"It may be located beneath a hotel but this tastefully furnished restaurant comes with lush garden views and a charming water terrace. The décor reflects a modern classical take in Chinese context – the booths divided by diaphanous curtains with dragon motifs are particularly charming. Likewise, the experienced chef delivers Jiang Nan classics with refined touches. Look out for steamed Reeves shad with distillers’ grains that exudes winey aromas." - Michelin Inspector

"Four thousand modern art pieces throughout public areas and guest rooms liven up this Pudong waterfront hotel, which opened in April 2013. The highlight is the lobby’s Glass Murals, made from almost 72,000 mosaic tiles and inspired by local artist Miao Tong’s painting Sound of the Wind . Elsewhere in the lobby, guests will encounter Chinese screens, sculpted furnishings, and bronze tones that mimic the glow of sunset on the river. Rooms have taupe furnishings, with flashes of indigo and lotus-green, and abstract ink paintings of traditional Chinese garden landscapes. Some have hypnotic Huangpu River views. As with many hotels in Pudong, the property is set within a larger complex, in this case the 61-acre mixed-use Harbour City development."

"Somehow it took fifty years for Mandarin Oriental to arrive in Shanghai. Given that they started out in Hong Kong, and that in the interim they managed to expand across several continents, run at least one contender for Best Hotel on Earth (that would be the Bangkok outpost), and win themselves a savvy clientele whose loyalty is the envy of the hospitality world, you’d think they might have made it here a little sooner. But no matter, for the Mandarin Oriental Shanghai already feels like a classic — the lobby perfectly dazzling, the rooms impeccably tasteful, the service fully on point from the moment they opened the doors. If even one of the 4,000 works of contemporary art was hung a hair off-kilter, we certainly haven’t found it." - Tablet Hotels

This was our first time to visit Shanghai and I’m so happy that we decided to stay here. |Check in with swift and was performed efficiently in the club launch by Thomas was such an awesome person who always wanted to keep us happy and satisfied. |We had a harbor suite connected to a river view room, which gave us ample space. |The only drawback was that there was no guest toilet or powder room.|The first day we had breakfast in the main restaurant in the lower lobby and it was nothing less than a zoo with huge queues and chaos. |From next day, we decided to have it in the club lounge and that was the best decision we took. The ambience was lovely and the spread of food is also very good. Unfortunately, on the last day, a major issue occurred, but it was here that the stellar service became apparent the hotel manager, Mr. Quinn Pu along with the operations manager Mr. Lucas who swiftly recognized the magnitude of the situation and went out of the way to amend the matter. |Their action and gesture will remain etched in our memories as one of the best benchmarks of service which other hotels must learn to achieve. |The staff in the club lounge were such wonderful people and Ms. Zoe was a very nice person. |Thomas of course was awesome and I wish I knew the names of all the staff members. |There is no doubt that I will not stay anywhere else whenever I return to Shanghai.

Having never stayed at a Mandarin Oriental Hotel before we truly didn't know what to expect. Suffice to say that we were surprised and delighted from the moment we arrived to our slightly sad departure. In fact, we started calling the hotel "our home" which we never do while on holidays. To escape the inevitable tourist crowds we decided to book a hotel that wasn't in the ever popular The Bund area of Shanghai but in the Financial District - a great decision for many reasons. In fact, straight outside the hotel was the East Bund with a pretty and very green waterfront promenade, with dedicated walking, jogging and bike paths along the Huangpu River. As such, immediately from day one we felt like locals and not tourists. As for the hotel itself our Mandarin River View Club Room was simply spectacular - understated but slightly edgy elegance throughout with ample room for a two week stay - not to mention an awesome view. Of course, the staff throughout the entire property were simply amazing and couldn't do enough for us to make our stay an enjoyable and memorable one. They are all genuinely friendly and welcoming. As for the hotels Michelin Star Restaurant Yong Yi Ting - the food and overall experience deserves it's ongoing star rating - sublime. In essence, we have now discovered a new world class 5 star hotel guest experience benchmark thanks to the Mandarin Oriental Pudong Shanghai. We can't recommend it highly enough and look forward to staying with them again.

What a gorgeous treatment! I was lucky to find this hotel thanks to a friend who traveled to Shanghai before me. I trusted her recommendation, and it was really good! Staying at MO is so relaxing, and you receive excellent treatment. My room faced the river, (which I highly recommend) having that view is truly a once lifetime experience. The staff are very professional and always ready to help. Lastly, I want to say a special thank you to Mr. Luigi. Sadly, I couldn’t say goodbye in person, but I want to express my gratitude here for his kindness!

Exceptional Service at Mandarin Oriental Pudong Stayed in the Club Mandarin River View Room (2003) and had a wonderful experience. The room was clean, spacious, and well-appointed. While the common pool changing room feels a bit aged, everything remains functional and well-kept. What truly sets this hotel apart is its exceptional staff. Leo made check-in smooth and welcoming, and the Club Lounge team — Jo, Yolanda, Oven and others — were consistently attentive and warm. The spa staff, especially Newman and Kyra, also delivered outstanding service. Overall, a polished and relaxing stay with top-notch hospitality. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a serene riverside escape in Shanghai.

I'm a mid-aged traveler who's been keeping Hilton Diamond status for 8 years now. Since I always stay at Hilton properties, this time I decided to try something different and booked a hotel through A Small World — and I have to say, the experience was a great success. The facilities were excellent, and the view from the room was amazing. The Michelin 1-star restaurant, Yong Yi Ting, was also very impressive and definitely worth visiting. Staff were overall friendly and helpful, though quite a few of them didn't speak English, which made communication a bit tricky at times. Also, considering how good the hardware was, the cleaning and maintenance could’ve been better. One of the highlights was the complimentary Mercedes van shuttle, which conveniently took us to nearby spots like Oriental Pearl Tower and IFC Mall. That service really made things easy. Breakfast was a bit basic and repetitive, but the bedding, towels, and laundry were all very clean and well-maintained.

Developed top rating ! from start to finishAmazing 2 night stay. That's *the* place. Top service, professionalism and kindness from all staff members throughout the entire stay. From the spotless check-in manager to check-out professional ladies, to the staff in the Club, Spa, at the entrance, literally at every single touch point (no names mentioned, not sure if it's allowed here). Great room : bedding, all fixtures are good or high quality (one cannot do without a leather wrapped Nespresso machine:). Big views on skyline and city. Impressive swimming pool , meant for swimming not lounging, and gym. Great breakfast buffets, no queues or excessively noisy even during golden week. Small downside, if one wants to be extra picky: the MO lounge club has great views, nice cocktails and amazing service, but food selection is a bit small and very repetitive (mostly the same 2-3 things a la carte and a couple of, cold-only, buffet options. Also only 1 white , 1 red wine. They could easily improve this with a small investment. Stayed at all big names, most everywhere. These guys are real pros, they should be sent around to teach, train and scold other hotel managers - mass market, hard discount experience with long queues at breakfast (tables placed in corridors near the elevators!!) , noisier than a 60 mln passengers airport and a miserable check-in and out. On the contrary MO Shanghai is very close to my lost-in-translation fascinating experiences at the before-renovation Park Hyatt Tokyo. So a big shout out to those who run MO Shanghai!

The staff were professional and friendly. They would approach and initiate to extend their help when required. The lobby lighting and environment were welcoming and upscale. The concierge team was prompt and efficient. The room view was impeccable and quiet and comfortable. Overall, my children love the stay and look forward to return to the hotel.

Wonderful hotel and excellent services. I especially like their SPA massage therapy. My therapist, Newman, is amazing. I try to book an appointment whenever possible. Newman is able to find my pain points and identify the root causes, then addresses them to provide me with great relief. This year he even improved his skills further. Wonderful experience, highly recommended.
