Mama G's Italian Restaurant

Mama G's is hands down probably the best Italian place I've been to. The food was absolutely amazing packed full of flavor and freshness. I have nothing but praise and love for this place. It is a little on the expensive side but worth it. I will definitely be back anytime I am near Clayton, GA again!

Leaving it a 5… with an asterisk. I got excited and started looking at the menu missing the RED TEXT in there. Twice. Sandwiches (subs) are not available after 3pm. Thought I’d get a steak. RED TEXT… ribeyes only available Mom-Thurs. daughter asked for a shrimp pasta dish. Server says they don’t make that till after 4pm. It was 3:45…. 🤔 If you’re past that. This is why it’s a 5. Cheese bread is basically a sub roll… but it was excellent. Very light and crispy… NOT burnt at all. Marinara was excellent. My daughter did get Walmart she asked for and it was excellent. The chicken parm was baked in the bowl enough it crusted the cheese a bit. $97 for two pastas and a pizza with 3 drinks. A bit rich for me, but it was good. I recommend it, but look for the RED TEXT in theme so you dont get annoyed.

Based on reviews, we had great expectations regarding this place. We couldn't be more disappointed. The service was terrible. The food was horrible 😫 We ordered bread sticks, we were served some fried burned dough. I ordered Veal Marsala. The veal was tough and full of connective tissue, it was very hard to sliced and chewing. Definitely a place that I will avoid at all cost.

Thought the Chicken Parm, side salad, & Meatballs were great. The Chicken on the Greek Salad didn't seem fresh, nor did Garlic Knots. We sat in a booth near the bar, and the bartender was our server. She took our order and brought the check. Runners brought everything else, and no one check in on us. The room was freezing & they had loud dance music playing. Both of which made having a relaxing lunch impossible.

The family agreed this was 4.5. My daughter rated her tortellini a 5. I rated my lasagna a 4.5. Hubby rated his calzone a 4 because it wasn't as stuffed as most canzone he's had. Service was excellent. Atmosphere could best be described as Italian meets Sports Bar.

Inattentive and Unfriendly Servers. Waiting on tables who arrived after us, lengthy delays on taking our orders, drink refills and receiving our food. We had to continually flag him down and he repeatedly ignored our requests for extra sauce for very dry pasta (see photo). Not only did we not get the extra sauce, but we also had to flag him down for our bill and then flag him down again to tell him he gave us someone else’s bill, to which he replied “You should have paid it, it’s cheaper than yours“. Our appetizer was served by a different server, who literally stood by our table, holding the food, looking miserable, and never speaking one word to us. So uncomfortable. I finally broke the silence and asked her if she wanted us to help her put the one plate on the table. Two out of the four of us enjoyed their dishes, while the other two left their unfinished dishes behind. Our intent was to also order a pizza to go, however, after our unpleasant server experience and waiting so long for our dinner order, we quickly changed our mind.

I don't often think restaurants can cook as good as my wife cooks the same food. But I will say MAMA Gs is always consistent and very tasty. My wife even enjoys it and eating out is hard for us because she is such a good cook. You will not be disappointed.

We are camping at River falls at the Gorge in lakemoint. Went with friends on a Thursday night. Seated right away. Server was very pleasant and we got our drinks. My husband and I had the veal parm it was very good. One of our friends got the lasagna the other had the Alfredo with added chicken. They also said it was good. My husband and I returned for lunch today and I had the Michele pizza it was awesome and my hubby had the lasagna which it really enjoyed. Highly recommend and We will definitely be back

Service is outstanding, food is good , prices are a little high. They can accommodate large parties, but I would recommend you call and reserve the "party room " unless you want to wait forever. And it's just good etiquette to let the staff know you are showing up with 6+ people.m, that way they can call in extra staff if needed.

Such a quaint little spot! The beef lasagna is probably the best lasagna I've ever had! The staff was attentive and extremely friendly. Amazing choice for dinner!

We gave it another chance and stopped in for dinner. A little better experience than last time. Unlike our previous visit, some bread was brought out with our drinks; more or less like garlic knot rolls. They were swimming in oil, but not unpleasant. The cheese bread was very good and tasty. The main courses were hot and plentiful. The marinara was slightly too bitter. The server was attentive and friendly. There's just a few tweaks to service, decor, and the food that could really make a huge difference. Definitely better than the first visit.

Mama G's might be the most popular restaurant in Clayton. Every menu item is great. We've had various pizzas, and many of their other Italian dishes. 5 Stars!!!

The food was really well made and very good. The place was very clean and kept. However, I do wish the server was a bit more friendly she seemed a bit annoyed at times, but overall was a kind person. I also enjoyed how they were accommodating to my dairy restrictions.

Great food. Great service. The Beef lasagna was amazing The food was fresh and you could taste the ingredients.

The food and service was very good, and it seemed way more clean than I anticipated. We were all very impressed having never been there before. I definitely would recommend this place and will go back if I'm in the area.

The best Italian around! Such a hidden little gem with multiple different dishes for everyone.

The wait was somewhat long but the food was worth the wait! We would visit this place again!

I had veal parmigiana meal! The veal was very small and dry and with lots of spaghetti but the pasta was half dried out ! Not going back!

We did takeout and got baked ziti and the beef lasagna. They have a beautiful restaurant that's well appointed. As far as the food goes it was just average and the chef must love garlic. The garlic rolls were over powering with garlic. The baked ziti was also over the top with garlic. The lasagna was not overloaded with garlic. It was a beef lasagna and lacked the flavor that this classic Italian dish deserves.

Food and drinks always good. Servers are really nice. Bartenders always friendly. Salads are amazing.

I ordered 2 pizzas on-line (10" and 16" are the only options) so I picked the largest ones the make, with 2 toppings on each. After the charge for the initial pizzas, then the $3 for each topping, then the "gratuity" (15%-22%) just for making the pizzas, then the 3% charge for paying by credit card, and of course the tax it was $60 for 2 Medium pizzas that were, let's just say... not the best I've had. Not a fan of Domino's but these 2 pizzas were not worth $60!

The Veal Marsala was absolutely delicious. The ambience was excellent, we really enjoyed it

We had our wedding rehearsal dinner on the porch at Mama G's and it was phenomenal! The pizza is bomb, and the pasta was loaded with cheese. I really enjoyed the salad too. The server was awesome. The porch was perfect for our families and DO NOT MISS the garlic knots!

Salad is always good at Mama G I like the House salad with Cold Chicken and the homemade House dressing. Oh and Garlic Rolls I just love Mama Gs

Stopped out of necessity, not many restaurants open on a Monday. My husband got the veal parm and I got linguini and clams in a white sauce. Meatballs for an appetizer. All were fine. Nothing qualified as delicious. Our server was mildly pleasant but all other servers and hostess shot daggers as you were walking in and out with no acknowledgement of any patron. The hostess just stared at you and never said a word let alone welcome or hello. It was very strange and off putting. Unsure if it's a hostile work environment or their resting state is being miserable. Food was moderately priced, generous portions, clean and not a long wait for the food but given the level of hostility towards patrons, I think we'll eat somehow here else when passing through again.

Mama Gs is definitely popular, likely because it's the only Italian restaurant in town. We found the food bland and lacking in flavor. I did enjoy the Greek salad, but the spaghetti was meh at best.

Came around 3:30 on a Saturday. We were sat right away. We ordered the garlic rolls, cheese bread, papas mean shrimp and the parmesan chicken. We share everything lol. We got our appetizers within 10 mins and food within 15 minutes. Service was good. Food was good. Only complaint it is they took a while to bring our check.

We've been here several times since discussing have been everything we've tried, from lobster crab Yolie to the big sandwich it's always fresh, hot, and delicious!

Went there for dinner kinda late right before Christmas the dinner started out good our dinner was delicious but my husbands calzone came out wrong and while sitting waiting there for a server to come check on us everyone finished their meal and also drinks and our server Madisyn was no where to be found we flagged out the host and told her the problem as she said our server would be right out and another 10 minutes went by finally the server comes out and is very rude and monotoned about our drinks being empty and calzone being wrong and that was the last I seen our server I don't think they should be in the industry if they can't take "criticism" about out $20 calzone that came out wrong and 40 min after we initially got our meals. Might be back but requesting anyone else

Impressive!! Our family of five ordered pizzas as well as pasta dishes, and it all came out quick and hot!! The mushroom ravioli with alfredo sauce was awesome. Lots of sauce to sop up with their buttery rolls.

We ordered food to go. Wow! Now I know why this place is so busy! I had chicken marsala and my husband had spaghetti with meatballs in a marinara sauce. It was out of this world delicious! The garlic bread that came with. It was amazing as well. Definitely will be back!

Definitely nothing to rave about, the pasta was oily and it over powered any taste the rest of the dish might have had. You can see all the oily in the dish. My husband said it was a step above a MRE. The service wasn't anything great either, waiter didn't even introduce himself and barely checked on the table. When we travel we like to try local places and this place was definitely one we wish we didn't try.

If you like Italian, you gotta go here. The food is always tastes freshly made and service is friendly. My favorite is the Lobster Ravioli with Alfredo. Stuffed with lobster meat and the Alfredo isn't too heavy. I get it every time. My hubby has tried a few different things, he has loved everything. He found the Chicken Wings and Meatballs are a great value and gets them every time to take home for next day.

We had been told by family members that Mama G's was a good place to eat. And, we even tried to go with them once. Alas! It was closed. Recently, though, The Granddaughters came up, and they wanted Italian. So, it was off to Mama G's for us. The favorite item on the table with everyone but me (the gluten intolerant) was the bread. The Girls are ready to return just for that. But I should mention that they also have some gluten free items, so no worries for those among us who suffer. Service is efficient, with folks flying around to get it done. This is a good place for family dining; take the kids!

Typical Italian fare. Sadly was not impressed with the quality of the food or the service. Still trying to figure out how the server misunderstood my order of chicken Parmesan with a side of fettuccini Alfredo to mean Alfredo sauce on the chicken instead of the marinara sauce and Parmesan cheese instead of the mozzarella. I tried to eat it - it was terrible and when I asked him to re-fire it correctly, it was like I insulted his mom... eventually, he did redo it correctly - but by the time it came out my entire part was finished eating.

Excellent food and friendly service. Wife had Ziti and it was wonderful. Large dining room so they accommodate a large group.

This is an authentic north Georgia tourist trap. It's okay and that's it. The food was nothing to rave about and the service was too good as in herd them in and herd them out.

I've never eaten here. We called from Mama G's parking lot to ask if our dog was allowed in their outdoor seating area, and the answer was 'Yes'. So we immediately went to check in with the hostess and she said dogs weren't allowed in the outdoor seating area. Adios.

Sat at the bar and had a great meal. My son and I split the Tri- color tortellini and a Greek pizza. Hot garlic bread was served with an amazing Cesar salad. I highly recommend Mama G's.

This place is amazing!! My husband and I didn't feel like waiting and sat at the bar this time. I got a Greek salad and Chicken Parmesan. It was delicious. Of course the main reason I like coming is the garlic rolls!! I could just eat these as a meal. Haha! The drinks we got at the bar from Megan were great as well. Customer service is always wonderful. We will continue to come back when in the area!

Large capacity family dining Italian restaurant with a bar. The atmosphere was laid back and calm. The wait staff talked very little, only stopping to ask if food was okay and if we wanted anything more before serving us with the check. I liked that because it makes me feel like I'm not being rushed out. The Lobster Ravioli with Alfredo sauce was scrumptious! It doesn't seem like much at first but it comes with a buttery garlic roll (very good!) and was quite filling. My 5 year old ordered the kids Ziti, with marinara sauce. There was one large meatball in the middle of it that was a nice surprise because I had actually asked the server if it had meatballs in it and he said no.. lol.. well he ate it bc sometimes he does like meatballs. I was thinking the ziti would of had some baked cheese over the top but it didn't, it was pretty plain. The food came out in just a few minutes and the prices for both dishes were on the lower end for your average Italian restaurant. I would definitely go back.

Went in on 10/19 for dinner. We had a 20 minute wait which was fine but I immediately noticed on the floors, napkins, straw wrappers, and limes (multiple). Servers continually walked right by without even thinking about picking anything up. My wife had lasagna which was okay and I had the spaghetti with meat sauce and added meatballs. Meatballs had to have been nuked because they were hard and had no flavor. But the kicker was they didn't bother to drain the pasta which caused the meat sauce which was actually pretty good to quickly blend in with the watery pasta. I would NEVER eat here again. PS-all the napkins, straw wrappers and limes were still sitting on the floor an hour and a half later. It was really disgusting and a lack of management oversight or if there was oversight they just didn't care. It's the little things you know.

Bad customer service. They would not let us use the restroom after dinner because it was 10 after closing time.

Food is phenomenal!! We've tried several dishes in the past 2 months. The baked ziti & eggplant Parmesan are our favorites. ALL of the desserts are out of this world! My favorite is the limoncello cake. Great service and friendly.

Party of four received outstanding service from Mario! Everybody was delighted with their dinners. Very convenient Handicapped Parking. A great selection of wine and beer. Absolutely no complaints!

Delicious! Great seating. Fast service. Nice server. Beautiful view of mountains. Bar has lots of here on tap. Rolls were so good! It was a huge cheat meal for me (on diet) so worth it!!!!

This wasn't the worst Italian restaurant, but it was far from good. The rolls were hard and difficult to chew, though they had a good flavor; it was almost like they had been left sitting out for a few days, my friend who was with me didn't even try to eat past the first bite because of how tough they are and she has brittle teeth so she has to be careful; the fact that she had to be careful about eating BREAD should tell you something. I ordered the veal parmigiana, and honestly, it tasted like old hamburger that had freezer burn. I asked if I could get eggplant added onto it, they said no, and that was fine, but then the waitress said she would see if they could do it, well, I didn't notice it at first but finally realize that they had put 1 single piece of fried eggplant off to the side under the mountain of sauce, that one single piece that wasn't even the size of my palm cost an additional $3.50, again, I wouldn't have minded had it not been so breaded that I couldn't even taste the eggplant. I didn't even eat a quarter of it and didn't even try to take it home with me. Honestly eating here just made me think that the restaurant orders everything frozen and then simply heats it up. As for service, while our server was nice, we barely saw her, partly due to a large party that we think she started taking care of, which again, I understand, however, once that party got started we didn't exist anymore. She gave us our tickets, while we were eating, and never came back. We waited a while, and when she still hadn't come back I finally went and got my friend a to-go box, and even after that we waited another long while, probably at least 45 min, if not longer, since the waitress had dropped off our checks, and still no sign of her. We decided to just pay with cash (luckily both of us had enough cash on us) but gave it to the bartender so that it wasn't just left laying on our table. All in all the food was sub par and so was the service, I might be persuaded to try Mama G's again, but based on this experience I would rather try somewhere else.

Service was excellent. We had a large group. Separate checks , Ivan handled the whole party without error. Food was outstanding.

Sorry, I forgot the photos. Diner was excellent. Were a party of 5, in from another state. Mama G's was suggested by a checker at a grocery store in Dillard. We were not disappointed. We ordered chicken Parmesan, veal Parmesan, beef lasagna And chicken Alfredo. All were very good but the beef lasagna was outstanding. The garlic rolls and cheese bread were also outstanding. Highly recommend Mama G's!! Exceptional dining experience. The service was also top notch!

We love the food and easy atmosphere. The baked ziti and the pizzas are our favorites.

Dinner and Drinks were fantastic. Mama G was there eating dinner with us. The service was perfect for my group of 7 and mama G it was so nice to meet you!

Our second trip. The service was good. We enjoyed our entrees. Healthy sized portions Warning . They use a lot of garlic.

Great place. Downtown Clayton had a couple restaurants that had at least an hour wait...Nope. Found this jewel right down the road. Was seated immediately. Great food, huge portions, awesome staff. Will be back!!!!

We ordered take out of mushroom ravioli, baked ziti and a Caesar salad. It was delicious and fairly priced for the portions.
