"After renovation, the restaurant reopened in an elegant space styled to evoke Jiangnan's water towns, divided into zones by perforated screens mimicking Suzhou's gardens and sheer curtains with ink strokes. Jiangzhe classics are given a refined, creative spin, with signatures such as Hangzhou-style minced fish ball with green peas (pre-order only). At lunch, try dim sum such as Qiandaohu rice flour dumplings and four-colour dumplings." - Michelin Inspector

"Four thousand modern art pieces throughout public areas and guest rooms liven up this Pudong waterfront hotel, which opened in April 2013. The highlight is the lobby’s Glass Murals, made from almost 72,000 mosaic tiles and inspired by local artist Miao Tong’s painting Sound of the Wind . Elsewhere in the lobby, guests will encounter Chinese screens, sculpted furnishings, and bronze tones that mimic the glow of sunset on the river. Rooms have taupe furnishings, with flashes of indigo and lotus-green, and abstract ink paintings of traditional Chinese garden landscapes. Some have hypnotic Huangpu River views. As with many hotels in Pudong, the property is set within a larger complex, in this case the 61-acre mixed-use Harbour City development."

Mandarin Oriental Shanghai (Shanghai, China) 3 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Somehow it took fifty years for Mandarin Oriental to arrive in Shanghai. Given that they started out in Hong Kong, and that in the interim they managed to expand across several continents, run at least one contender for Best Hotel on Earth (that would be the Bangkok outpost), and win themselves a savvy clientele whose loyalty is the envy of the hospitality world, you’d think they might have made it here a little sooner. But no matter, for the Mandarin Oriental Shanghai already feels like a classic — the lobby perfectly dazzling, the rooms impeccably tasteful, the service fully on point from the moment they opened the doors. If even one of the 4,000 works of contemporary art was hung a hair off-kilter, we certainly haven’t found it." - Tablet Hotels

I had an outstanding stay at the Mandarin Oriental Pudong, Shanghai. From the moment I arrived, the service felt warm, attentive, and genuinely thoughtful. The rooms are beautifully designed, extremely comfortable, and offer stunning views of the city and river. Everything feels spotless, quiet, and refined, exactly what you’d expect from a true luxury hotel. The breakfast and dining options were exceptional, with a great variety and top-quality ingredients. What really stood out, though, was the staff: professional, kind, and always one step ahead of what you might need. Overall, this is one of the best hotel experiences I’ve had in Shanghai. Highly recommended for anyone looking for comfort, elegance, and world-class service.

Mandarin Oriental Pudong, Shanghai As a true MO fan, this stay once again reminded me why Mandarin Oriental remains so special and consistently sets itself apart. We stayed in the Harbour City Suite (67 sqm, North Bund River View) outer - connected to the Club Mandarin River View King Room (61 sqm), and both were absolutely flawless. The layouts are beautifully designed, every detail is thoughtfully considered, and the sense of space is perfect. The North Bund River view is simply stunning, truly a view like no other. Without a doubt, this is a must-stay hotel when in Shanghai. Because we booked both the Harbour Suite and a Club room, we enjoyed full access to the Club Lounge located on the 2nd floor, which elevated the experience even further. We were able to check in and check out in complete privacy, which was seamless and discreet. The lounge itself is excellent, offering breakfast, afternoon tea, and multiple food and beverage presentations throughout the day exclusively for Club guests. The concierge service was outstanding. Airport transportation was perfectly arranged, and we booked the Elite Airport VIP service for our return trip. However I MUST say the departure Elite Airport service was an impressive experience that made the entire airport process smooth, efficient, and stress-free. Highly recommended for anyone who values comfort and time. The concierge team was also reliable and efficient when it came to restaurant reservations and zoo bookings, handling everything with ease and professionalism in a very short timeframe. As an MO fan, the additional daily benefits truly make a difference — including services such as laundry and other thoughtful privileges that reflect Mandarin Oriental’s attention to detail and guest care. If you aren’t a member yet, I recommend you become one :) Overall, this stay perfectly demonstrates why Mandarin Oriental continues to stand out. An exceptional experience in Shanghai, and one we would happily repeat. Thank you MOPUD team, can’t wait to visit you again!

My stay at the Mandarin Oriental Pudong was a mix of highs and lows. On the positive side, the location is fantastic: it is in a very peaceful area which I personally love. The service is top-notch, and the breakfast is excellent, offering great variety and quality. On the other hand, the rooms are starting to feel a bit dated and could use a renovation to keep up with the brand's luxury standards. The most disappointing part was our arrival. I was traveling with my wife and our 4-year-old son, and we arrived at 8:00 AM. Even though the room was already vacant and ready, the hotel charged us an extra fee for the early check-in. I found this to be quite a poor gesture for a hotel of this caliber. One would expect more flexibility and genuine hospitality, especially when traveling with a young child.

Exceptional service and flawless rooms. The hotel is very well staffed, and every team member we met was polite, professional, and cheerful. Everyone greeted us with a smile and went out of their way to assist wherever possible. Breakfast offered a wide variety of selections, as you’d expect from a top-tier hotel. But what truly stood out was the service. My child loves xiao long bao and the chef kindly prepared xiao long bao specially for my child, even though it wasn’t on the buffet spread. The staff were attentive, quick to clear plates, and observant of guests’ needs throughout. Our room was spotless, modern, and in excellent condition. Everything just worked perfectly. Housekeeping was meticulous, and the common areas were equally well maintained. The only minor improvement needed might be the jacuzzi area. Overall, this is a superb luxury hotel with impeccable service and attention to detail. While it may not have the wow factors of Shanghai’s newer properties or the old world charm of the heritage hotels, it delivers genuine comfort and world class hospitality. At this price point, it might just be the cheapest Mandarin Oriental.

Amazing customer service from top to bottom. Congratulations to everybody working in this hotel, you made it very special and this hotel stands out from the rest for that reason. Special thank you to Housekeeping, the best we've experienced so far in our travels, so efficient. The rooms are very cosy and the location was great; secluded but central. Thank you also to the executive club lounge team; very efficient, welcoming and professional.

The Mandarin Oriental Shanghai – Pudong enjoys a prime location with stunning views over the Huangpu River. The setting is ideal for both business and leisure travelers who want to be close to the city’s vibrant heart while enjoying a peaceful and scenic environment. The rooms are exceptionally well-designed — modern, stylish, and furnished with high-quality materials that create a luxurious yet welcoming atmosphere. Every detail, from the lighting to the layout, reflects thoughtful design and comfort. Breakfast is generous and offers a wide variety of international and local options. There’s something to suit every taste. However, due to the number of guests, the breakfast area can get quite busy and a bit noisy during peak times. Service throughout the hotel is excellent. The staff is professional, friendly, and consistently attentive. That said, English proficiency at the front desk could be improved slightly to better meet the expectations of international guests. All in all, this Mandarin Oriental Pudong is a top-tier city hotel that combines comfort, design, and high-level service in a prime location. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return on our next trip to Shanghai.

The Mandarin is located in Shanghai's financial district with stunningly lit buildings at night all around and along the river. We had views of most of Shanghai's landmarks from our rooms. Service is impeccable, especially the housekeeping crew (cleaning and laundry flawless!), the concierge desk (Wayne and Kent ), the 2nd Floor club team for check in and for breakfast, and Luigi from Guest Relations. He fixes problems within minutes, in the most professional and efficient as well as friendly manner. Thank you!

The room is unacceptable for the price. Yes, the size is big but it's outdated for the price you have to pay. The bath has light fixtures hanging down and subpar cleaning in the bathroom is noticeable. The shower hot and cold pressure was also impossible to get right. The hairdryer is an old style and placed in the bathroom but unable to be used in a bathroom socket? Needs to be used near the bed. Also the mini bar is charged? For such an expensive hotel it's laughable and mean in the customer. Service downstairs was nice enough and accommodating but for the price the room was really below average to what you can get in Shanghai.
