"After renovation, the restaurant reopened in an elegant space styled to evoke Jiangnan's water towns, divided into zones by perforated screens mimicking Suzhou's gardens and sheer curtains with ink strokes. Jiangzhe classics are given a refined, creative spin, with signatures such as Hangzhou-style minced fish ball with green peas (pre-order only). At lunch, try dim sum such as Qiandaohu rice flour dumplings and four-colour dumplings." - Michelin Inspector

"Four thousand modern art pieces throughout public areas and guest rooms liven up this Pudong waterfront hotel, which opened in April 2013. The highlight is the lobby’s Glass Murals, made from almost 72,000 mosaic tiles and inspired by local artist Miao Tong’s painting Sound of the Wind . Elsewhere in the lobby, guests will encounter Chinese screens, sculpted furnishings, and bronze tones that mimic the glow of sunset on the river. Rooms have taupe furnishings, with flashes of indigo and lotus-green, and abstract ink paintings of traditional Chinese garden landscapes. Some have hypnotic Huangpu River views. As with many hotels in Pudong, the property is set within a larger complex, in this case the 61-acre mixed-use Harbour City development."

Mandarin Oriental Shanghai (Shanghai, China) 3 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Somehow it took fifty years for Mandarin Oriental to arrive in Shanghai. Given that they started out in Hong Kong, and that in the interim they managed to expand across several continents, run at least one contender for Best Hotel on Earth (that would be the Bangkok outpost), and win themselves a savvy clientele whose loyalty is the envy of the hospitality world, you’d think they might have made it here a little sooner. But no matter, for the Mandarin Oriental Shanghai already feels like a classic — the lobby perfectly dazzling, the rooms impeccably tasteful, the service fully on point from the moment they opened the doors. If even one of the 4,000 works of contemporary art was hung a hair off-kilter, we certainly haven’t found it." - Tablet Hotels

Exceptional service and flawless rooms. The hotel is very well staffed, and every team member we met was polite, professional, and cheerful. Everyone greeted us with a smile and went out of their way to assist wherever possible. Breakfast offered a wide variety of selections, as you’d expect from a top-tier hotel. But what truly stood out was the service. My child loves xiao long bao and the chef kindly prepared xiao long bao specially for my child, even though it wasn’t on the buffet spread. The staff were attentive, quick to clear plates, and observant of guests’ needs throughout. Our room was spotless, modern, and in excellent condition. Everything just worked perfectly. Housekeeping was meticulous, and the common areas were equally well maintained. The only minor improvement needed might be the jacuzzi area. Overall, this is a superb luxury hotel with impeccable service and attention to detail. While it may not have the wow factors of Shanghai’s newer properties or the old world charm of the heritage hotels, it delivers genuine comfort and world class hospitality. At this price point, it might just be the cheapest Mandarin Oriental.

We stayed several nights at Mandarin Oriental as our base for exploring Shanghai. It's located in the financial district, which is on the opposite side of the old city, which is where most of the sightseeing places are and Nanjing Road. ||Room was big and clean. There's a free shuttle to nearby IFC mall, which was very convenient. Though there's no shuttle returning to the hotel.||The concierge was very helpful when we made restaurant bookings. Breakfast was very good. Our family loved the beef brisket.||Wifi was free but we couldn't access it. We could connect but there was no wifi; either it was too slow or as foreigners we simply couldn't access it. I've observed this in other hotels I've stayed in.

Our family of 5 stayed at Mandarin Oriental Shanghai. We had an excellent stay. The hotel was very central. The staff were very attentive. We had the breakfast buffet every morning, which was an excellent way to start our day. We especially would like to thank Cherry, who checked in with us every morning at breakfast. We would strongly recommend this hotel and we look forward to coming back!

The Mandarin Oriental Shanghai – Pudong enjoys a prime location with stunning views over the Huangpu River. The setting is ideal for both business and leisure travelers who want to be close to the city’s vibrant heart while enjoying a peaceful and scenic environment. The rooms are exceptionally well-designed — modern, stylish, and furnished with high-quality materials that create a luxurious yet welcoming atmosphere. Every detail, from the lighting to the layout, reflects thoughtful design and comfort. Breakfast is generous and offers a wide variety of international and local options. There’s something to suit every taste. However, due to the number of guests, the breakfast area can get quite busy and a bit noisy during peak times. Service throughout the hotel is excellent. The staff is professional, friendly, and consistently attentive. That said, English proficiency at the front desk could be improved slightly to better meet the expectations of international guests. All in all, this Mandarin Oriental Pudong is a top-tier city hotel that combines comfort, design, and high-level service in a prime location. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return on our next trip to Shanghai.

After a 12 hour flight and arriving into Shanghai early morning we were relieved with the greeting we received, check in service and that our room was ready. After the most amazing breakfast in the lounge we went to the room where our bags were ready and waiting. Everything was so seamless. We enjoyed our time at the hotel, in particular the club lounge. Zoe and the team provided great service and really made an effort with our little boy. We found the main breakfast buffet although there were more options a bit more busy than we would like which was fine as we chose to enjoy breakfast in the lounge instead. The only slight area to improve would be the afternoon tea offering which was exactly the same everyday during our stay. This wasn’t too much of an issue as we were only there 3 nights but I think given it’s a MO we expected something a bit different throughout the days. We had amazing views from our room and the turn down service was much appreciated. There were lots of little things that stood out like the shuttle that we used more than we thought we would, it was really handy. Overall we had a great stay and great service from the minute you arrive with friendly faces to greet you.

I stayed for 3 nights at the hotel.||Check in was efficient, if not friendly. ||My room was beautiful. Large and tastefully furnished, it had a wonderful view. The room was quiet, clean and well equipped. ||The room service that I ordered was prompt and good quality but extremely overpriced. The items in the mini bar were also eye wateringly expensive compared to other similar hotel.||Breakfast was nice. The food was of a high standard but the service was not very attentive and lacked warmth. ||The gym is large and lacked many of the details that other 5 star hotels offer as standard. ||All in all, I would say that the hotel is good and well run. But there is no attempt by the staff to be friendly or to offer personal recognition. I was left feeling cold.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Mandarin Oriental Shanghai for our girls’ trip, booked through the Mandarin Oriental Fan Club program. From the moment we arrived, everything felt seamless and special. Our room was beautifully appointed with an incredible view of the Pearl Tower – a highlight of our trip. Booking through the Fan program made it even more memorable, with thoughtful touches and benefits that really enhanced the experience. The Club Lounge was outstanding – elegant, quiet, and with excellent food and drinks throughout the day. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and welcome, always friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Overall, every detail was perfect – from the check-in experience to the housekeeping and the service in the lounge. This was truly one of the best hotel experiences we’ve had in Shanghai, and we would not hesitate to return.

All the details at the Mandarin Oriental Shanghai was simply beautiful. The room was spacious, featuring a stunning round bathtub — elegant and relaxing. and the hotel’s services and facilities were equally impressive, also for the concierge they were very helpful. Additionally, guests can request a bidet spray in the bathroom, which is highly appreciated for us as Arab travelers. We experienced a minor issue during our stay, but it was resolved promptly and efficiently by Mr. Luigi Savarese. His swift and professional response left a lasting impression, and because of this outstanding service, we now consider the Mandarin Oriental our top choice whenever visiting Shanghai. A heartfelt thank you to him for making our stay even more enjoyable.
