Where to Eat Vegetarian and Vegan Food Around Boston

"The team behind Mamaleh’s Delicatessen — which dishes out tasty Reubens and more from several spots around Boston — recently opened up this petite 25-seat events space and testing kitchen in Kendall Square. Besides hosting pop-ups and events, the spot serves vegan breakfast and lunch Thursdays to Sundays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Drop in for your fill of carrot lox bagel sandwiches, vegan corned beef sandwiches, and plant-based Jewish favorites like chopped liver." - Celina Colby, Megan Hennessey, Eater Staff

When you arrive at this gem of a restaurant, you’re greeted by Jana, the sweetest pea on this planet! They have a beautiful dining room and spectacular outside seating. The service is top notch, and the food is life changing. My partner and I are visiting from Oregon, and we’re sad to say goodbye to these wonderful folks! My best advice? Try everything here that you can. On our first visit, we split a Reuben and an egg and cheese on a toasted everything bagel. From our first bite, we knew we were going to come back the following day. On our second visit, we ordered the same egg and cheese and the chicken schnitzel sandwich. Again, life changing. Mind altering. Don’t forget to grab a handful of their rugelach before you leave! You haven’t lived if you haven’t tried them.

Tried the corned beef Rachel and it was delicious! I got takeout so the pics aren’t great. Wish they were open more days/longer, but I’ll definitely be back to try more items from the menu.

Cute and original vegan deli - marks the first time I've ever liked vegan cheese 😅 Excited to try everything on the menu. Get here while it's still an evolving experiment!

Food is excellent, all the staff are super friendly. A must visit even if you aren’t vegan.

I wish this popup was going to be permanent!!! It’s incredible. It’s so refreshing to see an all vegan menu and one so accessible to non vegans as well. I swear non vegans wouldn’t even be able to tell that the egg and cheese bagel is vegan. I highly recommend that anyone pop in. I’ll definitely be back! Also super nice people. (:

Vegan family here, with two young kids. Loved this place! Kids loved it. The latkes were incredible with the sour cream (I would buy the sour cream by the bucket if I could). The "chopped liver" is wonderful. The Reuben's with mushrooms, the pickles, the rugelach, the chocolate cake, we've tried almost everything and it was all so good!

So bummed that this was only a popup and is now closed. Hope that the main location will consider adding some of the menu items that were available here☹️. Vegan latkes with veg sour cream, veg rugaleh, some sandwiches and bagel options please 🙏 😭

Yelp
Well that was totally disappointing. After all the hype & excitement of a Jewish deli having vegan options where it is a pop-up, you can't help but get there before it ends. When I got there, am looked around this small place that happened to have another level, & let her know that there would be 2 people. She looked confused & then asked me if I was in the right place, um yes of course, that's why I'm here, is what I told her. Ok, so we're off to a fabulous start already. Oy vey. So I then go upstairs to grab a table while waiting for my friend. I then realized I had to go get menus downstairs since she didn't give them to me. Nobody is there which is unusual, thought it would've been busy. I realize they don't have table service so I get water & utensils for the table. When my friend arrives we go downstairs to order. Well not even 5 minutes later is our food ready. Holy hell that was fast. Later it got me thinking, the food wasn't actually cooked, it was most likely done in the microwave since there really wasn't much to this breakfast sandwich. Also, the rugelach was dry & barely had any filling. Not worth it. Such a shame.

Yelp
Great place! Overpriced, but so is everything in this area. The carrot lox bagel is the best vegan lox bagel I've had after ordering it everywhere I could find one across the country (this was my fifth). It would have been easier to eat as a sandwich cut in half instead of open faced, but I can't really complain about the messiness. The matza ball soup was DELICIOUS, and the rugalach was pretty good. Very friendly service, and fairly speedy. I meant to order enough food to take some back with me; oops, I ate it all right then and there. I'll be back to try the pate plate and the pickles, and more soup, and probably the chocolate cake.
