"In the middle of the pretty pedestrian zone of this well-maintained spa town, you will come across this interesting dual concept of coffee shop and restaurant. Coffee and cake are served here during the day, while in the evening the kitchen team, headed up by eponymous proprietor Malte Kuhn, proposes modern dishes – prepared in the "hidden kitchen" tucked away behind a sliding panel. They skilfully pare things down to the essentials, making the ingredients the focus of the 3- to 6-course menu, from which you can also choose à la carte. They also offer a vegetarian menu that changes every month. In addition to the wine pairing, there is also a non-alcoholic beverage pairing based on the teas from the coffee shop. The service is extremely friendly and professional, with the cooks also getting in on the act and the owner always on hand, too. A pleasant, cosy little restaurant with a charm all of its own – dining here makes for a really fun experience!" - Michelin Inspector

I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the restaurant Maltes Hidden Kitchen in Baden-Baden, Germany. An absolutely outstanding dining experience and, quite frankly, a must-visit restaurant in Baden-Baden. A friend and I both chose the six-course menu from the left side of the menu, and every single dish was executed at an exceptional level. The duck liver and the winter truffle preparation were truly memorable — especially the potato and winter truffle dish, which showcased the truffle in a remarkably pure and intense way, allowing its aroma and depth to shine without distraction. Both the lobster and the veal were cooked to absolute perfection, with a precise cuisson and an exceptional balance of flavors that elevated the ingredients rather than overpowering them. The melted Vacherin Mont d’Or with truffle was another highlight, a wonderfully indulgent and harmonious combination. The meal concluded beautifully with the blood orange and chocolate dessert, which was both elegant and indulgent, a perfect final note to an already superb culinary journey. This is clearly a restaurant that has earned its reputation — reservations can be difficult to secure, and for good reason. It is very well known not only among visitors to Baden-Baden but also among locals. The restaurant also operates as a tea and coffee shop and is open for breakfast from Wednesday to Saturday. While breakfast is not the focus of this review, it is worth mentioning that we also tried it and found it to be of equally high quality. If you can’t secure a dinner reservation, breakfast is absolutely worth considering — reservations are strongly recommended there as well. The ambiance is warm and elegant, with beautiful natural wood tables and excellent lighting that highlights the dishes perfectly. The location is ideal, right in the center of Baden-Baden, close to a street beautifully decorated during the Christmas season, which adds to the charm, especially at the end of the year. Service deserves special praise: efficient, warm, smiling, and genuinely welcoming. The owners themselves are deeply involved — the wife actively and attentively managing the dining room and providing thoughtful explanations, while her husband works in the kitchen. This personal involvement clearly contributes to the exceptional quality and consistency of the experience. An unmissable address in Baden-Baden for anyone who appreciates refined cuisine, precision, and genuine hospitality.

Dining at Maltes Hidden Kitchen was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The atmosphere is intimate and welcoming, allowing the food to truly take center stage. Every dish was a masterpiece, showcasing both creativity and precision, with flavors that were perfectly balanced and beautifully presented. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the dessert—absolute perfection. It was the kind of dish that lingers in your memory long after the meal, a true testament to the chef’s artistry. From the impeccable service to the outstanding food, this Michelin-starred gem exceeded all expectations. If you’re looking for a culinary experience that is both refined and unforgettable, Maltes Hidden Kitchen is a must-visit in Baden-Baden.

After a few long days at a conference, we wanted a meal that would help us relax and enjoy something special. Maltes Hidden Kitchen in Baden-Baden was just what we were looking for. We chose the 5-course tasting menu with wine pairing, and every dish was impressive. The food was beautifully presented without being over the top, and the flavors were well-balanced. Each course was thoughtfully prepared, and the presentation made the meal feel special without being too fancy. The wine pairings were spot on, complementing the food perfectly. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable, ensuring we had everything we needed without hovering. Their service made the experience even more enjoyable. Overall, Maltes Hidden Kitchen provided a great way to wind down after a busy week. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was just right. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a great dining experience in Baden-Baden.

This small restaurant is a hidden gem! The kitchen is definitely what it’s called, and I wouldn’t have expected a restaurant in this location to have such a great kitchen. The food is top-notch and executed perfectly. I would say they could improve their wine pairing selection, but overall, it’s a great experience.

We were here for coffee in the morning and a coursed meal at night. INCREDIBLE. Beautiful service, great meal. The amouse bouches were amazing, layered complex flavours in every dish. The 3 course meal was a perfect dinner to close out our trip!

We had the menu in June and we loved everything! It's experimental and surprisingly great. The wine pairing was perfect although it was too much for my low alcohol tolerance, they're very generous with wine so if you can drink more then this will be super worth it m. The coffee converted to restaurant was a cute concept. Setting was intimate yet informal, relaxed. Would come back if I have a chance for their new menu because they change their menu. Well deserved of the one star, it's even so much better than the one star we tried in Paris.

Cosy ambience with friendly waitstaff. We enjoyed the first few courses very much, but the service was quite slow for a fine dining restaurant. The entire dinner took 3 hours for 6 courses which made us feel quite sleepy. Also had to send the cheese course back, as the addition of curry powder to the apple foam and cheese made it overwhelmingly pungent for our tastes. Still an enjoyable experience especially the dessert course, but would recommend speeding up service slightly.

Dined on a Friday night. The service was perfectly executed with well explained dishes in either Deutsche or English and an attentive staff. The wine pairing is a must. I definitely tried wines I would have never ordered and even one that completely changed its characteristics after 10mins or so. It was superb. I had the 6 course option for food and enjoyed each offering. My least favorite dish was the deconstructed Mac and cheese since it was super rich a d difficult to eat all at one time. My favorite dish was the desert…usually this is an afterthought after so much food, but it was really lovely.
