I'd been here a few years back, and the place has gone down quite a bit. When you walk in, there's a strong smell that isn't pleasant, and you can't figure out what it is. The whole establishment reminds me of a dirty, old folks home. However, the staff was very attentive and friendly.

The breakfast I had was very good and tasted great. Reminded me of my mother's home cooked breakfast growing up. The only small issue I had was the home made buttermilk biscuits were a little under cooked still felt a bit doughy in the center other than my waiter not checking on me every few minutes too see if everything was good or if I needed anything else. Instead he just brought my receipt place it on the table turn around and walk away. He does need too work on his taking care of customer skills a bit more. I will stop by again sometime soon.

Great experience better than IHOP. I had the chicken fried steak taste amazing with white gravy. Also tried some of the pork that was great too nice and juicy. Small buildings like these are really good for service and I love how you can sit any where.my server is named Erika she did a great job. To drink I got a OJ wasn’t that good and you can see it was store-bought.

If home cooking food is what you crave, then this is the spot. Our first time here, plenty of free parking. Sit where you like and staff was friendly and attentive. Wife had the ham and cheese omelet with extra crispy hash browns. Great breakfast. I had the roast beef with mashed potatoes, green beans and side salad. The side salad was enough to share. The roast beef is a lot of meat, flavorful and tender. Definitely worth the price for amount of food you get. Homemade rolls are awesome. Definitely recommend this restaurant and they have homemade pies.

Google
Great find! Old style diner that's probably been there forever with fantastic home style cooking! Lunch specials are super reasonable! $11.95 for one meat and 3 veggies with very generous portions. I had Liver & onions. My mom had the roast beef. Can't wait to came back and try breakfast 😋 Highly recommend.

Google
Love the sandwich and the pork chop the hashbrown was a little bland but i just added salt and pepper and it was good to eat and everyone was nice ill be coming back.

Google
I was so excited , I heard the food was good. But than after I received my order I was disappointed!!!!! Fish fried was hard, cornbread burned on the top and bottom, peach cobbler ice cold!!!. Waitress attitude was terrible. I said it was my first time and she did not care her demeanor was not good! Customer service overall!!! Not good. I wont be back!

Google
I've heard about this place for years and was excited to finally try it. Service was good and food was ok. There were inconsistencies in the food, 2 of us ordered chicken fried chicken and you can see in the photos the different colors of them. One of my sides was cold, another was nice and hot. They have a large menu and you could eat pretty cheaply depending on what you order. I may try them again and get something different next time.

Yelp
Great food, service and atmosphere. Old school just how I like them. Great selection and price point also.

Yelp
Older diner, but the service is really good and the food is mostly comfort food. Every time I've been in there lots of workers so must be consistently great.

Yelp
Great service from staff felt very welcoming. Speedy un service, food was delicious. Busy little place. Good comfort food. We love this place.

Yelp
This is a fantastic diner. If you've ever been to a diner in New Jersey, you will feel right at home here. I've been here several times and I am sitting at the counter as I write this. The food is delicious. The atmosphere is wonderful and this place reminds me of home.

Yelp
Recently had lunch there for the first time in 15 plus years. The food was not even edible. Whomever was running the cash register was also stepping back to the kitchen handling food with no gloves. This place used to have the best comfort food around. I gave it a 2 rating only because my waitress was good. Otherwise, it would have been a 1

Lolly R.

Yelp
Hair in my chicken fried steak. Not returning our waitress was a nice lady. The long thin strand of hair was good and wrapped in the chicken fried steak. NO HAIR in food would of been perfect

Yelp
This place used to be great. Both food and service. Went yesterday and ordered breakfast to go. Got home, but only half the order. Went back, explained the problem and asked the order be made again. They made the other half and handed me the cold half back. I refused and demanded refund. After wasting my time, went to Wafflehouse.

Yelp
Home style cooking. Great for breakfast. Best cinnamon bun in Dallas. Home fries are like my mother's.

Yelp
Came here in awhile with the wifey for brunch and were glad we did. Had to be in Dallas for supplies and did som exploring. Hunger is always a good motivator to find the best spots where you're at! Great atmosphere with that nostalgic and classic diner vibe. Very well mannered and helpful staff. The service was just what you would expect. Warm and very accommodating. The food was great! We both had the roast beef and it was excellent with bread roll and cornbread! Perfect!!! We'll be coming for sure!!!

Yelp
I used to frequent the Mama's Daughters Diner located on Irving Blvd, and they never failed to serve a decent breakfast. This location on Royal Lane in the Asian Trade District failed on every level. The only positive was the super hot cup of fresh coffee and the prompt service. Everything else was tragically awful. The decor was dingy and drab, and very dark, with furniture that should have been replaced decades ago. The gravy served with the biscuits came straight out of a sack. The three egg omlette must have been made with Hummingbird eggs as it was tiny. The menu offered an omelet with bacon or sausage and cheese. I asked the waitress what kind of cheese they had, and she answered shredded. No choices like Swiss, cheddar, Muenster, etc. The pancakes were rubbery and flavorless. I would heartily recommend skipping this joint for something better, perhaps IHOP...
google avatar

Yelp
Worst breakfast I've ever had! Potatoes were cold and hard, pancakes weren't the business either.

Yelp
I love this place. The food is yummy, old fashioned and plentiful. My friend thought I was being crazy when I said it was like the assisted living place I worked in. This is actually a compliment. Let me rephrase it: it's like a cruise ship that has docked and put up the majong. I love old fashioned! I love the clientele. I love that you can get veggies in a thousand different ways and must pick out 3 different sides to each daily special whether they match or not. If you don't you risk the whole establishment checking you for fever. I do wish I had the cajones to snap at the door dash driver who took my 80 yr old friends handicap spot and didn't look remorseful as she hobbled up with her cane and he waltzed up with his sagging pants and no plaquard. don't be doichey door dashers!

Yelp
Mama's Dinner . * * We visited @mamasdaughtersdiner for the first time. The place gave us a old school feeling. We had the chicken fried chicken and the #3 with ham. The flavor was great and the coffee hit just right to a great start of our weekend.
google avatar

Yelp
Good hearty diner food and "blue plate" specials during the week makes this a regular lunch spot for us. For under $11 you pick your main entree and 3 sides and it includes rolls and corn bread so it's a great value too. For Monday, I had the sliced roast beef with gravy, mashers, collard greens, and okra with tomatoes. I couldn't finish it all. My dining companion had the chicken fried steak, mashers, mac n cheese and a salad. Everything was good but I'll pass on the okra with stewed tomatoes next time- personal preference. The corn bread muffins are really good! They have every other table and booth blocked off for those concerned with social distancing.

Yelp
I know the restaurant itself is a real hole in the wall. A 6070s building. But the food is so good. Their chicken fried steak is amazing as well as their sides. And the homemade rolls are off the charts. The staff is very very friendly. If you like homemade good old southern cooking this place is a real winner.

Tom L.

Yelp
Three of us had lunch there today. Our waitress was excellent (can I say waitress and not wait staff?) I had their catfish lunch special. I am not a really big catfish lover, but this was prepared perfectly. Along with ford okra (no salt) and their house salad. I forgot to mention my preferred dressing so it came with a house made ranch that was great Another in our party had chicken fried steak had he said it was tender and not over cooked Our thrift party had a grilled cheese sandwich and their homemade soup As far as venue. Well what can I say, it's a cafe. Other than a traffic jam at the only register 'cause I guess they don't trust the wait staff to swipe your credit card. There were only five guests ahead of me and four behind me. What better than to spend my time standing up n ln line waiting

Yelp
Ate here for the first time ever this morning: 1. Building is about 60 years old, and shows no obvious signs of remodeling-updating 2. Space is clean and quite tattered-rumpled, accordingly 3. Food is tasty, with excellent fluffy biscuits and gravy, passable eggs, omelettes, bacon 4. A codiner believes that the strawberry-banana pie is the best she has ever eaten anywhere Not worth a drive across town, but a solid southern breakfast diner if you're in the 'hood for breakfast.

Tori G.

Yelp
Food was nasty. My fiancé breakfast may have been a little better I tasted it. But the soul food no no.
google avatar

Tabetha W.

Yelp
Just what I was hoping for a home cookin cafe. We got the chicken breast with mashed potatoes and a side salad. My husband got peaches, roast beef, and Mac n cheese. Food was decent. Lots of food!! The rolls were awesome. Came for lunch. We were in and out. The building is out dated and like a hole in the wall, but I didn't come for that :)) I recommend.
google avatar

Jazzie C.

Yelp
Wowzers. This place is delicious. We just ordered through Uber Eats. It got here so fast and hot! Between us we had the roast beef & gravy, the smothered fried chicken with white gravy, and the spicy chicken sandwich and just about all the sides. My belly is so happy now that I've had this home cooked meal. Everything on the menu looked good to me but I must say, it's nice not eating over processed food. This was real food just like mom made it. Well...someone's mom. In any case, grateful to devour it!

Yelp
Visiting Dallas for work and we asked our hotel clerk for good local food that serves breakfast. Without hesitation she said, "Mama's Daughter's Diner". Driving up, you wouldn't see much from the outside but usual signs. Walking in was a different story. The aroma of coffee and food. The sound of families laughing and talking. It immediately felt like "home". The staff was so friendly. The food was out fast and absolutely delicious. Highly recommend. This will definitely be our new go-to when we visit again.

Bob W.

Yelp
It's been a while since I've been to Mamas but still has great service, thanks Erica, and good food.
google avatar

Lisa C.

Yelp
Yuck! Food was horrendous. Service was even worse. Has this place changed ownership? I've eaten here many times before but never again.
google avatar

Maura W.

Yelp
I had been to the location near downtown Dallas and wasn't super impressed, so I as hoping my 2nd experience would change my mind. Unfortunately it did not. It puts off the feeling that the restaurant hasn't been cleaned or seen a lot of excitement in the last 10 years. There was only one other table in there when i ate breakfast, so hopefully they are busier on the weekends. I ordered the veggie omelette with toast. The omlette was a decent size, but just not a ton of flavors.
google avatar

Blaney E.

Yelp
I found this little gem while looking for a place for lunch. The chicken fried steak is the real deal! The sides were ok and the cornbread was excellent. It's a little old but still ok. It was not very cool where I was sitting but otherwise a decent place for lunch.

Holly P.

Yelp
Chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken both very good, enjoyed the squash casserole, fried okra and mashed potatoes are real...rolls excellent!

Yelp
Today I set out on trying the spicy chicken sandwich from Mama's Daughter's Diner. There is a location like 5 minutes from my house but due to a miscommunication error my lyft driver ended up taking me to the original location in Irving. I left at about 11am and still didn't beat the lunch rush hour! The place was packed! I had to wait outside the door for at least 10 minutes. Once I got inside it looks just like your typical diner. Good home-y style. But on to the chicken sandwich. The portion size was great. But I kind of like the bun-to-meat ratio to be the same. Lots of chicken not enough bread. They said "spicy" and *wispers* I said "Bitch, where?" Read the rest of my review at http://bcsitw.tumblr.com/post/145364023970/mama-aint-raise-no-fool

Yelp
Old 50's Diner atmosphere like time traveling. We had a great time. Food was delicious and staff was nice. We will come back next time in town.

Yelp
I am sorry to give someone this low of a score, but this place has really gone down hill. I was a regular here at least twice a week, but once the new owner started implementing his changes and cutting corners and rising the prices, I am done... My family and I stopped by for some chicken and dumplings and it was so bad that nether one of us could even finish it... and to top it off, I told the waitress who has been there for ever. She said "I don't know whats wrong, you are the first to complain about the chicken and dumplings". Mark

Yelp
I recently moved to Texas from Alabama and this is one of the first down home country diners I've seen since moving here. Make me remember home and grandma's cooking! Would give it 10 stars if I could
google avatar

Robert K.

Yelp
This place is an institution. Four stars for food and fifth for super nice people in an old school diner atmosphere. Chicken fried anything rocks.

Patricia B.

Yelp
What a great find! We were in the neighborhood for audio work and found Mamas Daughters by accident. The prices were fair, the food excellent and the service superb. Too bad it's not in our neighborhood. We'd be back all the time!! I recommend this relaxed comfort food to everyone!
google avatar

Joseph B.

Yelp
This shit is Bananas! B-A-N-A-N-A-S! Not really bananas, but their food here is awesome. Their CFS (Chicken Fried Steak) is wonderful! Their mashed potatoes are made from real potatoes. Their salads are great as well. I'm pretty sure they make their own dressing since my French wasn't the normal homogeneous orange color like the Kraft brand, it was just so much sweeter and flavorful. Their rolls and cornbread are just out of this world. They come out freshly made. The rolls are so fluffly and the cornbread is crispy on the outside and just heavenly!
google avatar

Tyler J.

Yelp
This place is your traditional "same local customers every day, getting the same thing." Everyone in there seemed to know everyone else, minus the two newbies from out-of-town. Very friendly staff, and the service was far faster than expected. Food came out hot, made from fresh ingredients, and cooked well. The Texas-sized portions left me full enough to probably last the rest of the day. Only drawback is the faint mothball smell due to the age of the building. I'd eat here again though.
google avatar

Jen D.

Yelp
I never had home cooking before until i came here. Everything I have eaten here deserves praise. The chicken fried steak is incredible, the fried chicken is finger lickin' good, the chicken and dumplings are so satisfying. The sides...omg the sides. Mac n cheese? HELLO, yes please! the mashed potatoes have a great gravy on them. green beans w/ bacon floating in it? oh lordy. i can't describe them all. the rolls are always buttery and flakey. mmm..and the cornbreak muffins? how the hell do they make the muffins so good?? your blood type will turn into type ragu after you eat here. but it's so worth it. :)
google avatar

Ariza S.

Yelp
I love how the menu here is greasy gravy goodness! I stopped by on a Monday for lunch and got their chicken fried steak, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, cole slaw with crackers and a tall glass of lemonade for $9.19. On top of all of this the waitress brought me a plate of homemade rolls and cornbread. I haven't had rolls this good in what seems like forever; their so good I forgot to save room for my actual meal and had to pack it to go. They were buttered to perfection, served still steaming and incredibly soft on the inside. Mmmm. As most of the previous reviews state this place isn't exactly a hot spot for the oh so young and in crowd but it's simply a place to get some damn good southern food. The booths and tables are old, there isn't much decor to look at, the diner hours aren't so friendly but the food is cheap and the waitresses are sweet and keep the rolls coming!
google avatar

Scott S.

Yelp
Went to Mama's for breakfast today. We both did the chicken fried steak breakfasts. The chicken fried steak is made in house and one of the better breakfast steaks you can find. The thing stopping me from giving a 4 star review was the actual building and atmosphere. Well, there was no atmosphere in fact. The place is old and in need of updating. It was cold outside and cold inside. And the weirdest thing is that it was dead quiet. No music, nothing just odd silence. In summary, food good, building bad
google avatar

LaToya M.

Yelp
Okay I went back to get the chicken and dressing because I do remember that being good. I admit the chicken and dressing is still decent at best. Now the sides on the other hand...red beans taste like out the can chili beans. Turnip greens taste like they were frozen and not fresh and they had way too much vinegar in them. The mashed potatoes were cool and the gravy has to be packaged gravy. The highlight would have to be the cornbread. This will be my last review on this place because I will not be returning. Oh I forgot! My friend ordered a hamburger with mustard and when we got back to work it was a cheeseburger with mayo. My other friend ordered the chicken fried steak and she said it was tough. She did like the rolls and green beans though. It was her first and last time as well.
google avatar

Thomas B.

Yelp
They're open on Sundays. Don't let the yelp page fool you. I stopped in because I drove by earlier in the week and saw the sign outside said something about being open on Sundays and put it on my list. I got the #1 Texan and let me just say I'm still full. For $12 I got coffee (the most important) biscuits and gravy, eggs, hash browns, and chicken fried steak. Worth every penny. Typical diner food, but still quite tasty especially the biscuits. Apparently they have good pie too but I was so stuffed I couldn't even think about pie. So this place is setup like your typical diner for the most part. A bar in the middle and booths and tables around the edges. It is a little bland inside nothing really stands out and could use some updating but this place feels more small town then Big D. The workers were very warm and inviting and it wasn't busy. I literally walked right in around 12:30 on Sunday and didn't have to wait which is atypical of most brunch places in Dallas. Definitely keeping this on my list just in case I'm in need of a quick brunch spot.
google avatar

Lorri G.

Yelp
Meatloaf turnip greens Green beans Side salad French So maybe I'm the exception and not the rule however I thought my meal was just OK. For home cooked it was a bit blah. I hadn't been to Mama's Daughter's Diner in YEARS. The only thing that was the same was the building.
google avatar

Debby H.

Yelp
So good! Chicken fried steak, gravy, eggs, grits & biscuits served by the cutest 76 year old waitress. Everything was delicious. Go there!
google avatar

Shannah H.

Yelp
Great local diner. I've loved their catering (from the Inwood location) and now love eating in. If you go early on a weekday (say 7-7:30 am), it's a fantastic spot for a quiet breakfast meeting with good grub. I had the fried egg sandwich with bacon. Perfection.
google avatar

Summer D.

Yelp
This review is for breakfast. I sat at the counter and had about 4 folks wait on me. Don't think I ever had a server. Showed up around 1pm for breakfast. Got eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, and biscuits/gravy. Bacon was pretty tough like it had been sitting there awhile, eggs ok and the small portion of hashbrowns I got were average.I didn't care for the gravy at all. Where's the flavor? My biscuits were a little over brown but I sucked it up and asked for some jelly to try to help them out. Biscuit fell apart as I tried to put the jelly on it. Lackluster food, lackluster service. Eh. I'll try another one of their locations.
google avatar

Yelp
This is old school food. Sitting at your grandmother's table while the radio plays and the doors and windows are open style food. After a night at the club with friends where I crashed on a friend's couch I knew when I woke up that I needed comfort food. Greasy, delicious, comfort food and Mama's Daughter's has been on my to-eat list for too many years. When I realized I was a little over a mile away, there was nothing that could stop me from going. Not the headache, not my friend begging me to just stay a few more hours until she'd be good to go. Nope! A breakfast of champions was going to happen. And my trophy was going to be filled with delicious, delicious gravy. I grabbed a traditional breakfast. Handmade hashbrowns, two eggs over medium, toast, bacon, and biscuits and gravy. Yep. All that. IN MY BELLY. Trust me, it was a much better decision than anything else would have been because I had to absorb the bad stuff so I could function the rest of the day. It was (of course) wonderful, and greasy, and heart-cloggingly tasty.
google avatar

Lily O.

Yelp
Ordered the spicy chicken salad! Fresh and simple, chicken was tasty and just right. Asked for extra cucumbers with ease and no extra cost. Cornbread was delicious, taste homemade. This was a to-go order so cant say anything g about the service. I'd definitely order from them again!

Jacqueline B.

Yelp
Came to have a lovely breakfast with my father. To start off the waitress who attended us ruined it honestly what a racist with a poor mindset. I was looking at the meñu and I just so happened to be on the lunch side the old woman asked if we were ready my dad answered yes so I proceeded to tell her I wanted a chicken fried steak. She said I was on the wrong side of the menu, so I flipped over to the breakfast side and told her give us some more time as I'm looking at the breakfast side the same thing I wanted was on the breakfast side so at this point she was being extra plus she had a ugly attitude. She came back took our order and my dad told her why did she make it a big deal when she easily could had told me they have that for breakfast to instead of flipping over to the breakfast side... she took our order food was great. We are almost done eating and right beside behind the booth we are in another waitress asks our waitress Mary what tables she is serving and as I turn around she points at me and my father and says the two browns and the table behind them. Aweee hell, this restaurant is a easy five star with the food but with her here it's a 1 star. If you don't want to experience racism do not let Mary serve you. I had to get out the restaurant because she was awful. My dad was paying the bill and another woman at the front didn't charge our food when my father told her the experience with her.

Yelp
Came here for breakfast after stopping at Nordstrom's. Well we got here at 11 and came to find out they serve breakfast all day on Saturday and Sunday! Also turns out we were all starving and nobody ate breakfast! Lol we had chicken fried chicken and chicken fried steak. Service was excellent. We were seated quickly. Price was right. We will be back for more home cooking.

Yelp
YUM YUM this is a good ol' fashioned diner with a huge menu and excellent food. I would call it a hole in the wall but it's a big funky looking building that you might be tempted to drive on by. But resist that urge! It's very good comfort food!
