Yelp
My favorite place to get lunch in Troy, hands down, and while I do I understand there are A LOT of great options in Troy, I find myself here week after week.
The sandwiches are 12-steps beyond delicious; sure, you're thinking...what could be so great about a sandwich, right? Get yourself to Mallos and order what looks best to you from the small, but mighty, menu board of options and you will see what I'm talking about. The ingredients are all top tier quality to my tastebuds, and every layer of each sandwich I've tried so far has been prepared perfectly. The Roasted Turkey has been my favorite, and one I've returned to already. Rotating specials are sure to catch your eye and Gluten Free bread is also an option for friends in need of that restriction.
And allow me to let you in on a little secret: Mallo's has the BEST onion rings in the 518. They start by pickling the red onions, then tempura battered, fried the exact right temperature and color, and severed with buttermilk ranch (a Russian dressing substitution available for vegan-visitors and oddball-ranch-haters, too.) Another side option, the fresh-cut ribbon chips are exactly the kind of potato chips I want with my sammie from an extra-special place like Mallo's; crisp, salty, and still warm from the kitchen.
The cashier stand, always staffed with a friendly face who chats happily with regulars and first timers alike, also doubles as a refrigerated case offering a variety of beverages, desserts, and additional sides to enjoy onsite or take to go. Service has always seemed pretty speedy, considering how freshly everything is prepared; I think the most I've waited for food after ordering is 7 or 8 minutes, on the busiest of my visits, when I arrived to a line of 2 people ahead of me and 3 others already waiting for their food. Incredibly impressive.
Love the style of this spot, with bright walls and art that is interesting to look at and chat about. In the warmer months, I've found tables outside to be pleasant, but almost always post up at the window facing bar to people watch the comings and goings of downtown Troy.
