"Tucked away in an industrial park, Mama’s Dumpling & Coffee is a destination for good xiao long bao and great sheng jian bao. Hint: Go between lunch and dinner to get those sheng jian bao (juicy and crispy) with the most minimal wait time. While the location is remote, make the most of your trip by visiting Wild Sweets (an amazing chocolatier) and Fuggles & Warlock (“keeping beer weird”), both located in the same industrial park." - Jay Friedman

Food is fresh and high quality. The staff is friendly and helpful. Restaurant is not a fancy place but the place is clean and tidy. You need to place your order at the counter and the food is served to you on the table.

Absolutely amazing! Nice small restaurant around the corner. Drove from UBC to here for an authentic Shanghainese cuisine taste. It didn’t disappoint me. Sheng Jian was as good and authentic as the ones in Shanghai, the noodles were delicious, and the soup was smooth and tasty. Defo my future go-to for Shanghainese cuisine. I was born and raised in Shanghai, so you can trust my taste. 嗲!

Walked in to an empty restaurant today and was really impressed with the Shanghai buns and fried noodle dish. The famous Xiao long bao had plenty of soup in them which tells you they're authentic. They're best eaten with a spoon. Just nibble enough to let the hot soup out into the spoon then slurp it up. The meat inside was delicious. Perfectly seasoned and tasty. The panfried buns were just as juicy. Didn't expect that but I was pleasantly surprised. Also tried their Shanghai Fried Noodles with chicken. Delicious! And the price was great too. By the time we were done, more people came in and tables filled up. Felt bessed finding this place. It's a keeper for sure. Update: I eat here every other week but lately the lady at the till is beginning to annoy me. I usually order my food, eat it then leave a cash tip on the table. Every time I pay upfront, she notices there's no tip and she makes a big fuss over it. She is so rude asking for the tip! On my last trip, I gave her 10% only because she expected it. If she wasn't so rude, I would have tip more. On top of that, I've been there so many times and left a tip that she would give me some slack but no. I'm just another customer to her. Disappointed with the service.

Great Shanghaiese food and comfortable sitting in office area It’s like a food court need to pay up front when order at the counter Dumpling was juicy and portion was decent Coffee was surprisingly good Some free parking spot right in front of the restaurant Server didn’t had a big smile but he’s seriously doing his job well, he cleaned every table right as soon as last customer left the place was clean 👍🏼

Google
Small cafe like restaurant it’s nice and has a cozy atmosphere. The wait time can be long at times and the employees were in a rush, however, I believe that’s because the time I go is when they get a rush of customers and the staff isn’t large so I can excuse the lack of hospitality. I’ve had the soup dumplings and pork dumplings which tasted great. I haven’t been there too often but food was good the times I have been. Overall good food wait time can be long at times and staff could be nicer but it’s a small staff and they get busy so I can understand the stress.

If you were to ask what one food item seems to cross cultural boundaries, it’s probably the humble dumpling. Whether you call it a dumpling, gyoza, perogy, ravioli, or samosa… every culture has some form of dumpling. And, if you ask someone, they’ll usually say that no one makes dumplings like Mama (I don’t know from experience because my mother never made dumplings – but that’s another story). The reason why I’m talking about dumplings (and dumplings made by Mama in particular) is because I heard about a place called Mama’s Dumplings out in Richmond. As it so happens, we were out at the Richmond Sunflower Festival in September and decided to stop by Mama’s Dumplings for some lunch afterwards. First thing that you need to know is that Mama’s is a bit difficult to find if you don’t know where they’re located. They’re actually in a semi-industrial complex located behind the Coppersmith Shopping Centre. Once you find your way inside, grab a table and a laminated order sheet to decide what you want to eat. When you’re ready, bring it up to the front counter to order and pay. Apparently, they’re known for their Shanghai-style fried pork buns but this usually takes a while to come out so we stuck with some basic items… Fried Beef Rice Noodles aka Chow Fun ($10.99), Mapo Tofu ($9.99), Nanxiang Style Xiao Long Bao ($6.99), and Boiled Pork and Cilantro Dumplings ($10.9). First off, the XLB were pretty good. The skin was fairly thin and there was an adequate amount of “soup” in the filling. Despite the XLB being freshly prepared and steaming hot, I didn’t find the filling to be super hot. Perhaps that’s a good thing because you don’t want to burn yourself on the liquids… just found that a bit odd. In any case, a pretty respectable dumpling in my opinion… even better because none of the dumplings broke. Next up was the boiled dumplings. These puppies have a thicker wrapper (which is required to withstand the boiling process). There’s a number of different variations that they have available and I found the pork and cilantro to be pretty good. We don’t order Mapo Tofu very often but sometimes you just have a craving for it. Generally, I prefer the ones with meat in it but I didn’t mind this version. It had a nice level of spiciness but wasn’t overpowering. You really need some type of carbs to soak up the sauce and white rice is the perfect vessel for that job. Last up was the modest Chow Fun dish. It really doesn’t get much more like comfort food that a plate of pan-fried noodles. This particular version is a bit basic… rice noodles, onions, and beef. A couple of sprigs of chopped green onions would have made all the difference here. So, overall, if you can find this place, it’s got some pretty good Shanghainese dishes. Update Apr 2024: It's been about 4 years since our last visit here and sure enough, we got a but lost trying to remember where it's located. Ordered the #101 Nanxiang xiao long bao ($7.99), #108 Stewed beef green onion pancake wrap ($6.99). #503 Shanghai style fried noodle with pork ($10.99). We liked the beef pancake as it had enough hoisin sauce to it. Also good noodles but it could have used with a bit more wok hei. Juicy dumplings still. Very quiet here with only one other customer that showed up during our visit.

Nice clean hidden restaurant. The food is simple and standard. Good for a quick meal if you're in the area but nothing you'd go out of your way for (compared to the many other options in Richmond). I ordered the dandan noodles, wontons in spicy peanut and chili sauce, and the Shanghai style pan fried buns. I saw other reviews stating the dandan noodles were soupy but seems like they've modified it now. Note that it is vegetarian so there was no minced pork inside like dandan noodles you might order elsewhere. The wontons were odd, did not taste at all like 紅油抄手 and only like peanut butter. Not bad but not what I expected, almost as if they used the same sauce as the dandan noodles. The pan fried dumplings were nice and crispy and filled with soup. I would return for the authentic Chinese food as it is limited in the Ironwood area.

Google
This is one of those hidden gems. Located behind the ironwood mall area. It's a spot for the locals to go to who work in the area. These folks are friendly respectful and prompt with service and quality. Their good food is reasonably priced and delicious. Don't let this one pass you by. I've had their noodles, and meat on rice combos and they're quite good. I can't say enough about their house made Shanghai noodles. The fresh and perfect mouth feel. Thank you Mama's dumplings 💗 you'll be seeing me soon.

Tina B.

Yelp
Obsessed with their Shanghai-style fried noodle with Laoganma chili sauce and chicken/pork. So chewy and spicy. Order it everytime now. The shrimp, egg, and Chinese chive dumplings are so good, fresh and perfectly seasoned. Never disappointed with this place.

Yelp
I've tried their food twice now. First time was take out and I found their food to be great but cold so I decided to visit them in person as well so I can try the food hot. Parking is pretty good, there are quite a bit of spaces in front of the restaurant. When I went into the restaurant, I stood at their entrance for the longest time because no one acknowledged me although staff were just standing around doing their own thing in the empty restaurant. I said Hello but I was ignored. I did notice a sign to order at the front but I couldn't find the menu anywhere near the entrance so I stood there for a loonngg time. Then I finally noticed the menu all the way at the front by the counter so I then grabbed the menu to take a look. When I ordered, they didn't respond too friendly. The food came out pretty fast though and overall it was decent. The green beans were a bit salty but good when paired with the others. I'm not sure if I want to come back to eat in, maybe do some take outs now and then..

Brian C.

Yelp
Located in an industrial area, I found parking to be an issue. Only certain parking spots are reserved for each business and there's not many stalls to go around..just fyi. This restaurant is basically a self service model. Order at the counter, seat yourself, and they'll bring the food when it's ready. I found the food to be decent, nothing blew me away. The string beans were a bit salty but still pretty tasty. The wonton soup was ok, but the broth tasted like it was instant bouillon. The beef wrap was super tiny but tasty. Xiao Long Bao is decent but not better than many other places in the area. Would I come back? Yes ,but wouldn't go out of my way to do so

Yelp
We came here for lunch during our lunch break and really enjoyed our food! We got a few dumplings and a noodle soup dumplings. This is truly a dumpling joint because all their dumplings were so good. It was also quick for the food to be ready too even though they only make it when you order. If you crave dumpling this would be the place to satisfy your dumpling fix!

Damien M.

Yelp
Near to my place of employment I find there food to be of good quality and super tasty. Though it was easier to pick up my order in the past it is getting quite busy as of late I'm guessing word had gotten out of their good food. Quaint little place, order Online and pickup it order at counter and sit down, food. will come to you.

Huong L.

Yelp
Ok guys, this hole in the wall place may probably have the best dumplings ever. This place is pretty hidden, it's in a business complex so if you aren't looking for this place, it's not in plain sight. Also, they are doing take out only currently so just make your orders online and you can come pick them up. We got: Shanghai Pan Fried dumplings: the bottom was perfectly crisp, the inside was filled with soup and it was flavorful. Xiao Long Bao: seriously one of the best soup dumplings I had in a really long time. It was filled with soup, the texture of the dumpling skin was the right amount of thickness and you can definitely eat it with or without vinegar/chili oil. Shanghai pan fried noodles: hand pulled noodles and flavor was on point. Portion for price is very very reasonable. Definitely coming back here when im back in Canada.

Paul P.

Yelp
If you like DTF, this one is better and more cost-effective. The Shanghai style bao is impressive as well. Just go there.

Linda R.

Yelp
Dumplings were awesome, service was sharp and friendly....I like that. Easy parking too.

Tessa V.

Yelp
The steamed shrimp dumplings were great! The interior of the restaurant is really cute as well.

Kyle C.

Yelp
I'd give this place 5 stars even if they served literal rocks because the Shanghai-style fried pork buns are honestly one of the best Chinese dishes I've ever had. I've ordered takeout from Mama's several times and I'm still floored by how good this dish is. The buns are fried to perfection, and the filling is a solid mix of meat and... SOUP! The crunchinesses mixed with a soft interior and delicious soup is such a texture trip in your mouth that is executed perfectly. Even a couple hours after getting them they still held up and tasted amazing. I've also had their dumplings, XLB and dan-dan noodles. These were all good, and you can read other reviews to hear about them more. For me, I just want to keep gushing about how good those pork buns are!

Alice L.

Yelp
The xiao long baos were amazing as well as the Shanghai pork buns. Xiao long baos were filled with hot steamy soup. The pork buns also had hot soup spilling out. The hamburger and scallion pancake were just ok and I probably wouldn't buy it again. One thing that was left desired was that we had to ask for napkins, chili oil and spoons to just get started to eat. It wasn't already provided.

Ivone K.

Yelp
This place is LEGIT for their XLB (Xiao Long Bao) or soup dumpling! My husband found it by accident while he was picking up supplies at this industrial/offices area. You won't guessed that there's this gem around this area for XLB. Currently only offer take outs at their location, you can call ahead or use their easy online ordering system where you can set the time to pick up your order. If you have to order on the spot, you have to wait for 15-20 mins depends on how busy they are. Parking has never been a problem for us as there's always ample parking in front of their restaurant or the area around it. Our go-to are of course the XLB and also their pan fried pork buns. The XLB have this wonderful thin skins where the soup are still contained inside. The filling is balanced in flavor. Same goes to the pan fried pork dumplings, the soup are still contained inside and it has wonderful flavor. We tried one of the kitchen's menu today, the beef and flat rice noodles and we were really happy with it. The noodles have great wok-hei and the beef was generous. It was a very satisfying lunch for us today sans the kiddos on a cloudy day. Coming back again soon for sure!!

Yelp
Mama's Dumpling & Coffee has been on my list to try ever since I randomly read about them. What's not to love? Hole in the wall, random industrial spot specializing in dumplings? You know I'm down. We dropped in on a Tuesday afternoon (around 1:00pm). The place wasn't too busy but it was about half full. We missed the lunch rush; apparently, they cleaned out all of the Shanghai-style fried pork buns. More ridiculous is that they make these fresh and it can take up to 30 minutes to prepare! The menu is split into Chinese pastries & dim sum, wontons, soups, boiled dumplings, noodles, rice, appetizers & salads, vegetables and meats & seafood. That's a lot of items on a two page menu; focus on the first page. They also have "specialty" drinks, aka. coffee, hot chocolate and lattes. Grab a menu when you walk in, tick what you want and then go up to order/pay. They'll bring the food out to your table when it's ready. Water is self service and there's soy sauce, vinegar and chili sauce on the table. I wish they provided a small saucer so that you could make your own sauce. No ginger provided either. - Nanxiang-style xia long bao (#101) ($6.99 for 6) - these were heavenly XLB's. Wrapper was thin but retained all the soup. Soup had great flavour and the pork filling was juicy. - Shanghai-style pork wontons (#300) ($8.99 for 12) - the broth was homey and comforting. The wontons themselves had a tasty pork filling and satisfying bite. Something was a tad salty (guessing the pork) but overall, great bowl. - Shrimp, egg & Chinese chive dumplings (#204) ($10.90 for 12) - these were so-so. I didn't love the egg filling; it was 90% egg to 10% shrimp and chive ratio. The wrapper was also lacking in texture. I'd come back for the XLB's. 3.5 stars.

Yelp
Yummy food!!!! Reasonable prices and friendly The Dandan noodle soup was delicious and they have the best green onion pancakes

Stephanie T.

Yelp
Surprisingly decent! I had this restaurant on my list for awhile, and finally got a chance to go. It's not a full-service restaurant. You order and pay at the front, then seat yourself. There is also a water station that is self-serve. The air con is really nice here, as well as the interior. It's clearly renovated and well-cared for, and washrooms are new and clean. The xiao long bao had some of the thinnest skin I have ever had. They came steaming hot, filled with soup, and the meat was very flavourful. I only wish they had provided little dishes for me to pour vinegar in for dipping. Some of the best xiao long bao I've had - even the top knot was thin. This is a must-order, and I would get it again and again. The raw fried buns were also very good. The underside was crispy, and clearly raw fried; the soup inside was sooo hot and delicious, and the meat inside was again, very good. This is also a must-order. We also wanted to try a noodle soup, so we ordered the dandan noodles. This noodle came with a more brothy soup, different from the usual thick-sauced dandan noodle we're used to. There were peanuts on top, and the soup had a good peanuty spicy flavour to it. The noodles were cooked perfectly. Overall, I would totally come back here and try some other dishes, while ordering the xiao long bao and raw fried buns again. The interior is comfortable, parking is free, and the dishes we had were totally legit. I would not hesitate to come back!

Yelp
Not authentic. I perused the menu and glaring omissions were there. No sweet and sour chicken balls No General Tso's chicken No ginger beef No lemon chicken No wonton soup, although they do have wontons No egg foo yong Chow mein? Totally non existent. WTF? What they do have are strange items that I ordered. Shanghai style fried noodles. The noodles were made in house. Quite fresh. Why not boxed? That would have made it more authentic! In fact, one noodle filled my plate, and it was at least 3 ft long!! Talk about inauthentic Stewed beef pancake wrap. Inauthentic. Other things such as boiled dumplings, XLBs, all were inauthentic. I would not advise against not recommending this restaurant to no-one. They do inauthentic Chinese food that nobody I know cannot. 4 stars for the inauthentic visit. The next visit will be authentic food. I did see sweet and sour pork with pineapples on the menu. They take credit cards. Inauthentic. Since when do Asian places in Richmond do that?

James K.

Yelp
Good dumplings and XLB. Servers are slow however. The noodle soup was good but lots of MSG.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprise by this little restaurant hidden in an industrial area. So tasty! Was craving from simple comfort food, and this place is perfect for it! Clean and bright inside, serving up very tasty dumplings and Chinese dishes. Green onion pancake - it's perfectly crispy! It's exactly how I want it to be, perfect thickness and seasoning Xiao long bao - thin wrapping, freshly steamed, nice and juicy inside. Yum! Pork and radish dumpling - I can eat a whole plate of this myself! Thicker type of wrapping, nicely seasoned meat inside, with a bit of vinegar :) ahh! Spicy fried rice- soft eggs, crunchy shredded Chinese cabbage, spicy oil. Tasty and not overly spicy. Perfect balance We can't wait to come back the next time! Ps they also serve coffee and tea, including a London fog!

Yelp
First review of 2019, let's start with a 5 star! This may not be so hidden anymore but definitely still a gem! Mama's Dumpling & Coffee is a great causal and cozy place to enjoy some classic asian comforts. Don't be afraid to open the door, you can start by getting a laminated menu sheet and washable marker as you enter and then sit down and check off the items that make you drool. Once you have everything in order, give your choices to the front cashier and you can pay there as well. Kinda sad there is no milk tea here but there's a variety of teas, coffees and soft drinks. Our order came pretty quickly afterwards. Spicy Chili Tofu Slices had a really good kick of spice and the tofu was julienned nicely with a mix of fresh celery and carrots. The Nanxiang-style Xiao Long Baos were steamy hot and of course had a rich broth inside and a meaty inside. The skin was thin but not so delicate to rip instantly, a perfectly balanced xlb! The Boiled Pork and Chives Dumplings were super delicious as well. Nicely cooked skin with a good stuffing of tender pork and chives - don't forget the vinegar to add that special punch of flavour! The Green Onion Pancake was a surprise, not very oily but super chewy - it almost reminded me of the texture of a chinese donut. Very yummy but I wish there was more green onions. The Sour & Spicy soup was true to its name. The two star dishes were the Shanghai-style Pork Wontons and the Shanghai Pan-fried Noodles. The Pork Wontons were swimming in a delicious light and creamy soup. The pork wontons were tiny, delicious presents of tender pork wrapped in a silky skin - such a comforting bowl! The Pan-fried noodles had a mild wok-hay/fried aroma and the noodles looked hand-made with their irregular shape but the chewy, thickness was al dente and delicious. The shredded cabbage and chicken that were mixed in were a great accompaniment. The service was friendly and present when needed. I always appreciate bottles of water you can bring to your table so you always have water at hand. Credit cards are accepted. Plenty of free parking outside. Overall, Mama's will definitely give you the comforts of delicious asian cuisine without making your own mama sweat in the kitchen. I know I'll be back, and bringing my mama here too!

S L.

Yelp
This is one of the best little Shanghai style take out restaurants I've ever come across! It's a hidden gem, only offering take out due to COVID-19 and located in an industrial area in the ironwood area. Next time we will try the din din noodles (my old favourite). Today, hubby wanted his usual sweet and sour pork and chicken and egg fried rice. Both were on point! I had the zesty hot and sour soup and the spicy king pao chicken. All excellent! The kung pao and sweet and sour also came with 2 sides of steamed rice. A lot of quality food for a very reasonable price!

Foodlover A.

Yelp
Despite many reviews about the blandness, we decided to try it out. Definitely bland! Portions small. Asked for vinegar and ginger but was told to enjoy the natural flavour. Grumpy, impatient person taking order might be the owner? Won't be back.

Alyna N.

Yelp
Don't be deceived by the surrounding business park, this little hidden gem is nestled in there like a golden treasure. If you're here for the dumplings, then this is the place. The chicken fried rice was bland and needed a good helping of soy sauce to make it flavorful. We made a dumpling dipping sauce with soy sauce and a splash of vinegar with hot oil. Total recommend doing this. The Nangxiang style xiao long(#101 on the menu) was good. Shanghai style fried pork buns (#100) were delicious but gotta watch out of the hot liquid inside. Fish and shrimp dumplings (#203) were very flavorful which compliment the bland fried rice.

A. L.

Yelp
Maximum occupancy is about 40. Right when you walk in the door, there's a sign that says to take a (laminated) menu & seat yourself, which we did & grabbed a whiteboard marker. Select the items on the 2-sided menu, go up to the cashier for them to process & pay your order. The food all came to the table fairly quickly & tasted meh. Ordered the dan dan noodles, beef wrap, XLB, noodle salad & fried rice. 3 out of the 5 items just all tasted spicy with not much flavour. The other 2 (wrap & XLB) were just bland. However, as we were at the end of our meal, the table beside us had fried pork buns which looked really good & soupy. I could hear the lady comment to her companion that it was delicious. I would come back just to try these buns. On a side note, I went to wash my hands & the sink there was beautiful.

Yelp
to start, shouldve been 4.5! reason being... the ginger for the vinegar sauce for the xlb is not fresh. its been sitting in the vinegar bottle for who knows how long. but hey, still tasted tasty! i just love freshly slivered ginger on my xlb. why this place opened in an industrial area is beyond me... but it seems that customer traffic is still there mainly from social media and word of mouth. i ordered the standard xlb, beef with green onion wrap, shanghai pan fried buns, shanghai noodles, and pork pan fried dumplings... the noodles were awesome. the texture and thickness is thicker than most shanghai places, giving you that extra chewiness. the sauce was spot on. simply perfect! al dente and not too greasy. vegs were not soggy. dish was excellent. portions big and priced reasonably. xlb was likewise amazing. the broth packed full of flavour. the pork inside was juicy. both were pipping hot when eaten. the skin of the xlb was thin, but held the treasure well. excellent. amazing! the beef with wrap was so good too. beef was marinaded well and tender. you cant even taste the tendons, they just melted in your mouth and complemented the green onion pancake well. the pan fried shanghai buns were so good. one of my top 2. the buns were fried to perfection showcasing the skill of the chef. top half steamed well and bottom fried with just enough crust to give it a good bite. inside though, just like the xlb...juicy and packed full of flavour. there was a lot of soup inside which made me happy. the meat was seasoned well. saving the best for last, the pan fried pork dumplings from this place was the best ive ever tasted in richmond. i never expected it to be this good. you'd think its just another fried pork dumpling...oh no! they turned an ordinary into something extraordinary. inside was not dry, but juicy and moist. it even held soup like the xlb. my guess is they used the xlb meat inside the dumpling. its like pot sticker 2.0! simply amazing! i was very impressed! special mention to the washroom...felt like a boutique washroom. very nice wash basin for a chinese restaurant! i will be back again for sure! for an excellent, filling, economically priced shanghai xlb...this is now my go to place. so close to me too.lol. they have simple rice dishes as well all reasonably priced. happy eating!!

Yelp
I was having a stressful week and craving some comfort food so I came here for some dandan (spicy peanut sauce) noodles and green onion pancake. The decor is modern, but it's kind of a weird set up. It's a hybrid take out/sit down service. This place is located in an industrial area behind Ironwood shopping centre. Dandan noodles: light non-greasy sippable peanut soup. I drank most of the soup because there were bits of peanuts all the way to the end. A lot of the dandan noodles I've had so far were oily, heavy or thick soups. This was very enjoyable and filling. Pan fried green onion pancake: crispy and flaky outer layers with soft interior. Nice green onion flavour. One of the best I've had. I thought I would have leftovers. Nope. Ate it all. They have an extensive coffee menu but they don't have a dessert menu and I can't see myself drinking it with shanghai food. Maybe the iced versions when the weather is hot? I also appreciate the free parking spaces in front. I was informed they only use organic meats. They have one server in the front busily running around. She was very efficient and asked whether I liked my meal. Nice.

Yelp
It's a small place. Walk in and there are laminated menu sheets and felt markers for you to use to tick off your order on the menu sheet. You go up to order then have a seat. They give you a buzzer thing. Not sure what For as the food was delivered to our table without it buzzing and it was never taken from us. Xiao long bao Dumplings came first. They were super good like everyone says. Really thin skinned and juicy. You help yourself to vinegar, soy and hot sauce. $7.99 for 6. Not cheap but not super expensive either. Next came the spicy cumin wings. Ordered them based on a yelp review. $11.99 on the menu so was wondering how many there were. Surprised when they were brought to our table as there were only 6! That's $2 a wing!!! They weren't bad. Could taste a bit of cumin but they weren't spicy and DEFINITELY not worth $2 each!! Next came the beef wrap. Super surprised how small it was considering they were charging $6.99 for it. It was thin so really comparable to half of what you would get from other restaurants for the same price. Would consider going back for the xlb but definitely not the wings or beef wrap. The place was busy for friday lunch. A bit slow with service as there was only one waitress.

Yelp
-Great hidden gem- There should be a person out there that specializes in reviewing restaurants hidden in industrial areas... that'd be one hell of a niche. Anyways Xiao Long Bao Dumplings - very thin layer, lots of soup and the pork is very well seasoned but not overbearing. If you hold on to it, commit to it otherwise you might breach the pastry. Shanghai fried pork buns - probably my favorite dish here. This dish takes some time to cook, so be patient. The soft bready goodness is also firm and crunchy and brown underneath. The soup in this thing is kinda ridiculous. The pork is similar, if not the same, to the Xiao Long Bao. But maybe more pepper was noted. Cumin fried chicken wings - probably the weakest dish for me. While I love cumin, I didn't really get a good injection of cumin in every bite. The chicken is fried to a dry skin. I think for the price, you could skip this one.

Yelp
Hidden gem!! I had heard about this place from friends and finally tried it out. The location is a tad odd and out of the way in comparison to the busy restaurant area of Richmond. But this might work to it's advantage since there was less choices in the area. The food is fabulous!! We eat a lot of northern Chinese food and this is definitely on point. Ordered their specialties, xia long bao and pan fried pork buns. So good! The XLB were made perfectly. Thin dough, juicy filling and retained it's soup the whole time. I don't like XLB skins that are thick with dough so this was great. The filing can be a tad more that that's minor. The pan fried buns were crunchy on the bottom, soft on top and juicy inside. Great balance and texture. We also had own pork and chives dumplings and hot and sour soup. Both great. A tad on the pricy side but amazing quality! I'll be back for sure.

Yelp
This gem is located in an industrial part of Richmond. I showed up to meet up with a friend for lunch. I am not sure about the coffee, but the quality of the food is great. The pricing is reasonable and they accept credit card. The xiao long bao was nicely made and full of porky juice. The wrapper skin was thin but just thick enough not to break apart when picking up each bao with chopsticks. The wontons in spicy chilli oil were also very good - not too spicy but a kick of peanut flavour. The shrimp, egg and chives dumplings were alright. It was worth trying once but I preferred the xiao long bao or wontons more. Lastly, the shanghai fried noodles were loaded with veggies and chicken. It was one of the better versions I have tried recently.

Yelp
DAYUM! This place is truly a hidden gem. Behind Ironwood plaza in the industrial area you'd find the most delicious XLB (Xiao Long Bao aka soup dumplings) ever. The skin is super thin and does NOT rip when picked up. The juice filled dumplings are flavourful and the meat was cooked just right. Definitely better the michellin star Din Tai Fung. - $6.99 The pan fried buns ($6.99) are good too. Also super juicy on the inside. These babies need about 30 mins wait time though. Where I sat I saw the owner (I'm assuming) making them to order. We also tried the sichuan styled chicken ($8.99). It's a bit spicy and not overly numbing. The chicken was tender and smooth. I need to come here more often. Oh and they accept credit card! Bonus points right there!

Yelp
The vegetable fried rice and pork dumplings are delicious. The pork dumplings are a little salty. The beef roll is a disappointment. At $7, we expect a little more.

Yelp
Ordered three times online for takeout. First time: ordered the wontons in chili oil and the dan dan noodles. Both were meh. The noodles were very soupy... Second time: ordered some dumplings and the Shanghai style fried pork buns. Both were good. The buns had a good amount of soup. Third time: they said they forgot my online order and asked if I was willing to wait 20 mins for it. After 20 mins they said they don't have time to make it so it'll be an even longer wait. I asked for a refund. Will not be returning.

Yelp
Loving this place. Tucked away behind Ironwood, this place is the definition of hidden gem. I've been coming weekly since discovering this place. The XLB is delish- you HAVE to order this. It's better than Dinesty in my opinion. Also tried the Shanghai wonton soup, onion beef pancake roll, tomato egg soup and Shanghai stir fry noodle. All the above are in order of tastiness. Service is good. But I wish they served hot tea instead of just water.

Yelp
I don't often give a high star rating but his one simply deserves it. Here why: No MSG in their food! The Shanghai Juicy Dumplings were on point! Just add a drop of Vinegar from the bottles on each table and bam, your in Xiao Long Bao heaven! Stewed Eggplant dish was plentiful and tasty! NO cheaping out on ingredients The stewed beef pancake was ok but could have used some more sauce in the roll but besides that it was good. I know that if I'd asked for sauce on the side, they would have given it. Green tea is in a large mug with a tea bag SUPER friendly mama owner - polite, chatty, simply a nice person, business owner. Interior is nice and clean.... It's NOT cash only lol! Hope they stay in business!

Yelp
Yes, this place is hard to find but it's sort of worth it for the XLB if you work in the area. But that's it ... especially since you're going out of your way to drive through an industrial park. To clarify, while the XLB are good there are many other restaurants both in Richmond and Vancouver that serve the same quality. What was extremely disappointing was the value and taste of the other dishes we tried. All the dishes are small but you're paying around $13-15. The dishes look like it was meant to feed one small person. Their target market is obviously people who work in the area and since lunch options within walking radius of the industrial park are limited this is better than not eating. The cashew chicken, other than tiny, was overly salty. It was packed with onions to fill up the space. The shredded chicken noodle dish was also tiny, again much too oily and salty, and the shredded chicken was hard to find. Was the restaurant running out of chicken that day??? Lots of cabbage to fill up the space. This is a trick a lot of restaurants do to fill up the space on the plate - lots of cheaper shredded vegetables We left hungry and didn't want to spend another cent here. The place is decorated nicely on the inside but I wouldn't make a special trip to come here. The restaurant should be renamed "Mama saw you coming!" to reflect the poor value and quality of the food.

Yelp
Really great service / super friendly staff. Reasonably priced and wouldnt be able to tell how newly renovated the interior is. Stopped in the area to visit an auto shop and had the beef green onion pancake wrap and some xiao long bao, each item was about $7. Beef pancake was decent and freshly made but found the pancake a bit thick. The xiao long bao were nice and hot and had very flavorful soup, a high soup to meat ratio and tasty overall.

Yelp
Pan fried bun is my favourite though it's pricy 4 for $6.99. Fried is crunchy and tasty. Xiao Long Bao and dumplings are also juicy and tasty. Hope we can eat in soon.

Yelp
This place is a well kept secret, away from the main drag of 3 road dim sum houses! Located in an industrial area off of Steveston Hwy, this is a fast casual, seat yourself restaurant with Chinese comfort food. I decided to check it out after hearing about it from my sister who lives nearby. They have an online ordering system, however I phoned in a take out order as I was getting a pick up time error. Orders take about 20 minutes to prepare. I tried the xiao long bao, Shanghai noodles and Shanghai fried pork buns. The pork buns were super juicy, watch out they are messy when you take that first bite! The xlb are also juicy and the skins are nice and thin. Very flavorful. The Shanghai noodle sauce could use more umami-- Shanghai river still makes a better version. Seems like the dumplings are where this place shines! I would give this place 5 stars if they switched all their take out containers to compostable.

Yelp
Really enjoyed dining at Mamas. Very clean restaurant, friendly staff. Dumplings, wontons and buns were made fresh. The fried rice was great. Definitely with a visit if you are in Richmond (South Vancouver). We were stuck in traffic and decided to stop and was well worth it.

Yelp
Prior to covid we loved this place and would eat there once a week. After covid hit, we continued to eat here but a little less often. The experience has been getting worse and worse. Our food is never ready at the pre-arranged time for pick-up. As such we wait 15-45 min for the pick-up to be ready. Last month we were missing some items after waiting 30 min for pick-up. Last week we tried one more time. We arrived on time for pick-up. As usual, there was no system and customers were scattered around the restaurant in no order nor differentiation between pick-up customers and customers waiting to give a take-out order. We all kind of look at each other wondering who's next and the staff make no attempt to organize things or even to ask who's next. Their heads are down in a panic trying to figure out what goes in what take-away bag. It is VERY disorganized. I finally stopped a staff member and asked about my order. They said our order was ready then disappeared into the kitchen. Another woman came out SEVERAL MINUTES LATER and when I asked again she said it was not quite ready. Then 15 minutes later they found our order in a bag on the counter and it had been waiting there the entire time. The entire experience took 30 minutes and when we got home the food was stone cold and we were missing 2 items that we had paid for and had an extra item added (shrimp which I am allergic to). As I complained about the wait time when leaving I received an email the next day offering 10% off my next order. Wow, the items that were missing amounted to double that. It's "cheapness" really added insult to injury. We have decided that something systemically has gone wrong with the management or staff with what was a great little spot. Sadly we will not be returning but write this in hopes others can avoid what we went through. I really hope they can get their act together because when their food is warm it is delicious.

Yelp
Don't order their Fried Noodles, because their use cheap instant noodles, I raised with the waitress, and confirmed with the kitchen "yes" that's what they use.

Yelp
Thought I'd check out this place because of the great reviews. First thing I noticed is that it's got a steady stream of customers. People have been coming in for dine in and for take out. So that's a good sign. Upon entering, you grab a menu close to the entrance along with a marker, then seat yourself. Order and pay at the front and they will deliver the food to you. I think their specialty is the soup dumplings or Xiao long Bao so we got that. We also got an order of boiled dumplings, Shanghai fried noodles and Chinese samosa which we we're curious about. Aside from the Chinese samosa, all the dishes were pretty solid. I specially like the xlb. Skin is good (maybe just a tad thick, but it's good), and you have the soupy goodness inside. The Chinese samosa was a disappointment. I think the dough is still raw. Anyways, this will not deter me from going back and trying other items. Service was friendly. Only 8 parking stalls though.

Yelp
4.5/5.0 stars one of the best food places in BC. This place is unassuming. The food is not flashy and does not try hard. It is what it is visually but hey we are here for dumplings. This place is a no frills place. Xiao long baos are comparable to ding tai fung's taste and skin thinness. Meat was flavourful. I asked for sliced ginger and I was told that the bottled sauce was boiled with ginger so it's infused in it. Nice touch but I still prefer the texture of slice ginger and vinegar with dumplings Pan- fried dumplings were hot and juicy. Being really picky, I wished the crispy base could be thinner. But taste is great. Beef noodles looked soggy and on first taste, the soup was light and clean. Boy was I wrong about the noodles they were chewy and the soup was tasty and delicious. At the end my lips were lightly sticky from the collagen in the soup, which meant that it was cooked for a few hours. I looked around and everyone's bowls and dishes were wiped clean. True testimonial to the good food. Also it was a mixed crowd of races not just Chinese. So it's appealing to all tastebuds cus it's just good like that. Tip: come hungry. Come in a group if possible so you can order more variety to share. Bring slice ginger if u enjoy it with your dumplings.

Yelp
Great dumplings and baos!!! Unfortunately noodles, rice, and other appies were just OK at best. When I arrived, there was no line, but a disorganized cluster of people jammed at the doorway waiting for an undefined amount of time. Nobody to speak to nor a sheet to jot down your name/seats... I probably waited for half an hour, possibly more. Patrons were leaving, tables were not cleared, some tables were left empty, and others were never split to seat multiple parties of 2. Then after I finally got seated, I had to again line up to order (and pre-pay) at the register... It was a little strange and seemed very inefficient. I'm giving them a benefit of a doubt that this was an off-day, but it seemed like they weren't set up to scale for dine-in patrons. As delicious as the dumplings and baos were, I would not go through that waiting/ordering experience again.

Yelp
So happy I ventured out to Richmond for this place! I live in downtown Vancouver so it was quite a trek to get out here as it's kind of in the middle of nowhere, but my boyfriend and I were determined to have some dumplings. The outside of the restaurant looks a little questionable - it kind of looks like an auto-insurance place with a restaurant's sign stuck in front, but don't let that deter you! The inside is casual and cozy, quite reminiscent of quick-service restaurants in China. As for the food, it's delicious! Probably one of the best places I've tried for dumplings in Vancouver. They taste like homemade dumplings and have a variety of choices. We got the Xiaolongbao, Shengjianbao, veggie wontons, and fish and shrimp dumplings. I don't eat meat but my boyfriend said the xiaolongbao were the best he's had in Vancouver! The fish and shrimp dumplings were very different tasting but in the best way possible. The thicker skin gives it that homemade feel. The veggie wonton weren't my favorite, but that's just personal preference as the mushroom flavor really overpowered everything. Being from China I have had my fair share of dumplings and I'd confidently say this place does them very well.

Yelp
Had the xiao long bao and the tan tan noodles. Both absolutely good. The xlb exploded with reallly flavourful soup and the skin was not too thick, but remained elastic to support the weight of its contents. Great marks of a really skilled chef. The tan tan noodles were delicious and really good value. So glad to have discovered this gem in the heart of an industrial park and my only regret is that it closes so early and is not open weekends, which make it tough to visit as often as I would like.

Yelp
Nothing tastes like the way mama does it This saying applies to every type of cuisine where homecooking is the best and nothing beats the way our mother does it. At Mama's Dumplings, they've brought mama's kitchen to the public to serve you authentic chinese delights from central China. From the different types of baos to dumplings to noodles, this location has got you covered I had some refreshing marinated cucumber as appetizer, then went onto some very juicy pork bun and beef rolls. The hot and sour soup and dumplings lacked some hearty taste though. But overall a very pleasnat restaurant that you should go try!

Jamie L.

Yelp
My favourite thing to get here is the Shanghai style fried noodles. I believe the noodles are hand pulled so they all have an irregular shape, they have a nice chewiness to them and the vegetables add a nice crunch to the dish. The xiao long baos are good, the beef noodle soup is also good and my dad likes their hot and sour soup. The staff are all very friendly and overall really nice place to eat at. The prices have gone up over time, but please don't sway away from this place! Support your local businesses!

Yelp
To say that Mama's is among one of the best places I've had dumplings may be surprising, but in all honesty, it's true. Mama's is tucked inside an industrial area, so it may be easy to miss. Free parking right outside. Inside, it's spacious and has simple decor. Seat yourselves and order up front. I've only had their dumplings here, and they are the best. My favourite is the pork & cilantro, pan fried (add $1.50), and it's worth it. Self-serve water and condiments. I always have the dilemma of gauging how many dumplings I can eat. 12? 16? The dumplings are always perfectly pan fried, with the layer of crispness on the bottom. Inside: hot, flavourful juices are contained within each dumpling. I like to add vinegar and the chili sauce to create the perfect bite. I would like to return to try their pan friend buns and their other dishes. Their lady at the front counter(owner) is also super friendly and always makes sure that you're ok.
