Haven't been to Mancy's Italian in about three years, as I thought their menu had gotten a bit tired, but a work gift certificate brought me back, and I'm glad I returned!
For drinks, our waitress, though nice and attentive, didn't provide much guidance. After scanning the menu, I went for the cinnamon brown sugar old fashioned--delicious, albeit a tad sweet, but it is brown sugar infused so not surprised. The boyfriend opted for the white wine from their 'highlight' items menu, a good Pinot Grigio, nothing extraordinary but still tasty.
As for appetizers, we tried the arancini and both got the Della Casa salad. The salad, with its sweet vinaigrette and salty bacon, was just as I remembered--light and fresh. The arancini, light and fluffy with a pesto twist, were a pleasant surprise. They also served warm bread and oil and butter, a nice touch as I know they've tried changing their bread over the past couple decades. It was nice to see the classic back as the oil wasn't an option the last time I was there.
Moving on to the main course, I chose the baked tortellini (chef's special), and the boyfriend went for the polo alfredo. The alfredo was a significant upgrade from past experiences--delicious mushrooms and spinach, perfectly cooked noodles, and a creamy balance. My tortellini with red pepper sauce was enjoyable, but the chicken was a bit bland. It reminded me of bland boiled shredded chicken. The red pepper sauce and mushrooms and spinach were really good but the dish lacked depth of flavor. Maybe some garlic, salt, pepper, or red pepper flakes could enhance the flavor.
Dessert was the limoncello cheesecake. Flavor-wise, it was a perfect 10--the lemon curd was creamy and tart where I feel some restaurants are scared of too much lemon, they nailed it here. However, the texture of both the cheesecake and crust was a bit grainy, earning it a 7/10 for execution. Despite the texture issue, I'd order it again in a heartbeat
Overall, I'd rate the experience a 7.5/10. Really a 3.75/5 stars for taste but can't leave halves here. The ambiance is a bit dated, but the overall atmosphere is nice and relaxing. The waitstaff, though friendly and attentive, could add a touch more personalization. I'd say if you've been here in the past, and thought the same as I did in the beginning give it another go. They've definitely made some upgrades to the food and I am excited to go back and try more!
