"Mama Kitchen is a kosher Israeli restaurant that exceeds expectations at a lower price than you might expect. Entrees include a full plate of food plus another plate from a salad bar with over a dozen selections. The Ashkenazic schnitzels are superb, but there are Sephardic North African tagines, too, and there’s no better place in Bed-Stuy for a falafel sandwich." - Robert Sietsema

"This wonderful spot in a copse of trees in Bed-Stuy offers Middle Eastern food in a farmhouse setting. Step up to the counter and order schnitzels, kebabs, soups, and stews. All come with a plate of cold composed salads on the side, which could be a meal in themselves." - Eater Staff

Google
Loved the food!! We tried the iraqi veggie patties and the sabich pita sandwich (which also has the veggie patties). Really impressed with the patties as they were packed with herbs giving them so much flavor. Drizzled with tahini and combined with eggplants hmm so yum. The pita sandwich was very filling and had lots of variety of veggies. Highly recommend this place!

Google
Excellent food!! Everything was delicious, The couscous, mafrum, shakshuka, salatim ! The place make you feel like you are in israel I highly recommend this place !

Came with a friend. It's nice to have a kosher restaurant nearby to crown heights. Cool hip decor. It's took a long time to get the food we ordered even tho it didn't seem busy. We got the Moroccan lentil soup, it was tasty. The beef kabob plate wasn't as good as expected. Arabic/Moroccan music playing. Overall nice place and homey style food. I just came for the getaway experience. Enjoy.

Google
Really delicious Israeli food! Portions are really large (I was only able to finish 1/2 of what I ordered —> an appetizer and a main.) Loved their bourekas! Also, I got Moroccan meatballs which were also great.

Google
It’s not just another Israeli kosher restaurant. The flavors are great and I love the interior. It kind of feels like going over to your grandmas house, which is the point I guess! Hence the name - mama kitchen. Instagram // @kosherfoodworld

Google
This is authentic, very tasty, middle eastern cuisine. Surprisingly very well priced, as I would easy pay almost double for the quality and quantity that was received. You will NOT be let down. 10/10. In addition Adi provided impeccable customer service.

Google
Best pita bread of my life - so perfectly chewy and pillowy soft. Get anything to dip it into or a sandwich - I ordered an extra piece because we needed more for the hummus. Note this is not a full table service restaurant, order at the counter and sit either inside or at one of the two tables outside.

Google
Tastes like Israel. Vegetarian friendly. Fast service.

Tsvika K.

Yelp
The ultimate Middle East Israeli soul food ! Excellent variety at real fair prices and very Generous portions The couscous is perfect , the hummus texture is ideal. I had also the Jerusalem chicken dish and it was delicious. Very cosy though not so big (so plan ahead...) space . Highly recommended!!!! Definitely a destination!!!!

Yelp
Food is excellent. But please update your hours of operation. Waited outside in the cold for 20 minutes only to learn you don't open for 30 more minutes (noon) Gave up. Went home

Joyce L.

Yelp
Great food, great service, awesome ambiance. Highly recommend for quick fixes and grab and go!

Guiseppe M.

Yelp
Great food. Authentic, delicious, and reasonably priced. A nice feel in the room as well.

Yelp
I did a take out order of Chummus with two pitas. Can I just say I dream of their pitas. All pitas should be as thick and fluffy and delicious as the pitas mama kitchen sells. Sad to say I didn't love their chummus this time. The taste (after my 7 minute walk) was reminiscent of chulent (tasted like it was cooking since the day before, which I'm not a fan of the "cooking for days" stew flavor; and even the creaminess of the chummus couldn't redeem the dish. For $14+ I would expect a more fresh tasting Chummus that can keep up with the perfect pitas! Hesitant to do another take out from here, in case that was a contributing factor, but still open to eating in the restaurant. They have a lot more seating now then they did last time I came.

R M.

Yelp
The baked chicken was tasty. A bit on the pricey side for what your getting. However it is NY and times are hard. I would still come back if service continues to be friendly.

Reshard R.

Yelp
I've been rendered dumb by flavor. I ordered the salmon in my effort to remain close to a healthy diet (pay NO attention to the burger behind the curtain). But it was when I got to the roasted vegetables WITH the salmon over the bed of rice... Y'all. Y'ALL. As I write this I'm tearing up with emotion. I'm also trying to figure out how I can get them to move in. Of course I understand the concept of delivery but why deliver when they can just live with me and make this 100% of the time. It is all meal good. Breakfast...yep. Lunch...yep. Snack...yep. Dinner...yep. So yummy.

Peter P.

Yelp
Very tasty chicken breast cover rice, but $26? Are you kidding me? I know kosher places are expensive, but this is a side street in Crown Hts. I almost walked out when I heard the price, but I was starved. Tasty, but for the price?

Paula B.

Yelp
The place is very clean. The food was very fresh and delicious! I have a food allergy and the staff person was very good about helping me select alternatives. I haven't had such delicious and fresh pita and hummus since I was In Jerusalem. I give it an unqualified recommendation!

Adi M.

Yelp
Finally found a restaurant that serves Tripoli cuisine!!! My dad and I were so excited we ordered every couscous dish available. The chicken was soft and cooked perfectly. The mafrum was really excellent (almost as good as my safta's). And the beef with mushrooms was amazing as well! Everything we ordered came out beautifully and we can't wait to try more from here! The chershi and matbucha was also very good and added a lot of flavor. Next time I'll make sure to ask for extra chershi! Brings me back to Israel! Can't wait to come back!

Sabeth D.

Yelp
Best sabich I've had in NYC. Amazing service, and great place to practice/use your Hebrew. The establishment is very clean as well.

Danny Y.

Yelp
I expected more for the food. Thought there would be more to the dishes and not just flavor but color as well. Food is still yummy at this random spot. Has that homemade cooking feel. 3.5 stars that I will round up.

Ariel H.

Yelp
Definitely the best food in Brooklyn!! Service is fast, the hummus is AMAZING!!! If you looking to get Israeli authentic food this is the right place to go

Loren M.

Yelp
This is a Hidden Gem in the neighborhoods of Brooklyn New York. I stopped here for lunch while on business and had the moussaka. Everything tasted excellent. The spices we're just perfect giving me a taste that I have never had before. The rice with cooked so perfectly leaving all of the grains of rice separated in fluffy. The potatoes were buttery and fluffy and had an excellent taste. The service was wonderful and fast considering some of the food they cook to order. This will be one of my regular stops when I come to New York. I would strongly recommend if you are in the Brooklyn area to find this restaurant on Google and have a meal. The atmosphere is awesome and the only thing you're missing in this review is the smell and taste that were amazing.

Esther C.

Yelp
I have heard such great reviews about this place. So when I arrived to New York I came by with my friends, from the moment we walked in there was major attitude from the cashier/server. We ordered Mafrum, 2 meatballs over rice and hummus, 2 sodas $75.00 - ridiculous! Food: Mafrum; came 40 minutes after ordering - so had to take it to go - and my friend got a really bad stomach ache from it. Meatballs; were pink inside because undercooked! I asked the lady nicely if that's the way it's supposed to be and she answered me very rudely and defensively said I'll change it for you but that's the way it's cooked...wtf? So that went to waste! Hummus: had a very weird taste. The lady came by with the pita later on asking if we still want it, well duh, how are we supposed to eat the hummus? We did not receive any side pickeled salads or schug.....! As I was exiting the place the lady said "oh so u didn't like the food!?" Really? Did you not see that!? I told you it was not cooked - those meatballs were 100% not cooked! Overall. Horrible service, overrated menu. One star because it doesn't have an option of no stars. Save your self the time and money, and go elsewhere.

Chava S.

Yelp
Best Israeli food in Brooklyn! Delicious platter and sandwiches. The service always kind and welcoming. I kept asking for more salads and they were more then generous and patient with me. I'm so happy I found this an original corner:)

Michael B.

Yelp
Great experience really enjoyed. Food was so delicious definitely recommended. My friend recommended to visit there so we stop by. Food come fast and the vibe feels like home.

David Z.

Yelp
Highly recommend ! Looked for a kosher restaurant in Brooklyn for lunch and found Mama Kitchen, try the meatballs they are amazing! Very spicy shakshuka who most middle eastern person would love to try. Verity of specials every day. Wish them good luck for the new place

Brenda T.

Yelp
A little off the beaten path and nice to have a Mediterranean option but it's a little pricey and, honestly, the woman who worked the counter wasn't the nicest...

Prairie P.

Yelp
delicious and very authentic israeli style home cooking ! impossibly creamy hummus, have never had hummus so fluffy and creamy in NYC, fresh baked pita, lamb shish kabob, and a creamy tahini and beef appetizer whose name I cant remember. Also ordered a main dish with chicken breast covered in a delicious green seasoning with sticky rice and pumpkin... Amazing

Sophie S.

Yelp
Went here with a friend on a whim and we both ordered the Moroccan chicken. Was so good. The meat fell off the bone and complemented the rice and veggies very well. They also had my favorite Israeli flavored water! The food arrived quickly as well. I have ordered delivery a few times and it has not been as good as at the restaurant. Not bad, but not the same experience. I recommend this restaurant nonetheless! Also, the interior is really cute and unique.

Paul D.

Yelp
You gotta go. A friend from Venice Beach bought a gift card for us and we showed up not knowing what to expect. Call first to make sure they are open. The hours on Sunday online are misleading. It says open till 10 pm but when we went back today at 6 pm, they were closed. That's the only reason I didn't give 5 stars. (718) 771-3038 http://www.mamakitchenny.com/ We had the HOMEMADE SHAKSHUKA and it was delicious. Also try the homemade hummus with beef. It's not your typical hummus and this is not your typical restaurant. Go there!

Brian G.

Yelp
This restaurant is an awesome surprise with authentic and homestyle food. I had a boureka with all the fixings which was incredible as well as their meatballs and rice which was so unique and delicious. Highly recommend this spot, I wish I lived closer to try more things on the menu.

Catina S.

Yelp
The food definitely taste like a middle eastern mama was in the kitchen cooking it. Everything was fresh and made you feel good and warm in the inside. Hummus was great and the bread was so hot & fresh ! The nice young lady at the counter can explain the food items a tad better but it's a nice quaint homey feeling place with great kosher food

Lena M.

Yelp
I'm just purely shocked! I never ate such wonderful food in such a sweet setting and place! No words!!!!

Shira A.

Yelp
THE BEST FOOD IN BROOKLYN!!!! And kosher! Have no idea how it's not packed! My favorite lunch when I'm in the area, you should go on their specials, the mafrum is wow but also Sabich pita is amazing. Very clean place(even the restroom). The front desk lady is super nice. Recommended!!

Via S.

Yelp
This place is amazing. My sister and I ordered the shakshuka breakfast, perfection . Not sweet not too spicy. You can tell the sauce was cooking for a couple hours. Everything on menu seems specialized. Smaller menu, better quality products. I can't wait to try their other items! Service was great too. Friendly and prompt. Highly recommend

Noah B.

Yelp
The sabich pita sandwich was absolutely superb. One of the best pitas I've ever had. Perfectly pillowy and soft to the bite. Filled with so many fresh ingredients including hummus, Israeli salad, and fried eggplant. Got a side order of deliciously crunchy pickles and spicy grilled peppers. Also a side of spicy garlic herb sauce that was a perfect accompaniment. Highly recommend.

Moshe L.

Yelp
EXCELLENT!!! Everything was delicious! The space is charming. Staff is friendly. I'll be here often!

Marisa B.

Yelp
My husband and I were so excited to eat here! We traveled after work and arrived around 7:30pm, only to find out they were closed. Apparently the hours on their website need to be updated, because it shows open until 10pm. We wish we could have tried this yummy looking place but we went very out of our way only to be disappointed, hungry, and had to travel back home.

Gdawg B.

Yelp
This place is DELICIOUS and always consistent. It can be pricey but I've come here four times and ordered the same thing (baked chicken with potatoes/sides) and it's been PERFECT every time. What a gem in the neighborhood! Check it out

Keytaro Y.

Yelp
Man. This food is getting me and my family through some hard times man. It's so good. The portions are perfect. The hummus with sabich is bomb. The Moroccan chicken is also bomb. The chicken schnitzel is killin'. I could write a Tolkien word count level review on how good this food is complete with the silly songs and poems. I'll spare you. Just order from here. You won't regret it.

Baloo S.

Yelp
Def worth the trip. These ladies know their kitchen and their customer. Everything was delicious and fresh. There was a diverse crowd of locals and mixed group from other neighborhoods that all enjoy Israeli food.

Tamir D.

Yelp
Love love love this place!! Good environment, good people, and delicious food! Try the hummus, arayis, and mafroom this are my favorites Highly recommended

The Kosher Gourmet X.

Yelp
Go while it is still a 5 star on certain food Went today (Thursday) had the moroccan meatballs over rice 1) The meatballs were perfect 2) The rice was beyond perfect 3) The included yam was cold 4) The included red cabbage salad was so boring Go for the rice and meatballs Or rice and chicken on the bone the chicken will be anywhere from 3.5 to 5 star For Kosher it is so rare to achieve true 5 star There is street parking that is easy to get

Olga Z.

Yelp
No idea where the good reviews are coming from! This place is total chaos. No greeting, no menus on the tables. They have one person taking all the orders behind the counter, while also prepping orders, ringing people up, and delivering food. What a business model. There is a larger-than-life size industrial fan so loud in the corner that you can't hear yourself think or taste. The bread was stale, cheap grocery store bread, ingredients were bland, nothing like food in Israel which is full of flavor. Also our latkes, or as they call them, "veggie patties", were cold. Way overpriced to boot. Stay away!

David A.

Yelp
Went there last night for first time. The place is beautiful ,nice lights nice music great environment. We ordered eggplant with tahini -was delicious. Arais- stuffed pita- was INSANE. For entrees we got fish and baby chicken was really nice also but the appetizers was the best. The guys there know the job for sure! Highly recommend!!

Susan B.

Yelp
Came with my husband on a long over due date night. The food was AMAZING!! The service was AMAZING!! The ambiance was AMAZING! Highly recommend!! Order the Arias...ground lamb stuffed in toasted quarter pitas...TRUST ME!!! We had about 4 appetizers and one main...an of course dessert ;). Everything was incredible! Highly recommend...not your average Israeli place. It's a MUST!

Stefanie Z.

Yelp
This sweet new Kosher Israeli place in Bed Stuy is the perfect place to catch up with an old friend. Yummy food, hot soup and mint tea and a very pleasant atmosphere, easy parking and a hip vibe make this a no brainer. Did i mention the clean bathroom?? Had a fantastic meal here..I had the delicious shakshuka and my friend has the Mama's Sabich....her suggestion....always go for the Mama, she knows what you need.

Itay S.

Yelp
Closest you can get in Brooklyn to the real Israeli experience. everything is fresh and delicious plus the service is great. Great spot!

David O.

Yelp
as a fellow restaurant owner, this place rocks. Stopped in for a quick little bite while I waited for my uber. Charming decor, friendly neighborhood vibe and great quality food. The hummus and pita - great. beautiful silky texture of the hummus and a thick homemade pita. All I needed was a squirt of lemon and I would be in heaven. The schnitzel was well seasoned, crispy and the perfect thickness. Will be back!

Alexis M.

Yelp
Super delicious food and friendly people! If you're not eating here, you're definitely missing out

Eyal B.

Yelp
Amazing Israeli cuisine and kosher great service and great atmosphere also very reasonable in price

Samantha K.

Yelp
If your looking to host a private event or just stop in for some amazing authentic Moroccan/middle eastern food this is & should be your go to spot. I never usually write reviews, but after I had a private event here for my husband's birthday the other night I have to say now I know why everyone raves about it. The owner and staff is so nice and accommodating they make you feel so welcome and really want you to be happy. They created a special menu just for our party and let me tell you the food was AMAZING !!! My guest could not stop eating and they were talking about the food all night mamas kitchen definitely exceeded are expectations and will definitely be our go to for private events & catering if I could give them 10 stars I would!! Thank you mamas kitchen for making my husband birthday so special we can't wait to come back.
