We used a Groupon and definitely got our money's worth with this deal. We got a bottle of wine, an appetizer, 2 side salads, entrees and a dessert. Hubby had the chicken marsala and said it was delicious. I had the spaghetti and meatballs. Loved the spaghetti, but the meatballs weren't my favorite; they were a little tough, but there was so much spaghetti that I didn't miss not eating them. Good size salads and we got the garlic cheese bread, which was so yummy! Shared a chocolate cannoli. House wine is a Sangiovese and it was really nice. Loved that it is a nice quiet place. We sat a Mike and Doris' Sunday table. ❤️ We will definitely be back.

Ordered for pick up. Not too impressed, especially for the price. Ordered lasagna, and chicken Parmesan. Lasagna was okay, the chicken parm wasn't breaded, and had no taste to the sauce. Also pretty skimpy on the cheese! The salads were the best tasting, but they were pretty skimpy on that too! We ordered for pick up, but they gave us zero utensils or napkins. For $20+ entrees, definitely not worth coming back, was very disappointed!

Kinda dark lighting when walking in , ordered the seafood pasta they forgot my mussels so he brought them on the side overall my food was a 7/10 I asked for it to be spicy but I guess he forgot to add chilli flakes . But the white wine sauce is really really good! I subbed out the regular sauce for that. My bread was warmed in the microwave so I didn’t eat it but if it was candles on the table that would spice up the place ! Not to bad

The chicken with cream sauce was good but a tiny bit bland. The lasagna came out piping hot and had a very nice flavor. The bread was excellent.

Best tiramisu dessert, and pasta 🍝😋 great 👍 big portions and fast service. We also had the brushqueta appetizer

Build your own pasta options come with a side salad. I had cheese tortellini with creamy pesto sauce (Sorento). Portions were generous. The chocolate mouse dessert comes in a glass flute even if you pick it up to- go. Tasty but you have to be very careful if you choose to take this item to- go. Staff was very helpful.

Our new favorite Italian spot! The picture says it all! Lots of take-home, and a cleaned desert plate... one of the best Tiramisu I've ever had! It's a perfect balance between chocolate and coffee! I don't generally like coffee flavor, but on rare occasions they get it right. I'm definitely going back for more! Also, I did something they don't normally do: I got the pesto sauce with the cheesy, and it was fantastic with the mushrooms! I'm a cook and I love mixing flavors: especially sauces, seasonings and drink flavors. I highly recommend trying this combo! I was enjoying it so much, the waiter asked about it and is now interested in trying it! LOL

First time coming to this restaurant. Ordered the Eggplant Parmesan, not great. Horrible. Took two bites and ask for the bill, paid and left. Wasted money for just two bites. Very lazy approach of how they made it. Very plain. As a home cook myself, I can make it much better. Will never come back here again. I don’t recommend anybody to come to this restaurant.

Yelp
Finally got to try this restaurant for a family dinner. It's a nice, neighborhood friendly restaurant with the perfect amount of indoor space. Tried the artichoke dip as an appetizer and ordered the chicken piccata for dinner. Each meal comes with fresh bread and dipping oils. Everything was delicious and the service was great. I'll definitely be returning soon!

Yelp
The food was pretty good. Not sure If I ordered the wrong dish? My friend's dish was good. I'm not used to a lot of carbs. So, maybe that was it? Have to try and get a different dish next time! Yet, I will say that their desserts are really good!!! I had the Lemon-cello. It's imported from Italy. It's a bit on the sweet side, but so delicious!!! I was really surprised that their Tiramisu was so dang good!!! I don't like to taste of alcohol at all. I couldn't even taste it in this tiramisu. Most restaurants are heavy-handed on the alcohol. this was really light, delicate, and just the perfect amount of sweetness! I would go there just for the desserts! Which is funny since I'm not much of a sweets person. The staff is incredibly nice and helpful! Willing to give recommendations and take the time to explain it to you. They're happy to make any changes that you wish. Definitely a Mom and Pop style restaurant.

Yelp
Good food, nice service, recommend going. Got the kids penne pasta and it was really good. I shared the chocolate mousse with my cousin and it was my first time tasting mousse. It was like chocolate ice cream with a different texture. The bread was also good. GO GO GO GO GO RUN!!!!!!

Yelp
Best polenta around! Everything I had there was good. We usually get takeout but the times we have eaten in were good ambiance too. Really good Italian!

Yelp
My partner and I visited Mamma Sussana's with a **$60 Groupon** and were pleasantly surprised by the amount of food it covered: an appetizer, a salad, a bottle of wine, two rounds of bread, two entrees, and a dessert. Just a heads-up--**asking for a third round of bread costs extra**, so keep that in mind. The food was filling and generally good. My partner had the **butternut squash ravioli**, which was alright, while I went for a hearty **Penne Norcina**. Male server offered to put loads of grated cheese on top, so we had it for both of our meals. I'm not entirely sure if it was parmesan since it was stringier than powdered cheese, but it added a nice touch. The appetizer, **cheesy garlic bread**, was nicely presented, though the tomato sauce in the center was **room temperature**--the flavor was fine, but the temperature was a bit off-putting. However, the **limoncello dessert** was the star of the meal for me--light, refreshing, and a perfect ending. Service-wise, our main server (a woman) was accommodating and attentive. The other two servers, a man and a teen, seemed tired and disengaged--they never showed much expression, but hey, everyone has their off days. All in all, we left full, satisfied, and felt the **money was well spent**. It's a cozy spot with solid food--just don't expect everything to be perfect.

Yelp
Great Italian food, great service! The tiramisu is to live for. It's great for a nice couples dinner or for a group of friends.

Yelp
Got in just before closing time. They offer rosemary bread with oil and balsamic when you sit, which is a nice touch. Opted for something simple - spaghetti, salad, and minestrone soup. Everything was served piping hot and seasoned well. The service was attentive, and the cozy interior had a few booths and tables.

Yelp
Casual old school Italian joint This is a delicious authentic feeling Italian spot. I was looking forward to the lobster ravioli that I spotted on Yelp- but it's no longer on the menu. (Neither was the veal). We did enjoy several apps (the polenta was amazing-so creamy!) and they accommodated our large group well in the back room. Parmesan was grated over each dish as we tried a wide variety of pastas. The clear favorite was the gnocchi! FYI- serving sizes are large so be prepared to share or take home leftovers

Yelp
Continuing the family fun of returning to this amazing little gem, soooooo excited to see them and and busier than ever with events and great celebrations! Still in love with the whole experience of this place. Walk in and warmly greeted, sometimes by the whole crew right as they open and it's like walking into family's house when everyone says hello in unison lol what a warm feeling though. Seated and fresh warm breaded *drool... I always save mine because we order clams and that broth is just absolutely phenomenal. Packed with so much flavor but simultaneously light! Always want to soak up the broth with that delicious bread... so nothing goes to waste. We finally tried a pizza, decent size as we still had a few slices left but we do wish the dough had been rolled out just a smidge thinner so it fit more of the plate after cooking and was a bit more crispy and thin. Shrimp scampi was a great portion, couldn't even finish because I inhaled so much bread with the clams lol again very light on flavor so not super greasy like some scampi's can be. I appreciate their light take so you leave still able to function for the day. My favorite off menu dessert was in!!!!!!! So I got the glorious orange delight, perfect on a warm summer evening and still one of the most unique desserts I've had in Sacramento. Great place for catching up with friends, date night, family night and menu is large enough for everyone to find something. Delizioso

Yelp
Ron is the best! I wish he was still there, but the food is still fire. I got a sickness, the only thing that can cure it is more Ron or more mammas.

Yelp
Food was pretty good! Had the Groupon which is amazing! Full 4 course dinner with a bottle of wine! They're doing their best with limited staff. Good service but a couple things could improve. I'd recommend a uniform refresh (no shirts with holes) and the waiter could have checked back a time or two more to pace the meal better. Overall the experience and value was well worth it.

Yelp
Ron was the best everything: server, sommelier, busboy, host with the most, whatever you need, Ron got you. I don't even come here for the food, I just come here for service by Ron. Ron: "The Server's Server."

Yelp
My husband is a bolognese snob and this place is his JAM. The portions are enormous, so we can get almost 3 meals out of 1 plate. The staff is so nice and I love to support the mom and pops in our town.

Yelp
Recently returned to this small restaurant. Food was very good and so was the service. Always enjoy small independent restaurants.

Yelp
The food was amazing my husband said he has never had gnocchi that amazing and it ruined gnocchi from other places because nothing lives up to the gnocchi here. I shared the prosciutto mac and cheese with my toddler. And we both loved it, absolutely flavorful and perfect amount of prosciutto. The service was a little slow, but the server/owner had more than 10+ tables she was taking care of, but she mafe an effort witb each and every table. She had support staff helping and everyone was so nice making sure everyone had a good dining experience. On our way out we overheard her say to someone on the phone she hires a lot of staff from Sac State and kids in the neighborhood. That truly made us appreciate our experience so much more because she truly takes care of everyone. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing experience from start to finish! One of my dad's favorite places in Sac and we went on a father-daughter date on Sunday. We started with the risotto appetizer, and it was perfection -- creamy, flavorful, and beautifully presented. For the main course, we had the fettuccine alfredo, and it was hands down one of the best we've ever had. Rich, comforting, and made with love. The service was attentive and friendly, and the ambiance made it feel like a cozy little escape to Italy. Can't wait to come back and try more dishes! Highly recommend!

Yelp
I don't live in Sac anymore but I visit my mom often in River Park. There are 3 restaurants here and I've been to the two others (about a 4 in rating). Haven't been to this one in years. I remember not being terribly impressed but my mom wanted some minestrone soup. -Minestrone Soup- not the kind I'm accustomed to. It's like a thin tomato soup with lots of veggies. No beans or pasta. I prefer mine thicker. My mom seems pleased though. Wish the restaurant had included some Parmesan cheese in our (to go order) as that would make it taste much better. -Garlic bread- they only have cheese garlic bread. Thin and seems more like a cheese pizza. Not bad. Just not garlic bread. - Caesar Salad- not bad. I do like the garlic in the croutons. - no napkins with our to go order. At least it's a short drive from my moms. If we return I'll try a pasta dish and see if it's good.

Yelp
This is my two cents for mamma Susanna restaurant... I order a delivery from Uber eats .. it was delivered 20 minutes late .. Plus, the menu compared to Grubhub was $.50 more for the delivery and there were less options compared to GrubHub...... Now the actual food I have been looking for a place that will serve proper spaghetti and meatballs... this is definitely not the place for spaghetti and meatballs.. I was told that these were house made handmade meatballs,.. they lied they were not .. I got four count them for meatballs, smaller than a golf .. I have no idea what they were made out of but they were not flavored Italian style...As such as with basil, oregano and garlic They were obviously not made by hand, and they were some of the nastiest meatballs I have had recently..Even compared to the ones in Florida.. You can find better meat flavor spaghetti sauce, Great Value at the Walmart supermarket.. There was no oregano there was no basil definitely no garlic in the sauce... And they have the audacity to charge $19 for a serving of this item.. They also gave me two dry pieces of bread, that obviously was not any type of garlic bread whatsoever not worth taking a picture, hardly worth mentioning here..... I also asked for a side salad, which was only three dollars.. as in my photograph, they gave me 2....2 small serving of so call salad. But if you still insist upon having it delivered? I strongly suggest going to GrubHub. They give you a cheaper price and a larger opportunity have a bigger menu. Overall with the taxes and the California mandatory payment. I pay $30 including the tip for this meal. Definitely not worth it at all...

Yelp
The food, the people and the atmosphere are all too notch. The staff is very friendly and welcoming, and the food....The food is absolutely Amazing!! The best Italian I've had in sacramento. Highly recommend

Yelp
It had been a few years since I had been here, and I always thought it was pretty good. But I understand that there was a change in ownership and it is even better! In fact, it's great! I love minestrone and usually get it, but decided to try the Stracciatella. As a soup, I still prefer minestrone, but the Stracciatella was really good and I'm glad I tried it. The salad (with the house balsamic vinegar dressing) was excellent and was included as a side. The chicken piccata was delicious. The lasagna was better than ever. And the tiramisu was surprisingly large, beautifully presented, and very tasty. My meal came with a bottle of chianti, and it was a good one. Finally, the servers were friendly, efficient, and always ready to please. I'm so glad I came. There are already so many photos and duplicates, but I didn't notice one of the Stracciatella, so I'll upload that one.

Yelp
Ordered takeout for one Mamma Susanna's salad, a dish I had previously ordered and loved. The dish is $15 and I paid $20 in cash. I was asked if I wanted change, implying if I wanted to leave a tip. When I picked up the food several minutes later, I was asked again by a different employee if I wanted change. I found these questions odd and off-putting. Would it be ok for me to order food and ask if you wanted me to pay? The proper behavior is to give someone there change and let them decide what to tip. Enough of this tip-flation nonsense - especially for a takeout salad. Would've happily tipped if not pushed. Overall, the salad was good but felt way overpriced. Basically amounted to 2 slices of deli meat and 1 slice of cheese, with a bowl of chopped romaine. Not worth $15.

Yelp
Hands down the best Italian restaurant I've ever been to. I discovered this place about 10 years ago in a small secluded shopping center in River Park by Sac State. Everything on the menu is excellent. Try the Penne Norcina, the Lasagna or Chicken Carbonara. The ambiance is a family restaurant, you're supporting a small local business. Dimmed lights, booths, a back room for groups etc The service is always polite, helpful, and often you get the owner at your table or one of their family members. Been going for 10 years, and will always go back

Brian G.

Yelp
Ordered delivery...no care taken..spaghetti and meatballs...got 5 small meatballs..you can tell previously frozen due to the rubbery feel..undersauced and burnt. Side salad was literally 4 bites. If your going to sell food, sell what you would eat..oh..and didn't recieve fork or spoon or even a napkin..no condiments, not even parmesan

Yelp
Glad to see the owner hanging out on the weekends and a new manager as well which is a welcome change. Wife and I had the polenta fungi for an appetizer which was really hot and cheesy and butternut squash ravioli and the veal marsala with a bottle of pilot. Fantastic service and Everything was delicious , we will be back soon.

Yelp
We just dined at Mamma Susanna's Restaurante off of Carlson Drive. The restaurant is located in a strip mall Parking was easy and restaurant was accessible. We were very impressed with the welcoming service staff and the food was excellent! We ordered the steamed clam appetizer and loved the garlic sauce that was perfectly "dip-able with the garlic toast. Our main dishes were the Chicken with the Gorgonzola white wine sauce and my partner ordered the Susanna Pizza; the chicken was very tender and I added some of my remaining garlic sauce to the Gorgonzola...delish! A salad with a side of blue cheese dressing accompanied my chicken and we finished with a heavenly pana cotta dessert which was rich and creamy. We both commented that we will be returning again soon and this was one of the best Italian restaurants in Sacramento...a quaint, unassuming neighborhood cafe with Excellent Food and service!

Yelp
We generally order food to go from here. It's always ready in time and is very tasty. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. We are hooked on the eggplant Parmesan, we add extra marinara. The last time we went, the ranch dressings flavor was off and inedible. Other than that, everything was great.

Yelp
Ok, kinda torn about this place. I'm Italian and have been cooking since I could reach the kitchen counter using a step stool and as a young adult I trained under a master chef for a year. So, I think I know a bit about cooking, especially Italian food. I absolutely hate ordering Italian food, cuz I can make it way better! However, I was a bit under the weather and my hubby wanted Italian. I went to this place 8 years ago and remembered it tasted a lot like my nonna's homemade cooking that I missed so much. So, I decided to get food delivered. My hubby ordered the pasta carbonara, SPOT ON! I ordered the chicken piccata, but was disappointed. Don't get me wrong. It tasted fine, but it was not piccata. It tasted a lot like chicken marsala, and they just put some capers on top and decided to call it piccata. The chicken was not pounded flat or breaded in flour and sautéed. It looked and tasted like it was cooked and poached inside the sauce. It still had flavor, but not the correct flavor. I did not taste any lemon or acidity or brine flavor, like I said, it tasted a lot like chicken marsala, but with capers thrown on it. In fact, the sauce kinda reminded me of a stroganoff. I understand that every Italian region cooks dishes differently. But this definitely was not chicken piccata! When the food arrived, it was nicely packaged, and it came with delicious rosemary bread, which I have not had in 20 years! It also came with a nice side salad and some delicious homemade Italian dressing. I would go to this place again, but I will keep in mind what NOT to order. In the past, I had their lobster ravioli in a Gorgonzola sauce and it was absolutely delicious along with their antipasto! I would highly recommend their pasta dishes because their sauces are homemade and remind me of grandma's homemade cooking. However, I will not get any dishes from them that contain chicken. simply because they do not prepare it correctly and I want to get what I pay for. So, like I said I was torn with my review. So, I think a 3 star review is fair. If the owners want to reach out to me regarding my concerns and some constructive feedback I'd be more than happy to chat with ya! I do enjoy your food, and when I rarely do order Italian it would be from you. Because in my opinion the other Italian places in the area are very, "Americani!" Your restaurant is very homemade and authentic tasting which I greatly appreciate! -Tanto amore per te!

Yelp
So good! Service was awesome, nice atmosphere, food was wonderful. We came here on a deal, but we'll be coming back.
google avatar

Michelle A.

Yelp
The service was ok, but let's talk about the food, what we all came for. There. Was. No. Taste! Well, there was some....salty and spicy. The clams were spicy and salty, the vegetarian pizza was bland, the shrimp scampi had too much butter and over cooked noodles, and the spaghetti and meatballs was saucy, but dry and no flavor. The tiramisu was white cake with frosting, a lot of frosting. The mousse was homemade chocolate pudding, and the creme caramel had no flavor except the burnt sugar on top. I've never seen so much food left behind. The ambiance was like a diner. Dingy and just gross feeling Save yourself the time and trouble, don't come here. What a waste of $200! Now to McDonalds cause I'm hungry....

Yelp
I'm kind of a foodie and Italian so I always have high expectations. I found a Groupon for this place and decided to check them out with my best friend. I am so glad I did. The Groupon is so affordable. You get a bottle of wine, an appetizer, two entrées and a dessert to share. It's a great deal and a way to bring in customers cause I probably wouldn't have heard about this place otherwise. OK on to the food. We had her surprise us on the appetizer and she brought us the mushroom and cheese polenta. It's definitely not something I would have ordered so I'm glad that she surprised us with it because it was so much better than I expected. It was hot and creamy and rich and flavorful. Just super good but I guess for me I just felt like it should've been served on something or with some thing like a cracker... I don't know. ‍. So then I had the gnocchi Gorgonzola. I love gnocchi and Gorgonzola and they're very hard to find together. I ordered it and I was so so pleased. The gnocchi was so light and fluffy and oh my God, they melted in my mouth. It was heaven and I might have moaned, just a lil'' tho. . My friend had the chicken marsala. She makes it quite a bit and she didn't totally care for it. I think she makes it with more of a brown wine sauce, and this was more of a white cream sauce, but the flavor was good. We shared a salad and we got a cannoli to go for dessert. Damn, that thing was bomb even though we ate it an hour later. Someone licked the container. Not naming names but it wasn't me. . The service was great. I don't have one complaint about this place. I'm definitely gonna go back and you should too.

Yelp
When you're craving amazing go to Mamma Susanna's. When you're craving authentic Italian cuisine, go to Mamma Susanna's. When you're craving that neighborhood feel, where everyone knows your name, go to Mamma Susanna's. We've been here several times, and this time did not disappoint, and in fact exceeded my expectations. The menu is filled with a variety of entree options, and all of them delicious. This time I opted for pasta with seafood. It. Was. Perfect. Garlicky pasta filled with shrimp, and ...go try it. Wait ... you must order the charcuterie board. It's a must before you enjoy your meal. It's filled with a lovely variety of meats, cheeses, veggies, and croutons. Try the croutons. They are amazing. Read that again. Try the croutons. They use the focaccia that is house made, and take it to another level. I could make the croutons a meal. If you're looking for a full dining experience, here's what I do. Order a bottle and of wine and the charcuterie board. Enjoy it. Enjoy the focaccia and dipping sauce. Enjoy the moments. Then order dinner. The salad while basic, you're offered your choice of dressings. They're all house made. Try the ranch. In fact, dip your croutons in the ranch. It's a meal on its own. Damn delicious. Just when you've had a few glasses of vino, your tummy is full, and you're thinking it's time to call it a wrap, dessert smiles at you. One word. Lemoncello. It's divine. It's a must. It's phenomenal and shouldn't be shared. Handmade in Italy and imported in for Mamma's it's refreshing, delicious, and did I mention, a must ? Beautifully served in a glass flute, you'll keep looking for more when there's no more left. Make reservations, even though they take walk-ins. They are delightfully busy. Parking is free and easy. You don't want to miss out on this hidden gem. The owners are lovely, and truly work incredibly hard for their family owned business. The staff is lovely and attentive. Go and enjoy !!

Yelp
Steamed clams appetizer was wonderful, ordered shrimp scampi with high hopes. Little to no flavor at all.....can tell in photo it was very bland. Also very weird it came with an orange slice lol. Very nice staff just sad food was not good...

Yelp
I wanna say this is a hole in the wall small Italian restaurant. It felt homey when we entered. The food was ok. We got the fettuccine milanese, which was way too creamy and lemony, and we got the mama Susanna pizza, which was way too salty. Service was very slow despite the restaurant not being full.

Hans G.

Yelp
The only reason I went here was to kill time while waiting for a photo session at Paws and Palette. While I was there waiting on the undercooked and somewhat tasteless pizza I had ordered to go, a woman who had been there the previous evening came in to let the staff know that that her dining companion from last night became extremely ill after eating their food. Not only was the young girl whom the woman spoke with rude and unsympathetic, she didn't offer any type of compensation. The young gentleman who then stepped in didn't seem to have any sympathy or interest even in just listening to the woman either. Horrible customer service and sorry that I spent money at an establishment with such employees who don't care about the well being of their customers.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday night with my husband, daughter and cousins and it was so easy making a reservation. Staff were extremely friendly, personable and attentive. The food was delicious as usual! I had the fettuccini Milanese and would highly recommend. They give a generous portion of seafood. My cousin and I had the Black Stallion bottle of Cab which was also great! I would highly recommend and we will definitely be going back!

Yelp
Went out for dinner with a high school friend and searched for places that had good pasta at her request. Yelp took me to Mamma Susanna's and we were not disappointed! Mama Susanna's is dangerously close to my office in East Sac, with plenty of parking and Yelp reservations available. I was seated right away with water and focaccia with olive oil and balsamic vinegar My friend and I shared a whole pound (!) of steamed clams, which were a little spicy and served in a deliciously garlicky broth with a side of perfectly crunchy garlic bread. We couldn't even finish all of them so half came home for leftovers. I ordered the Spaghetti Carbanara, which came in a delicious cream sauce with prosciutto- the servings of pasta were huge! $18, but definitely felt like enough for 2. Entrees come with a small dinner salad with a choice of dressing- I chose ranch. Both of us also opted for a glass of Chardonnay, Bogle from Clarksburg ($9 for a glass) which was surprisingly smooth and paired well with the seafood. Service was extremely attentive and impressive- they even boxed our leftovers for us! I will be returning to try more of the menu when I can!

Yelp
Just outstanding! Tonight was our 2nd time at Mamma Susanna's and the reasons we came back are the reasons we'll be back again! The quality of food and service is outstanding. It was our anniversary and they gave us a booth in a quiet, isolated area of the restaurant even though they were busy! We love this place.

Yelp
Decided to mix up my usual dinner order (tortellini with rosa sauce) and added a cannoli! We love this place sooo much. Highly recommend the hot jalapeño dip as well.

Yelp
Holy balls this place is amazing, just absolutely amazing. I've been here twice now and my first experience the only dish I remember LOVING was the polenta e funghi: a huge plate of polenta with parmesan, marinara, and of course mushrooms. The pasta I had was less memorable but I do recall liking it. Today however we completely over-ordered for 2 people through UberEats, and this time Mamma Susanna's hit it out of the park. The portions are huge and this would easily last 2 full meals for us--4 total. For around $70 after tax and tip; not bad for an Italian place! Shrimp Scampi: basic but to die for. The seasonings are spot on (not too salty) and the garlic comes through with a hint of spice from the crushed red pepper. The shrimp is generous in portion and delightfully bouncy in texture. I would absolutely order this again. Bruschetta: again soooo amazing. The sourdough remained perfectly crunchy somehow and the tomato-ey balsamic-y olive oil-y goodness on top was super flavorful and well balanced as well. Super impressed and would get this again even though it had olives--yuck. I could hardly taste them though :P Macaroni Formaggi: not so basic mac & cheese. It was tasty if a little bland but perhaps that is because we asked to omit the prosciutto for my vegetarian bf. It was really creamy and the breadcrumbs were a nice addition. I think the pasta itself was a little overcooked so not sure if I'd necessarily get this again but I wouldn't say no either. Polenta e Funghi: as deliciously creamy and savory as I remembered. To be honest, compared to the scampi and bruschetta this also felt a little basic and overpriced ($10 for an appetizer size) but I'd definitely recommend everyone try it once. I think I'll branch out to try other apps next time but I would totally get this again. The entrees also came with small side salads--forgettable but a nice complimentary addition. It was fresh with carrots, spinach, bell peppers, and Balsamic dressing. They were kind enough to provide free bread as well. While I'm not a focaccia fan (I would have preferred more of that crispy sourdough!!) it was really soft and pillowy and had a distinct thyme flavor. A good quality bread for sure. They can be hit or miss with customizations/substitutions. They took out the prosciutto from the mac for example, but not the olives from the bruschetta. They also didn't accommodate any pasta subs but not a big deal. Overall the service is quick, portions enormous, and food extremely balanced in its flavors and textures. You can tell whoever cooked this or created the menu put a lot of love into it. I might go as far to say this is my favorite Italian restaurant in Sacramento. Unless anyone else dares provide any suggestions to top it?

Yelp
Just like mama's house! They were flexible with the reservation as the party grew and grew. They were understanding about our rambunctious kiddos (it was smart to put us in the back)! The food was good and in gigantic portions (I couldn't even finish the half size)! Prices were reasonable. I was surprised by the undersalting of the Fettucine Alfredo because everything else was perfectly seasoned, but I'd rather it be under than over 'cos you can fix the former but not the latter. One of the wait staff must have been brand new as he was not as knowledgeable of the menu, but the moment of confusion was quickly cleared up by the mama, so all in all, Mamma Susanna's gets a thumbs up.
