Daddy’s Is Portland’s ’90s-Themed Vegan Pop-Up | Eater Portland

"When I visited Mama Đút for Daddy’s debut pop-up last April, the Vietnamese cafe had been transformed into a glittery pink ’90s set — glittery streamers, an oversized Britney Spears "Oops!... I Did It Again" poster, and a pink Barbie Corvette covered in heart-shaped holographic stickers with sayings like “Eat pussy, not animals!” — with two Ken dolls in the vintage convertible meant to represent the chefs. Mama Đút owner Thuy Pham also offered her cafe as the venue for Daddy’s first pop-up in April 2022, helping launch the concept." - Waz Wu

Google
Hidden Gem for people looking for Indian food. If you are looking for authentic Indian food, this should in your to go list. The place has one of the best parathas and info Chinese food. In hot beverage,Tea was really good option available. The store also has options for Indian grocery shopping. The server was really friendly and nice. The place doesn’t have a good ambiance but they make up for it in terms of taste. Additionally, the seating space is good enough for one big group of 8–10 people so not a big restaurant. Restrooms were available. Parking is available as they have enough space outside.

This spot is a true gem, offering freshly prepared food right in front of us. We stopped by for breakfast this morning and ordered gobi paratha and chole bhature—it instantly brought back memories of homemade meals in India. The flavors were so authentic, with that classic Punjabi touch. Highly recommend, especially with the kind uncle who welcomed us. We will definitely be returning for more breakfast that tastes just like home!

My first time eating Indian cuisine and it was amazing! This butter chicken was mouth watering, and the bread dipping it in that sauce. This was a great experience and the best customer service.

A hidden gem tucked away on Whitehorse pike in NJ, Mamas Indian kitchen & food mart defies easy categorization. Authentic family experience they make you part of, some people may not be use to how much they make it like your home and there’s here but every aspect about it is great! Nothing on the menu will disappoint you This family-owned establishment seamlessly blends authentic Indian cuisine with the practicality of a convenience store and smoke shop. Don't let the unconventional setup fool you – the food here is exceptional and will be the best food you ever ate! The family's dedication shines through in their homestyle Indian cooking. Their vegan chana masala and dal are standouts, proving you don't need dairy for rich, satisfying flavors. The samosas are consistently crispy and generously filled. Open from early morning until late night, you can satisfy your cravings or grab essentials practically any time, they have early and late hours. What makes this place truly special is the warm family atmosphere. Generations work together behind the counter, sharing stories and cooking tips while helping customers navigate both their extensive Indian menu and convenience store offerings. 5/5 stars for bringing together the best of all worlds and doing it with heart.

We tried their puff, chicken chili hoagie and biriyani. The puff was average, the hoagie was good. The biriyani was great. The staff were friendly.

WOW. Just WOW! I have been craving some Indian food but to be honest South Jersey seems to be lacking in ones with authentic, quality flavor. Well I'm glad I came across this and the reviews were right! The guy who answered the phone was very friendly and accommodating and they were willing to make me one of my favorite dishes that wasn't even on the menu (Aloo Palak)! I was blown away from the first bite. FINALLY! Some Indian food with some real spice and flavor! This is the BEST Indian food I have found since leaving my beloved NYC and actually tops the flavor of some spots there as well. I refuse to order Indian from anywhere else again! The food came HOT and TASTY! It hit the spot for my cravings. This food is NOT BLAND and EXTRA mild like other places. It smells and tastes like the real thing. I am stuffed and wish I had room to eat more but will save for another tasty meal! My only suggestion would be to add more filling to the Vegetable Puff as it was 70% pastry and 30% filling. I will probably order the vegetable samosa next time for this reason but wanted to try something new. The Aloo Palak and Rajma (my first time trying this dish were excellent! This is hands down the best Indian food in South Jersey and maybe even the Philadelphia area as well! Keep it up MAMA's Indian! The food truly does taste like it's cooked with a Mother's love from the heart. I will recommend this place to others. Thank you for brightening up what was a not so fun day with this wonderful meal. 5/5

Google
After long time I found a place where food was very homely. If you have traveled to Punjab in your life, food at this place will refresh your memories. Quality of food was really really very good. I could see that family was involved in kitchen and there were personal touches to food that every Indian foodie will appreciate. Initially when I saw a small store with few tables, my first thought was oh my god, did I chose right place? But as soon as food came in, I remembered old saying, 'did judge the book by its cover'. Goat biryani was so deeply cooked that when I ate rice, I could taste melted goat in it. Chicken Kadai was same way. Meat was coming off the bones as soon as you touch it. Thanks for serving great food at great price. Please keep maintaining this quality and you will see continues satisfied customers for years. I already recommended your place to my Punjabi friend in the area and I'll definitely visit your place again when I'm in NJ.

Google
I don’t have a lot of experience with Indian cuisine but I imagine it’ll be hard to find a better chicken curry. The garlic naan was also incredible. Next time I’m back in the area I will be stopping by.

Yelp
The phrase "hidden gem" must have been invented for Mama's! Inside the cleanest store I've ever seen, you've got spectacular Indian takeout hiding in plain sight. The owners are kind, patient, friendly and helpful. And the food is easily among the best in the area. (Also, parking is easy and our order was ready very quickly.) For our first visit, we went all-out: chicken curry, butter chicken, garlic naan, cornmeal roti, samosas, mint lassi, and mango kulfi. Everything was spectacular - and I'll be dreaming of that mint lassi all summer! We can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Some of the greatest chicken you can find and boy their biscuits are on another level. Everything is cooked fresh to order. You can go wrong with this place. If you like Indian food it is worth the travel. The speed of the service is expected for made to order but faster than normal if you get in before everyone else. The environment is great, plus while you are waiting you can buy stuff on the conscience store side.

Yelp
Today being Labor Day Monday many places were closed and also those didn't were closing at 6 pm. I had conference meeting on Tuesday and had to be in CherryHill NJ a night before. Yelp came to rescue to find nearby food places snd needed to eat Indian hot spicy food. We found Mama's Indian kitchen and made a phone call to see if they are open for fast takeout food. Yep that person answering the call mentioned if we ordered now then we can pickup the food. So I asked them quick items like Samosas - fried fritters most popular item for vegetarians mostly made up of mashed potatoes with green peas spiced up filled in triangles made up of whole wheat flour fried to Golden crispy color. Also Stuffed Paratha- again two layers of whole wheat flour flat tortillas stuffed with choice of cauliflower/ potatoes/ broccoli and plain with no stuffing.. fried in butter/ oil to crispiness.. Well we picked two varieties . Also Bombay Bhel which is favorite variety from Bombay.. puffed rice sautéed alongside SEV - thin noodles made up of yellow lentils flour with various shaped other noodles.. with pieces of baked potatoes/ onions / green peppers etc mixed with sweet sour date and tamarind chutney.. unusual crunchy feeling like crispy cereal.. for crunchiness.. That was ordered and while we reached this location we realized that it was a convenience store .. with Indian Kitchen items along with Krishpy yes Krishpy branded chicken fingers .. They also had Coca-Cola bottles filled in Mexico!! I had tried them at Blaze pizza restaurant in Rochester NY area and really liked them. Since we were hungry and saw that they had two large Sufism clothed tables.. we requested if we could eat all items ordered there -the manager allowed us to have use of the facility even though they were closed by then. Food was prepared while we waited and it was really worth it. It was really prepared by the managers Mama hence Mama's Indian kitchen.. Taste as well as prepared food was really amazing and loved it .. If I ever come by this area I would definitely stop here .. it's not classy but had a outdoor eating feel.. Only drawback was after we left our cloths carried the fried food aroma or smell with it... Needed some favorite perfume to douse it at..

Yelp
This place has good reviews here and on Google, so I went for it. Not my best idea. The paneer tikka hoagie was so bad that I threw it out. Soggy roll with sliced uncooked paneer and an inedible sauce squirted on it. The vegetarian noodles were fine but nothing to write home about. The spicy fries were basically just crab fries and the chili paneer was weirdly sweet.

Yelp
Best potato wedges around. This is a small place inside a convenience store selling Indian food and fried chicken. They are very nice and the food is very good.

Yelp
Best Samosa chaat I've had in a while. Looks a little sketchy since it's near a gas station but don't let it fool you!

Yelp
Ordered the Chili Chicken, Butter Chicken & Jeera rice. All 3 were so good, some of the best I've had around this area. Both chicken dishes were spicy but not too spicy. I will definitely be ordering from here again

Yelp
Delicious, authentically flavored Indian food here. They make their food from the heart. Mama's is family-owned and although they're new, they seem to be doing things right.

Yelp
We ordered the butter chicken, garlic naan, roti, samosa chaat, and channa masala and had it delivered. The food, which was hot and arrived quickly, was phenomenal, and we have tried all of the other local Indian restaurants. The price and spice, as well as the quality and quantity are unbeatable. This is the only place we will go to from now on!

Yelp
My husband brought home the biggest, Juiciest, Cajun chicken tenders I've ever had. In addition to this sauce they make?! AMAZING. he also said the service was amazing.

Yelp
Terrible! We purchased from their table at the Holi Festival in JC after walking with the Color group 2 miles. Food was almost ice cold after ordering it 22minutes! The girl dumped what was on my plate back into the bins & said just a few more minutes. I came back 10 minutes later & was given cold food AGAIN. I told her touch the bottom of the plate & she did, then rudely put all the food back in the bins in front of a line of upset people waiting. Over 30 minutes of waiting I demanded my money back! Be prepared with food ready to go at a Festival that started at 12pm & you all were still unpacking at that time.

Yelp
A convenience store/restaurant similar to ones you find all over India. Don't let the casual retail environment fool you; the food is amazing, fresh, and highly authentic. This was a perfect place to walk to (through an admittedly ugly neighborhood) and eat at while waiting for our electric car to charge at the Walmart Electrify America charging station.

Yelp
First time this popped up on my Yelp feed and figured we'd give it a try. Definitely glad we did. Got the butter chicken, chicken tikka, dahl makani and a few other standard dishes. Authentic and delicious. Definitely be back.

Yelp
A hidden gem! This place reminded me of "dhaba" food from India. Authentic, clean, fresh..just like mom's food. All the food we ordered was amazing that we forgot to take the picture.

Amber C.

Yelp
I would not recommend. Very unsanitary. I was doing an Uber Eats order & had to cancel b/c the cook was sneezing & coughing all over the food while cooking It w/ NO GLOVES & not covering mouth! Another Uber Driver was already waiting 20 mins for their pick-up order.

Yelp
The butter chicken was delicious and the staff were extremely friendly! Will definitely go back soon to try other selections!

Yelp
All of the items I ordered were absolutely Delicious! The Chilli Chicken, Chicken Tikka Hoagie, Paneer Pakoras, freshly prepared, perfectly packaged to go. The owners are very friendly and sweet -- excellent customer service. It was really nice to see how the family was helping Mama in the kitchen, too. The kitchen is a part of their convenience store, but looked clean and tidy. Hope they continue providing the same level of quality, taste, and service in the future. I will definitely order from here again and write an update.

Yelp
Samosa Chat is the one I liked . Try samosa chat from the menu if you visit here. Tasted fresh. You can see that poor mum work so hard cooking

Yelp
Words cannot describe the love that goes into their food! EVERYTHING is made fresh from scratch with mama's love! The best part is you can watch her make her paranthas too! Sorry I ha e no pictures, we were too excited to eat.

Shail S.

Yelp
One of the best places to get home cooked North Indian food. Fresh and delicious. Started getting food since past two months and have been going back for more.
