19 Places to Cool Down With Some Craft Beer in LA, Summer 2023 | Eater LA

"Barely open a year, Malibu Brewing Company operates as a taproom and restaurant. There’s charm in every corner plus killer views with indoor and outdoor seating on a dog-friendly patio. Try one of the 20 beers on tap with wings, nachos, flatbreads, charcuterie boards, or the beer-braised short ribs over mac and cheese." - Farley Elliott

We love stopping here whenever we’re in Malibu! There’s a great variety of drinks and food — and everything we’ve tried has been super tasty. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, which makes it one of our favorite spots. We often come here, and it never disappoints. “Happy days” and giant pretzel are my favourite!

Google
Great place to drop in for a bite and drink! I thoroughly enjoyed sharing a flight as well as a big bowl of ceviche with seasoned chips (and hot sauce was kindly brought as well) I ordered the ahi tuna sandwich with fries.. best ahi I’ve had in awhile.. After a long hike and beach time this hit the spot!

Google
The Santa Fe braised short rib sandwich is amazing, but they changed their menu and it'sno longer on it, which is a major disappointment!! Melts in your mouth! The atmosphere is very nice, loads of seating. The servers were also very pleasant. Try the Canyon rose lager! Definitely would go back!

Outstanding beer and creative food. The fish tacos are awesome. Probably one of my favorite spots for an IPA!

Hit up this spot post hike and it didn't disappoint. I got the brisket gyro and it was fresh, tasty, and plentiful! Highly recommend.

My partner and I stopped here for a quick drink as we were out sightseeing. Our bartender was incredible.( Unfortunately I didn't get her name. She has reddish wavy hair). She was so personable and accommodating. If we are ever back on the west coast, we will definitely stop by. The beer she suggested for me was delicious.(The one with cranberry and rosé). Thank you again for a great experience.

I can't wait to go back! The staff are all great. Their beers are good. Good selection. There are their core brews, but seems like they add a few seasonals in that change. The food is insanely good. The atmosphere is comfortable, cozy. Bonus for their glasses being so cool!

Place are awesome! Been passing by it so many times! My English is not so perfect to describe how awesome it is. Perfect service! Awesome food. I had “Lone Star Burger” which is delicious! I mean: I’m meetlover and I know what I’m talking about! And hey! Usually I’m not siting in restaurant and taking pictures of burger)) I was excited! I was literally dancing in restroom - that’s how happy I was! Owner should increase waiters and cooks salaries! They make your place awesome! Check my pictures

Yelp
Oh! I'm so happy I came across this place. I thought it was great! Only came here for a drink, and visited in town. I definitely would come back here to try the food as well. The service and ambiance were quite nice and fun. Good beers, & staff all around!!

Yelp
We were shopping at Trancas Country Market and decided to get something to eat, Malibu Brewing was highly rated on Yelp so we thought we'd give it a try... and boy oh boy are we glad we did! This is a casual pub, very airy with both indoor and outdoor seating, the indoors is cozy but not cramped, and the outdoor patio is lovely facing the lawn in the market courtyard. There is a bar and table seating, they also offer free WiFi to guests, which was great because the AT&T cellular coverage was nonexistent on this stretch of PCH. The people working here really seem to enjoy it, it felt very friendly, and service was speedy, competent, and sociable. Now for the best part; the food. This place has an amazing menu, and it was very hard to narrow down on something to order. We finally decided to start off with the pretzel bites served with a mustard sauce and warm cheese sauce (think high-end pub cheese), then we got the fish tacos (these come with a choice of fish, we got the COTD which was a white fish, grilled) and the Santa Fe Short rib Sandwich. First off the pretzel bites were INCREDIBLE, fresh, hot, pretzels coated in butter with a slight chili kick, the two sauces were both amazing individually and also when taken together. There were three of us and we almost wished we ordered 2, but in the end I'm glad we didn't because we left STUFFED. For the mains, the short rib sandwich was served with an au jus and had crispy cheese, grilled shallots and onions, and the short rib just melted in your mouth, all this between two pieces of ciabatta bread that was grilled perfectly, it was just divine. The sandwich came with potato chips that seemed almost air fried, they were substantial but not at all oily or greasy, they were amazing, and I recommend using them to finish off the cheese and mustard sauce from the pretzel bites. We got the tacos two ways, one with corn tortillas and the other with flour tortillas with hatch chiles. The cilantro avocado crema is absolutely delicious and compliments the capers and fish beautifully. The tortilla chips were great and the salsa verde that came with them was also delicious. We cleaned our plates and had no room for desert! It was a wonderful lunch with great ambiance, and service, highly recommended!

Wonderful place in every single way. Fantastic location, beautiful setting, open and airy. Food is succulent, savory and incredibly inexpensive. Up front parking, surrounded y darling little shops and the famous Trancas cyn market. We loved it!

Yelp
A lot of things can go wrong when you have a party of 15 (10 adults, 5 kids) coming through an eatery. And a lot of things did when my party of 15 arrived here. We were right on time for our reservations of 630pm. We requested to be seated outdoors. At first peak, I knew I was gonna have a problem: they had no heaters and with the sun on its way down, the cold was eventually gonna creep in. But Hubbers suggested a get a hoodie - I refused at first because it was a bit pricey for my taste ($75, really?!?) He insisted since I needed it (that's what I get for not bringing one.) Fine. I then noticed someone else in my party got one, too. I guess we all assumed they'd have heaters. Ten minutes in, staff told us they had to move our reservation to 7p. For whatever reason, they weren't ready for us - unless we prefer to sit inside (which didn't work out either since they didn't have enough seating inside anyway!) So we continued waiting. Closer to 7p, two adjoining outdoor tables finally opened up so we all took our seats - only to realize we couldn't fit. We got extra chairs and figured it all out. No biggie. Given the time, it's gotten a little dark. This is when I realized they didn't have sufficient outdoor lighting either. I guess I'll have to eat my food in the dark. We finally got our orders in and patiently waited. Apps came through (shared with everyone.) I only got the chance to try the burnt ends which was pretty tasty! It was a great pairing to my brewski! I was in the mood for a burger (no pickles, no cheese), so I went for that. Slowly but surely, everyone's food started trickling in. I expected my server to have mine by the time she came around the third time. She even said, "... and last but not least..." (on my table) as she handed the plate to someone else. I asked her if delivery of food on our table is complete. She confirmed. So I asked her if she sees a burger in front of me. She was apologetic and said she'll check and see where it is. I eventually got it when most of the table peeps were either halfway or about to be done on their meals. THE ORIGINAL MBC SMASHBURGER: Sans pickles and cheese. It's a bit under seasoned for my taste, but taking side bites of the lattice potato chips was salty enough to help fix it. It sorta hit the spot. One of the kids wasn't feeling good way before this meet and thought she could beast through it, but when she couldn't take it anymore, her parents decided to go ahead. The rest of us figured we'd be right behind them since we were all pretty much done, too. The tab was already at our table, so... ... and that's when I learned one of the older kids hadn't gotten his food yet. (His Mom said it's been 50 minutes since they were told it's on its way.) ... WHAT?! I couldn't take it anymore. I had to say something. I spoke to the manager (I believe his name is Frank) and addressed everything. He began with an apology which is a good start. And right after he began, things went crumbling down. He said we asked to move the appointment 30 minutes later. I rebutted by saying that wasn't us, it was his staff since they didn't have our tables ready when we arrived on time. His response to that was that they don't normally accommodate parties as big as ours. I came back with, "Then the reservations shouldn't have been accepted or confirmed." I then told him about the delay in my food and the delay on the kid's food, "... that he still doesn't have despite half our party already gone because they were done." While in discussion, another in my party brought up the tab and told Frank there was an error on the bill, "We were charged 6 burgers but we only ordered 5. And the kid's should just be comp'd since it's taken way too long as it is." And I gotta give it to Frank: he owned up to all of it: QUICKLY. In so many words, he did admit they dropped the ball a lot on us and was willing to rectify it by offering us to come back the next day to make it up somehow. I thanked him for the generosity, but we're a bunch of tourists leaving the next day. Plus this isn't about freebies. I told Frank we're telling him what happened so they can take it as a learning experience and use it as a tool to avoid making the same mistakes in the future. What made this convo even better is the exchange we had was respectful and cordial. FOOD: 3.Wasn't great, but wasn't horrible either. SERVICE: 3. (A generous 3 at that. If they didn't own up to their mistakes, this might just have fallen to a 1, if not a 0.) VALUE: 3.5. Above average, especially around this hood. PARKING: Private lot shared with others. Might be a challenge to find closer parking during peak hours, but if you don't mind a walk, you'll find one at the back-ish area for sure. OVERALL: 3.25. I felt we were heard. That's my biggest take here. Home is nowhere near the area so I'm not sure about the possibilities of a 2nd visit. I'll put that on the "maybe" pile for now.

Yelp
I am still dreaming about this lunch. The fish tacos had the best shrimp I've ever had. The dip trio was AMAZING! Our waiter was so sweet and there were even board games for guests to play with. We sat outside and it was so pretty and lively. I loved this place.

Carrie D.

Yelp
I've been wanting to go here since I heard about this place. And I was not disappointed. I had a churro Porter and my husband had hazelnut stout. I could taste the cinnamon in my churro which took a little getting used to, but then I really enjoyed it. I had grilled shrimp tacos and my husband had a breakfast burrito. They were both excellent. Our server was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was nice. No beach views and a little more restaurant than brewery but a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Yelp
Steve and I got to try Malibu Brewing recently and we liked it pretty well. The beer that we had and enjoyed was the Happy Days Honey Blonde Ale. It's a pleasant and refreshing beer to have as the days steadily increase in sunshine and heat. Flavors to look out for in this blonde are honey, malty and hoppy. The beer is also very smooth and soft in texture upon your tongue making this beer a breeze to drink and easily you could have more than one in a sitting. Very refreshing!

Yelp
This is a follow up to a previous review. I love this restaurant, I love the location, and the owners are open and receptive to listening to what their customers want. They took the time to experiment with healthier oils, and made the change to a non-GMO oil. I was able to have my sweet potato fries after all. Thank you so much for being here and doing what you do and offering healthy options for healthy people!

Yelp
Short on time so I'll make this quick. The food was good. Salmon tacos taste fresh and healthy, maybe lacking in spice and flavor. The sandwich was pretty good, especially with the bbq sauce. The chips with the sandwich were burnt, but the fries that came with the kids chicken tenders were tasty. The best part of the meal were the appetizer sopapillas and the dessert sopapillas. We also had the elote appetizer which was small but delicious. Service was slow but attentive and polite, if that makes any sense. For example the whole lunch took over an hour and a half, but nothing was forgotten or messed up, they were just pretty busy. Ambiance was upscale outdoor/open area dining, even indoors by the bar seemed nice upscale and fresh with an outdoor breeze. Overall everything was pretty good and prices were what would be expected of a Malibu lunch spot.

Yelp
Elote was amazing. Fish tacos were above par. Great patio and friendly service. Highly recommend the cider but then again, I'm a cider girl.

Yelp
Great service, very clean resturant, indoor/outdoor seatings with plenty of tables for big groups or small, they brew their own beer, and great food. Stopped at Malibu Brewing for a quick bite, left happy and full. Tried happy days beer - honey blond ale (lite beer but really good) Cali smash - if you're really hungry get it double if not do single because it's big and filling. Fries is a must order crispy Quesadilla is a must order with or without meat can't go wrong .

Yelp
This is indeed an amazing place. All the other reviewers are correct. Great service and awesome food. I really enjoyed the Mali bougie hard cider. The tie dip and tortilla chips was so well presented great to have three different kinds of sauce to try. I had a great time and would come back here again.

Yelp
great meetup spot for friends to catch up at. it's inside of a beautiful venue. if you're seated outside, there's a view of laid out (fake) grass where families are playing around. i shared a beer flight with a friend and i absolutely loved wild grove and tower 17. i did not like sand & sea. i guess i started liking ipa's this day lol. i expected more from the food as it seems that the burgers had a lot of hype around them, but i've had better. here are my ratings: lone star smash - 6/10: the bacon was so hard, not even crispy, and did not mesh well with the burger. fresh catch tacos - 6/10: the tacos were mid - i've had better at taco trucks. i don't know why my friends chose the corn tortillas, it didn't have a nice collaborative bite to it. mbc nachos - 10/10: the one plate, the star of the show, was this delectable shareable. oh god, i would've ordered that as my entree if i knew how good they were gonna be! if you're gonna order ANYTHING off the menu, let it be this one. 5/5 for vibes and drinks... 3/5 for food, there's better out there.

Yelp
This new brewery is a must try! Their Huge selection of delicious craft beers in beautiful monogramed glasses really hit the spot after our long hike. The servers were able to seat our large group on the beautiful patio in two tables. My salad was also delicious and my friends loved their homemade pretzels, the burritos and other beers and salads.

Yelp
Smaller but upscale venue at a retail complex in Malibu with a shared parking lot. Extensive beer menu with a lot of different options on tap (everything from rosé lager to green chile lager to hazy IPAs and stouts). They offer flights and tasters of all options. Everything I had was tasty, and their glassware is top notch. Their food is fresh and tasty as well (buffalo chicken dip & chicken tenders & fries). Friendly bartenders and good service as well. Overall I definitely recommend checking out this spot if you are in Malibu!

Niaz K.

Yelp
This is an awesome brewery that I take all my guests that visit me in LA! Definitely come early or try to snag a reservation if you want to sit outside since those seats fill up rather quick. The beer is always tasty - I always order the flight and you can create your own! The food is also amazing for a brewery! Favorites being the chicken tender platter with fries and the fresh catch fish tacos! The burger always looks good but I have never tried it before!

Yelp
For my SIX HUNDRETH review... I wanted to share a little piece of "life changing" advice that is rarely ever found in Southern California, let alone the United States. Except for those of you born and raised in New Mexico or those of you who have been to the Land of Enchantment, Raise your hand if you've ever heard of Sopapillas... Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?? Bueller?? IYKYK ;) Yeah that's what I thought. Most people have never heard of Sopapillas, let alone had them, but I assure you... life changing is a pretty accurate statement. (The backstory) What is a Sopapilla you ask? A piece of dough that is fried in oil which puffs up and forms an air pocket. You can cover in honey, powdered sugar or simply stuff with cheese, meat, etc. for a savory option. Pro tip: eat with cold Shredded Tilamook Cheddar cheese with honey drizzled on top. For me, I, am the lucky one... (and apparently so is my wife)... More on this later. My beautiful Mom, who just happened to be born and raised in Taos, New Mexico grew up eating Sopapillas (which is a regional dish of the Southwest, especially in New Mexico, the Land of Enchantment). And as generational knowledge tends to pass on, her mom, my grandmother taught my mom how to make Sopapillas and now I get to reap the benefits. As a kid, and even more so as an adult, my mom would make me Sopapillas usually as a side dish to our already New Mexican dinner (red Chile enchiladas, Green Chile stew, tacos, etc). And then came a long my wife. (Dun, Dun, Duuun) I will always remember the first time my mom made her Sopapillas... it's was like her mouth won the lottery and her stomach wasn't sure on whether to take the lump sum pay out (eat all the sopapillas right then and there) or take monthly sopapillas payments for life (as long as my mom was willing to make them for her). My wife chose the monthly annuity option and to this day...she's still getting her sopapilla fix on a regular schedule. Fast forward to October 23rd 2023 (10.23.23) My wife, my 3 beautiful girls, and myself were in Malibu on a family outing at a local park (see my review of Trancas Canyon Park) and if you happen to see Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones there together... Simply smile for their little stick camera ;) After playing hard at the park, we decided we needed a little snack & adult beverage and we decided to check out Malibu Brewing Company. We were graciously greeted, seated and then given the time to look over our menus. As I scanned the menu... I couldn't believe my eyes... I literally had to do a double take... I LITERALLY had to do a double take... It read... "Life-Changing Sopapillas" I looked at my wife and was like Babe. She said, Yes. I was like Babe.. And she was like Yes?? Then I said, look what they have on the menu!!! She flipped over the menu, she instantly saw what I saw and about fell off her chair. (O.k. Believe what you wanna believe, but I'm telling you, this is how it went down) As our server came by, he looked at us like we had seven heads because we were both smiling ear to ear, practically foaming at the mouth with such anticipation to see if what we were seeing was actually real. Indeed, Sopapillas, out of all places in the world were on a menu in you guessed it... Malibu, California!!! Our lives, changed forever!! So naturally, after we devoured our entire first order of Sopapillas, we ordered a second order of Sopapillas and made them disappear equally as fast. Needless to say, we were in Heaven! We ordered the kids some chicken tenders and fries, we each had an in-house made beer and just relished in the fact that we found our new favorite spot in the Bu. In talking with the server, he shared that a lot of the items on the menu were "Southwest inspired" A few to name a few... -The 505 (New Mexico's Area code) Flatbread -Southwest Taco Salad -maybe you've heard of Sopapillas?? ;) -a Chile Pineapple Brewrita -a Hatch Green Chile Lager And despite these all looking great, the next time I come, besides two, possibly three orders of Sopapillas, I have my eyes on the MBC Smash Burger!! Everything about this place passed the vibe check, I mean c'mon... It's Malibu! The food, the drinks, the ambiance, the service, the decor... Malibu Brewing Company, you are Exceptional. So, the next time Sopapillas casually enter a conversation, now you don't have to look so confused. My advice... come check out what they are all about here in Malibu because these Sopapillas are truly life-changing and would make any New Mexican descendant proud!

Yelp
Bear cocktail .... amazing news to me. I'm a light drinker and feel sleepy easily after drinking. I'm petite and ordered from the kid's menu ( mini corn dog ). It was great...hahaha.

Yelp
Cute little spot on PCH. Great food and beers. Wish they had a more extensive beer list, but still a fun place to grab a drink and some food. Easy lot parking and other cute shops in the plaza.
google avatar

Kaylee M.

Yelp
The food + drinks were great! I had the Mac and cheese and Rosé Lager. Would definitely recommend!
google avatar

Jason H.

Yelp
A great selection and styles of beer - light lagers to stouts, and of course an IPA selection that is a California requirement. I tried 8 different beers and liked the majority of them. There should be something here for every beer drinker. The food was good. We had a salad, wings, burger. We sat at the bar, where the service was quick and friendly. The place got loud inside with the level of music and groups of people drinking. But it wasn't uncomfortable. There is also outdoor patio seating, if you don't want the noise.

Yelp
It just stinks and the salt shakers are going rotten... but the food is amazing!! Def recommend BY ME!! OFC....!

Yelp
great find for lunch after a hike. nice location with outside tables, shade or sun, with view of the santa monica mountains or inside. Service was excellent and helpful. Beer selection very good and all were tasty. At the reco of other yelpers we had the nachos--added short rib--tons of succulent, lean, tender meat (and not much more $). The nachos were huge, excellent with wonderful ingredients all the way through--enough for 3 or 4 to share. Having grown up in New Mexico, I had to try the sopapillas. They were bite sized, with chipotle on them and a honey dipping sauce--interesting to say the least but not like my childhood favorites. Others next to us had the fish tacos--looked awesome with a huge piece of flaky fresh fish in each. we will be back.

Yelp
Decent brewery in Malibu! On the north side of the pacific coast in this very small, quaint, cute shopping area. Great selection and can do flights! Bartender provided great service!
google avatar

Yelp
Would of given it 5 but hostess (Sam) was a bit rude & not accommodating but our server Will was amazing. Food was delicious & yummy beer selection.

Yelp
We are locals who appreciate a dinner place that is not exorbitantly expensive. The MBC is a most welcome addition to our community. The beer is outstanding, and the food is very good. My favorite entrees are the Smash Burger and the All-Day Breakfast Burrito, while my wife loves the fish tacos. Ask for the chef's special salsas if you're getting that. It's house-made and always changing. The outdoor dining is spectacular on a warm day. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Lori W.

Yelp
Great smash burger and tacos, along with their fries. And of course the beer is great. I like that they have tasting sizes, so you can sample their beers. Also, a great patio to enjoy your food and beverage. Thanks!
google avatar

Roberta D.

Yelp
First of all, Ally our server was the highlight of our experience. She was very friendly and on top of things. I loved the Happy Days but my fave was the nitro stout (stargazer). Most of us in the group ordered the smashed burgers with the fried potato chips and loved it. This spot is definitely a nice place to hang out with friends or family after a day at Zuma.

Bob W.

Yelp
The new fall specials are absolutely fantastic! Chef Steven just nailed it! I just had the "Shrimp Po Boy Sliders" and they were incredible! With my favorite serving me, Bridget, it doesn't get any better. Excellent in every way!!
google avatar

Joel C.

Yelp
Took a trip to check out the farmers market and the place was just too packed. So we decided to go get some burgers along the way home. Looking on google I found this place. There was about a 20 min wait to be seated, but there are stores near by to keep you occupied. We each got some burgers. I got the Lone star smash with sweet potato waffle fries. Delicious to say the least. For appetizers we got the pretzel bites. They came with two sauces that were so flavorful. Got a beer too wish I remembered the name.
google avatar

L.Roy S.

Yelp
My fam and I were craving a burger after a very hot hike to Escondido falls and we stumbled upon Malibu Brewing's smash burger. The head chef told us about the whole menu, which sounded great but I had my eyes on the prize...that smash burger tho! The server said it's like an in n out burger on steroids lol! It goes above and beyond an in n out burger. It exceeded my expectations. I can't wait to eat this burger again with more people so we can all talk about how good it is haha! Ooooh and the fries, so crispy and well seasoned. They serve this burger with homemade potato chips, but I highly recommend swapping it out for their heavenly fries. I can't speak to anything else on the menu just yet, but the smash burger is 10/10. I wanna try the fish tacos next time, but let's see if I get anything besides the smash burger. I'll be back!

Yelp
We love the outdoor patio - tables are well spaced and the vibe is pleasant, overlooking the grassy common area. Beers are excellent - some of the best craft brews in Los Angeles area. I have enjoyed a coffee porter and a plum stout here, my current favorite is the Imperial Coconut Porter. Fish tacos and Malibu Grain Bowl are nice. The food highlight here is the Pretzel Bites. A must appetizer for the table. They are tossed with red chile butter but thankfully it is not spicy, just delicious. The two accompanying dips, a creamy whole grain mustard sauce and a cheese sauce are tasty. Excellent service. Reasonable prices. Free parking. (Parking tip: if the lot is full, there is another in the back.)

Yelp
My husband loved the beers he tried here. The spot is tight and seemed full of older locals and college students. We enjoyed our food. They have a special of the day which my husband ordered and the chef came out to serve to him. My son enjoyed his burger.

Yelp
Came here for the first time on Sunday afternoon and ordered the Garlic Goat flatbread, my bf got the Short Rib Sandwich and I got the grilled salmon tacos. He also ordered a Hazy IPA and I got the Rose Lager. Everything was yummy except the the flatbread. It came out dry and not really cheesy, pretty disappointing. The tacos were good but my bf said the fish tasted fishy like it was it's last day, so that wasn't a good sign either. With all this in mind considering the price, it is overpriced and they can do a better job. Besides the food, ambiance was nice. It's by the beach so can't go wrong with that. We sat at the bar easily Although it was crowded. The patio looked nice but we'd have to wait an hr to get seated so hopefully next time we can. Since it's a plaza, parking is fairly easy but it can get packed especially on the weekends.

Yelp
Great place for a flight! Their location near the water and in a small shopping center is perfect. I was so exited to see them finally open after their much anticipated opening. Their beers were fantastic- only complaint was the pretzels. Their pretzels almost tasted like bread. Staff was A+ Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Located in Trancas County Market complex next to Starbucks on highway one you can find a brewery tucked into the shopping complex across from the small grass area! This restaurant use to host a bbq restaurant that came and went quickly so I felt I better experience this place soon! The concept of having a brewery in this area seemed like the perfect thing for a the beach vibe! So on a fall Sunday afternoon with my family, we tried the brewery. Unfortunately we aren't beer drinkers so not sure how the beers are. They do have quiet a number of beers on tap. They also have wines! We tried some of their sandwiches! We had a hamburger for twenty dollars and a fried chicken sandwich for 16 dollars. The hamburger had basic American cheese, a tad bit of avocados, pickles, tomatoes and sine type of Mayo. The hamburger was a double patty. Hamburger was a decent size. Hamburger came with chips. Fries are an extra three dollars. Ok how was the taste? It was ok, but not great. Hamburger was thin and well done. The heirloom tomato was not cut properly: the tomato core was still intact: a pity as the concept of an heirloom tomatoes on sandwich sounded great. As for cheese, for 20 dollars, I want a better cheese than American. Lastly my chips were soggy. The fried chicken looked a lot better: thick pieces of chicken with coleslaw. If I came back, I would definitely try something different than a hamburger! I expected more for a brewery. The menu did have a lot of other items. The menu consisted of shareables, salads and desserts. The nachos looked good. Entrees were in the 20s. The restaurant has a small indoor space with tables and seating at bar. There is also a nice patio which is great for people watching! As for parking: the small shopping complex has parking in front and in back behind grocery store. Parking limited to two hours. You can also park and walk from highway one. In summary, my experience was ok but not great!

Yelp
Great service and good food. I like their take on the Moscow Mule, it was very refreshing.

Yelp
Came here to grab beers on the weekend and I think I have found my favorite brewery in the area. Unlike other breweries, the inside of the placehas a very elevated look to it. They have a great selection of beer and I appreciate the fact that they put the colors of the beer on the menu! It was a thoughtful gesture that I really liked. Great staff and welcoming which made the experience more enjoyable. I will for sure be back to try some of the food items on the menu. P.S. This place is kid/dog friendly!!

Yelp
I had a wonderful time at Malibu Brewing. Our waitress was awesome! Such great service she was so nice. The ambiance is so nice. You can sit outside by these other stores and patch of green grass. it's so lovely!! Nicely shaded under the umbrellas too. The beers are good. Lots of great options. The hard seltzer is a bit weak though, no flavor. The fries were good but the highlight of this place (aside from the beers obviously) are the sauces! All the sauces are homemade and so uniquely delicious. The garlic aioli is chefs kiss. The ranch! You can taste the buttermilk it's so creamy. The chipotle aioli has a bit of mustard and horseradish, wow. Great experience all around! I will happily come back!

Yelp
My husband and I came here on 4th July with a last-minute reservation. The place was pretty busy, with every table full. We came about 25 mins earlier than our reservation and were told that the table wasn't ready yet, so we looked around the nearby stores and came back when our table was ready, which wasn't too long after we first arrived. The ambiance here is casual and looks like a place you'd imagine when you think of a brewery. There is ample outdoor seating outside. We shared the pretzel bites to start, which came with two different dipping sauces. One sauce was cheesy and the other was like a ranch sauce. It's hard to go wrong with pretzel bites and dip. For mains, my husband had the fish tacos and I had the garlic goat flatbread. The garlic goat flatbread had a lot of pieces of crispy garlic on them, goat cheese, and mushrooms. It was very garlicky and the flavors were good, but I didn't like the texture of the flatbread. My husband's fish tacos were good. If I had to go back, I would choose to order the fish tacos over the flatbread. Service was friendly and efficient. If you really like beer and are in Malibu, it's worth coming here, but I would not recommend this place based on the food.

Yelp
Very disappointed. I git the Smashburger, basket of sweet potatoe waffle fries, & wings. I asked for ranch & blue cheese for the wings but only got blue cheese. I asked for ketchup for the fries & got none. The "basket" of waffle fries consisted of 8 waffle fries. The price $9. The 3 items above were $50 & it was too little for too much. No attention to customer requests or satisfaction. I guess when you don't have many choices in Malibu, it doesn't matter but I won't be going back.

Yelp
Place are awesome! Been passing by it so many times! My English is not so perfect to describe how awesome it is. Perfect service! Awesome food. I had "Lone Star Burger" which is delicious! I mean: I'm meetlover and I know what I'm talking about! And hey! Usually I'm not siting in restaurant and taking pictures of burger)) I was excited! I was literally dancing in restroom - that's how happy I was! Owner should increase waiters and cooks salaries! They make your place awesome! Check my pictures

Yelp
As much as I was hoping it to be so, this fall short of a gastropub. I've eaten there a few times and I really want to love this place for the pleasant outdoor patio, dog friendly attitude, great location by the lawn, but I just can't get there with a few exceptions: The smashburger, the quesadilla and their coated thick fries are good, especially with the dipping sauces. Unfortunately I can't eat like my 15 year old son, so hard to make this a regular haunt for me. I have tried the steak - mine was bland and grizzly. Tried the braised short ribs with mac and cheese and crispy grilled onions, this was just one big fat bomb, but without a lot of flavor or acid to offset all that heaviness. The grilled shrimp soft tacos, other than the flavor of salt, was another textural and flavor disappointment. The coleslaw was a missed opportunity to add some tang. Sometimes the staff is super friendly and the service is great, but mostly a place you want to go if you have plenty of time and aren't really expecting much. I've been there in both peak and off peak times and it seems to be server specific and have far less to do with how crowded they are. I know other people really like the place, and I do hope they succeed. I will try a few more times, hopefully they'll rotate some new items onto the menu, and hope to make it a more regular haunt, as it's so convenient.

Yelp
They told me that they make lemon pepper dry rub wings... clearly there is nothing on these wings but the manager lied to me insisting that they Are "prepped" with lemon pepper. They have no taste of any seasoning at all. Then he tried to gaslight me by bringing lemon pepper seasoning to tell me that this was used. Why not just admit that it was made wrong and remake them.?

Yelp
Wow wow wow!! We casually stumbled upon this place when stopping to take a break from our drive. The beer and drink selection has something for everyone! I also truly appreciated the shared plates which were prepared with love. It was so refreshing to have veggie options served with the dip and the pita was excellent too! They also offer two different charcuterie boards and I'm pretty sure our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. The outdoor dining area was lovely (in fact we spotted a member from *NSYNC who was casually enjoying the day with his family. Lastly the server was incredibly kind and helpful in making recommendations.

Yelp
Have to post again as our second time at Malibu Brewing was just as good as our first. I promise these reviews are genuine and not fake. We went for lunch this time and it was a lot emptier than it was at dinner the last time we had come. The service was still incredible. The chef was actually the one who took us to our table and told us about the menu. I could tell how much pride he took in his food and his menu. It all made sense to me then why the food is so amazing. I tried the flatbread this time and it was really good! It was a bit spicy, so just be warned of that. My husband got the fresh catch tacos again as this was the reason for coming back again. He said they were very good again! We also tried the hush puppies special (thanks to the chef telling us about them!) They were very tasty! On the way out, the workers made sure to say thank you for stopping in. It is such a warm feeling coming here. We love it here!

Yelp
Really nice atmosphere, food was really good, on the pricy side but it's a brewing. Very clean.
