Mama Ruisa

Mama Ruisa is a gem of a hotel in beautiful Santa Teresa. The views of the city are spectacular, the garden and pool are utter peace, and the entire staff is welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable. The hotel even has a cute little cat and dog, named Colette and Oscar, so animal lovers will feel right at home! Do yourself a serious favor and stay here when you visit Rio—you will not regret it.

We spent a night at Mama Ruisa, and from the instant of our arrival, it exuded a sense of uniqueness. We were promptly greeted and efficiently checked in. The lobby left a lasting impression with its impeccable and well-maintained appearance. The accommodations were spacious, and the bed provided a comfortable night's rest. The breakfast exceeded our expectations, and the staff exhibited exceptional service. Our experience at this hotel elevated the overall quality of our trip, and we unequivocally intend to revisit for any future stays.

Amazing house located in heart of Rio Service and people there are really caring and been really nice with us. The room was amazing with lovely view overlooking Rio and fine decoration, very confortable and beautifully furnished place

From the moment we arrived, Jean Michelle and the whole team were caring, attentive and informative. Lots of local knowledge and wisdom. Believe me when I say the photos don’t do this palace justice, the detail of decor is gorgeous. Given it’s position on the hillside of Santa Teresa, the views are incredible too. You are sandwiched within the curve of a busy road, but I imagine this only impacts the junior suite by the main entrance which more than compensates with space. The breakfast is a little expensive given it’s simplicity, but still delicious. They make mean (good!) cocktails, too 😉 Mama Ruisa made my trip to Rio, I can’t wait to come back!

Beautifully restored old mansion with gorgeous views over Rio and out to the water. Possibly the most effortlessly chic hotel ever. I cannot recommended highly enough!! The neighborhood is very charming and lots of good restaurants, bars and shops. The staff at Mama Rusia are so thoughtful, helpful and kind. The breakfast was gorgeous and generous ( for R$80) served beautifully to your room/terrace with a table cloth, vintage China and silver and a whole pot of coffee delivered in a beautiful coffee pot. Coffee cake, fruits, yogurt and granola, warm baguette and eggs prepared to your liking.

Hotel undelivered for the price - expected a lot more. Would not stay again. Cons: -No breakfast included (breakfast is an additional R$90 and is underwhelming - recommend eating elsewhere) -Shower pressure awful - like really awful (the sink, on the other hand, had the power of a fire hose) -Bathroom floor dangerously slippery (even barefoot) -Bathroom door does not close all the way -Incredibly loud should anyone be walking the hallways or stairs elsewhere in the hotel -Incredibly small TV that looks more like a computer monitor -Have to unplug the lamps to have access to power outlets near the bed -Button to flush toilet drips water down the wall -Short bed - I'm 179cm and my feet hung off the end if I didn't have my head pressed against the wall at the top of the bed Pros: -Friendly staff -Large room -A resident cat

This is a wonderful hotel to stay in with the best staff and in a great location in Santa Teresa, Rio. I stayed here an extra 2-weeks (3-weeks in total) as so loved my stay and didn’t want to move to anywhere else in Rio. Fantastic Breakfast on the balcony with silverware is a top highlight in a beautiful setting and in such a beautiful building. Thanks to Jean-Francois the owner and his wonderful staff for a very nice stay. One of my best hotel stays during my tour of South America for sure.

Really enjoyed our stay at Mama Ruisa on a recent visit to Rio. The facilities were amazing including the beautiful hotel in general, the main areas, the swimming pool. Our room was massive with amazing. Imagine waking up to the sound of birds, opening your double doors to expansive views of the bay, eating a delicious continental breakfast on your private terrace. So incredible. Mainly worked with Thierry there, who spoke great English and was so warm, welcoming, and polite. The area is filled to the brim with local character with great food around. Different vibe compared to Ipanema and Copocabana but this was a positive for us as it gave us a different perspective on Rio. Much closer to centro as well.
