This place is great, the staff & volunteers put together and deliver meals to those who are living with H.I.V / Aids etc. During the holidays they sell pies and etc and will help out those in need.

The main reason this wasnt a 3 star review is because of the people. They are always friendly and helpful and on time or a little early. My two main issues is the quality of the fruit, which like others in the reviews here have always left fruitflies. Since my first delivery, I have not been able to get rid of them and they are ALWAYS around and drive me nuts. I'll have to bomb my house this weekend in hopes that'll get rid of them. I hate doing this but now i just give the fruit away to the homeless in my neighborhood. The second is the same old food every week. Mainly the pastas and the hardboiled eggs and pita and hummus. After a while it feels like im forgotten about and the monotonous menu is so bland sometimes and disappointing. Im not expecting cuisine every time but step it up. That's not to say every once in a while we arent gifted with something more savory. THis is also not to say I don't appreciate what they are doing, there are days when I have no food and this is all I have and it saves the day. An extra milk per delivery wouldn't hurt either. Thank you for all you do.

I am so so happy to have these wonderful people in my neighborhood! However…PLEASE STOP MAKING U TURNS AS A MEANS TO FORGO DRIVING TO CORNER AND DOING IT THERE. I HAVE ASKED SEVERAL PEOPLE IN THE NICEST POSSIBLE WAY (And you know who you are), WHOM I HAVE ALMOST HIT MIND YOU, TO STOP DOING THIS AS SOMEONE TURNING RIGHT THERE IS GOING TO HIT ONE OF YOU AT SOME POINT. So please, please, please stop doing this before someone gets hurt. Thanks from one of your fellow neighbors and supporters.

Yelp
This year, I planned on a low-key Thanksgiving. No family. No friends. Just eating and doing whatever I wanted without the hassle of cooking or dressing up! Mama's Kitchen makes it easy with their annual pie sales. I didn't order in time and missed out on dutch apple and the "mystery pie." But I got an apple and a pumpkin. Luckily they had my number from the online order. I got a text to pick up my pies at 4. I had totally forgotten! LOL! The staff is great and it's a great organization to support! Next year I'll order earlier! Happy Thanksgiving!

Yelp
Awesome food delivered. Flexible with respect to special diets(i do not know how flexible personally). Also, varieties of meals which allow me to try new foods that i would not purchase at the grocery store because of my tunnel vision and sticking to my shopping list. Back to the awesome staff who genuinely show concern as well as Zack(delivery guy, good job Zack), the other delivery guy(I believe his name is Kevin D. good job Kevin). The staff checks up on clients by phone to make sure things are going well. If you have one of the conditions that constitute the need for this supplemental food supply then this is definitely worth considering. Good job Stephanie as well as the ladies whose name escapes me presently.

Yelp
My company gives us the opportunity to do paid volunteering at this great organization. I love coming to Mama's Kitchen because the volunteer work of putting food bags together is something that the next volunteer can pick up from where I ended. The meals that are made really look delish and are healthy choices. You know you are helping people eat better and possibly refer people to the organization who can benefit from their services. Def do recommend this organization for volunteer opportunities or donations. Can't wait for the annual Thanksgiving pie sale! Great pies for a great cause!

Yelp
I've been a volunteer for Mamas Kitchen for 9 years now and I'm very proud to be a part of this amazing organization. They 100% do their very best to support and feed the critical ill in the San Diego community. Looking at some of the reviews not everybody is happy but such is YELP. My review is not paid for or requested by anybody. Nobody has been told that there would be free food with no requirements. Mamas Kitchen does not just serve with HIV but also do other critical illnesses. I just wanted to post to clear up the miss information.

Yelp
Called and drove over 30 minutes here after being told they offered free food with no requirements. Showed up and was turned away and not given a single item because I don't have HIV. They ONLY serve people with HIV and refuse people with other disabilities. So sad.

Yelp
They don't help you if your on dialysis over a year ... That's unfortunate because people that have been on dialysis over a year still need help... Being on dialysis is not easy and there is no services out there to help.

Yelp
Yelp 100 challenge 2015 mamas kitchen is a non profit that helps people that are in the need of food...they go to their homes. When we volunteered we were putting broccoli, carrots, and celery in bags. We also did yogurt covered pretzels too. They also have a food pantry as well. They have lots of volunteer hours so if you like I believe you can go to their website.

Yelp
I was watching the news in the morning, a couple days before Thanksgiving and saw that Mama's Kitchen was doing a fundraiser called Pies in the Sky! I've heard nothing but great things about Mama's Kitchen and how they serve meals to those in need. Since there was a special request for an apple crumble pie for Thanksgiving, I went online and ordered one! What was great about the fundraiser was there were over 20 places where you could pick the pie up around the county on Wed, between 10 and 4! So I selected a place close to where I'd be doing some errands! The pie....it was a hit at dinner!! It was gone in seconds!! I love that my family could eat something so delicious and help others who are less fortunate at the same time! Now that I know about Pies in the Sky, I'll be ordering all my pies from Mama's Kitchen from now on!

Yelp
What's not to love about a Local Charity with a Noble mission with great staff at the helm!!! :) I found this place three years ago while looking to volunteer and just do some good and I've come back every year to participate in the yearly, "Pies in the Sky" thanksgiving pie sale drive. $25 a pie with 100% of processed going to feed 7 meals to homeless and those afflicted with AIDS whom otherwise wouldn't have access to healthy meals. If you'd like a pie...contact me before Thanksgiving or head to their website for next years event. Pies are shipped in from local small and big bakers who donate throughout San Diego County. My fave is the Pecan!!!!!!!! So basically if you're looking to volunteer and feel the love, try Mamas Kitchen. You'll adore it!

Yelp
I had heard about this place in passing but to be honest I never researched it until my daughter needed to do community service at a non profit organization. Among the numerous organizations around San Diego, this place caught my eye. My daughter called and set up an orientation session for us to go to, to find out about the organization's volunteer opportunities. From the exterior of the building, there is not much to see. However, when you enter there is a small city of dedicated volunteers cooking, baking, packing large bags full of non perishable food, preparing and putting together hot meals in containers, printing out names and addresses of needy clients, and others waiting to get their neighborhood information in order to go deliver the food. The criteria for clients for mama's kitchen services are outlined on this site: http://www.mamaskitchen.org/clientservices/criticalillness.php Suffice to say, in San Diego county and outlying areas, there are many MANY needy people. There is also mama's pantry http://www.mamaskitchen.org/clientservices/mamaspantry.php for those not in need of delivery services but require occasional nutrition support to maintain their health and stretch their food budget. The clients are eligible to visit the panytry and select their own non-perishable items such as cereals, pastas and canned goods from a wide selection. This organization raises money and other necessities through food drives, events, and private donations. My daughter has met her volunteer hours requirement, however, I know I am definetely continuing to volunteer my time as I can. For areas near downtown, volunteers pick up the bags of food and hot meals at the kitchen and receive a list and map quest for the entire route they are assigned to. For other areas, north and south county, volunteers will meet at designated pick up sites to keep the meals available all over san diego. So far we have delivered to North Park and Escondido. Both areas are, in all honesty, filled with people who need and appreciate this service. We have never not received a warm greeting from any client, a thank you, and a smile. It is well worth my time. It will be well worth anyone's time who would like to volunteer. Honestly

Yelp
Mama's is the best of the best when it comes to service and care.. Anne in the kitchen is a master of creating foods that the clients and Families love .. I cannot say enough about all the staff and Volunteers ... I invite anyone reading this to become involved either with money or time.. they can always use both.. Check them out at www.mamaskitchen.org I have been involved now for over 13 years and very proud of this non profit..

Yelp
Its commendable what this organization is doing. As a matter of fact I'm seriously considering doing some volunteer work for them. I usually have free time on weekend mornings and possibly certain weeknights.I should check out their website and get some info.

Yelp
great home cookin with honest ingredients. Judy, "the beauty on duty," is the coolest person in San Diego and her humble restaurant lives up to her reputation. This is comfort food for me.

Yelp
The home delivery meals meet the bare requirements for sustaining life. There is nothing homey about the meals it's more like institution food. Most of the items were instand and microwavable. The hot meals were not identifiable. We could not tell if it was pasta or chicken but there was a sticker on the package that said eat before expiration date which was the very next day. There was not enough healthy ingredients to sustain a healthy immune system let alone someone who is ailing. For instance the Cranberry juice in a carton has 30 grams of sugar. The fruit was sparse and bannanas were bad. Quite frankly, I've seen better meals provided at missions and homeless outreaches. It was very sad to see the disappointment on the face of the person I am a care taker to, he was obviously let down when he saw the food and refused to continue with the service.
