A wonderful theatre with a great catalog of works, I’ve never been dissatisfied. This is a review for the food in their (newish) restaurant. We came here for dinner with a booking for four, a fifth person joined and they were flexible moving us around. Good service. We got their two side options, fries with aioli and a rocket pear walnut salad. Both priced around $15 they were enjoyed and met my expectations. The pizzas were not bad, I enjoyed the prosciutto pizza more as the rocket one was mild and not very flavourful.

Lovely heritage-listed, red brick, theatrical venue. Comprising of 3 seperate theatres with varying capacities from 500 seats over multiple levels to a intimate 100 seat black box room. Distinctive 1st floor RED toilets with ample facilities (and an accessible downstairs toilet) and a bar, cafe and relaxing outdoor seating area. Showcasing local theatre, comedy and music performances.

The Malthouse Theatre is one of my favourite venues to visit. The set-up is great. During the summer season & in winter (when not raining), they have an outdoor area whereby events are held & giving you the opportunity to enjoy the gorgeous weather in Spring & Summer whilst having drinks/food. Malthouse also has a dining area inside the venue. I really love this place. Loving the quaint, red brick walls & outdoor space to have drinks, dining & watching an outdoor show or indoor if that is your preference. A definite must to visit.

If your into performance and theatre, this is an experience you definitely don’t want to miss out on. Something so incredibly different and innovative you wouldn’t have seen before. Because The Night is a theatre show loosely based on Hamlet, however instead of the actors performing traditionally on a stage, they perform alongside you in rooms, where you are able to explore, walk through and watch at your own leisure. You cannot touch the actors and they cannot touch you, they simply perform like you aren’t there. Different scenes are performed at the same time, and you start by entering either the Gymnasium, Bedroom or Office (chosen at time of booking). No phones or bags are allowed in, so the inside remains a mystery to you. You are given a mask and a cape to wear, and you must remain silent as you explore the rooms. We were astonished by how many rooms there actually were, we didn’t even get to see them all in the 90 minutes. We seemed to be fish out of water and a little confused as what we were meant to be doing, my advise is to follow the actors, and not delve too much into each room looking for answers to the story as we did. Enjoy the show, we highly recommend it! Tickets can be purchased from the Malthouse Theatre website and were $120pp. Only 60 audience members per show.

ECHO was an unexpected and somewhat unsettling production. Loved it! I went expecting the improv comic genius of Jan Fran and instead witnessed a very moving, unusual performance about home, time, displacement and the tires that bind. Very unusual style. Thought provoking and brilliantly delivered.

What a great spot! Went recently for a body positive Taking up space event. The stage is set up great with beautiful fairy lights strung across from the stage to the back of the seating. Inside bar was reasonably priced, although food was a bit too expensive for what we received ($8 chips / $7 burger drinks from $7) *Cashless venue* All in all a good experience and would happily return.

Loved the Malthouse Took grandsons to see a a kid's comedy show Signor Baffo. They loved it so did the parents. Was very funny and had all laughing. Some of the children got to go on the stage and participate in the show. This show on until 19th April. Well worth attending.

Yelp
Most would probably only frequent here for the food for convenience when seeing a show but I frequent here for the food as I attend a course nearby. So far I've had soup special and the salad plate, which at $12.50 to pick and mix your own is pretty decent. There's always a plethora of gourmet salads on offer, tonight the Asian Chicken Colslaw & Parsnip, Pear, Rocket & Parmesan were my choices and were quite delish! I also treated myself to their special robust single origin coffee & a crumbly melt in your mouth 'yo-yo'... Indulgent! There's some nice outdoor seating if you can brave a Melbourne winter but the cosy brick exposed ambience inside is quite intimate.

Yelp
Actors, Writers, Directors, Singers, Dancers, Theatre-Goers and Corporates all call the Malthouse home for morning coffees, lunches, after work catch-ups and pre or post show drinks. At lunch time, there are usually four or five huge fresh, delicious, daily salads made up for you to eat in or take away. The coffee isn't anything to rave about - a little weak and bland in flavour, but not bad. The best thing about the Malthouse cafe is the outdoor seating area. Huge timber communal tables with bench seats sit amongst shady trees in a courtyard surrounded by ACCA, Chunky Move and the Malthouse workshop. It's the perfect place to meet up with a group of people or to sit on your own with a good book or play. There is also a very quiet upstairs balcony area inside, for more intimate meetings and conversations. Don't miss the pop-up bookstore inside the foyer, selling plays and theatre-related books one hour prior to any performance. Chookas. Break a Leg. Bravo.

Yelp
I once saw a contemporary dance performance at the Malthouse where the performers ran in a circle for 20 minutes in skimpy underwear. I really should watch more dance. The Malthouse offers a variety of performances, from theatrical plays, solo performances, dance, cabaret, music etc and the selection is usually to the left of the cultural spectrum. Due to the nature of the venue each experience will vary and artistic taste is subjective, however the Malthouse is known for shows of a high quality and artistic integrity. The converted red brick factory building provides an interesting performance space with plenty of on site parking or catch the no1 tram. Performances average around $35 per ticket and around $25 for concession/students. Be sure to get there early for a drink at the bar downstairs and for a good seat.

Yelp
Nice space, casual atmosphere and some good shows. I live nearby so it's a short walk but for those driving parking could be a bit of an issue.

Yelp
A really relaxing place to have an afternoon coffee and cake (ok... a Swedish Fika is a tradition I adhere to) and just relax. Or after dance class at Chunky Move for a light lunch. This place serves a really nice poppyseed cake.
