Mama Ruisa Boutique Hotel (Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro State) 9 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Though it’s certainly off the beaten path compared to Copacabana and Ipanema, the neighborhood of Santa Teresa — once quaint and bohemian, now rapidly becoming the bairro of choice for chic travelers — isn’t exactly a secret anymore. But a few quiet street corners, clattering streetcars and tree-shaded hideaways still preserve some of Santa Teresa’s romantic magic. Mama Ruisa, a seven-room boutique hotel housed in an old-fashioned mansion, is one of these time capsules." - Tablet Hotels

Mama Ruisa | Best places to stay in Rio de Janeiro

"No hotel offers better views of the Sugarloaf and Guanabara Bay than this elegant, exquisitely decorated boutique in the hills of bohemian Santa Teresa. The hotel is an intimate converted belle époque townhouse, set in tropical gardens, littered with art collected personally by the French owner – from indigenous woodcarvings to Jean Cocteau drawings. Its seven rooms are decorated with a Brazilian or European theme (Amazon, Colette, Maria Callas) and include a self-contained apartment furnished with Bossa Nova era Brazilian furniture by famous names including Fasanello, Carlo Hauner, Martin Eisler. There are breathtaking views from most and from the swimming pool garden. " - Alex Robinson

This superbly restored and decorated mansion offers extremely comfortable accommodation in a quiet but interesting neighborhood. We stayed for 5 nights.Gives you a different perspective on Rio staying here.| Our room was very spacious with plenty of room for luggage. All facilities were of high quality. Breakfasts are generous and are served by the pool or on the balcony. There are many options for local dining with several good restaurants within walking distance. The best kept secret of Mama Ruisa is the outstanding staff. A big shout out to Valeria and Danny and the other staff who were so attentive and caring and helpful with bookings, organising day trips and many other things. Just a wonderful experience!|Thank you so much.|Rod & Robyn

If you are tired of Copacabana full of tourists and want to truly relax from the hustle and bustle of the city, this place will be the perfect choice. Hotel Mama Ruisa is a beautiful renovated villa in the charming Santa Teresa district. With only 7 rooms it has a boutique, intimate feel. The property is very well maintained, has a nice garden and a great pool. The design is beautiful. The staff is fantastic! Valeria and Daniel will do everything they can to make your stay unforgettable. Thank you very much for everything and see you again!

Mama Ruisa is a gem of a hotel in beautiful Santa Teresa. The views of the city are spectacular, the garden and pool are utter peace, and the entire staff is welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable. The hotel even has a cute little cat and dog, named Colette and Oscar, so animal lovers will feel right at home! Do yourself a serious favor and stay here when you visit Rio—you will not regret it.

Really enjoyed our stay at Mama Ruisa on a recent visit to Rio. The facilities were amazing including the beautiful hotel in general, the main areas, the swimming pool. Our room was massive with amazing. Imagine waking up to the sound of birds, opening your double doors to expansive views of the bay, eating a delicious continental breakfast on your private terrace. So incredible. Mainly worked with Thierry there, who spoke great English and was so warm, welcoming, and polite. The area is filled to the brim with local character with great food around. Different vibe compared to Ipanema and Copocabana but this was a positive for us as it gave us a different perspective on Rio. Much closer to centro as well.

From the moment we arrived, Jean Michelle and the whole team were caring, attentive and informative. Lots of local knowledge and wisdom. Believe me when I say the photos don’t do this palace justice, the detail of decor is gorgeous. Given it’s position on the hillside of Santa Teresa, the views are incredible too. You are sandwiched within the curve of a busy road, but I imagine this only impacts the junior suite by the main entrance which more than compensates with space. The breakfast is a little expensive given it’s simplicity, but still delicious. They make mean (good!) cocktails, too 😉 Mama Ruisa made my trip to Rio, I can’t wait to come back!

Beautifully restored old mansion with gorgeous views over Rio and out to the water. Possibly the most effortlessly chic hotel ever. I cannot recommended highly enough!! The neighborhood is very charming and lots of good restaurants, bars and shops. The staff at Mama Rusia are so thoughtful, helpful and kind. The breakfast was gorgeous and generous ( for R$80) served beautifully to your room/terrace with a table cloth, vintage China and silver and a whole pot of coffee delivered in a beautiful coffee pot. Coffee cake, fruits, yogurt and granola, warm baguette and eggs prepared to your liking.
