An old world classical ambience with a new world, completely mad and pure genius chef combined with top-shelf service and a most excellent wine list equates to exceptional in our books...no other than the Mandarin Grill!
Chef Uwe just keeps on rolling out amazing aromas, textures, creativity and tastes that boggle the mind. We have been visiting since he arrived at the Mandarin Grill, and our only regret is we do not parachute in often enough. The photos demonstrate this fella is always seeking to inspire his clientele to imagine just how much fun a chef can have with food...and the clientele can enjoy with all their senses...and perhaps a few they did not know existed!
Ken, the sommelier, is a honest, experienced, friendly and professional sommelier. Each time we visit, we basically indicate some general interests for the evening and then sit back to watch him perform. His honesty, among many positive traits, is overwhelming. If he thinks the wine is not up to par or we will not like it or it does not meet the value proposition we are seeking, then he speaks up. We only wished he could be cloned and worked in every restaurant, well, every where in the world!!! Having said that, his total performance often results in a bit more wine than we usually sip...hiccup...thanks, Ken!
The only possible way to enjoy Chef Uwe and Sommelier Ken's performance in an arguably better setting is to visit The Krug Room at the Mandarin Oriental.
