"Styled after a vintage ice cream parlor — and decorated with plenty of rubber ducks — Mallard Ice Cream is a dessert-lover’s destination. The shop makes its ice cream from scratch, five gallons at a time, and uses locally sourced ingredients when possible. The flavors include mainstays like chocolate, peppermint, and cookies and cream, plus rotating options like sour cream apple pie, drunk cherry, and triple nut crunch." - Megan Hill, Jessamyn Tuttle

Google
Visited today and tried their cookie and cream and a scoop of cheese cake ice cream. Both were absolutely delicious—creamy, rich, and packed with generous chunks of cookies. The cafe itself was a fantastic experience. The atmosphere was inviting, with a cozy and vibrant environment that made it a perfect spot to enjoy a treat. Highly recommend this place for anyone craving a great ice cream and a wonderful ambiance!!

Google
Some of the best ice cream in Whatcom County :) They are always getting in new unique flavors, though I always only get their Mint Oreo. It’s pricey for the portions imo, but it’s worth it once in a while

Google
Was charged $6.70 for a single scoop of ice cream that was smaller than a kiddie scoop used to be. I felt conned, big-time. When I questioned the server about it, she was really nice & said she agreed with me & felt bad about charging so much for so little but that the new manager was making them do this.

Google
Drawn here due to the great reviews and unique flavours! Unfortunately some of the flavours I wanted to try were sold out! However I got to try bourbon black pepper (my favourite), pecan cheesecake (least favourite), cold brew, raspberry mint tea, and red currant. I really like that they have sinks available outside of the washroom and water for drinking. I wish they had more tables that were smaller.

Google
If you love interesting flavors of ice cream. This is a must stop. The flavors were amazing and the texture perfect.

Google
Seems a fun place to hang out to enjoy Ice cream. They have many varieties and we loved cookie dough and cardamom flavor icecreams. Chocolate was not that great. They have puzzles and board games to little fun. Plenty of seating. Paid parking.

Google
We were in town for a wedding and decided to try some local ice cream. This place was fantastic! Every other town seems to have their own local favorite, and I have been to a few, but this one stands out!! Friendly and helpful staff, a fun vibe, and the standout was delicious and interesting ice cream flavors, plus the option of half-scoops for us ‘indecisives’!! I just wish I had one of these where I live. Big props to the staff for keeping the lights on so late during the summer!

Google
Its very popular especially stay kids so expect to wait in line and it'll be quite loud. Interesting and hmoque flavors I recommend the Espresso and raspberry mint tea. The raspberry mint tea was so tart and had a strong recognizable tea flavour.

Yelp
We came here in the afternoon and found downtown Bellingham very pleseant. That said, it is only pay parking at meters near here and we were able to secure two spots right out front. They had their garage type doors all the way up so it was like being outside when you were inside where there was tons of seating and a low height sink for kids to wash their hands with. There was only one party ahead of us in line and when it was out turn, they were good about letting us sample. Their flavor selection was great and I tried the Mint Oreo and Tony's Cold Brew. I went with the Mint Oreo, which was not green and had large chunks of Oreo, so perfect! The price includes a cone and the bathroom was fairly clean.

Yelp
I may have been a little slow to relate the rubber ducky theme with the name Mallard. The lines are often long here which gives you some time to enjoy the little ducks and find some favorites. You also have a chance to look over the list of current flavors and decide what to sample and what to eat! I like their "indecision" options for 2 or 3 half scoops. Can't decide on which two? Don't worry they have that covered too. The lines do move fairly quick. You can sample a flavor first if you like (with metal spoons!) and then make your order. I did the rum raisin and the sour cream gingerbread. Not a lot of flavor with the rum raisin, but enjoyed the gingerbread.

Casey S.

Yelp
This is the best ice cream shop! The line was long for a reason, the people working were friendly and helpful, the shop was adorably decorated with all different rubber ducks, awesome signs and the ice cream was incredible! We will absolutely be back and taking other people with us!

Joshua L.

Yelp
Really cool spot. Great Ice cream, Check. Rotating Flavors, Check. Board games, Check. Definitely a fun spot to hit during the summer; they roll up the store front so it feels super open. Perfect for a sunny day. Their flavors are super fun too; anything from classics like strawberry or chocolate up to more unusual flavors like Korean Hotteok. They also have a really fun competition amongst students to submit their own flavors and designs.

Ciara L.

Yelp
If you come here it's probably more for the vibes. Was craving something at 9pm and wanted to continue my girl talk but surrounded by people so came here. Lord of people were here and it made it a fun light place. Ice cream was scramallamalumpcious but didn't taste $6 good. But to pay $6 and be in a fun room was worth it for the 1

Yelp
It really is hard not to love this place! While the political affiliation is certainly apparent, their ice cream appeals, to everyone! They have an amazing number of flavors the range from familiar to " how did they come up with that?", but the common theme is that all of them are delicious. We get up there every year or so and the rotation is quite amazing. The Incorporation of new flavors, stuff that is popular at the time. (i.e ghost pepper) and different takes on classic flavors is pretty epic! The service is always quick. The line is generally back near the door, there's a nice seating area inside as well as some outside. It's also the perfect spot to grab and go as the downtown area is ever interesting! If you haven't been here before, it's a must check out if you are up in the area!

Dana S.

Yelp
I had to try this place while in town because I'm a big fan of unique ice cream flavours, which this place seems to specialize in! I got a half scoop of two of their rotating flavours, Angostura Bitters and Hot Marges (tequila, lime, ghost pepper). Loved both, but the Hot Marges really stood out - the ghost pepper featured prominently which made it a really exciting tasting experience. I also sampled the Whiskey Raisin and Cardamom flavours which were excellent too. The ice cream doesn't just come in fun flavours, it's also really well-made ice cream, smooth and creamy. The shop is also really inviting. Everything is colourful and the duck theme is very cute. There's plenty of comfortable seating if you'd like to hang around while you enjoy your ice cream.

Marcy F.

Yelp
Good service and always a must stop when we are in Bellingham. I love the flavors they come up with.

Rikhia C.

Yelp
A fun, easy-going ice cream spot in the heart of Bellingham. With 5 dairy free ice creams and 10 dairy filled options, this place has great variety! Try the Assam Tea, Shank, or Hot Cookie for a satisfying taste profile.

Shane M.

Yelp
This place is in a cute neighborhood. It fits right in. They make everything themselves and they have a rotating menu. They make some unique profiles that keep a consumer on their feet. Best coffee ice cream ever IMO. The Mexican chocolate is great with a hint of cayenne. It's not cheap, but why should it be? Homemade ice cream can't be cheap. The line can be annoying in the "I want it now drive through" culture. This isn't that. Lots of space, games to play. Music. You can hang out here, eat ice cream and have a great time.

Sarah S.

Yelp
We popped into Mallards on Friday night. It was so good to be back! We tried some samples and ended up ordering a bowl of their Vanilla Black Pepper ice cream as well as their pumpkin cheesecake. A scoop of each for a short but sweet visit. We love their rotation of flavors! Sorry we missed out on getting photos of the ice cream we had, but we are digging the mixture of their rubber ducks and their logo that they have on display!

Abigaíl S.

Yelp
A quick treat of icecream here has never done me wrong. Family friendly and fast service.

Prag R.

Yelp
Cute ice cream place with lots of board games and place to grab ice cream with friends, kids and hanging out as a group. I got the ice cream flight and they tasted so so good! Mango, Vanilla, Dark Chocolate and Cookie Dough. All of them tasted great, my fav was definitely the Mango, don't miss if you love Mango

Kristen K.

Yelp
Ice cream is good. They have many extravagant flavors: ranch, corn, etc. they change on a daily basis. The only downfall of this place is wooden spoons. Otherwise they have games in the seating area for a fun game night with a family. The service is quick and everyone was friendly.

Rose G.

Yelp
Friendly efficient staff, very professional. The ice cream was excellent. Good amount of nuts and chocolate compared to other makers.

Jena D.

Yelp
Ice cream was good and we loved all the games and seating they had but the line was so long. I don't know if we would go back on a day with a really long line.

Devon S.

Yelp
Went with my family the other night. Maybe it was an off night but the woman at the counter was very rude and standoffish. I was bummed because I've heard wonderful things! Hopefully it was just a bad night! :/

Abby F.

Yelp
Ice cream was great, perfect for a warm day! Best to sit inside, but can get warm inside

Mike V.

Yelp
If you're craving ice cream, this is Bellingham's favorite place to go! They have a rotating menu of ice cream with some favorite flavors and some unusual but tasty flavors. Today I went with the indecision and chose olive oil and breakfast cereal. Although currently samples aren't available, the worker gave an excellent description of the flavors. The olive oil has a rich flavor and it finishes with the olive oil flavor. The breakfast cereal flavor is based on the generic brand of fruity pebbles cereal. Both flavors were delicious. The olive oil is an acquired taste and the breakfast cereal took me back to my childhood. There are some non-dairy options if you don't consume dairy. You can also enjoy coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Currently masks are still required and there are no samples. If you're downtown stop by Mallards.

Chris J.

Yelp
Lots of really fun, inventive, good flavors here to play with. Service is nice, spot has lots of seating open to the bustling street outside. I think the base ice cream could use a little work but there's definitely some banger flavors in here. I can see why it's a favorite in Bellingham. For a small city this place has no shortage of heart and fun spots.

Nolan L.

Yelp
Tired of always getting the same ice cream flavors? Mallard's has your back. These people are flavor geniuses! Seriously, who even thinks up these flavor masterpieces? Bourbon Black Pepper, Nerds, Cold Brew Coffee, Fireball, Root Beer, and so many more. Their ever changing menu keep me coming back and excited to try something new. They have covered outside seating, as well as a ton of inside seating and board games incase you wanna chill and play games while you eat your ice cream. Also while you're their check out their massive rubber ducky collection. Crazy ice cream flavors, games, rubber duckies; its no surprise Mallard's is a Bellingham favorite.

Tamar M.

Yelp
Not sure how this place gets such great reviews. Ice cream is meh, flavors were meh, portions are incredibly small for the high price. Service was nice.

Linda R.

Yelp
The line was out the door so of course we had to try it. The ice cream is delicious. It is definitely an ice cream consistency with a little more air vs gelato. Great original flavors along with some classics.

Judy A.

Yelp
My family loves coming here for dessert! Variety of flavors! Personally not always fond of the flavors but my kids are. Cookies n cream is by far my favorite! They serve coffee too. Service is always pleasant!

Mary D.

Yelp
Fun selection of ice cream. I choose non dairy sorbet and very pleased. Workers are all very friendly. We went on a Friday evening , and the line was out the door but went quick.

Jacob M.

Yelp
Mallards Ice Cream is amazing, we always love the rotating flavors they have to offer. The ice cream is always flavorful. It is a must place to go if visiting because you'll fall in love! The employees are great and friendly, always welcoming. Mallards is definitely the place to go if you are in need of ice cream. Mallard, if you are reading this please bring back "cereal milk" it was to die for!

Khadij A.

Yelp
An ice cream shop tucked away in downtown Bellingham, they have rotating flavors which taste great! I got the Oreo ice cream in a kids size waffle cone and it was great. Prices were pretty reasonable too and I love that they allowed me to get a kids size. Would return if in the area!

Yolanda L.

Yelp
@mallardicecream ft coconut chocolate chunk with almonds and cardamom Recently went down to Bellingham for hikes and came across this place. They had quite a few interesting flavours. I liked cardamom out of the two flavours I tried, as I love chai and cardamom could be a spice used in chai. It had a good kick to it!

Clarisse L.

Yelp
I LOVE Mallard's so much!! This was my first time visiting Bellingham and a friend recommended this place to me. I ordered the Strawberry Ice which was so refreshing and delicious for the hot weather. If I ever come back to Bellingham, I would definitely come visit again.

Geoff J.

Yelp
While their ice cream has always been a cut above, it seems that their serving size has gone the way of "volume shrinkage" like many other food products. My one-scoop of ice cream in a waffle cone didn't even rise above the top of the cone. Seems like a mediocre value for $6 + a $1 tip.

C G.

Yelp
Let me tell you. Mallard is the tourist of all tourist spots in Bellingham WA. It's cute! It's got ducks (mallards) and funky flavors! BUT, in my current quest to find the BEST milkshake in Bellingham, Mallards BLEW OUT OF WATER THROUGH DISAPPOINTMENT. Yogurt is thicker than that prepared milkshake. I do feel bad for the person who was serving us, they claimed this would be the best one. Take a look at the image - it speaks for itself. Mallards stays winning - by losing.

Lulu K.

Yelp
NERDS ice cream. So good. Coconut with chocolate chunks and almonds was alright. But the pineapple nerds is one of a kind. I would go just for that.

Christi H.

Yelp
The Ice cream was delicious and I loved that you could do a half scoop to try more unique and original flavors! I got Cardamom and Cinnamon 1/2 and a smoky tea for the other half-terrific combo!!

James A.

Yelp
Fun post-soccer treat. Unique flavors. Happy place with yummy treats. Highly recommend.

Jr J.

Yelp
Fun flavors very chill and a welcoming atmosphere, will definitely be back, with friends

Nathalie B.

Yelp
Such unique flavors! Bring back the whiskey peanut butter, please! Pumpkin is also delish -- it's great paired with plain vanilla. Tasty vegan selection too! They have a flavor called NERDS from the candy. If you're a spice lover, there's a chocolate with chili pepper flavor you'll enjoy. Service is pretty good, although once I ordered a scoop in a sugar cone and the server said she can't scoop that flavor into a sugar cone because it was too hard. And, here's me, who worked at Ben & Jerry's for YEARS. And I'm thinking to myself -- you can put any flavor in any cone -- you just have to have better scooping skills. LOL Every once in a while I'll get a scoop that tastes kinda stale. Also: beware they don't have cake cones. Otherwise, this place is an awesome scoop shop with a fun rubber duck collection and exceptionally unique and very tasty flavors. A superb ice cream store for folks of all ages.

Chris D.

Yelp
I got vanilla. I don't know why people trash-talk vanilla. It's a complex flavor. It only looks simple. ANYWAY. The vanilla is a lovely blend, as promised. I ate all of the two scoops and regretted nothing, BUT make them show you a scoop first: I ordered two scoops, and it was closer to a pint than not.

Samuel G.

Yelp
It is to pricy and the flavors are average. The ice cream tasted like chalk. The oly good thing about it was that the cookies a cream was alright.

Tara L.

Yelp
A great destination for small town hand-crafted treats, Mallard Ice Cream emanates whimsical, bold and fun flavors. The environment reminds me of going to a candy store and the staff oozes the same exuberant energy. We've been here a few times, and if we lived in the area, this would definitely be a regular spot! Their mint oreo is my favorite, with a strong mint flavor. If you're not as big of fan of mint, then I wouldn't recommend getting this. My husband digs their coconut flake and the texture of the coconut is mixed in just right with the cream base. Their strawberry and lavender flavors are also done extremely well. In general, the consistency of the ice cream is full and dense. If you prefer airy ice cream, then this place is not for you. I love how they have just enough flavors for the traditionalist and the adventurous. Most recently, I saw they had a Nerds candy flavor. If it's still on the menu during our next visit, I'll definitely try it out. Pricing is fair at $3 for a full single scoop. They also offer half scoops if you have a smaller appetite. I typically get my ice cream in a cup for ease and minimal messes, but they do have a waffle cone that is popular. They have now re-opened their interior space to accommodate the queue. 2 registers, and cash only. Masks are required and they provide plenty at the entrance. Hand sanitizer galore. Easy metered parking. Overall, one of our favorite WA ice cream brands and a definite "treat" whenever we're in town. Highly recommend coming here and afterwards perusing their eclectic mix of music shops!

Shelly W.

Yelp
I love, love, love their ice cream! The fact that on occasion they have unique flavors, such as Rose and Lavender, make my taste buds dance with anticipation!!!! AND, for those who can't decide between two flavors, yet cannot eat two full scoops, there's a "split scoop," two smaller scoops rather than one large. Now THATS customer service! Mallards has a welcoming fireplace along with board games and cards for those who want to sit in front of a cozy fire and enjoy a game or two. AND, last but certainly not least, if you're anything like me, there was at least one more flavor that you wanted to try, so on your way out, remember to grab a pint to-go before heading home. Mallards is definitely one of my family's favorite ice cream shops!

G U.

Yelp
Sorry Mallard Ice Cream. I'm you two stars only because my son loves your ice cream and the guy behind the counter was so cheerful and knowledgeable about the flavors. I've never been impressed with your product and even less so on this visit. Our 2 scoops each looked nothing like the other review pics- not tall and round, just shoved in the cone. My pic was taken as soon as we stepped out the door. Covid rule enforced- no licking your scoops inside the shop. My ice cream had little taste. It was more like frozen cream. I had Turmeric (what was I thinking!) and Chocolate Chip. It seemed like the chocolate chips were grinned down to gritty specks. I tried hard to find the taste but I just couldn't. The guy behind the counter- He could tell you every ingredient in every flavor. He was awesome. I guess, maybe I didn't listen well when he described the Turmeric. He had such a great personality and he's a good salesman. Mallard's- I might see you next time my son is back in town but I'm making him pick up the bill.

Angie N.

Yelp
This ice cream is bomb. There was a bit of a line to order but so can only assume it's because of its popularity. The duck collection is cool

Bradley C.

Yelp
There is no better ice cream anywhere. Their unique variety of flavors homemade goodness can't be beat

Patricia C.

Yelp
Hmmm I may be biased I love ice cream to start with! Mallards has the best! You can taste different and unique flavors. You can but it by the quart. I recommend their hot fudge sundaes!!!! A little pricey but delicious and worth a great treat! I adore the staff! They are eclectic and fun and friendly and patient and efficient!

Pierce B.

Yelp
i bought a single scoop for 5.99, and it was smaller than my left nut, i cant believe this is a passable single scoop now

John J.

Yelp
Went to Mallards ice cream on Railroad in Bellingham, got a golf size scoop of ice cream at twice the price of Edaleens ...half the ice cream, twice the price.

Heather M.

Yelp
Fun and unique flavors that felt extra potent!! So yummy!! It was very busy, so there was a little bit of a wait, but it was worth it.

Malinee S.

Yelp
$4.75 Triple inde: espresso, green tea and coconut chocolate chunk Not overly sweet. Espresso. Rich coffee Green tea. Rich matcha Coconut chocolate chunk. Love it. Rich coconut with roasted almond and chocolate chunk.

Kristin M.

Yelp
Sad really wish they could bring the magic back and serve scoops! I'm not about to buy a pint of ice cream if I can't even try it in a scoop. Can we all move on from this, vaccinated, boosted, when do we return to normal?!
