Okay.....so......I believe the picture says it all. I was also going to say that this was likely going to be an unpopular opinion, considering the legendary status of Manco & Manco when considering "boardwalk shore pizza" but I don't really know what happened here. I was at the Phillies game at Citizen's Bank Park for the first game I have gone to in many years and I was immediately blown away by all the food choices that are there now. Part of me is now bothered that we didn't choose one of the various other spots that looked like they were offering delicious choices. However, we didn't want to spend too much time invested in getting a meal and were more concerned with grabbing a cold brew and finding our seats, so the thought was that this would fit the bill.
Let me start with the fact that the ordering was surprisingly easy, and the line wasn't insane, or jammed into some corner. The price also wasn't as wildly over-the-top as I had expected it to be, and the thought of enjoying a nice hot personal pizza on the standing deck while overlooking the field was a pretty sweet prospect. The flavors were not completely off or anything either. The cheese and sauce actually seemed to be of quality, although, they were not distributed all that well, and were patchy at best in spots.
The real problem with the whole experience was the crust. Anyone who enjoys pizza knows that the crust is paramount! It was so burnt and essentially flavorless, other than the offputting notes of charcoaled dough, that it stole any of the redeeming qualities of the pie right out from under its feet. Somewhere between a bunch of crackers overly toasted over an outdoor fire and something you've forgotten about on the grill for way too long, much of this was just a struggle to crunch through and none of the enjoyment of cheesy goodness one expects. Unfortunately, the next time I return for a game or any other event at CBP, I will make sure to be far, far away from Manco & Manco's and try out something else in the large selection here!
