The Best Fried Chicken in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"Manchu is a Seventh Ward hole-in-the-wall place, known for fried chicken wings and yak-a-mein. It’s also local legend Big Freedia’s favorite fried chicken in New Orleans. The fried wings are insanely delicious (with a spicy kick on the finish), awesome for party platters needed on the cheap and quick. There’s also fried boneless chicken used in Chinese dishes like fried rice. Parking is tough, but don’t let that scare you off." - Beth D’Addono

I always go to Manchu because the chicken is always hot, fresh, and delicious. You get a lot of food for a great price, and they’re super fast! The portions are huge, and the staff is always friendly. Definitely my go-to spot for tasty, affordable chicken.

If you go here the chicken is very seasoned and good. The rice was not good at all. So I advise to just get chicken and go during the day cause it's a sketchy neighborhood.

Being from Houston, TX when you order shrimp fried rice, that's what you get. I did not open the rice until I arrived back at my sister's house. MY MISTAKE! To my surprise, I did not know what the small orange stuff was on top of the rice! I thought it was carrots at first. As I looked further, it appears they put dehydrated shrimp on top of the rice. Who does this at their price? The fried chicken was good. It was hot, crispy, seasoned well and not salty. I spent a total of $158.00 for 150 chicken wings and a large shrimp fried rice! I started to bring the rice back!! Come on Manchu, yall can do better with the shrimp fried rice!!

WORST Chinese food that I have ever had!! I was working in the area but had never tried this place, before. And I kept it simple for my 1st visit & ordered shrimp fried rice but the shrimp were tiny & from a can. The rice itself was tasteless, gummy & bland. I ordered sweet & sour sauce on the side which costs extra. The sweet & sour sauce tasted like vinegar & was not sweet at all. Overall, my order was completely inedible & went in the trash. I will not be returning.

Yelp
Good Hood Store. Very New Orleans. I get 10 perfectly fried shrimp. With Fries or Rice. Service is good, itz nu rleanz. Ambiance is very modest, newly remodeled. Very vibrant. My go to spot. Always hitting hard.

Yelp
Stopped in at the "new " location; had been too impatient to wait out the old. Very basic menu, as you see elsewhere on Yelp. Tradional no nonsense Asian couner person. At the last second, changed my order to Buffalo style, fried rice on the side. My mistake; wings were soggy/sloppy upon getting home. A lesson from the great Stoic philosophers- stick with your initial plan. I hope you were not expecting Uncle Roger's fried rice; this was a few coin-sized shrimp and soy sauce. I could eat a bucket of white rice with soy, so okay by me. In the end, if you think you will like this, you likely will.

Yelp
Their fried chicken wings are amazing - well seasoned, not salty, nice and crispy. I ordered over the phone with a set time for pick - I was on time and so was my order! Love it!!!

Yelp
Best chicken Everrrrrrrr. When's ever I'm in New Orleans I make sure to stop here. The wait is long; but that's because it's dried fresh to order

Yelp
The best corner store food I've tasted in New Orleans had to go 2 days in a row while in town!

Yelp
My rating is based on the food alone. I visited the location that was not on N Claiborne. I can't remember the name of the street but it was in a seedy area and it appears to be a smaller purple building than the one on N Claiborne. Even though I was skeptical of the area I really wanted to try the chicken. My husband decided to go in while I parked on the side of the building and locked my doors. I definitely would not visit in the night time. He didn't take long to come back with hot fresh food. We had a 10 piece chicken wing and shrimp rice. At first I thought the shrimp were carrots in the rice based on their color. I was a little skeptical eating such red/orange colored shrimp but I must admit the rice was good! It tastes totally different from any shrimp rice that I've eaten before. The chicken was very good! Nicely seasoned and fried crispy. The price was under $6.00. I would like to go back but I will visit the other location, in the daytime of course!!

Yelp
This is a whole in the wall spot, but an overall great find! I spent about $5 total on a side of shrimp friend rice and a shrimp po boy on a bun! It was super crowded at the time due to it being Mardi Gras, but they managed to get my food and my 5 sister's food out in a timely manner. Food was excellent and service was great.

Yelp
Always the best pan of fried rice and pan of chicken wings for a party. Just give them about a 15-25 minute heads up. They will be able to support ur quick party needs.

Yelp
It was pretty good. I remember it being better years ago but still cheap hot and fast. It's a hood spot so cash only.

Yelp
The chicken wings are bomb af. For real, just get them as many as you can. The yakamein is a good hangover cure

Yelp
Don't be scared of the location. The food will make you forget all about it. I couldn't decide between the pork or the chicken wings oh well give me both. When I bit into the pork chop omg so flavorful I went from the wings to the pork chop back and forth oh yea did I mention this is a oriental joint
