The Best Hotels in Milan

"Best Milan hotel for: hip luxury Set in an early 20th-century residence a few steps from the Fashion District, the Mandarin is all soft, mellow tones and elegant boiserie crafted by Italian artisans. Locals and guests flock to the Mandarin Bar & Bistrot to sip on inventive cocktails in a bold geometric setting (in summer, the action moves outside to the leafy courtyard). At Michelin-starred Seta, Executive Chef Antonio Guida crafts creative Italian dishes influenced by his Apulian roots. Wellness seekers make a beeline for the soothing spa, complete with a swimming pool, saunas, and steam rooms, and holistic treatments that combine the best of Eastern and Western therapies. Price: Rooms from around $1,126 per night Address: Mandarin Oriental, Via Andegari 9, 20121 Milan, Italy"

The Best Hotels in Milan of 2024

"Mandarin Oriental, Milan, offers luxury with Italian touches. It features marble bathrooms, a two-star Michelin restaurant, and floor-to-ceiling windows with Milanese views." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Mandarin Oriental, Milan

"Of all the swish hotels in Italy’s fashion capital, this is one of the fanciest: sober, stylish rooms with plum furnishings and wood floors; east-meets-west treatments at the spa; and two-Michelin-starred restaurants. There's Seta, where chef Antonio Guida peps up sometimes stodgy northern Italian cuisine with scents of the south, but the beating heart is the Mandarin Bar & Bistrot. Inside, it’s a glam '70s feel, with monochrome-checked walls, marble-streaked floor and dogtooth chairs; outside is an altogether cooler cloistered courtyard. Aperitivo hour sees cocktails accompanied by gourmet finger food, while later in the evening there’s an after-dinner menu of grappa and amari—the perfect digestivo before you turn in."

We stayed at the hotel for two nights, but unfortunately, our experience was disappointing for several reasons. To begin with, our room was not cleaned during the day. After spending a long day out, we returned to find the room untouched, which really affected our evening. Although the staff offered to clean it at that point, it was too late to be of any help. Additionally, the mattresses were extremely uncomfortable. I asked if they could do something about it, but was told there was nothing they could offer. As well, they offer only soap, shampoo and paper toilet. Other than that there is nothing! I asked for facial tissues they sent me toilet roll as they don’t use the tissues! No welcoming water offered neither coffee neither nothing! Another major inconvenience was the lack of running water between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm each day, which forced us to plan our outings around this issue. While the staff were generally kind and helpful, these problems significantly impacted our stay, and overall, we had a negative experience at the hotel

The Mandarin Oriental, Milan is the definition of refined luxury with a stylish Milanese twist. I stayed in a junior suite that perfectly balanced classic elegance with modern comfort—featuring high ceilings, plush textures, and a sense of calm, only steps from the fashion district. The service was flawless and genuinely warm, the spa felt like a hidden oasis, and the bar made one of the best Negronis I’ve ever had. I’d highly recommend it to fellow design lovers and discerning travelers. The location makes this property easy to experience the city. I only wish I had stayed longer than one night.

We decided to kick off our Italian adventure at this hotel and we had high expectations. I am pleased to say those expectations were exceeded in every respect! The hotel has a great vibe with service and friendly staff to match. The Mandarin Garden needs a special mention - it is just beautiful - so peaceful with a real ambience. We had breakfast in the garden every morning and returned for a drink in the evening. This hotel has it all - can’t wait to return.

First time to Milan and couldn’t decide between the Four Seasons, Bulgari or The Mandarin. Definitely think The Mandarin was a very good choice. Excellent location. Set back from the commotion but steps from the high end shopping. La Scala is less than a 10 minute walk and The Vittorio Emmanuel Galleria is less than 15 minutes. It has lovely curb appeal and is not overly large. The staff is wonderful. The front desk is stellar and the concierge is also top notch. Mario and Carlo in particular were beyond fabulous. Well connected and beyond helpful. |We were graciously upgraded to a Junior Suite. Very spacious. Very contemporary decor. But a little on the dark side to be completely honest. I would not describe them as bright and happy aesthetically. Our room was a mix of burgundy, beige, grays and black. And the bathroom was very dark with the charcoal/black marble. Very sleek. But despite the lighting. Still felt incredibly dark. Didn’t love that. Aesthetically I found the hotel a bit underwhelming. Despite the bold, dramatic use of color, it still comes off a bit cold. I didn’t look at the furnishings anywhere and feel wowed or impressed. The reception area looked like it could kind of be anywhere. Had a hard time getting a sense of place. The indoor breakfast/light dining area also doubles as the bar/indoor light dining area at night. Just a kind of weird flow. Very colorful and good attempt at trying to have personality. But came off as more of a very high end airport lounge than what it was. The outdoor Garden area was very pretty. Great for drinks, outdoor dining. Service was inconsistent. Never went to the Spa. But heard it is definitely one of the highlights of the hotel. Overall, I am conflicted with my opinion. It was quite good in some respects, but not enough to say I would definitely stay here again or not. Still very glad we tried it.

Our stay at the Mandarin Oriental, Milan was truly exceptional. The hotel perfectly combines elegant design with outstanding comfort. The staff were incredibly attentive and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The rooms were spacious, beautifully decorated, and immaculately clean. The location is ideal — just a short walk from the main attractions and shopping streets. Dining at the hotel was a real highlight, with delicious dishes served in a stylish setting. We would definitely love to return and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Milan.

Every detail is considered and mastered from the design of the rooms, restaurant and spa to the service of the staff. I was constantly impressed from our room being ready when we arrived from an overseas flight early in the morning to the peacefulness and beauty of its spa. The location is a perfect central location to walk around to restaurants and shops. This was one of the best hotel experiences I have ever had and I am very well traveled. Bravo to the staff!!!

I’m truly disappointed by my recent experience at the Mandarin Oriental Milan. As a loyal fan of the MO brand who has stayed in multiple Mandarin Oriental properties around the world, I was genuinely surprised when I was turned away just for wanting to enjoy breakfast. I wasn’t asking for anything unusual—simply to experience the elegance and service I’ve come to love from MO. But I was told, quite bluntly, that breakfast is only available to hotel guests. No effort to accommodate, no alternative offered, just a flat “no.” This is not the level of hospitality I expect from a name like Mandarin Oriental. In every other location I’ve visited—be it Dubai, Munich, Istanbul, or Paris—I’ve always felt welcomed and valued, even when I wasn’t an overnight guest. Unfortunately, that warmth and flexibility were missing here in Milan. Very disappointing. I hope this isn’t the new standard.

Yelp
Beautiful, elegant, modern hotel in the city center near shopping, cafes, duomo, but off the Main Street with close attention to privacy of guests. Spa has a lovely pool and has saunas and the MO signature services.

Yelp
One of the best hotels ever in customer service! We loved our stay with Mandarin Oriental Milan. The experience was by far better than the other MO hotels I've visited over the years, but likely one of the best out of all hotels I have visited.

Yelp
Great room, location, and staff. I was fortunate enough to stay in a suite for the night, and it was definitely what I needed after walking around all day. The Mandarin Oriental never disappoints me, or my friends/family. Rooms run around 700USD+ per night, which might be on the steep side for most. But if you're reading this review, chances are you can afford it. Splurge away! It's very convenient to all the high end shops and La Scala opera house.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic hotel with a great location. Beautifully appointed, and large rooms are complimented by a wonderful staff. Came into a room full of champagne and chocolate dipped strawberries.. nice touch guys! 5-star through and through here. Including the hotel bar, which made the best cocktails we had all trip.

Yelp
We had a great time in this lovely hotel. The rooms are well appointed. It was very clean, quite and comfortable. The service was excellent. We received a hand written note from the manager welcoming us with a platter full of delicious chocolates. Mario, the concierge was very helpful in arranging a private tour for us. But, it didn't make sense to us that Wifi wouldn't be included in the price of such an expensive room. That is the only reason we are giving them a four star rating.

Yelp
Came here October 2017. Wow. You are not gonna get better service in any other hotel in Milan. I know bc I've stayed in probably 20 hotels as I go to Milan at least twice a year. The nice and good service alone is so hard to come by. The privacy of this location where it's not easy to just enter the hotel is also a plus. I also like the ambience of both restaurants. Location to all my favorite shopping places is a plus. What it comes down to is the price, I will not always have the budget to stay here but if you do, take advantage!

Yelp
This hotel is much better than most European hotels. The accommodations are nice, but the service is what sets it apart. My wife and I spent several days here and we felt like we were treated like family. The concierge staff was super incredible. We came to Milan without a plan and they were able to set us up with last minute sporting and opera tickets. Also, Seta was by far the best dining experience we've ever had. Hands down. Definitely worth the price.
