Mama's On The Hill

We tried Mama’s on the Hill for the first time tonight and it was absolutely delicious. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and made with real care. You can tell this is the kind of place that takes pride in their food and their reputation. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the service was friendly and attentive. It truly felt like a classic St. Louis Italian dining experience. Every bite reminded us why this place has such a great name in the city. We will definitely be coming back to try more of the menu. Highly recommend Mama’s on the Hill if you’re looking for authentic, comforting Italian food in St. Louis!

I've always wanted to try one of the local Italian restaurants in the iconic Hill neighborhood of St. Louis and this one definitely didn't disappoint. It was so delicious and the pricing was good as well. I highly recommend this spot! We got the toasted ravioli which is a must in St. Louis and we also shared a portion of the fettuccine alfredo with chicken and the serving sizes are very large. We didn't even finish our split portions so a very good value for money. You definitely don't leave hungry.

Located on THE HILL,another of many Italian restaurants. This located by many other restaurants in the middle of the hill so close parling is luck of the draw.Its on street parking and I have a big truck and ended up about 3 blocks away.No big deal I expected that. We had 530 reservations and was sat just before time.The waiter was quick and attentive.We had lasagna which was huge portion.and I had a ribeye steak with some type of gravy and Italian potatoes. The food came quick and hot.We were in and out in 30 mins. Unbelievably fast,but didn't ever feel rushed.RECOMMEND!!

DELICIOUS!! While visiting St. Louis, we were told to eat in The Hill part of town. I found this place with good reviews, so we tried it. SO glad we did! We got the toasted ravioli - it’s got a nice toasted crispness to it, and I loved the marinara sauce! We also got the Gabriela (thinly sliced and breaded veal on pasta) and the Roasted Red Pepper ravioli with red pepper cream sauce - both were amazing and recommended by our server. Our server, Krissy M, was friendly, helpful, and fun. The ambiance is cozy. I highly recommend this place - and who couldn’t love the restaurant’s name?!

Really had a great experience here! We are a group of 6 that just hop at St Lou for a day trip. Heard this from a lot of friends and definitely worth the hype. We ordered the pastas and raviolis and all are superb. Will definitely come back.

Visiting St. Louis, my wife and I wanted to eat lunch at a highly rated restaurant -- and Mama's fit the bill well. We were lucky to arrive at a good time between waves of people and were seated immediately even though we didn't have reservations. Having heard about their Toasted Ravioli specialty, we made that our choice for an appetizer. We got them as half cheese and half meat -- liked the meat and loved the cheese! Then we split a Caprese Salad and a Lobster Ravioli entree; both were delicious! The salad was fresh and flavorful. The entree had nice amounts of seafood in the ravioli and mixed into the sauce. Our server was friendly and helpful, even though he had several tables to deal with all at once. In addition, we liked the interior ambiance as well as the exterior look of the restaurant.

So authentic, I truly had a hard time not thinking I was back in the northeast at a sweet Italian grandmother’s house. The service was so touching, they truly treat everyone like family! They were comfortably full, just a quick 30 minute wait which isn’t bad for a Saturday night and the staff do not rush at all! The food is the best you can find over here and I was stunned at how reasonable the prices are! Look up the story behind the house that’s now the restaurant… Only slight preference, not on them bc it’s simply preference thing…the crust on the pizza seemed like a crispy tortilla not actual high gluten bread dough. The toppings were soooo authentic to what I grew up on in Philly, the Italian sausage put me right back in my Italian friend’s house but yeah, I simply was not a fan of the super crazy thin crispy crust. They sell a ton of them so that must be on me:-)

This little Italian gem on The Hill is absolutely wonderful! The restaurant has such a quaint and cozy atmosphere, perfectly fitting for St. Louis’s charming Italian district. From the moment we walked in, the service was warm, attentive, and welcoming — you can really tell they care about their guests. The food was incredible — every dish was full of flavor, beautifully prepared, and authentically Italian. You can taste the love and tradition in every bite. Whether it’s the pasta, the sauces, or dessert, everything was top-notch. It’s the perfect spot for a romantic dinner, family gathering, or a relaxed evening out with friends. I can’t recommend this place enough — amazing food, exceptional service, and a true taste of The Hill!

Really good Italian food! We came during lunch, before the lunch rush and it was already packed. When we left there were more people that came too. We got the sampler platter and it came with a mix of calamari, deep fried ravioli, and stuffed mushrooms. It was huge. This could easily be a sampler for 4-6! There were only 2 of us. We had to box it up to go. The calamari had these fried peppercinis and it was good fried because it provided a sour and spicy taste to all the fried. Then we shared the mussels and clams pasta. It was amazing. The best mussels and clams pasta I've had. It is super rich though with a lot of oils and salt near the end. I enjoyed it. I really wished they could do half orders, we wanted another pasta but couldn't get it because we knew it was going to be a lot. And didn't have refrigeration for it to last. Totally recommend!

This is a great restaurant option on the hill! I think it would be great for big groups since the menu is so large and could appeal to everyone's pallette. We got the polllo spedini and modiga and they were so delicious. We also ordered the salad and the dressing is to die for, I could have had just that and been happy. Service was speedy and efficient. We ended up waiting at the bar for a table to open up and everyone was really friendly and it took no time at all for a table to free up.

Great authentic Italian food! I had the lasagna and it was amazing! The perfect blend of herbs and spices. The Italian sausage was great as well. I also had the raspberry Italian soda which was very good. They close at 9:00pm during the week day. We arrived at 8:30 and even though the restaurant was packed we didn't have a long wait. They have homemade bread that is served warm with olive oil and also butter if you prefer. The restaurant is medium sized with nice furnishings. Parking is on the street so keep that in mind if you go during peak lunch and dinner times.

My husband and I enjoyed Mamas on the Hill for a romantic evening on a Sunday. This place was packed. Thankfully we had reservations. We were seated downstairs. The staircase going down was very narrow. Only one person could go up or down. The lower level was completely full. I noticed that the only emergency exit door had a table blocking it from the inside. With this dining area below grade level knowing all the ways out is a big deal. It took a while for our server to get our drink order, but she was very nice and knew the menu very well. We shared an order of calamari. Really large portion and really good. I went with the chicken Marsala and it was very good. When we left I was disappointed to see that there was a blanket blocking the outside of the emergency exit door. Not good. If you go, make sure you sit upstairs!

Took a friend for lunch. Service was quick. The salad was delicious. My meal was okay. That wasn't the fault of the restaurant, I just didn't care for the preparation of the eggplant parm. Otherwise, great experience.

While the food at mamas was good, and the ambiance was a classic Italian restaurant vibe with very homey decor and calm lighting, I don't know that I would go back. The food quality did not justify the steep prices, and the service made me feel just a little off. I didn't feel as comfortable or welcome asking questions about the menu as I would've hoped. The toasted ravs were truly delightful and probably the best part of the whole experience.

I was not impressed by Mama's On the Hill. We had a large group which can be overwhelming, but our waitress was rather rude and short with everyone. In my opinion, the food was just meh; there are definitely better Italian options around. That said, maybe I didn't get the right thing(s) because the menu was HUGE - so many dishes to choose from.

Mama's On the Hill was an absolute joy to experience. An Italian Staple located at the Hill of STL. So far, my absolute favorite restaurant that serves up hearty Italian Food. 1. Lasagna was absolutely delicious. Baked bites of Heaven 2. Highly recommend the toasted Ravioli 3. Cheese Sticks were so gooey The intimate setting, the ambiance, and the amazing service as well as Italian Food. Huge plus for Gluten Free Pasta. Celebrated 2 Birthdays! In love with the entire vibes and my meal.

We came here for my brothers birthday lunch. There was only one other table there so it was a nice quiet environment and we got quick service. Our server was nice and attentive. I got the penne Ala vodka. I will say the sauce consistency was a bit unique but the flavor was really good and I enjoyed it! My husband got the seafood linguine. He didn't like that the lobster was in a shell still. But he said it was overall just okay. My mom got the cannelloni and liked it. My brother got the penne carbonara and liked it!

First time visiting St.Louis so I was excited about the famous Toasted Raviolis. There's no place can be more authentic than the restaurants that located in the Italian neighborhood. The toasted raviolis were tasty, crunchy on the outside and beef filling was flavorful, topping with some marinara sauce, delicious! The Cannelloni Lunch was also delicious, served in a hot plate just came out of oven. I wished the portion were larger tho! Service was decent I'll say, but it took way too much time for me to get my check, I waited 15 minutes so they can find the waiter, then he throw the tab on my table when I talked about it.

Hands down one of the best Italian restaurants I've been to! We went on a Saturday afternoon just around noon and luckily did not have a wait, but it got really busy right after so there were a few parties waiting outside when we left. To start, the bread with the olive oil they brought was so good! My friend and I ordered the combo platter appetizer and an order of the linguine with clams and mussels to share, and it was so much food! The combo platter comes with calamari, toasted ravioli and stuffed mushrooms, and all were amazing! There was an insane amount of calamari, which was nice and light and flavored well. The toasted ravioli was good and the stuffed mushrooms were a balanced cheesy concoction of perfection - beware of how hot it is though! Mushrooms and melted cheese hold a lot of heat! One suggestion would be to do a little more toasted ravioli and a little less calamari. The linguini was so good with the light and buttery sauce, not too bland and not too salty like other places. I'm still thinking about it days later! The staff was super friendly, service was quick, and it was a really homey spot, just like walking into an Italian aunties home! Be sure to add this to your list of food must haves when in St, Louis!

My husband and I came here for dinner while we were on a trip to St. Louis, and we were absolutely impressed by the amazing food and attentive, friendly waiter. After we were seated, we noticed how cute and clean the dining room was. It felt very comfortable and homey, and it gave such romantic dinner vibes. It wasn't very busy when we arrived, but the table behind me had people seated, and I noticed how close the tables were together. We had to move the table a little bit further from them because I would have been right up against a woman's chair if we didn't. The restaurant gave the table a basket of soft, fresh Italian bread that you can dip in oil and cheese; I ate the whole thing on my own. Everything was fresh, and it gave me a good first impression of how the rest of their food must taste and what was to come of our meal. For my drink, I ordered a glass of wine, and then for an appetizer, my husband and I shared the "Baked Meatballs" for 2 people ($9.99). I am normally not a huge fan of meatballs unless my grandma made them, but these were to die for. They melted in your mouth, and the meat and cheese just blended so well to create a perfect texture and taste. My husband and I were both impressed because you can tell they were homemade and fresh, which is hard to come by at an Italian restaurant, especially in Chicago. For entrees, I ordered the "Penne Arrabiata" ($20.99). This was amazing and so spicy! The bowl was overflowing with pasta and meat sauce, and it was very satisfying and filling. I would order this again if I ever returned! My husband ordered the "Pollo Saltimbocca" ($24.99). This was chicken breast in a creamy mushroom sauce with cheese and prosciutto on top. He LOVED his meal and was pleased by how authentic his meal was, as well. To end our meal, we shared a cannoli. I don't remember how much it was, but it could have been a million dollars because that's how much I think it was worth. It was delicious and perfectly filled. Ultimately, if you couldn't already guess, we can't say enough good things about Mama's. We 100% recommend it, and if we take another trip to St. Louis, we will be back!

A great dinner on a summer evening. Parking is standard Hill. Find something on the street. Parallel park. I lucked out and found an opening nearby. Had reservations at 6:45 and we had a few in line before us. Was offered outside seating and was seated immediately! It was warm out, but it wasn't too warm and outside seating was full! Had a Diet Pepsi. Large cup. Thank you!!! The toasted ravs, you can get half cheese and half meat. These were great and I want more. My fav was the meat but that's just preference. Got the Caesar no cheese. There was quite a bit of dressing and I personally like more croutons. It was good. But not a must get. Went with the spaghetti and meatballs. Great dish and glad I got it. Great flavor on the meatball, good texture. The spaghetti sauce was a good balance. Got tiramisu to go and it was so good! Great service and plenty to take home for leftovers!

I went here as part of a food tour. They were known for their toasted raviolis. They also served traditional Italian dishes with a full-service bar. I had the toasted ravioli. It was served with a homemade marinara sauce. The ravioli were small and stuffed with a meat filing. They were fried and filled appropriately. I just did not like the fried aspect of these. The meat filling was good, but just not the actual ravioli. The crunch factor of the ravioli just did not get it done for me. The marinara sauce was light and flavorful. Will I go back? Probably.

My perfect Italian meal with 8 friends at Mama's On The Hill... Menu: Antipasto Platter (cured meat, cheeses, artichokes, marinated red peppers, olives, fresh tomatoes); Caesar Salad w/house dressing; Lobster Ravioli and Melanzane Parmagiano; Vitelli Saltimbocca and Sole Bianco; Spumoni and Tiramisu with coffees; and of course red and white wine based on preferences. Don't order individually; order for the table; serve it family style; and keep the dishes coming in stages. This is so much fun and the group will chat up a storm, but Mama's won't boot you out. Because Italian families love to celebrate their time together, and the noise level is proof that you are relaxed and happy. Buon Appetito!

Wowza, had some incredible fare on the hill compliments of Mama's. Overall, some incredible heat. We rolled with the calamari, penne carbonara, and pollo modiga. The calamari portion was generous. And, there is nothing better than some nice, crispy banana peppers mixed in. The breading was light, had a solid saltiness, and was crispy. It was wonderful. The calamari was tender and buttery. A wonderful opener. For the mains, the carbonara was my favorite. It was insanely rich and creamy. I love carbonara and this was the one. It was loaded with pancetta, and swimming in the sauce. The grated pecorino atop gave it a great texture. A must order. The pollo modiga was good, too. It was not a must order, but still enjoyed it. The white wine sauce gives a nice acidity. The cutlet was cooked well. Of course the breading loses the crispiness in the sauce and with the cheese. This was also loaded with bacon and the mushrooms were a great addition. An insanely rich dish that was very enjoyable. The bread service left something to be desired. The bread was just room temperature and served with butter packets. The bread itself was not anything special, just a generic starter bread. Lastly, we had a reservation for 6:45, and they have a 15 minute grace period. We were running a few minutes late, but made it within the window. But, we had to wait until about 7:30 to get seated. Not a huge deal as we were a few minutes late, so our fault to some extent, but having to wait an extra 40 minutes seemed like a long time.

We celebrated our 30th anniversary here on a recent Saturday night. We were visiting St. Louis for the first time and Yelp reviews helped us pick this location. Service was excellent and prompt. When we walked in we found ourselves in a very lively atmosphere with all tables full of interesting people having a great time. I ordered the lasagna and it was HUGE and fun of meat, tender noodles and yummy mozzarella melted to perfection. My partner thoroughly enjoyed the seafood linguine with a creamy sauce. The portions were so large that we neither made much of a dent! Our waitress brought us a beautiful complimentary dessert to add to our celebration. We did finish that!!! If you're visiting there are so many great restaurants to choose from in the eclectic neighborhoods of St. Louis. You can't go wrong with Mama's.

You know of all the places I have eaten at on The Hill this happens to fall on the lower tier. My wife, along with my parents, and myself stopped in a few weeks ago for a late lunch. Everyone in our party thought the bread was not fresh and two of the four thought their meals were a bit bland. Our server was friendly and I always enjoy the ambiance at restaurants on The Hill; just a bit of a downer on the cuisine!

One of our favorite places in the area! It's been about year since we have been in the area and we were excited to eat here again! As expected, it did not disappoint. It is always delicious and quite authentic. The service is excellent. The restaurant is just a comfortable casual setting that makes you feel at ease. Perfect for date nights or gathering with family and friends. Finding parking can be a bit of challenge but, it is a small inconvenience. It's a great neighborhood!

Amazing pasta dinner!! I went with my mom and we both got espresso martinis to drink. They brought out bread and oil to start. We got the original toasted ravioli as our appetizer and it was amazing!! We got the mamas house salad that had a balsamic Italian dressing that is made in house. We split the penne carbonara. There was a small charge to split the entree, but they brought it out on two separate plates which made it perfect for sharing! We each got our own portion and it was more than enough. The service was fast and we only had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated once we put our name in with the hostess.

My family ate here on a week day for lunch. The place was probably half full and fairly quiet. We were seated immediately. Our service was pretty good for having 6 people eating. I ordered the seafood linguine, which was ok. It wasn't anything special unfortunately. My wife got the penne ala vodka, which she really enjoyed. My mother in law got the cannelloni, which she really liked. My brother in law got the penne carbonara which was excellent! All and it was small, intimate, quiet place for a date night or quick lunch. We enjoyed it! We recommend stopping by when on the hill!

My dinner companion and I have been eating on The Hill for over 30 years. Our dinner last night has to be the worst either of us has ever eaten in that time. She had the tortellini and I chose the artichoke chicken. The sauce on the tortellini was very watery with little flavor. While my chicken was very tender and there were plenty of artichokes, the sauce on it was almost tasteless. The salad was fine, the Italian bread served warm with both butter or olive oil but my side dish of pasta with red sauce was very bland. The pour of pinot grigio was generous and the service was fine. We will not eat here again as there are too many other excellent choices on The Hill. Such a disappointment!

Mama's on the Hill is one of the most popular Italian restaurants in the Hill neighborhood. It has that classic ambiance of an established Italian family dining room. Simple eligance, but not "white-tablecloth" stuffy. We made reservation on a Tuesday night, but might not have needed it on this night. We were seated promptly, and service was good. We started with the Toasted Ravioli and Calamari appetizers. Toasted Ravioli is a St Louis regional dish that I had heard about, but I had never tried before now. The cheese filled raviolis are fried to a crisp, golden brown and dusted with Parmesan cheese. They are served with marinara sauce for dipping. They were pretty good and addictive. The fried Calamari was very good. Lightly fried, and not greasy at all. The portion was huge. With two large appetizers, our party of four decided to share two entries. We chose the Melanzana Parmigiana (Eggplant Parmigiana) and the Linguini Diablo. The Melanzana Parmigiana was good although the bigger slices of eggplant were either not cooked enough to soften or the eggplant was not quite ripe. This dish was served with a side of shell pasta. The Linguini Diablo was a nice combination of shellfish (shrimp, scallops, mussels) is a spicy marinra sauce. I thought the sauce was very good and spiciness had a nice kick. This dish was served with a side salad, and the salad with homemade dressing was outstanding.

Now, don't get me wrong, this place has great ambiance and the aroma of Italian cooking is inviting. We did have a large party and they had to place us in the tightest corner. It was not comfortable and was a bit claustrophobic for those of us against the wall. The house salad was good, but I could have used more dressing especially since I didn't order a salad, but didn't want to send it back since they were so busy. My manicotti was delicious and the other meals everyone enjoyed. When it came time to pay we could only make four equal payments. This was very difficult for a large party. I know with technology today, thus could be looked at as a policy. It isn't fair for those who have a smaller family within the group or someone who is single. I worked in this industry and I still feel this could be reevaluated. My cocktail was delicious and I know we will return, but with a much smaller group.

Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with the pizza from Mama's on the Hill. It was our first and last time ordering their pizza. This is what we didn't like: --There was almost no crust. In fact, there was so little crust that it was hard to pick up a piece. --There was way too much cheese. --There was almost no sauce. The rest of their food might be wonderful, but we sure didn't like the pizza.

The food was delicious! The ingredients were so fresh and flavorful. They have a great wine selection. The service was great. We sat outside on the patio and it was perfect. Highly recommend trying this place out!

Food was fantastic. Enjoyed the red pepper ravioli. My special lady friend had the seafood linguine gluten free. It was awesome. Great wine selection. Service was prompt and courteous. All in all a great night out.

We came in on a Friday and the place was super busy! We even made reservations but still had to wait for about 5 minutes before we were seated. In the meantime, we sat at the bar and I got a drink but as soon as I took a sip of my wine, our table was ready. Our waiter was friendly but as I said, they were very busy so he also seemed to be rushing around. The menu is quite large that even if you're not a fan of pasta, there should be something for you to enjoy. We started with the raviolis for appetizers. They were delicious. For my main, I ordered the Azzos Mahi, which was lightly breaded with flour and Cajun seasoning served atop linguini noodles, cream sauce, onions, sundried tomatoes and spinach. So good! I had my leftover the very next day as well because their portions are quite generous. My husband had the baked lasagna. He was also brought a very generous portion of it that he was able to enjoy another meal as well. I asked to get my dessert to go because I was too full. I had the cannoli, which did not disappoint even after a night in the fridge. The place is nice with some patio seating options for when you are trying to enjoy the beautiful weather. The bar, while on the smaller side had several seats. On a busy night such as when we decided to dine there, a line could form outside but the staff seem to manage well with table turnovers and efficient service. No complaints from this diner! I cannot wait to come back and try their other amazing fares!

We came to St Louis for a conference. Mama's was recommended to us. The service was professional and friendly. The wines were delicious. We tried STL's famous food: Toasted Ravioli - some filled with cheese and some with meat. Yum. Enjoyed my pasta too. Homey atmosphere. The place was packed in a Monday.

Mama's is a very lovely spot for dinner with friends, family or a date--everyone knows it too (especially on a Saturday night, so make a reservation). When you make your reservation, I'd recommend requesting seating upstairs which is a much nicer experience than the basement. Mama's has a great wine list although this time around I tried their version of a cosmopolitan--very good & sweet but I'll likely go with wine next time around. For the meal, my date and I enjoyed a meatball appetizer (delicious), I had manicotti for my main (dreamy) & he had Penne Arrabiata which is spicy! My date was actively sweating while eating it but swore it was delicious. I took his word for it haha. Only challenge for this visit was that we had inattentive staff. It was a busy Saturday so I totally understand, but when it takes 20+ minutes for staff to even come by your table for a drink order to start, it's not my favorite thing. Regardless, when we did engage with staff they were very kind & our food came out fairly quick even with the busy restaurant. I'll certainly be back in the future.

There is honestly not enough good things I can say for this place one word just comes to mind AMAZING omg I can't wait to come back to this place this place had the best loaded bread I ever had and the calamari was cooked with perfection and the taste was so balanced the location is good gives you that little Italy vibe . We sat down below which felt intimate and our waiter was pleasant to work with I ordered a salmon as well and the piece was really big I will def be coming back , the food came out fair quickly after ordering I would say about 10-15 minutes everything was nice and fresh

We came here for an early dinner on a Saturday afternoon and it was already very busy. But only had to wait 20ish minutes to be seated, which wasn't too bad. The location also has a bar where you can wait while a table opens up. The inside of the restaurant has a very retro look, looks great! They have a vast menu a several vegetarian options too! I ordered a caprese salad to start, the onions on top were a little too much, taking away from the taste of the tomato and mozzarella. My main course was roasted red pepper ravioli, which had a TON of sauce. They could've added an extra ravioli to compensate for the amount of sauce. But it was extremely tasty!! Their service was fast and the staff friendly. Off the street parking is available and easy to find during less than busy hours.

The food was rather delicious. I had the stuffed lobster Ravioli and it did not let me down one bit. I left super full. There are limited items for Vegetarian/Vegan/Pescatarian diets but there still are options, but when you ask about certain food be clear, because I stated such and we still ended up with meat filled appetizers that I could not consume. Outside of that delicious food all around.

Good service and the food was great. Absolutely loved the calamari. We got seated in the basement and it was a bit darker than I would've liked, but it was a bustling spot so I didn't mind too much.

I always love mamas. It is perfect for that italian comfort food that we all need. I love to take people that are visiting to really experience everything the hill has to offer. The vodka sauce is some of the best i have ever had. Amazing ravioli, amazing eggplant parm, amazing everything!

Mama's on the Hill is an Italian restaurant located in St. Louis's historic Italian district on The Hill. They serve a variety of anti pasto appetizers, salad, traditional pasta, specialty pasta, entrees, pizzas, and desserts. This is the third time I have been to this restaurant and my party and I came to have dinner here tonight. Street parking is normal in this area as this district is very busy with other restaurants and shops. Once inside the restaurant, I found the overall atmosphere to be very cozy and family friendly. Our server seated us quickly and immediately brought out a bread basket with butter, olive oil, and Parmesan. We ordered The "Original" Toasted Ravioli to share and decided to get our raviolis half cheese and half meat. The TRavs were fried to perfection and the mix of meat and cheese was great. This dish also came with a yummy marinara sauce to dip! I also ordered their Seafood Linguine which came out quick and hot! The creamy sauce was so delicious and I received a generous helping of seafood which included shrimp and scallop. The pasta was also cooked perfectly. I had plenty of leftovers to take home too as the portion sizes were enormous! Our server was very polite and even offered to pack our pasta and appetizer dishes to go. Overall, I had a lovely experience and will definitely be coming back.

Came for a weekday lunch, no wait. Would have preferred to come for dinner when the restaurant would have had more atmosphere. Everyone said you had to get Italian while in St Louis. Of course we did the Toasted Ravs as I heard them get referred to, to start with - nothing special to rave about, wouldn't order again - they are what they are! Between us we got the Seafood Linguine and Diablo Linguine - both good - good amount of seafood in them - scallops and shrimp were good well. Flavourful sauces. Service was good.

This cozy little spot on the hill is no-frills with absolutely delicious food. Try to call ahead for a reservation if possible. There aren't many spots to stand if you're waiting for a table, especially if the weather isn't so great. We try a number of traditional Italian dishes, and everything was so great. The antipasto platter was my favorite. So many great flavor combinations. I could eat a meal of this alone!

Extremely underwhelmed and disappointed by this restaurant. Italian food doesn't need to be expensive or fancy to be great, so this is just a complete miss for no reasonable excuse. Every single pasta dish was badly executed and swimming in soupy sauces, and the quality of the food in general is very poor. Our server was sweet, and they did a nice job accommodating our table of 10, but I just cannot justify eating any of the food here. The toasted raviolis are mid. I was excited for the rabbit bolognese, but there was hardly any meat, the meat that there was was very tough, and the sauce was more like water than sauce. Same for the pesto pasta dish that my boyfriend got. It didn't even taste like pesto to me. The only things I thought weren't horrible was a sort of flatbread pizza someone else got, and the caesar side salad I had. One of our friends tried the Mama's Meatball Challenge, and by god, unless you are a competitive eater, there is no way you are getting through that. A fun concept for sure, though.

It was a nice evening, and we were in the neighborhood, so we decided to try this restaurant. We sat outside, and there was light music playing. We each got something different, and everyone was very pleased with their choices. Olivia was very helpful with menu suggestions and very attentive to our table.

I didn't get as many things as I normally do, however I loved what I had. Caesar salad was good, however I loved my manicotti. They didn't skimp on the cheese. Sauce was delicious, I was hungover and ate it all. I sat outside and I loved that as well. Cute little neighborhood. I got checked on by my server and two bussers more often than every other time in my life but one , and I was outside with no visual until you turned the corner.

Cute restaurant in a cute area of town. Great for a date or to catch up with some friends. The service was pretty good, our waiter was kind and helpful but didn't seem to be too attentive. He appeared rushed and seemed to want to get done and move on to the next thing as fast as possible. It was pretty busy, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. It did take him quite some time to come around when it was time to order and when it was time for the check. The bus boy seemed nervous when we were finishing our meal and seemed eager to take things away, mostly things we weren't done with. He would hover and ask about the same things nearly every minute, in between he would linger and stare until his next poorly timed round. Once we were able to finally order the food came out very fast. It was mostly very good. Nothing unique or different from other good Italian places I've visited, but very good nonetheless. And to clarify, a definite step up from Olive Garden. Do not go to Olive Garden if given the choice between the two. We played it safe and ordered the typical staples as it was our first time here: chicken parmigiana, spaghetti and meatballs, manicotti, garlic cheesy bread. All was delicious aside from the meatball. The meatball was very underseasoned and tasted like the inside of a freezer. I went in craving a good homemade meatball and came out very disappointed. We ordered safe things any Italian place worth their salt should be expert at. Deducting a star for this. It's a meatball, the absolute basics. Come on, now.

Incredible experience! Loved the home personal setting of the restaurant which is laid out within in an old home, giving the feel of going over to someone's house for dinner. The staff make you feel like family and the food itself is amazing! Some of the best Italian food I've ever had. Will definitely need to come back next time I'm in Illinois!!

I went with my family last night. There were eight of us and we really enjoyed their food. My favorite was the pasta called Penne Carbonara. I wish I can get the recipe and make it at home. I even had leftovers to take home.

Finally got to try Mama's In The Hill..it's been here since 1939 and is credited with starting the FRIED RAVIOLI CRAZE If you're ever in St Louis do yourself a favor and come by. Everything was unbelievable...

My hubby read about this place on Yelp. We traveled to St. Louis for our 30th anniversary and thought we would give it a try. The food and ambiance are amazing. We had the best wait person, Olivia. She tended to our needs and really made our evening special. Bring your appetite to this restaurant. The portions are huge. The lasagna was enough to feed at least two really hungry people, as was the seafood linguine. The fresh bread with olive oil was a wonderful way to start the meal. We also sampled the toasted ravioli. They were good, but not really our cup of tea. Be sure to make reservations beforehand because this place gets really busy and seating is limited. Also, street parking is limited because the restaurant is in a neighborhood. Be prepared to walk a couple of blocks.

One of the few restaurants open on the hill on Sunday. It was packed. I would make sure that you make a reservation if you plan on going there on Sunday. The food was great. The service was good. I do recommend the calamari as an appetizer. I got the Linguine Diablo for dinner. I loved it, great hot red sauce. I usually don't eat red sauce out because I make my own, but this was totally unique and different.

We were disappointed with Mamas. It was our first visit to the Hill area. Very early on a weekday before a Cardinal game and it was not very busy. They had lots of wait staff but they mostly seemed to be waiting around instead of waiting on us. The interior is kind of plain and basic. This is one of the places that claim to have originated the toasted ravioli. It wasn't any better than we get at any average pizza place around. Kind of over done. My wife had penne with meat sauce. She didn't really car for the sauce. She thought it had an odd flavor. I had gnocchi and didn't really care for it either. The gnocchi's we too dense for my taste. So I try ink next time we are in the area we will try something different.
