"Mamoun’s Falafel has popularized the falafel sandwich on several campuses in New York and New Jersey since 1971, and also serves as a haven for vegetarians and those who like to eat quasi-healthy, for a meal or two at least. The Middle Eastern menu is bare bones, but is vegetable heavy, wholesome, and the perfect thing to take on a picnic or for a quick bite in the way to class. The Rutgers branch is the chain’s most luxurious looking." - Robert Sietsema

Google
Their signature falafel sandwiches are awesome. Recipe never changed and it’s been a treat every time we order. Their hummus was very salty, if you are in a low sodium diet, stay away from their hummas. Their hot sauce is so hot it literally burns your mouth. So 2oz is goes a long way. Over all very good experience and one of fav stops for a quick bite. Oh btw, you can never find parking by that place. We parked like two streets away and walked to get there.

Google
Order the platter which I was told Serves 10-12 ppl , even purchased extra meat and got burnt chicken and shawarma. Plus it Was so cold , which shows it was not made to order at the time I requested. When we called no one helped, they said this is how it is. And even at pick up the person at the desk was not very nice. Won’t be order again.

Google
First time visiting this location. Somehow it was missing the original taste and quality from the one in Hoboken and also in NY area. Almost same menu and vegetarian options. The quality of Baklava wasn’t good surprisingly! The famous “ Hot sauce” same taste and same kick too. No parking, you ll have to find street parking. Limited seating space. Quick service. Staff were good , friendly. Preferred to order upfront via online or through the other food delivering services.

Google
Taste was absolutely good and authentic also the must try is there tahini & hot sauce on side. With falafel 🥙 with olives & pikes 👍🏻💯

Google
Good food, but Mamoun's Falafel in New Brunswick must hire counter help based on mobile phone prowess, as opposed to customer service skills. Bad enough that you have to catch their attention, so engrossing are those phones, but when my companion had a question, the girl shoved a menu in our faces, as if it would hurt her data plan to answer. I will not return. Swipe that! Also: Mamoun's offers only counter service; no wait staff. Yet, they embarrass customers with a tip jar. Here's a tip: Don't put the bite on people who are picking up their orders.

Google
Mamoun’s Falafel is hands down the best spot for falafel—crispy on the outside, perfectly fluffy on the inside, and packed with flavor. Their lamb platter is incredible—juicy, tender, and seasoned to perfection. The vegetarian platter is just as amazing, loaded with fresh ingredients and bold flavors. One thing you have to do is order the garlic sauce and hot sauce—they take everything to the next level! The combination of flavors is absolutely delicious, and every bite is satisfying. If you’re craving authentic, high-quality Mediterranean food, this is the place to go. 10/10 would recommend!

Google
Great Falafel restaurant, with amazing taste and texture. The Falafel was so good, and the sandwich was full and delicious. Other options including Kabab and chicken which was fine. Parking might be an issue sometimes. The place was small in size from inside. Overall good experience.

Google
I ordered from Mamouns thinking I’m getting a full platter with rice and falafel and chicken (which I paid extra) but I got a half eaten looking platter. Didn’t even touch it

Yelp
Fantastic - everything was fresh and delicious. Falafel is the best in New Brunswick.

Bijal R.

Yelp
Some of the best falafel in NJ. Glad there are locations in NYC as well. Fresh and quality ingredients. Love the hummus and the hot sauce has the perfect kick. Great for catering as well.

Yelp
I've been an avid fan of Mamoun's Falafel in NYC since the 1980s. I haven't had it in years but when I saw it in New Brunswick, NJ I just had to give it a try. Things have certainly changed since the old standby for falafel started in 1971 in Manhattan. When you walk into the restaurant there are a few large screen kiosks to place your order, pay, and add your name. However, I was pleasantly surprised that the taste, quality, and enjoyment of their falafel hasn't changed at all. I ordered the Manhattan sandwich which was a falafel in a pita with falafel, hummus, baba ganouj, tabbouleh, pickles, pickled turnips, and olives. It was heaven in every bite and I cannot wait to go back to continue to indulge in this consistently delicious food that has stood the test of time!

Yelp
Was trying to order from mamouns Princeton location but uber eats app took me to this location .Placed a order, within a minute realized its new brunswick location and called them to cancel the order. They asked me to cancel from the app and they mentioned they not going to prepare the food . I immediately canceled the order from uber eats app and they said they going to refund me within 7 days but after 3 days they charged my card stating merchant has already started your order , so you were charged .

Hemant B.

Yelp
Ordered a classic sandwich, which includes falafel and humus. But instead received a beef shawarma. When I called back all I was told that the lady who picked up my phone that she'll send a note to their manager. I really want a refund plus apology for sending me beef

Namron L.

Yelp
The lentil soup is good, not too salty, shawarma/lamb & West Village are served with ice cold veggies, which I did not like, big portions, good amount of seating, restroom.

Sanika K.

Yelp
AVOID; the recent reviews are accurate! I ordered two chicken kebab sandwiches and they were soooo bad!! The vegetables were not fresh at all, the pita was so thin and dry, and the chicken just didn't taste good. They have some type of sauce but it wasn't tahini and when I smelt it I wanted to throw it out. The only good thing about visiting here was the quick service and kind employees. The restaurant overall looked clean and it's a good place to sit down and eat but also not that much space to bring in a big party. The food looks good but tasted nowhere near to that level. Thank goodness I got these two for free because I would never pay for these. Skip this place and go to King of Gyro a block down; never coming back!

Yelp
Famous Mamoun's of the West Village NYC has an equally excellent and more spacious and modern counterpart in New Brunswick NJ! Get your belly full of fresh felafel, hummus, baba ganoujh, tabuleh, chicken and beef shawarma, pickled radishes and so much more served with the freshest pillows of pita, excellent garlic sauce and a hot sauce that is NOT for amateurs. Newly added touch screen ordering systems installed and a very fresh modern interior makes ordering quality delicious Middle East foods a breeze (hand sanitizer at each station too!) If you love Middle East foods, Mamoun's is not to be missed while in New Brunswick.

Yelp
Decided to stop in today and give this location another chance. Service is non existent . Mamouns staff acknowledging your presence, simply does not happen. Tables dirty and the staff just hanging out behind the counter. I really regret tipping. Stop hiring young kids that dont care about your business. No music playing either. Just me, dead silence and staff buried in their phones. Food was average and nothing like the quality you get at the nyc location. When im in new brunswick and im hungry for a gyro , ill go to efes. Pictures below.

Yelp
We really liked their food last time especially the Knafe, that we ordered 6 of it along with falafels & their garlic / hot sauce. We wanted our family to enjoy it as much as we did. While the Falafel & sauces were excellent , the Knafe was stale & had a weird smell . It was definitely old stuff sitting around or the ingredients used was old. Either way the dessert part of our meal was a total flop & wasted. I was completely sold on the Knafe from the last time , that despite my family mentioning an odd smell, i convinced them that it's the natural aroma and asked them to try it. They took couple of big bites and tried swallowing it with a not so happy look, and to probably make me happy, asked me for it's name . I proudly said it's Knafe a Mediterranean dessert loaded with nuts & honey and went on to taking my big bite! Within couple of seconds I had to spit it out as I couldn't handle the smell & knew it was clearly not fresh. I felt sorry for convincing & kinda forcing my family to eat stale food only because I trusted the food from Mamouns based on my prior experience. I understand things go wrong sometimes, but an entire order of 6 Knafe's being bad is not acceptable. It indicates they are storing & selling old stuff. It could be true that food or dessert is not moving as fast as pre pandemic times , but selling stale food to customers is not the way to run a business as it will result in losing the few loyal customers ! Hopefully Mamoun's will do better next time!

Yelp
Ordered felafel sandwich, shawarma on pita, lentil soup and shawarma platter. The person in our party who ate the shawarma platter enjoyed it. It was good. The lentil soup was ok. It has tasted better and less watery in the past. The pita chips are good and flavorf The falafel sandwich was light on falafel and was off needing more lettuce etc. The shawarma sandwich was ok.

Kathie L.

Yelp
Usually love Mamouns BUT... They really skimped on the amount of meat and sauce in my platter. Most Mamouns always pack my platters generously with meat, but not this time. Food was also subpar, drier than usual, and so little meat!

Tracy T.

Yelp
Good spot if you're looking for a quick bite! The service was pretty quick and they have kiosks for ordering. Ordered the combo plate with falafel, hummus, and baba ganoush which came with a pita. It was very flavorful and filling though it was a tad too salty for me.

Amish B.

Yelp
Food is okay/good. Service is absolutely terrible. But they know that and choose to do nothing. Unfortunately ruining a good brand/name. A couple things: - super rude staff (obviously don't want to be there . . . Here's a tip then don't be there) - order of three items - got two wrong - had to come back to get one item fixed. How you mix a salad with a Baba Ganoush. By time I realized sandwiches were wrong too I didn't want to go back a 3rd time. If management doesn't give a shit; customers will stop giving a shit and stop coming. Good luck!

Brad M.

Yelp
Paid for swarms and just got falafel. The falafel was still very good. (But less expensive than what I paid for). Make sure you pay attention to what you get.

AJ B.

Yelp
I'm used to the original in NYC. I've ordered from this location a few times. Don't order the falafel sandwich unless you enjoy bread and lettuce. I ordered the lamb Shwarma more than once and it seems like they enjoy serving customers cold meat. It's one thing if it were warm, but I'm taking cold meat that's probably been left out in a metal bucket for hours.

Joyce K.

Yelp
After hearing many good things about Mamoun's, my friend and I decided to give a try and order takeout from there Friday evening. We placed the online order at around 5 pm and to our surprise, we received a text notifying us that our order was ready less than 10 minutes later! Upon entering the location, we were quickly handed our order upon request. We got the falafels and fries as a side and the chicken plate with rice and no pickles or turnips. Sadly, we thought that the meal was underwhelming, the portion sizes were small, the falafels weren't great, and the food was quite salty. Our experience was quite disappointing, but maybe if we tried different items on the menu our experience would have been more positive!

Stephanie C.

Yelp
I ordered the St. Mark's sandwich and an order of baba ganouj. I liked the sandwich, I just wish the meat was cut a bit smaller. It seem like there were only five big cubes of meat that made it difficult to eat. The baba ganouj was amazing! And it came with plenty of pita. I also got an order of the baklava and mabrumeh. They were both delicious and worth checking out. A word of caution, the hot sauce is extremely hot! A few drops goes a long way. I would order from here again and try something different from the menu.

VeVe E.

Yelp
Great food!!! Quality catering service. Will order in future. Recommend to anyone looking to cater a party.

Alina K.

Yelp
I love Mamoun's but this location had the rudest employees (at the front). The short brunette at the front counter on May 15 should not be in customer service. She was extremely rude to me and every other customer. I suggest taking your business elsewhere

Janice L.

Yelp
I was in town for work and saw this place while walking around and had to try it! I'm so glad I did. I had the lamb shwarma on a salad (there's a rice option as well). The lamb was so good! The pita that came with it was okay. I also had a mint lemonade, though the mint taste was barely perceptible. If I'm ever in the area again I'll be sure to visit.

Reena R.

Yelp
We have been to 3 locations and the food is delicious. This time we went after a year and it seemed like the portions are smaller, and like everywhere else the prices have gone up. This was disappointing but we still love the tasty sandwiches and will keep going back.

Haroon G.

Yelp
Aint anything wrong here! I just love their hot sauce and the mango juice! I have been to Manhattan spots but was pleasantly surprised they have one on Easton Av right opposite to CINJ/Rutgers. My stomach will be peaceful now for a long time! I find that their hot sauce given in small cups in store is hotter than what they sell in bottles, just an polite palate query, anyone else felt that?

Sharon L.

Yelp
Good food, bad service ! I like pita chips. To be honest I only recommend food cus is cheap. The services it was terrible.

Karl S.

Yelp
Food is just okay. Don't expect the quality from a sit-down middle Eastern restaurant like Sahara. The bread was honestly a bit sad (crumbly and not fresh tasting), baba ghanoush was a little disappointing (too hummusy), the sandwich was what was expected but nothing more (see the picture, it will tell you). But why am I giving 4 stars? Convenience. It's fast, reasonably not unhealthy, and the price is fair (not super cheap either though). If you want middle Eastern without the hassle of going to a great place, this is a viable option.

Pedro P.

Yelp
Two bad visits in a row. Meat and veggies not fresh. Tomato mushy. Meat was dried out and flakey. Olives old. Will not return.

Sunil L.

Yelp
Food 4 stars Price / value for money 2 stars It has become high end version of fast food of falafel place At 40% less price - I would give it a solid 4 stars With whole wheat pita option and 40% discount - 4.5 stars The taste does not seem original. Food tastes good but not great Would I still come back to this place - sure when I have no other healthy option. Cheers

Stuart H.

Yelp
No longer takes cash phone orders. There's no parking, it's Easton ave new Brunswick. So it's now impossible for me to call in an order, park illegally for 30 seconds, pop in and grab my food. Making things inconvenient for people that still use cash is bad business.

Anu V.

Yelp
My go-to spot for falafel. Hummus is amazing. Very spicy hot sauce. Some of the best spiced ice tea.

Mason L.

Yelp
Pleasantly Surprised to see this outside of Manhattan. We got the lamb sandwich and the falafel plate. Very tasty, and not very expensive. Also fairly centrally located. Nice to eat outside when the weather is nice. Would highly recommend them!

Jason M.

Yelp
Part of my order was missing. So I tried calling the restaurant multiple times to get no answer. Trying to get a hold of somebody there it's like next to impossible. Never mind the fact that i drive 20 min To get there to pick up my food. So I drive all the way back another 20 min after I relize I'm missing my desserts and I tell the guy who was at the register. I was just here 40 min ago and I was missing my 2 desserts i ordered. And I had my receipt in hand. He got really nasty and told me I should have called the restaurant lmao... I'm my mind I'm like is this guy joking he proceeded to tell me how busy it was and I proceeded to let him know I already did call the restaurant and nobody answered. So he continued to become more nasty and I told him you think I'm going to drive back and forth 20min in each direction to heckle you over 2 desserts I paid for. I'm the last person to look for some type of handout !! People like this have no respect, there just mad at the world but you know what I def won't be coming back here again unless the president of the company calls me !!! This is absurd how i was treated over 2 missing desserts. Lesson here is check your bags before you leave the restaurant they staple them up really nice making you think all your food is there and you come home to find out there Incompetent worker who don't give one flying hoot about his job and how the customer is treated. OHHHH and by the way the Shawarma was dry and had no flavor... back in Manhattan this don't happen. This place is a fraud they have no right to carry the Mamoun's legacy.

Jay P.

Yelp
One of the worst places I've ever been! I paid $14 for rice and dry falafel, the chef forgot to add salad. This is the second time this has happened! Franchises need to be re-elevated throughout the entire store and customer service!

Sam S.

Yelp
Shocked to be writing this but we have came numerous times and it's always amazing but today was different. The falafel was hard not soft and looked a bit burnt. The pita was ripped for all of our sandwiches. We ordered fries and we got 1/3 of what we usually get. The mint lemonade had only a bit of mint where as it is us at flooded with mint. Not a horrible experience but not a a great one. Don't think we will drive all the way here again just for this place. Place has been updated and is very clean though.

Hannah R.

Yelp
Mamoun's is always a solid choice in my opinion. It's affordable, quick, and tasty and honestly you can never go wrong with Mamoun's especially if you just need a quick meal. My friend ordered two sandwiches, honestly don't even know which ones he ordered but he killed them real quick. I ordered the falafel plate with salad and really enjoyed it. The falafel was crispy and seasoned well. I was afraid as we had it delivered and it might've gone soggy as I ate it a bit after we got it, but it wasn't soggy at all. It was also pretty filling. The sauce is so spicy but definitely adds a level of flavor to it.

Von A.

Yelp
I got the Macdougal - which was basically a pita sandwhich with falafel with scharma meat in it. It was super tasty, packed with meat, and the pita was soft and satisfying. I'd definitely come here and try some of their other options. Also did get the baklava, which was too sweet (probably wouldn't recommend this one).

Michele L.

Yelp
Dropping down to a two star now because on top of the poor experience, management reached out below via Yelp for me to contact them via email. While I was surprised and happy to see they seemed to care I reached out via email to them promptly including screenshots and they never responded back. I feel like if they ask you to reach out to rectify the situation they should at least follow through and not do it just to take it look like they care on Yelp. I'll update this if they ever get back to me..#ghosted

Ellen P.

Yelp
So delicious! My West Village Falafel was tasty, all fresh ingredients. I would definitely order this again. My husband had the classic falafel. Great taste, great prices. Baklava for dessert. So good!! Will definitely return.

Alex L.

Yelp
Did you ever pass by a place hundreds of times and not try it? This is that place. I always go to Noodle Gourmet and Efes in the area but never tried this place. I'm glad I did. It's a interesting fast casual joint that sells Kebabs, shawarmas, and different platters. I tried the kebab platter and it was excellent. The rice was cooked just right, not too soft or hard. The veggies on the side were fresh and the meat was very juicy. Executed perfectly. The drizzle of white sauce on top took this Platter over the top. Next time will try the shawarmas as well.

Peter V.

Yelp
Sent the wrong order, declined to take ownership of the mistake or to rectify it in the most basic way possible - by refunding my money. Do not appreciate the unprofessionalism.

Josh B.

Yelp
Easy ordering and quick service, but bad food. I had a sandwich with shawarma and falafel and was a couple bites in when I realized the meat smelled like bad breath and tasted off. The falafel and other fillings also weren't anything special. Threw out the rest. Hoping I don't get food poisoning...

Raj S.

Yelp
Always love Mamouns food. Esp their hot sauce with wraps. And baklava of course :). Parking is a bit of headache .. you will probably park 5 mins away ... shawarma is really good . For veggie lovers there is always falafel .. hummus is also good. Overall a very good place for Mid East food .. service is quick ...

Pierre D.

Yelp
The counter person says after I asked for hot sauce " hold on" with an attitude rolled her eyes with a mug and shoved the bag at me while turning her back, " Princeton" mangar right there wishing " a good day " to me...Thanks for the horrible service period.

Edward C.

Yelp
I stopped by Mamoun's for a quick lunch and I was quite satisfied with the meal. Setup as a quick bite type of restaurant, inside is quite cozy and nicely decorated. I selected the Combo Plate consisting of falafel, hummus, fool mudammas, and added Kafta Kebob over salad. Falafels were very good, super crispy on the outside, and inside was nicely textured and warm. They were seasoned well with a hint of heat too. Hummus was solid; rich and slightly textured, but what made it tastier was the red pepper seasoning spread on top. The Fool Mudammas was excellent! It's texture was thick and slightly chunky with a flavor not too far off from Tahini. The Kafta interestingly was in a patty form versus the more common sausage cylindrical shape. Nicely grilled and seasoned, it was tasty, but not the best Kafta I've eaten. Served on the table is Mamoun's hot sauce which was quite hot and spicy, even for my high tolerance to hot and spicy foods. I wound up dosing most of my platter with the sauce, which I later found out was a mistake...you can take an educated guess on what happened afterwards. Service was exceptionally friendly and efficient, from the cordial young lady at the register to one of the kitchen staff who was also helping clean off tables. A solid quick bite but nothing great.

Maulik M.

Yelp
Mamoun's was my go to post-partying stop while in New Brunswick area. It's located on Easton ave, across the street from Stuff Yer Face! This is a very inexpensive no-frills restaurant built around falafel and pita bread. They serve the typical middle-eastern fare in either pita bread or as a platters. I loved their mint lemonade. They do have a few meat dishes as well at significantly higher prices but whether vegetarian or meat the prices are competitive. The service was quick and friendly. It's a small place with few tables. Seating is limited, so stagger and sway home with a girlfriend in one arm, and a bag filled with falafel and hummus platter in the other. Definitely stop by if you're in the mood for some quick and tasty Mediterranean dishes!

Amanda G.

Yelp
This is a great location and every time we're headed home from visiting family in Maryland we stop by this college town to pick up some strombolis as well as some shwarma from Mamoun's. It's almost always packed when we visit and the food is super fresh. The ordering process is efficient and we never have to wait too long for our food. We always grab a few of their sweet treats which we never get a chance to have at the NYC location. Red sauce and white sauce is A MUST. Long live the Falafel!

Rafiul I.

Yelp
Always delicious. Hot sauce is super spicy be warned. Why does yelp force me to keep writing? This isn't a complicated place just has tasty food.

Katarina L.

Yelp
I lived off of $4.00 falafel in college. The falafel sandwich is perfectly filling. I think falafel can run the risk of being mushy almost if it isn't cooked done enough but I've never had that problem here. The falafel is crispy, warm and flavorful. The lettuce adds more texture which I appreciate. The other veggies on the sandwich always taste fresh and same goes for the pita. I always leave a happy camper. I do wish that they used romaine instead of iceberg lettuce, that is just my preference though. I also always make sure that I ask for extra sauce because it can be a bit dry without it. Besides the falafel, the hummus is creamy and delicious and if you just want a little side with pita, it won't run you a lot of money at all. Their platters come with more food so are a great choice for dinner while the sandwich is my choice for an easy lunch. I am a huge carnivore but still for some reason always get their falafel. It's honestly that good. And imagine my joy when I graduated and moved to Hoboken, leaving my beloved Mamoun's behind, and found out that they had a location down the block from my new apartment! Thanks for getting me through my college years! I owe ya big time!

A J.

Yelp
Mamouns was delish before it started franchising. The New Brunswick location is an ideal franchise example. Dried hard falafels, doused in thinned out tahini. It's still an OK sandwich. Service - this is what got the rating from today. The lady at the counter SHAMA was watching while she took my " take out" order. I could tell she was wondering if I'd leave a tip. So she started baiting. SHAMA - do you want tahini Me - sure on the side only if it's no charge. SHAMA - nods in affirmation SHAMA - what about in teh sandwich Me - sure if it's no charge ( I forgot that it's always included) SHAMA. - sure. I finish with a generous tip. Opened bag at home: No tahini on side. Sandwich as usual No big deal SHAMA goes home with tip SHAMA failed to communicate that I can get tahini for an additional charge. Lesson for SHAMA and team - don't shyest; but upfront and honest and you'll get what you want. Lesson for Mamouns - encourage your employees for repeat customers. Mamouns WAS the number one falafel choice but that was ages ago. You have competition. And even if you think you don't, the quality and service tricks by your staff encourage people to start competing!!!

Alina M.

Yelp
I don't really understand what the hype is about this place. It's ok, but nothing special or out of the ordinary. I got the chicken platter and found the chicken to be rather rubbery and dry. From what I heard, it's not always like this so I guess I got it on an off night (I would definitely give it another chance if the opportunity presents itself). The flavors are definitely really good. If the consistency of the chicken was better, I would consider it to be on the higher end quality-wise for chicken and rice. I actually really liked the salad a lot because I felt like it was more unique than other places because it had additions like pickled turnips (at least I'm pretty sure that's what that was) and onions. Rice is pretty good as well. And seriously, watch out for the hot sauce. Before you go adding spoonfuls of it to your food, taste just one drop. I don't think you'll want to go any further after that because it'll just ruin your whole dish if you overdo it. And this is coming from someone that eats really spicy food on a daily basis. Don't be that one "tough guy" who ends up using an entire box of tissues by the end of the meal. No one wants to see that.

Joanne P.

Yelp
Not sure what happened this time but everything was off today.. Ordered a combo plate with chicken and 2 West Villages. First, on arrival I asked for some extra tahini which now they want to charge for. $25 of food and just 3 half filled tahini? Really? Last several times we've gone this was never an issue. Then when getting home and opening the food up, the portions were scant. The pitas weren't filled and just 5 pieces of chicken for the 4.50 extra chicken added to the combo plate. What happened here? I'd rather spend the money at other mediterranean locations where though it's more expensive, at least you get more food. Lost this customer for a couple of tahini
