amazing atmosphere, coffee and food. Cortado was the best I’ve had so far. We ordered the French toast and shakshuka, both super tasty.

The food, service and coffee at Malcriado are all incredible, and while I normally don’t complain or mention cost in reviews, I wish a few of their items would be cheaper. The pesto-pollo sandwich is INCREDIBLE. My favorite in the city. However, it’s nearly $300MXN and the size of 1/3 baguette. I hope they will either increase portion sizes or decrease pricing on some items. Overall, would highly recommend - just be prepared to pay!

Stopped here for breakfast and coffee and loved it so much we came back a few days later for afternoon wine, more coffee, and dessert. Really interesting coffee service available from espresso drinks to cafe filtrado and cascara and coffee flower drinks. Worth the stop!!

Service was slow and the food was super meh; my breakfast sandwich was bland and as sad-looking as it gets (see pic). I did like the coffee, though, so there's that. But overall, not somewhere I'd go back or recommend.

Hip and laid back coffee and wine bar. The flavors are well developed on the food with a selection that is enough to cater any taste. For breakfast the mix with lemon zest is tasteful and refreshing. They have an awesome coffee machine that can do a lit more than just good coffee to go with the food. Will come back for sure.
