How Black Parisian Chefs Serving Soul Food Are Exploring ‘Afropean’ Cuisine | Eater

"Born from popular soul‑food brunches and film nights, this restaurant offers a highly themed cultural experience packed with African‑American memorabilia and music alongside a menu centered on fried chicken and waffles (the chicken here is more thickly breaded; the waffles slightly sweet and airy). Offerings include a cheddar‑and‑béchamel macaroni and cheese, a “Vegan & Love” plate with roasted peppers and sweet potato croquettes in green coconut curry, Jamaican jerk chicken, sides such as red beans and rice, sweet potato purée, and flash‑fried plantains with a garlicky, vinegary spicy mayo. Signature items include a large “Mama’s Club Waffle” sandwich (fried chicken, melted cheddar, red onion, cornichons, sweet‑tangy sauce) and a buttery brioche caramel pain perdu for dessert. The owners frame the place as both an entry point to soul food and an affirmation of Black culture, and it has attracted notable delivery orders from visiting artists." - Alexander Hurst

The food was excellent. Really tasty and a full plate. I would highly recommend this place. I went for their brunch menu. Reservation is necessary as it's very popular.

I found out about this place on Instagram. We really enjoyed it. Very small, highly recommend making reservations. Not sure if this is all the time, but the day we went they were only taking cash, good thing I had Euros

Everything was perfect! I was blown away by the quality, quantity and level of seasoning. My friends and I had reservations for 7, we were the first to arrive for their dinner service. The Mac and cheese was ‘sold out’ which we weren’t surprised based on the previous pictures of it (being sarcastic). The drinks were top notch, we all enjoyed our drinks. I ordered the rum punch which was surprisingly small but it was very strong which I liked, so the size is definitely appropriate for the strength. The chicken was hot fresh and crunchy but very juicy inside, I ordered a side of beans with rice and French fries. I’m not a rice person but this rice was extremely flavorful and delicious as was the French fries. Zero complaints, my total (I had two rum punches) came out to just 32 euro- an excellent value. The staff was very friendly and the service was fast. The place filled up quick. My friends also ordered dessert the sweet potato pie- they liked that as well but it is served hot. Overall, I highly recommend. The atmosphere is top notch, great music as well (even without the DJ at that time) we were singing, dancing in our seats and reminiscing as we heard some of her classic hip hop music that we grew up on.

Outstanding Service from Leah! Leah was amazing—despite being the only one working during a busy time, she stayed friendly, efficient, and attentive. She made sure everyone was taken care of with a smile. Huge thanks for the excellent service!

My husband and I went for brunch last Sunday and it was exceptional. The food was really good, the service professional and the vibe top notch. Enjoying a good quality and consistent meal at affordable prices while listening to to R&B classics - what more could you want? We will definitely come back here sometime soon.

One of the Worst Dining Experiences I’ve Ever Had We were seated at 10:10 PM, and it took 30 minutes just to place our order. When we finally ordered, we were told they were out of several key items — no chicken wings, no mac and cheese, and, incredibly, no rice, which is one of the main components of most meals. We had to completely change our orders. After that, we waited two hours for food. When it finally arrived, every single order was wrong except one. We then had to wait another 30 minutes for the missing items — and even then, they brought out random dishes no one asked for while still forgetting someone’s meal entirely. This seemed to happen to other people. The owner spent more time outside the restaurant than inside, chatting to people in cars and running in and out of nearby houses — felt like he was running another suspicious business. Meanwhile, the service inside was chaotic, slow, and disrespectful. When we asked for the bill, one of the staff casually sat down with a cocktail instead of assisting us. Then they tried to charge us €150 when our total was €93. Only when we demanded a receipt did we see the owner manually quickly removing items — clearly trying to overcharge us. After 15 minutes of back and forth, they reduced the bill by just two soft drinks. No apology, no real gesture of accountability. We didn’t leave until 12:30 AM. Staff laughed and joked at our expense, and they almost refused to return a phone they had charged for us — and even attempted to charge us for using their charger. A disgrace to the black community- The entire experience was disrespectful and deeply disappointing. All staff — should’ve represented the place better — yet behaved in a way that was not only rude, but embarrassing. Absolutely unacceptable. I would never return, and I strongly advise others to avoid this place entirely.

Totally cool spot! My nephew said the chicken and waffles reminded him of chicken from South Carolina. Crispy, juicy and yummy! The Bamako was awesome! Alec provided wonderful service. Highly recommend for quality soul food!

I ordered the fried chicken sandwich with fries and peach tea. The food was amazing! I got there early during dinner service on a Sunday. Very chill was the only one there for a while but the vibe was awesome. I would come back with a group of friends for brunch or dinner.
