Was seated in a booth and ordered Peruvian Paella with ice tea. Complimentary chips with salsa and queso were delivered to the table. Background music was a mix of Spanish pop and older Spanish traditional classics. My plate was delivered in short time and was piping hot. The mix of seafood in this dish was good and loaded with flavor. The portions were enough for two. Everything I tasted was delicious. I enjoyed my meal and had a good dining experience here.

I had such a great experience here! The food was delicious, but what really made the visit unforgettable was our waitress, Wendy. She was so friendly, attentive, and genuinely kind—it felt like we were being taken care of by family. She made sure everything was perfect from start to finish, and her energy just made the whole vibe even better. If you go, ask for Wendy—you won’t be disappointed!

Google
They're upping their game! Don't get me wrong, I think they've always been good. But last time I reviewed their food I had some real criticism of the fajitas. I tried them again and found that my concerns had been addressed!!! When a place makes actual progress, possibly based on reviews, that deserves some real praise. In particular, the fajitas this time had some real char on them, they weren't soupy and they had some real "grill" flavor. They're getting close to real excellence on this. This time, I also decided to go out on a limb and make some special requests on the food prep. I've fallen out of that habit because of the lack attentiveness at some restaurants nowadays, But here, they listened, wrote it down and the dish was served PRECISELY as requested. No fuss, no big deal, just right. For the price, this is an excellent place to go.

Google
Food was hot, the chips, salsa and cheese sauce was great. The flour tortillas were fresh and clearly home made. The main dish was oven hot and very good to eat, not Tex Mex but authentic Mexican. Will definitely go back again.

Google
Made another trip to Norman for an appointment and decided to grab lunch at Mamaveca just down the street from the doc's office. Absolutely the best Lomito Saltado I've had so far and it was the dish of the day. Mama's Quesadilla was huge and the margarita was awesome. Service and food was great and the atmosphere was spot on. Kudos to the owner who waited and served us. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Google
Grabbed food for take out. Very nice! My burrito dinner also came with chips, salsa, cheese dip, and homemade tortillas. Such a nice surprise!!! Would eat here again if I'm in town.

Google
It's very hard to find GOOD Peruvian cuisine anywhere in the Midwest area. I was very skeptical about a Mexican/Peruvian restaurant. However, the food was very authentic! I had the ceviche pescado and that is not easy to get right. The leche de tigre was on point! Fresh! The lomo saltado was equally as good and had that Peruvian authentic flavor. I WILL be back for more of their other dishes! 👍🙂

Google
You need to eat here... this is not your typical Mexican restaurant. It doesn't look like much when you drive up, but I believe it's the best Mexican food I've ever had (and I've been to Mexico a few times). I haven't tried the Peruvian food there yet, but I definitely will!! We ate here yesterday, and the service was quick and friendly. Restaurant, tables, booths were clean. The food was out of this world. Next-level taste. I had Paola's special, which was basically fajita filling topped with cheese. The steak was tender, the veggies perfectly cooked and not smothered in oil. But whatever they marinated or cooked it in just kicked it up too my list of incredible meals. It looked simple, but tasted 5-Star. Also a scoop of Fresh guacamole!! My mouth is watering just thinking about all that, I definitely need to go back. Try this. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Love this place! They have great food and a great staff. I've treat different things in the menu; It never disappoints. My mom loves the churros

Yelp
Bland. Pricey but a lot of food. I went right before 8 on a Saturday. I had to pour salt on all my food. The beef in my taco was more white than brown. So dry I choked a bit and didn't finish it. I got my order in about 3 minutes after placing it. My plate was hotter than my food. My beans were not very warm. Rice was dry and completely flavorless. Guacamole was clearly not made fresh. Not sure what was. Maybe this was a rough night for them, but the place was nearly empty around 8. The presidente margarita was fantastic but a lot of ice. Salsa was good. What can ya do.

Jimmy J.

Yelp
Went for lunch and was disappointed in the value. Service was excellent. Had a taco salad, co-worker had the small enchilada lunch plate (one enchilada, rice, beans). One unsweetened tea and a water. $30 bill. For. Lunch. Ground beef in salad was gray. Flavorless, watery queso. The vibe was interesting: if you like loud Spanish version of "Genie in a Bottle" then this is your place. You can get better quality and value at Taco Mayo for half the price.

Lee S.

Yelp
The absolute best IMHO, chips and salsa. The beef fajitas is my favorite dish of all places in Norman.

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant in Norman. My favorites include their queso blanco, chaufa de pollo, enchiladas verde, and their frozen margaritas. So delicious.
google avatar

Kristi S.

Yelp
This place came so highly recommended that we skipped our usual favorite and came to try it out. Sadly we were disappointed. Food was bland , burrito was cold in the middle. Nachos were pretty good. We probably should've known something was up when we pulled in at 12 o'clock on a Saturday and there was nobody else there.

Shirley C.

Yelp
I love their homemade tortillas and salsa's. Food is great and so is the service. Price is reasonable.
google avatar

Yelp
What a hidden gem! The food was amazing as was the service. The spicy margarita will get you if your not into spicy stuff

Yelp
A couple of days ago I went in to have my usual favorite dish: vegetable taco salad. No one anywhere does it like Mamavecca's, and it has always been delicious-- except for today. Today they put in spoiled spinach that was undetected visually after it has been sautéed with the other vegetables. However, with every bite there was the sour taste when I eat the spinach. I want to implore the cooks to always use fresh vegetables; there is a big difference in taste.

Yelp
Worst Mexican place in Norman. Awful service & management. GO ANYWHERE ELSE!!!!! SO Many better choices & even less expensive. Rude waitstaff as well.

Yelp
Possibly the very best Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. If you want excellent exceptional authentic Mexican cuisine try this place for the most delicious meal of your life.

Ronnie S.

Yelp
Mamaveca is our favorite restaurant. We love their food, their service, their people, their drinks (margaritas) and PEDRO. William and Monica bing their culture and expertise with the Peruvian food. It is great. If you have not tried it you have missed out. Their Mexican food is fabulous as well. GREST FOOD REASIONABLE PRICED, AND EXCELLENT SERVICE.
google avatar

Beth M.

Yelp
We love this hidden gem in Norman for their excellent drink selection and Mexican dishes - it's close to everything but tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the 24th Street businesses north of Robinson and the best place to stop before the hitting up the nearby bowling alley! Recommendations: beergarita, sangria swirl, fajita enchiladas, spicy salsa.

Connie S.

Yelp
I ordered Mexican food which was typical Tex-Mex. Some in our group ordered the Peruvian and said it was very good. The food was fresh and hot. We had a large group and the servers were very fast and accurate. Overall good experience and would probably go back.

Yelp
They served us a weak attempt at a Peruvian staple for our first stop in. Papa a la huancaina had too little potato, the sauce was thinned out and lacked color, lacked flavor, with no aji heat whatsoever. Also no included hardboiled egg, no olive. My guess is they're simpling it down way too much for the American pallet. That or they're cutting corners doing it too cheaply. Either way it was pretty pathetic, and at nearly $9 also overpriced, especially for what you're given. They did stay open a few extra minutes so we could make it for takeout, so I added back a star. I'm not sure if all of their Peruvian dishes are being done as cheaply as this. But this was an easy one to get right, and they missed pretty badly. If you go maybe stick with their Mexican dishes.

John B.

Yelp
The food is great. Service is good, but many hidden fees and charges ( charges fee if you buy alcoholic drinks). Management is pain in butt.

Yelp
If you are looking for authentic Mexican and Peruvian food and a welcoming, relaxed ambience, this is definitely the place! I live in Grand Rapids, Michigan which has a large Hispanic population and consequently very many excellent Mexican restaurants. So, I was prepared not to be as pleased with the food at Mamaveca's here in Oklahoma. But, was I ever wrong! The food and service both at Mamaveca's is the best! It was so good that I went back to the restaurant a second time and brought my sister, brother in law, and nephew, all of whom live here. And they agreed that the food at Mamaveca's was excellent. On top of that, the servers graciously helped me to practice my Spanish in conversation with them. They were congenial, patient, and so helpful! I will definitely return to this establishment as often as I can whenever I'm in town. Five stars for this place (¡Cinco estrellas para este lugar!)

Yelp
Good food and service. A nice blend of Tex-Mex and Peruvian Dishes. Restaurant is clean. Margaritas are delicious.

Stacey B.

Yelp
This place opened up near us recently. We went for lunch on a Thursday. Pretty busy for a weekday lunch. We ordered the burrito dinner and enchiladas plate. It came with unlimited chips, salsa, and queso dip. The service was quick and friendly. They refilled our chips and dips without asking. Food was great. It came out fast and hot. Definitely going back.
google avatar

Casey L.

Yelp
First, the service is awesome. Friendly, efficient and timely. The food is all delicious. From the salsa and Blanca Queso, to every dish I've had. I try to have a different selection each time and I'm never disappointed. Clean and relaxed atmosphere. They have kept the plexiglass separators between booths which I'm very happy about.

Yelp
THE BEST MEXICAN FOOD IN NORMAN!!! I come here all the time and the food is always top notch. A lot of menu choices and they are all amazing. Great flavor, great service. Please do not deny yourself the chance to eat here.
google avatar

Michelle H.

Yelp
My husband and I have been here a few times and not impressed with the food or service or the atmosphere. Go to Ted's. It's better by far!
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place to the moon and back! It was an "easy choice" when looking for a special place in Norman to celebrate with Thai guests and friends! Let it be known, TODAY, EVEN BANGKOK KNOWS ABOUT MAMAVECA'S MEXICAN AND PERUVIAN RESTAURANT. This place ROCKS!
google avatar

Kelsie B.

Yelp
I LOVE mamaveca's! Hands down one of my favorite Norman restaurants. Great bar, handmade fluffy tortillas, and DELICIOUS food! Always great service and friendly people.

Angela S.

Yelp
This is my new favorite Mexican restaurant! The service is very fast and very friendly! There is never a wait (why I don't know)! The portions are large and well priced. I always get the chicken fajita enchiladas for lunch and take half home for dinner! Love the salsa, warm chips, and queso and the flour tortillas are homemade and delicious! The restaurant is clean and has an authentic feel! If you're looking for great Mexican food in Norman, check this place out!
google avatar

Mike G.

Yelp
Mamavecas offers both Mexican and Peruvian dishes. We have tried both and both were tasty with good-sized portions. Be brave and try a Peruvian specialty! You wont regret it!

kid f.

Yelp
Good standard Mexican food restaurant almost no waiting and the food selection is good..they have choice of beers and the dessert is good I t is somewhat noisy but less that several others in town

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch today, first time, glad I did as the food was excellent. The chicken tamale w/ sour cream sauce and pork tamale w/ chili sauce are a must if you're a tamale fan! Lunch specials come w/ 2 sides and they offer many to choose from. Chips & salsa were super fresh and the salsa had just the right amount of heat. Very good service and the food came out quickly. Large portions will give you leftovers for the next day. Wish I would have found this place sooner!

Yelp
Tried this place for the 1st time last week and all I can say is great food and excellent service! Staff is extremely attentive and friendly. More than one staff member, excluding our server, asked if we needed anything and checked on us. Doesn't seem like a super popular restaurant since the 2 times I've been this week () they weren't super busy and we were seated quickly and even received our food shortly after. The restaurant is not super big but has lots of windows to brighten up the space. I guess it's obvious to say I'll be back since I've already gone back for the second time.

Yelp
Best Mexican food ive ever had. Make sure to get Fajitas, creme corn(really really good) and the flan for desert. Extremely reasonably priced! Will be back! A+++

Yelp
Recently discovering the world of Peruvian food, we have been trying places around the city. I happen to be feeling this type of food while in Norman and discovered this place. It's out of the way, but definitely good food. Their approach is a bit different, Ill even go as far as saying it's a bit cheaply made. I ordered the Lomo Saltado and you don't get much quantity of meat, it's veggie loaded and even the fries were skimped. For the price, I think we should have gotten more food. Taste was spot on though, it just wasn't much food for the price. Great friendly staff and clean dining area.
google avatar

Brenna S.

Yelp
Everyone says Tarahumara's is the best in Norman.. but this place beats them by a lot! My sister and I went here on a whim because Ted's had an hour wait. We were seated very quickly and had EXCELLENT service. The tamales were the best I've had in a while. Food was overall amazing.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
Wasn't a huge fan of the food, but maybe it's because I ordered the wrong thing? Creamed corn was good, but the chimichanga wasn't. Service was wonderful though!
google avatar

Harry S.

Yelp
Excellent service, excellent food, and nice and quiet to sit and eat a meal and talk. The ambience is delightful.
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
Amazing service and delicious food! I had the Lomito Saltado, it was to die for and our server was fantastic!!
google avatar

Alyssa V.

Yelp
Food is great, but not a huge fan of the fish tacos. Definitely recommend their other Peruvian options and their Chile relleno is delicious! Service is great, only one star for the fish tacos not being the best but there are definitely some incredible choices on this menu.
google avatar

Brion O.

Yelp
What a joy to discover good homemade Peruvian dished done really good! In our backyard to boot. Friendly helpful attentive staff. If you haven't enjoy Peruvian dishes don't hesitate to ask. A little something for everyone here. Arrive early, we watch it fill up fast. We will be back. Thanks Mama, kitchen and servering staff!

Yelp
Great options of Mexican and Peruvian food. A wonderful part of the Norman community. Their ceviche was delicious.
google avatar

Aaron A.

Yelp
Excellent food and service every time I have been here. Fantastic enchiladas. I highly recommend Mamaveca.
google avatar

Thu n.

Yelp
The food here is very good and the portions are big. The place seems to stay busy, and has a great vibe. The waiter def could have been more friendly, but everyone has bad days. Would def return to try the ceviche, it looks terrific.

Yelp
We stopped by here between OK and Denton, after looking for a decent Mexican restaurant (figured authentic would be challenging to find in the area). The food exceeded our expectation (for this area) & we liked that masks are still reinforced/required. We got the classic ceviche pescado, pescado a lo macho, & Chile relleno. Our fav was the pescado a lo macho, which came with your choice of rice or mashed potato (we got the mashed potato since we were tired of rice). It's got 3 mussels, many calamari, & ~3 shrimps. The relleno w/ chicken breasts was alright, chicken was a bit dry and salty, the rice didn't look authentic (looked like lightly fried rice) but we didn't care for that. The ceviche is fantastic if you're into them, we forgot how sour they were but still tasted fresh (didn't like the sweet potato). Lastly, we got a pomegranate margarita that was very good too, on the sweeter side (we didn't realize OK's alcohol tax is high compared to TX). Staffs were friendly & well-mannered. Would come again if we ever have to come to OK :p

Tina B.

Yelp
Best home made tortillas in the whole world!! I love their chicken enchiladas and chicken nachos too! Awesome Peruvian dishes too! I can't remember the name of the one I get but it has shrimp and wholly cow they serve large portions and I always have leftovers!!

Kandyce M.

Yelp
Ceviche extraordinaire! Fresh and fabulous. Ordered the fish and the shrimp ceviche and they were equally tasty. Quick takeout service by friendly owner.
google avatar

Noah K.

Yelp
Great little place. Everything from the top shelf drinks to the spicy seafood dishes were excellent. Will definitely come back. Great service.
google avatar

Hunter D.

Yelp
$70 dollars for 4 margaritas and 4 tacos + rice/beans. (1 taco = $6.25!!??) Total would be ~$40 in Tulsa. Food/margs were great, but won't be back. Sad. Thought we'd found the best Mexican in Norman.

Michelle W.

Yelp
Salsa was perfect for me. Had great flavor but no heat. Cheese sauce good and the chicken fajita meat was good. Chips were ok.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
We just moved to Oklahoma several months ago. We went to the Lowe's in Norman recently. As we were leaving Lowe's, we saw Mamaveca's Mexican and Peruvian Restaurant across the parking lot and decided to try it on a whim. The manager was very friendly and informative about the menu. The servers were friendly and quick in serving us. My husband and I both ordered the Mexican food the first time we went there, and it was delicious. We went again today and I ordered the beef burrito with rice and beans, which was phenomenal, and my husband ordered some type of chicken and beef dish with rice and beans from the Peruvian menu. He said it was as wonderful. The chicken and beef were seasoned perfectly and cooked just right. The chicken and beef were so tender. Once again, the manager was very friendly and welcoming and our server was amazing and very helpful in helping my husband choose his dish from the Peruvian menu. This has become our favorite Mexican restaurant (also Peruvian restaurant) and we have tried several other Mexican restaurants around here. If you're looking for a great Mexican restaurant with a different and unique menu, try Mamaveca's.
