Mama Bread - Review - East Nashville - Nashville - The Infatuation

"Mama Bread in East Nashville is churning out freshly-baked croissants from its oven starting at 8am, followed by the bread(s) of the day at 10am. Along with their laminated goodies, the shop stocks fresh produce from Bloomsbury Farm, and an assortment of oils, jellies, butters, and chocolates to accompany its treats." - Jackie Gutierrez-Jones

Heard whispers about this spot poolside at Soho House yesterday, and naturally had to check it out. Very glad I did. The vibe is chef’s kiss — tucked into a cute neighborhood, with a little market inside stocked with some fresh produce, meats, cookbooks, even candy (all perfectly aesthetic packaging, of course). It feels like someone curated it straight out of a design mood board. Since they just opened yesterday, they are limit in things to one pastry per person (probably smart, because otherwise I’d have walked out with a mountain of croissants). We grabbed the ham & cheese croissant and the morning bun. The croissant? Imagine a buttery, crispy grilled ham & cheese sandwich had a love child with a perfectly laminated croissant. Absolute perfection. The morning bun? Divine—layers of caramelized sugar, cinnamon, and orange zest that basically made me want to lick my fingers in public. We didn’t try the bread loaves (travel problems), but overheard the fresh batch hits the shelves at 10am—worth timing your visit if you’re local. Family-friendly, staff were genuinely friendly, and while there was a line, it moved quickly. Espresso was surprisingly great too (not what I came for, but happy bonus). And the space is full of thoughtful little touches—yes, even down to the custom hand soap. All in all, it feels like Nashville just got itself a new carb temple. Highly recommend.

When I found out a bakery was moving in to this building I was SO EXCITED and it is better than I could have hoped! The bread here is probably the best bread I've ever had! Every pastry I've tried has been SO delicious, I can't wait to try them all (like tomorrow??) The owners Jenn and Evan are so sweet and genuine and it shows that they truly care about improving the neighborhood. This is a place for locals to gather and grab a fresh sourdough loaf or other great items from their market area and fresh produce fridge and see a friendly face every time! The cafe and outdoor seating area is beautiful and spacious, perfect to meet a friend or read a book while you drink some Heart espresso (one of my faves) and have a flaky warm pastry. Nashville has needed more bakeries for years and this is a perfect addition to east Nashville! Long Live Mama Bread!

Can’t say enough wonderful things about Mama Bread. We’ve been needing a place like this in East Nashville for WAY too long — and it’s finally here. The sesame loaf is the best bread I’ve ever tasted — not to mention the croissants are to-die for. Sells out quickly because it’s all amazing. Also a really great local neighborhood hangout spot, definitely check it out.

Absolutely incredible bakery, my husband and I waited in line 3 days in a row for their fresh morning buns, and we are not “wait in line because it’s new” type of people, it’s just that good. Easily one of the best pastries I’ve ever had. The owner is sweet and warm, coffee is great (though we wished they had iced coffee in this heat!), and we even bought some of their fresh produce which was great with our dinner. The inside and outside seating areas are thoughtfully designed. I can’t wait to see this place grow and thrive here in East.

This is a really lovely spot! I popped in near closing time so they were all out of bakery items, but I ordered a matcha and it was delicious! The person who took my order was very friendly and helpful. The space is clean, spacious, and beautiful. I look forward to coming back!

I was so excited about this bakery opening in my neighborhood. The store is SO CUTE. Sadly when I got there at 11:20 they said they were completely SOLD OUT for the entire day but they were staying open until 4:00! They only had 5 drink options. I asked why they did not post on their instagram @mama.bread.nashville when they were out of bread- that way their customers would know what to expect and the barista said they are intentionally not posting on instagram when they are out of food to get more people in. PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL OF YOUR CUSTOMERS TIME!!! I would have come back another day earlier! Please post when you are out of ALL food options. Your community wants to support you.

Bread not being ready until 10am was a real bummer. Also only letting you buy one pastry per person was a soup Nazi type letdown for me. (This forces longer lines and probably discourages visitors from afar) Would be better to sell out? Great atmosphere, hip as all getup. But kind of felt like that SNL waiting in line sketch. Brightside is still superior and without pretense. Will go keep going Dozen for bread until I can get something at 8a around these parts. Will keep an open mind and update review if things change :)
