A truly five star experience, and I can see why the Michelin guide liked MaMe enough for a mention.
At MaMe it isn't the pretentious nature of michelin stars and cooking that they embrace, but rather an exploration of italian tastes that take you on a wild ride and leaves you wondering if what you just tasted was real.
We started the night with first courses of salmon ravioli and beef plin, both of which were salty, umami, and wholly satisfying. The salmon was drizzled in a fresh herb sauce, and the plin in a creamy one. It was beautiful.
As you start they bring you a portion of home made bread and bread sticks, which were delicious. We were also brought a fried gnocchi with a mixed fish paste and it was delightful.
Our second course consisted of herby sea bream, and it was cooked to a soft and meaty perfection. The sauce only highlighted the fish with nothing detracting from it. My partner had the beef, and frankly this was one of the tastiest beef dishes I have ever tasted. I'm not sure what or how they did it, but it was salty and beefy, whilst still being soft and tender. Hats off to the chef it was cooked to perfection.
We finished off the night with the coconut and mango mousse that was light and punchy, but the second star of the show was tiramisu MaMe style. Decadent and delicious.
This is a 5 star experience that is heavily recommended if visiting Viareggio. It's a little further out of the way but completely worth it.
