"After renovation, the restaurant reopened in an elegant space styled to evoke Jiangnan's water towns, divided into zones by perforated screens mimicking Suzhou's gardens and sheer curtains with ink strokes. Jiangzhe classics are given a refined, creative spin, with signatures such as Hangzhou-style minced fish ball with green peas (pre-order only). At lunch, try dim sum such as Qiandaohu rice flour dumplings and four-colour dumplings." - Michelin Inspector

"Four thousand modern art pieces throughout public areas and guest rooms liven up this Pudong waterfront hotel, which opened in April 2013. The highlight is the lobby’s Glass Murals, made from almost 72,000 mosaic tiles and inspired by local artist Miao Tong’s painting Sound of the Wind . Elsewhere in the lobby, guests will encounter Chinese screens, sculpted furnishings, and bronze tones that mimic the glow of sunset on the river. Rooms have taupe furnishings, with flashes of indigo and lotus-green, and abstract ink paintings of traditional Chinese garden landscapes. Some have hypnotic Huangpu River views. As with many hotels in Pudong, the property is set within a larger complex, in this case the 61-acre mixed-use Harbour City development."

"Somehow it took fifty years for Mandarin Oriental to arrive in Shanghai. Given that they started out in Hong Kong, and that in the interim they managed to expand across several continents, run at least one contender for Best Hotel on Earth (that would be the Bangkok outpost), and win themselves a savvy clientele whose loyalty is the envy of the hospitality world, you’d think they might have made it here a little sooner. But no matter, for the Mandarin Oriental Shanghai already feels like a classic — the lobby perfectly dazzling, the rooms impeccably tasteful, the service fully on point from the moment they opened the doors. If even one of the 4,000 works of contemporary art was hung a hair off-kilter, we certainly haven’t found it." - Tablet Hotels

The Mandarin Oriental Shanghai – Pudong enjoys a prime location with stunning views over the Huangpu River. The setting is ideal for both business and leisure travelers who want to be close to the city’s vibrant heart while enjoying a peaceful and scenic environment. The rooms are exceptionally well-designed — modern, stylish, and furnished with high-quality materials that create a luxurious yet welcoming atmosphere. Every detail, from the lighting to the layout, reflects thoughtful design and comfort. Breakfast is generous and offers a wide variety of international and local options. There’s something to suit every taste. However, due to the number of guests, the breakfast area can get quite busy and a bit noisy during peak times. Service throughout the hotel is excellent. The staff is professional, friendly, and consistently attentive. That said, English proficiency at the front desk could be improved slightly to better meet the expectations of international guests. All in all, this Mandarin Oriental Pudong is a top-tier city hotel that combines comfort, design, and high-level service in a prime location. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return on our next trip to Shanghai.

All the details at the Mandarin Oriental Shanghai was simply beautiful. The room was spacious, featuring a stunning round bathtub — elegant and relaxing. and the hotel’s services and facilities were equally impressive, also for the concierge they were very helpful. Additionally, guests can request a bidet spray in the bathroom, which is highly appreciated for us as Arab travelers. We experienced a minor issue during our stay, but it was resolved promptly and efficiently by Mr. Luigi Savarese. His swift and professional response left a lasting impression, and because of this outstanding service, we now consider the Mandarin Oriental our top choice whenever visiting Shanghai. A heartfelt thank you to him for making our stay even more enjoyable.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Mandarin Oriental Shanghai for our girls’ trip, booked through the Mandarin Oriental Fan Club program. From the moment we arrived, everything felt seamless and special. Our room was beautifully appointed with an incredible view of the Pearl Tower – a highlight of our trip. Booking through the Fan program made it even more memorable, with thoughtful touches and benefits that really enhanced the experience. The Club Lounge was outstanding – elegant, quiet, and with excellent food and drinks throughout the day. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and welcome, always friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Overall, every detail was perfect – from the check-in experience to the housekeeping and the service in the lounge. This was truly one of the best hotel experiences we’ve had in Shanghai, and we would not hesitate to return.

I would love to rate my experience 10 out of 5, if possible. The staff at this hotel absolutely surpassed my expectations- the service was impeccable and the room was perfect. Kent from the concierge desk went above and beyond while assisting me with my luggage and even helping to make sure that a limited edition Hello Shanghai Dimoo toy doll was safely delivered to me, just a few hours before I needed to head to the Shanghai Pudong airport to catch my flight back to NYC. The breakfast was exquisite, and I was beyond impressed by the level of service in the hotel’s restaurant. Finally, I’d like to express my gratitude for Zoe, who graciously assisted with my check-in process on the 2nd floor, while the main front desk was quite busy on the day that I first arrived at the hotel. My only regret is that I was only able to stay one night at this gorgeous property. I look forward to returning for another stay in the future, next time I visit Shanghai!

Mandarin Oriental Pudong should be the best stay for us in Shanghai. Manger Victoria made a detailed arrangement for us, and which impressed us was that she could still remember our preferences of our last stay with MO Pudong half a year ago! We were warmly welcomed as soon as we got out of the MPV. It feeled like we were back home, rather than traveling. In addition, I enjoyed the beautiful scenery of the pearl tower and the Huangpu river. And facilities here were all well maintained. In a nutshell, I will always be staying with MO Pudong whenever I come to Shanghai.

What a gorgeous treatment! I was lucky to find this hotel thanks to a friend who traveled to Shanghai before me. I trusted her recommendation, and it was really good! Staying at MO is so relaxing, and you receive excellent treatment. My room faced the river, (which I highly recommend) having that view is truly a once lifetime experience. The staff are very professional and always ready to help. Lastly, I want to say a special thank you to Mr. Luigi. Sadly, I couldn’t say goodbye in person, but I want to express my gratitude here for his kindness!

We had a very comfortable stay at the Mandarin Oriental Shanghai. The room offered a fantastic view of the city, and it was equipped with everything needed for a relaxing experience, including several English-speaking TV channels which was a nice touch. The service and overall atmosphere were exactly what you’d expect from the Mandarin brand — polished and welcoming. The only downside was the washroom design. The angular basins made the space a bit awkward to navigate, and the sliding doors without a proper handle or knob were tricky to use. That said, the comfort, views, and hospitality more than made up for it, and I would still highly recommend staying here when visiting Shanghai.
