The Mammoth Tavern is a cozy little spot to grab some dinner in town. Do expect a line at peak times, and the wait can get long as they have something for the whole family. Good, no nonsense foods on this menu. Their caesar salad was absolutely delicious and would recommend for anyone. Otherwise the menu is nice and hardy. As they do get busy, so can the staff and would recommend sitting at the bar if its just you or for 2. Mammoth Tavern is worth a visit if you’re in town for some powder.

Google
One of the best restaurants I've ever been to. The food is simply amazing, the atmosphere/ambiance is lovely, and the staff are very friendly. I did not expect the Shepard's Pie to taste so good, highly recommend. There isn't too much parking here, so most spots might be filled. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor, by the way.

Google
30 minute wait to be seated. Fine. 45 minutes to get food after ordering. Less fine. Once the food was delivered, a dish was missing. I asked if it was coming and was told "oh no we ran out of that. Nobody told you?" The fries were cold and stale. The pretzels were bland and dry, and the accompanying "cheese sauce" was so watery and flavorless I don't think it can be called cheese. The French onion soup was so spicy it burned my throat for minutes after each bite and did not even taste like onion (it tasted more like a spicy mexican soup). After a few bites I gave up on trying to eat the food and decided i would be happier eating a pb&j at home. What a waste of time and money.

Google
Expect a long wait list during rush hour. They will put your name on the list, but they won't call back so you kinda have to wait outside.... Drinks are good. Food is so so.

Cruised in with some friends for dinner. Gotta say, everything was delicious. We ordered a couple appetizers, the home made chips were cooked perfectly. All our meals were cooked perfectly the ribs, burger and other stuff all looked delicious and the old fashions were made great. Thank you!

Google
Totally recommend: - Peach and burrata - Short rib Grilled cheese - Dancing queen cocktail - Kentucky Mule drink Meh: - meatballs Jessie also was amazing!

Google
Great experience here on a busy holiday weekend. Prompt and super POLITE service. Great cocktails and good food. Order the potato chips and dip for starters, you won’t regret it. I had the shepherd’s pie and I was SUPER IMPRESSED. Veggies were fresh, the beef was well seasoned, and the crust was perfect.

Google
We got the burger, which was great, and chicken with orange glaze, which was a bit too sweet for my taste. Nevertheless great place, very good service, easy parking and nice vistas of the surrounding mountains.

Yelp
Loved the food, service attentive and the vibe fun & up scale long wait to get in, but worth the wait!

Yelp
I have chosen that place because of good rating and a lot of people. The views from window is good: mountains and snow. Wooden tables are clear. Nice. But too noisy. The first dish was French onion soup. It was extremely salty and peppery, I didn't finish it. The second dish was shepherd pie. It was amazing, but there was no salt and pepper. I suppose all species was accidentally dropped into the soup... The service is not intrusive but fast and comfortable. The price is in the middle.

Yelp
This kills me to write. Regarding 3/30. I called at 6:55 to ask what time they planed to stop seating/serving. They said 8:30, 8:45. Rolled in at 7:50. We were refused. "Too full." Our party of six drove to Roberto's and were so welcomed. Ordered margaritas and great entrees. I left a voicemail and emailed the Tavern on 4/1. Still have not received a response (4/18).

Yelp
The service was okay, the food took a little longer than expected and the drinks got forgotten, or left at the bar for long periods of time. The lighting was very calming, had a very warm cozy vibe. The Cesar salad with the add on of shrimp was so refreshing. The fondue was delicious was a perfect appetizer for a party of 4 probably 6 max. Rounding it up the chocolate mousse was ok reminded me of chocolate pudding from elementary school, the key lime pie was to die for it was truly the reason to go back it hit the spot 10/10! Overall I give this place a 7/10

Yelp
We waited for almost an hour and had enough time to go to the sake bar across the hall. Nothing Mammoth Tavern can do about that, but I was expecting darn good food to justify the wait. I split the braised short rib grilled cheese and fried chicken sandwich with the sides of fries from both entrees, and while the grilled cheese was quite good, that's kind of it for this place. The fried chicken sandwich was fine and got the craving satisfied, but I've had better. The fries were fine but the "garlic aioli" lacked garlic, or any flavor for the matter. A friend at the table upgraded to onion rings, and it came with very little. I get that things are pricey in a touristy town like Mammoth Lakes, but I was hoping the quality would match the price point. Our waitress seemed like she wanted us to leave. She was very short and overall seemed annoyed at our table, even though we were just eating our food quietly. She was nicer to the table next to us and when we asked for the check. Maybe it was just a bad day, but I probably won't be back.

Yelp
Love this restaurant. The views are stunning. Happy hour appetizers are priced very well and are quite yummy. The mixed drinks were very effective...whee! Service was outstanding and we will come back again‼

Yelp
Came here for after dinner drinks since the bowling alley was closed for a private event. The Christmas decor inside was so cute and and festive which I loved. The server we had at the bar was great as well. They had a lot of interesting cocktails and pretty much a drink for anyone. I got a gin drink that had banana flavoring which I wish was more intense but wasn't bad. My bf for a bourbon drink that had a nice sweet finish. We also ordered the salted caramel ice cream which was good. Would def come back :)

Yelp
AWESOME food! We went twice in one week and between the five of us we tried almost everything on the menu: oysters, ribs, spinach dip, pretzel, onion soup, burger, chicken sandwich, wrap, Cesar salad, macaroni and cheese, etc. Everything was absolutely delicious! Service was solid--we enjoyed our waiter Jesse and wish I could remember our female server's name, as she was excellent as well. She was helping with hostess duties too! Only downside is the restaurant is far too small to accommodate how popular they are. They don't accept reservations so we waited more than an hour on a Friday night. Ugh. And unlike other places, they don't text when your table is ready--you must wait in the vicinity and be there when they call your name. Bummer. We will definitely return but will try to avoid a weekend night.
google avatar

Cheryl H.

Yelp
The French onion soup is a must! This place is a gem, it get really busy on the weekends so I recommend making a reservation. They have the best staff, very attentive and friendly. I got the chicken sandwich, super good. And they have an excellent beer selection. We will be back!

Yelp
We have been coming to Mammoth Lakes every year for the last 5 ski seasons. Without fail, this restaurant has consistently served the highest quality food and cocktails you can find anywhere in this town. It never misses. After spending several days on the slopes eating over-priced and mediocre food, or exploring the town and being underwhelmed at the dining options, Mammoth Tavern is an absolute gem with high quality food, amazing beverages, and exceptional service.

Yelp
This place was a tiny bit confusing to find, but I'm glad I explored and didn't give up. Food, drinks and service were good. Views were even better. Not far from the bus stops if you're using the free transit system during winter. I will return.

Catherine M.

Yelp
I went on a very busy Thursday night and was accommodated within 10 minutes. The Moscow Mule made by my lovely bartender was one of the best I've ever had - and the poke bowl was fantastic. Friendly staff, great food, and fun atmosphere. Oh, and there's a view of the mountains as well!
google avatar

Yelp
I was up in town the night before a backpack weekend, and my buddies and I pooped in for a bite and a drink. The place is comfortable and the burgers are huge and tasty. I had a cocktail, which was really good, and my friends had beers, of which there is a quality selection. If I were skiing or otherwise starving from a long day of outdoor recreation (as opposed to just an all-day drive), this spot would definitely hit the spot and get me recharged for the next day.
google avatar

Yelp
Loved this place! Its super small so it fills up fast. Tried a new curry drink and it was delicious. Our table loved all our food choices. We tried Sheppard's pie which was amazing, poke bowl and the fondue. We would all come back again next trip in town!
google avatar

Yelp
Went with friends for dinner and we've been many times and loved it. Last night was no exception except our appetizer took longer to arrive and food was a little cold. (4) Not sure what the issue was but the food was still tasty but I would have preferred it hot. Love my favorite drink which is not on the menu, butterfly kiss. So pretty and tasty. Many tvs around to catch all sports and a full bar will keep you happy! Happy hour menu is great (4:30-5:30) and includes food from the full menu. Great deal! Enjoy!!

Yelp
Great food, service and ambiance. Great June Lake Pale Ale. Try the beans and rice and Cubano.
google avatar

Samantha S.

Yelp
We love the cheese fondue, Brussels (better when it was pistachios), sticky ribs, man n cheese and burger. Be prepared for a long wait some evenings (the service can be really slow). Good drinks.
google avatar

Yelp
The best go to when in Mammoth, the wait can get ridiculous but you know why. The food comes out in perfect taste, cocktails done right and service just great. We always wait for the Bar since it's the fastest way to get in and eat and just a nice spot to sit. Small spot but great place after a day of boarding.
google avatar

Deadra T.

Yelp
A place we return to time and time again. The food is delicious. We always get the short rib grilled cheese, side salad, the burger and shepherds pie. Never disappoints! The service is always friendly and fast. The ambiance is that of a cabin like, mountain lodge bar. Beautiful views while eating. Full bar. Happy Hour menu. TVs near bar. Ample parking as it is located in a strip mall. Keep in mind, it is upstairs. You need to walk inside strip mall entrance and take the stairs up to your right. Cheers!
google avatar

Lynn T.

Yelp
Small, Bar-style place with limited seating. Daily specials are unique and very good. Service is mediocre- only had 2 waiters/waitress. Have to have patience or want to be there awhile. Recommend small groups when dining here.
google avatar

Cheryl T.

Yelp
We had a great time at Mammoth Tavern! Service was amazing! Our server Madison was super friendly and conversational. Our French onion soup and grilled cheese with short ribs were delicious! Drinks were great, too!
google avatar

Ryan L.

Yelp
The beau and I went to Mammoth just before the snow season to get some mountain time and relax. Few places were open but we were so glad that Mammoth Tavern was. The bar and restaurant are located on the second floor in a shopping center. The place is small but we were early enough to find a spot (and take advantage of the happy hour specials.) The drinks here were really good. They were interesting and complex and made so well. I was very impressed. The food was excellent. A lot of the small bites were standouts for me. The short rib grilled cheese was good, but more ribby than cheesy. The meatballs were ok. But the chips and dip, French onion soup, croquettes, were all excellent. If you're in the area, be sure to stop by here.

April G.

Yelp
Excellent food and view. Service is a tad good but wish more servers (our server looked overwhelmed). Nonetheless, our family enjoyed them.
google avatar

Amanda B.

Yelp
Mammoth Tavern is one of the best spots for dinner in Mammoth Lakes! There is an amazing view of the mountains. The staff and service is wonderful and friendly. The owner Jessica was personal and caring. And the French Onion Soup was to die for. I practically licked the bowl. Yum!!! So much cheesy goodness. If you are visiting mammoth, get the French Onion Soup after a long day of fishing and hiking. Comfort food! Also if there is a wait for a table, walk across the street to Distant Brewing for some beer. Mammoth Tavern was excellent and I can't wait to come back!!!
google avatar

Misha M.

Yelp
This restaurant is cozy and welcoming inside. They have a cocktail menu of interesting drinks. I tried two of the mezcal cocktails and they were okay. The shepards pie was also okay but a bit overpriced for what it was. The service was friendly but the food and drinks were slow to come out, however they were apologetic about it. Overall it is somewhere I would come again and try other dishes because I liked the ambiance.

Marc D.

Yelp
Small place but worth the wait. We went on a Thursday night 6pm and it was busy and we had a 15 min wait. Everything our table of 4 ordered was excellent: drinks and food
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
Really good food and excellent service. Ryan was our server and was attentive, friendly, and easily answered all of our questions. The short rib grilled cheese was delicious, as was the spinach and artichoke dip. The grilled peach with burrata was incredible. Only complaint is it gets a little warm because the place is upstairs. Still very much worth it.
google avatar

Lisa B.

Yelp
We went on a recommendation and this place did not disappoint! The ambiance was perfect for a mountain bar/restaurant! Lots of wood elements, TVs, yummie food, great cocktails and great service! We had the "special" appetizer which was toasted bread with a baked garlic spread, we also shared the Sticky Ribs and Blackened Ahi. All were delicious!! I had the Jalapeño Miso that was sooo good! I would definitely have it again!
google avatar

Barry F.

Yelp
Food is off the chart amazing! Drinks are good. You need to get there at least 20 minutes before they open because it's very popular. The servers were very nice but there was not enough of them for the amount of people. When you get seated, figure out what you want to eat and drink and order at one time. Actually order two drinks because it takes awhile. It's an amazing place but plan ahead and have a plan. Will definitely come back but will take my own advice.
google avatar

Joey M.

Yelp
What's with these people? Talk about pompous, aloof and terribly unaccommodating. They're turning out cheeseburgers and they act like they're the Four Seasons Wailea. And the lady at the front desk is a complete jabroni. Waste of time and energy. Skip.
google avatar

Matt P.

Yelp
Not really impress with this place. The food was just ok. Service was ok. Parking is not ideal, but I have to add that the snow is covering part of the parking lot. If you want to get a beer and snack on some food, then this is a great place. But I don't know if I would come here for the food.
google avatar

Tiffanie D.

Yelp
Wow I'm surprised this place doesn't have more reviews, great find in the non village mammoth area. Happy hour everyday including weekends. Stumbled upon it when I came at 5:00pm and it ended at 5:30pm. Had a pretty good spinach artichoke dip that was F F F RESH ingredients. Also a superb beef rib grilled cheese. Also got the brussel sprouts that were amazing and sheperds pie. I saw people eating fondue around me and was like uhm what?! Next time I'm definitely getting that because it looked delicious. Aside from beer selection on tap they had good cocktails! Blonde ale was good, muscow mule on happy hour Service was amazing. Waitress pretty attentive and everything came in timely fashion Super nice ambiance on the second floor and floor to ceiling windows

Yelp
It's a little loud, is a great place to have dinner. Service is fast snd good. Food looks... see the photos !!

Yelp
Excellent service, ambiance and food. One of the best meals we had at mammoth. It's very small, rustic and has a lot of charm. It's comfort food done extremely well. Get the fondue for sure and the burger was pretty great.

Amber B.

Yelp
The fondue was fantastic. Beautiful place, friendly people, and excellent food and drinks.

Grisel A.

Yelp
The staff was friendly and that was probably the only great thing going here. missed our appetizer, and got our order wrong which I knew she would when she didn't write anything down. Drinks came out in dirty cups twice cancelled after the third try must have been the soda dispenser or ice machine either way gross. I don't see the hype on this place, I'm sure locals like it because they get great service and the usuals. However everyone else good luck.

Yelp
We came to mammoth lake for a curling competition at LA Kings ice center. During the lunch break, we went to one restaurant and had awful food there. After sweeping hard and throwing so many rocks, we really wanted something to make our stomachs happy and feel relaxed. We came to this place and we were very satisfied with all the dishes and drinks we had (except pickles- they gave a half-cut pickle and put it on the top of the burger). Roasted garlic was a bomb. Mahi mahi was crispy outside and soft tender inside. Bok choy was seasoned well. I wasn't a fan of broken ice but it was tasty and I finished it all. My husband loved his burger with Dijon mustard sauce and salad. The only complaint he had was that half cut pickle. But he was picky about his pickles. Drinks had many varieties and they had mocktails. Staffs were very friendly and also cracked a couple of jokes. We will be back when we visit mammoth lake next time.
google avatar

Yelp
This is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is tasty. I had the burger . . . one of the best. The service is friendly. But the ambiance is amazing. Every table has a view of the High Sierra mountains in Mammoth.
google avatar

Dale C.

Yelp
I will give 3.5 stars. Food was good. Service good. Drinks way overpriced. Very hot inside and noisy. Bring earplugs.

Jim C.

Yelp
Food was great. Service was better. This is a favorite every time we are in Mammoth.

Yelp
My wife and I were staying in Mammoth for a week of hiking and relaxation. The Tavern was within walking distance of our Air BnB. We came for dinner one night. We arrived early which was good because the place completely filled up. The restaurant is upstairs with a view of the Sherwins, which is nice. Our server was attentive, but not particularly friendly. At one point my wife asked her if she could switch the TV to the Padre/Dodger baseball game, as I'm from San Diego. This seemed to put her off, though she did ask the bartender to make the change. My wife ordered a cup of French onion soup and a Portabello mushroom wrap which she said was just OK and I had the shortrib sandwich. We both had fries. Neither of us was wowed. The shortribs were not flavorful. The fries were soft and seemed unseasoned. The Key Lime pie was good. Mammoth Tavern seems very popular and was recommended. My wife and I found it underwhelming.

Yelp
place is beautiful.... food was 4/10 service was shit waited over an hour for some mac and cheese and french fries that were extremely soggy , NOT worth the money....

Yelp
Just looking for a spot to eat later in the evening, and this popped up as open. Well, yes there was a wait, but surprisingly the food quality and taste made me forget about it. Everything was delicious and exceeded my expectations for bar/tavern food. Out of my norm, I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and OMG, it did not disappoint. Popping with flavor and way more than I could eat in 1 sitting, I truly enjoyed this meal. With limited options in town to choose from for a nice dinner out, this one will definitely be a contender
google avatar

N D.

Yelp
Not what it used to be. I used to love coming to Mammoth Tavern and visit pretty much every trip to Mammoth. But the last couple of times it's just really disappointed. The quality of the food has really depreciated in my experience while the prices have gone up considerably. I used the absolutely love the "Sheppard pie" (it's actually a cottage pie). It was always hearty and delicious and you would see one on every table. The last time we ordered it there was about 1/2 the amount of meat than we were expecting. Definitely not something that would fill up two people. At $30 it's no longer a go to order for us. This week my partner convinced me to go for happy hour. We ordered the salad which was delicious and the short rib grilled cheese. The grilled cheese was so disappointing. The cheese and short rib didn't even spread to the edges of the sandwich and the short ribs were so dry and tough. Cocktails were good but still not a deal for happy hour. Glasses of wine are about 4-5 ounces. Oysters were yummy. But overall there are much better options for dining in Mammoth. If you go to Mammoth Tavern for the spectacular view just grab a beer during happy hour and maybe dine elsewhere.
google avatar

Yelp
Best happy hour in town AND you can get it to-go if it's too crowded. After eating too much greasy bar food the night before and not feeling great, the food at Mammoth Tavern was exactly what I was looking for. Comforting, well made, higher quality sharable food, at the right price. Happy Hour takes place 4-5:30pm daily. I would recommend coming before 5pm to beat the crowd. The variety of food options on the happy hour menu is great and you can't beat the half off glass of wine, well cocktails, and draft beer options if dining in. On my visit, I ordered the Meatballs (HH $7) and Short Rib Grilled Cheese ($11) for take out. The portions were generous, especially in the protein department, for happy hour items. Everything was ready in about 15 minutes. I really enjoyed the flavors of the meatball. I especially enjoyed the ricotta that came with the meatball. The marinara paired surprisingly well with the Short Rib Grilled Cheese. Almost like a tomato soup and grilled cheese pairing. Short ribs in the grilled cheese was tender and the thick toast was perfectly buttered and grilled to perfection. What stood out to me about Mammoth Tavern was the quality of ingredients, down to the side salad and pickle. It was a really satisfying overall experience and I look forward to coming back.

Yelp
This was recommended to us years ago, but for some reason we never made it. What were we thinking? It was awesome from beginning to end. Ryan was our server and he was friendly, efficient and made great recommendations!! My wife and I started with some specialty cocktails: the Crimson Summer and Watermelon Sugar. They were delicious!!! We then ordered the oysters. We had three of the standard and three Asian. So fresh and so good! I also had the ahi "starter" which was enough of a meal with a side of rice. There is a secret menu item we were told not to share but it was awesome. Amazing service. Superb food. Great vibe. I rarely give five stars. This was so worth it.

Yelp
Went to the Mammoth Tavern for dinner and drinks with the family, while visiting Mammoth for the week. We took advantage of the happy hour prices that were available from 4:00 to 5:30 and by coming early we were able to be seat immediately. However an hour later the place was packed. We had a few drinks that were very well made. My Kentucky mule was excellent. The food was also on point, we had appetizers of oysters, (were really fresh and tasty), pork belly bites, (which was also good) and the house made chips and onion dip was a crowd pleaser. For dinner it was the fondue plater which was something unique to experience, but everyone enjoyed. The entire experience was capped off by incredible views of the snow capped mountains which Mammoth is known for. So if you're in Mammoth, you might want to give them a try.

Paresh D.

Yelp
Great service from Madison I appreciate the limited, but diverse menu. Food was very good and will be back

Yelp
Very tasty food with decent beer and drink selection, very crowded at happy hour. Fairly small space though. Excellent service. As everything, it's pricey these days. $100 for two with drinks and food during happy hour. The pretzels were delicious and they had a great gazpacho topped with 2 perfectly grilled shrimp. Onion rings were a bit undercooked but would have been perfect otherwise. Fried chicken sandwich was just way too salty! Everything we had bordered on too salty but the perfectly crisp coating on the chicken was just not edible due to salt. So I just sadly pulled the crispy crust off. Should have tried the meatballs as they looked and smelled amazing.
