Mama Africa in Harlem serves vibrant American-African cuisine, offering mouthwatering West African dishes in a warm, colorful setting that feels like home.
"The yellow lettering on Mama Africa’s storefront is so large that you could probably see it from a plane above, and if you did, you wouldn’t be wrong to make an emergency landing in Harlem for some Senegalese food. Buffet trays behind the counter are full of white rice and lamb curry, and golden-brown chicken comes out smoky, like it was grilled outside in the summer. Takeout orders line up by the cash register, but there are also a few tables covered in brightly-colored tablecloths. The sight of a couple peacefully eating a whole fish might convince you to sit down and stay awhile before jetting off again. Either way, don’t leave without a ginger juice—equal parts spicy and sweet." - Willa Moore
