Mandarin Grill + Bar

"This stylish room designed by the late Sir Terence Conran features a glass-fronted kitchen and fan-shaped reliefs on the ceiling, reminiscent of the hotel’s logo. The well-verse team puts a new spin on steakhouse classics like steak tartare and house-smoked salmon. Quality meat cuts from the U.S., Australia and Japan are grilled to perfection and guests can choose a starter and a dessert from the menu on top of their mains to make it a set meal." - Michelin Inspector

We came for Sunday roast over the Christmas break and have been back twice since then. The Sunday roast menu consists of a starter, optional egg dish, main and an array of desserts (you can choose as much or as little as you wish). I highly recommend the salmon as they carve it table side. The steak tartare was also very good with a generous amount of caviar on top. The prime rib roast is carved table side as well and you can ask them for thin or thick cut and the portion is quite generous. I also tried the lamb leg which was cooked really well. By the time you get to dessert you will be quite full, I have tried their apple crumble and sticky toffee pudding both very good.

The service is exceptionally attentive, and the food is exquisite and truly delicious. There’s a charming bar, separated from the restaurant, perfect for enjoying a drink before dinner. However, I experienced diarrheas a couple of times after dining, which was unfortunate.

Ordered set lunch only and not much pleasant surprise on food quality. Service quality is reasonable.

Other than the french sommelier (male) was rude and arrogant, the service was good as expected, especially the elder manager who spoke Cantonese was very attentive. Food was much worse compare to the last time I visited a couple years back, doubt I'll be going back soon.

The hotel apparently lost their old F&B director during Covid and it really shows. Went here for a lunch and a dinner. The food has significantly deteriorated and service was terrible. For the lunch we had what looked like a trainee serving us and he had to be gently asked to check with his seniors on various things several times as he did not appear to know the restaurant or the menu well. For dinner, service was slow (we even had to ask for the menu more than once) and very inattentive. Finished plates remained on the table uncleared for a long time. At one point a long green bean was left on the table (fell off a plate while it was being taken away). After it became clear that no one was going to clear it I picked it up with a tissue and double wrapped it. That tissue also remained uncleared for the remainder of the meal. At over HK$2500 per head this really was not acceptable. This place used to be a bit of an institution. Very sad to see what it has become.

Excellent dinner experience at Mandarin Grill+BAR March 2024 We have a wonderful time at Mandarin Grill+Bar tonight to celebrate my friend's birthday 🎂. We tried the Artistry moment 3 course menu. The beautiful presentation of every dishes was like the painting they picked. The food was tasty and well prepared. The staffs of Mandarin Grill+Bar are top notch. They are attentive, professional, very friendly. Thank you for their incredible professional and welcoming service. We appreciated all the staffs making my friend's birthday 🎂 unforgettable. It located 1st floor of Mandarin Oriental. The location is very convenience. Only 5 minutes walk from central MTR station. Highly recommend.

If you're looking for a restaurant with amazing desserts and friendly service, look no further than the Mandarin Grill and Bar. The set menus and in particular the fusion dessert (like a piece of modern art) here are simply divine. The service is equally impressive, with the staff going out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with a warm smile and seated promptly. The servers are knowledgeable about the menu and can make great recommendations. The ambiance is elegant and sophisticated, making it an ideal spot for a business lunch or a special occasion. A free gift at the end was also a very pleasant surprise. Overall, my favorite lunch place for clients. I always have a fantastic experience at the Mandarin Grill and Bar and I can't wait to go back again!

From the moment we entered, we were captivated by the inviting ambiance and warm hospitality. A stroke of luck led us here without a reservation, and we were graciously accommodated. The attentive staff seated us comfortably, facing the talented chefs whose culinary symphony unfolded before our eyes. As we settled in, we couldn't help but notice the awards lining on their walls, proudly showcasing their consistent Michelin Star status for an impressive 15 years! 🏆 It was evident that this restaurant was more than just a dining venue; it was a beacon of culinary brilliance. Our culinary journey with them began with a delightful surprise - two types of freshly baked bread, including a sweet milk bread that was simply divine where we can also choose the condiments that pleases our tastebuds. Next came a trio of tantalizing Amuse-bouche that we have to devour by order, perfectly paired for a delectable experience, each bite is a burst of flavor. As we eagerly awaited for the main course, a complimentary soup was served as an hors d'oeuvre, teasing our taste buds while the steak was expertly grilled to maintain its peak taste. The attention to detail and dedication to culinary perfection were truly impressive. Finally, the much-awaited moment arrived - the Tomahawk Steak with a side of spinach and fries. The flavors harmonized beautifully, and we couldn't resist requesting rice, which they kindly provided despite it not being on the menu. A testament to their commitment to guests' satisfaction. From start to finish, pure culinary bliss! We extend our deepest appreciation to Mandarin for an extraordinary evening ❤️

Yelp
Boys , bring your wallets! This place isn't for everyone. It's arguably one of the most expensive bars I've ever been in. But , it's worth every penny. This place bleeds sensuality and class. Unfortunately , I was in a rush and only had time for a few oysters and a glass of champagne. But it's one of the best bars I've ever been in.

Yelp
This is not what you would expect from a place called bar and grill. The restaurant is run by executive chef Uwe Opocensky, who apparently worked at the famed El Bulli. I rewarded myself with a meal here on my last night in Hong Kong after a week of endless workdays. Took some hyping myself up to dine solo at a Michelin starred restaurant (in Asia, no less, where eating is very much a social event and the judgments passed upon solo diners, especially female diners, would put Mean Girls to shame), but being able to stroll to the restaurant from my room without exiting the building took the edge off. The food was definitely inventive but I am not sure if this is worth the hype. Some parts of it felt gimmicky (fish and chips was good, but for ex., the "petit four" which was a giant chocolate ball meant to imitate the ferrero rocher would never be my choice over an actual ferrero rocher). Service was attentive if a little fussy (I was sent off from dinner by a waiter who wished me a good rest as I looked tired. Valid - I had been working 13+ hour days for a month straight.)

Yelp
It has been years since I've been back to the Mandarin Grill. It is as high end as it comes & stays in the traditional side. The wait staff listens & hears everything you say & tries to anticipate what you want and the food needs to be & is wonderful. I'm not a wine drinker so I can not opine on their wine list. It's about US$250 per person to start & goes up from there so look for luxury, not value here.

Yelp
A fine white table cloth dining experience in Hong Kong that is not over hyped or over worked in their menu. Exudes classic favorites in a refreshing new and contemporary presentation while preserving the decadence of the dish. Beautiful ambience that is short changed in HK michelin venues and is just the right amount of space to promote an intimate but ever crowded environment. Helpful and congenial staff. Well executed and beautifully presented courses. Highly recommend for a special occasion in HK that is all about a nice dining experience and quality food in a top notch and convenient venue.

Yelp
It was our first time here in years & it was still top notch. The ambience was intimate as there was a lot of space between tables as well as screens between tables to give you more privacy. This is NOT common in HK. The oyster selection was extensive & tasty. The prime rib was excellent & melted in your mouth whilst the Yorkshire pud was enormous. The Oreo dessert was great but make sure you dig to the bottom of the bowl. Service was impeccable as you would expect for the Mandarin. We will be back.

Yelp
One of the finest place in HK. Chef used to work with El Buli and you can feel it. Eggs & Bacon are excellent and finely prepare in front of view. Duck mixea chinese taste and a western style sobriety. Chocolate soufflé is as good as a soufflé of Closerie des Lilas in Paris. Wine list is very well done. Service is top of the notch.

Yelp
An old world classical ambience with a new world, completely mad and pure genius chef combined with top-shelf service and a most excellent wine list equates to exceptional in our books...no other than the Mandarin Grill! Chef Uwe just keeps on rolling out amazing aromas, textures, creativity and tastes that boggle the mind. We have been visiting since he arrived at the Mandarin Grill, and our only regret is we do not parachute in often enough. The photos demonstrate this fella is always seeking to inspire his clientele to imagine just how much fun a chef can have with food...and the clientele can enjoy with all their senses...and perhaps a few they did not know existed! Ken, the sommelier, is a honest, experienced, friendly and professional sommelier. Each time we visit, we basically indicate some general interests for the evening and then sit back to watch him perform. His honesty, among many positive traits, is overwhelming. If he thinks the wine is not up to par or we will not like it or it does not meet the value proposition we are seeking, then he speaks up. We only wished he could be cloned and worked in every restaurant, well, every where in the world!!! Having said that, his total performance often results in a bit more wine than we usually sip...hiccup...thanks, Ken! The only possible way to enjoy Chef Uwe and Sommelier Ken's performance in an arguably better setting is to visit The Krug Room at the Mandarin Oriental.
