18 Best Indian Restaurants in Raleigh, Durham, Cary | Eater Carolinas

"One of the newer additions to the Durham Food Hall, Mango Indian Grill is an establishment from the folks behind CholaNad in Chapel Hill. The name pays homage to the national fruit of India, and one of the standout dishes on the menu is the mango curry, a mild dish with mango, tomato, onion, and choice of protein. The other offerings lean heavy on Indian street food classics like chilli chicken, samosas, tandoor-roasted chicken wings, and a Chennai omelet filled with green chilies." - Matt Lardie

I was blown away by the delicious food here! Had the butter chicken with chickpeas and naan- delightful. The service was excellent and the food was just incredible.

Google
First time going to the Food Hall and had an amazing experience. Asked for a suggestion and he suggested the mango chutney at a medium spice and it was delicious. I'm always going to suggest the extra naan🥰

I don't really like Indian food, but after I saw the menu I decided to give it another try based on the wide variety of intriguing menu options that were available that I had never seen before at Indian restaurants. Not only was the food astounding, but the service was spectacular! It was so good, that I went back to place a second order to go as they were closing the kitchen and they were incredibly accomodating, so much so that they were willing to go above and beyond by pulling out the clean pans that they had just put away and made my second order at the last minute! I would 1000% recommend this place... and definitely try the Parotas and the Gulab Jamun!!!!:)

Google
Delicious south Indian food that I want to eat over and over again. Vegan and vegetarian options. I got the vegan South Indian curry with vegetables, and I highly recommend.

Google
If you like Butter Chicken, This place is your best bet. Great Value and very friendly, helpful and welcoming service. I got the butter chicken, jasmine rice and homemade garlic naan (.50 upcharge no regrets) and then the cashier said I get two sides. To my pleasant surprise, I picked the veggies ( which was seasoned cabbage and green peas but may vary due to season) and homemade mashed potatoes. ALL OF THIS FOR FOURTEEN DOLLARS, UH YES PLEASE. I also tried the Mango Lassi, which was delicious and refreshing. Think Mango milk- yogurt smoothie, but better? I dont know how they do it, You’d just have to go check them out for yourself. And ORDER EXTRA NAAN BREAD. Before I knew it I ate it all 😂 So anytime Im craving Butter Chicken, Im taking the drive here to eat some :) Atmosphere is super chill and relaxed as well. Definitely go.

Google
Solid chicken biryani for a good price. I like it spicy and they delivered the spice level perfectly.

Google
As others said: bland. Mostly because of the amount of spice in the dish. There’s a huge difference between knowing how to use spices to create flavors … and destroying them by making the food so spicy that it’s not enjoyable and making you feel sick afterward. Ordered the butter chicken and it was more a watery ultra spicy curry chicken. Indian mash potatoes on the other hand had no spice but were tasteless. Would not recommend.

Google
The food was so good that it literally made my cry. It reminded me of home cooked Hyderabadi food! 10/10 will return.

Yelp
Amazing food, fantastic customer service, the cashier lady was so sweet and answered all our questions regarding the menu. I highly recommend the tikki masala and the mango lassi!!!

Yelp
Similar to other reviews, I was not impressed with the food at Mango Grill. Yes, you do get a lot of food, but the quality and the spices are just not there. From the first bite of the chickpeas, I knew I had made the wrong choice. The chickpeas were in a soupy sauce that was a little salty, but combined with the Naan was a little tolerable. However, the vegetables could not be saved. Dry and odd tasting like they were sitting out for a while and were possibly reheated to land on my plate. The one saving grace was the chicken that had a little bit of spice but still fell flat. I was expecting way more than I received, especially for $15. Sorry, Mango Grill, I won't be back for any more of your food. There are better options out there.

Yelp
The folks that work there seem annoyed that I was there ordering food. Food is great but service is nonexistent. I walked up and the person that was in front did not look up and ignored me. I had to tell her what I wanted to order before she got up and would take my order.

Yelp
Love this place! Great bang for your buck, and the tikka masala and naan were AMAZING. Definitely a new Durham favorite!

Yelp
We needed a quick dinner before heading to a show at Carolina Theatre so I chose Mango Indian Grill which is located inside of the Durham Food Hall. I ordered the chicken tikka masala with Indian style mashed potatoes and sautéed veggies which came with a piece of naan. I liked the sides but the main course was just okay. It would not be my first choice in the food hall.

Yelp
The food here is honestly subpar. They use white meat chicken, which I don't really think is a good option for Indian food, especially Indian food that's been sitting in a hot pan for several hours. Really the only tasty part of the meal was the naan. I guess the prices aren't terrible for the amount of food you get, but I just wish it was better quality.

Yelp
An Indian-American, beware of my review for my favorite cuisine. The restaurant was underwhelming from the start. Located in the Durham Food Hall, I decided to stick with my favorite cuisine amongst the other options of bagels, ramen, soft-shelled crab, and more. Bad choice. I got the Chicken Biryani for about $13. After 5 minutes, I was given a plate that resembled an elementary school lunch tray: a compartment for biryani and two little spots of raitha (yogurt-based sauce). The biryani was not the most appealing at first glance, but the meat came with bone. After living in Europe, I can safely say I've had some of the worst biryanis in the world and this was not one of them. Nonetheless, it felt like they mask the aromatic taste of biryani with a lot of added ghee (butter). It was tasty, but nothing made me want to get more/come back another time (a key marker for biryani and myself). If you're at the hall, look elsewhere. There's plenty of better options beyond this (I heard good things about the soft-shelled crab and bagel joints).

Yelp
Stopped here for a dinner out, this place replaced another restaurant that I was a big fan of so I was excited to try something new. It's located in the Durham Food Hall. It was easy to order at the front and you wait a short time for your food. The food is prepared and they give it to you as you order it. The service is very quick. The variety of food is very good. They have a few curry options, as well as a few vegan and vegetarian options. I ordered the chicken tikka masala with veggies and potatoes as my sides. You are able to order this as a combo and the price is fair. It's comes with buttered naan but I ordered a special side of garlic naan. The only complaint was the food was not very hot. The flavors were great but I wish the temperature of the food would have been much hotter. It still tasted good and fresh though. I may come back again.

Yelp
This place is a true disappointment to Indian food (coming from an Indian national). We came to the Durham food hall that had limited cuisine options but out of the options, the Indian one seemed decent. We ordered the following: - mango lassi: too sweet. Didn't taste like lassi - curry combo of chicken Chettinad, rice, garlic/bullet naan, gulab jamun, and raita: everything was a disappointment. All dishes lacked flavor. The chicken Chettinad curry was so bland, didn't taste anything like Chettinad. Also the person dumped the curry on the rice without asking if I wanted it on the side. Making it difficult to eat with naan. Overall I don't recommend food from here. Waste of money.

Yelp
A well-priced, fast service, tasty Indian restaurant is definitely needed in Durham. Dosa was tasty, good, filling but not crispy. I mentioned this to them after I scarfed down the food(I was hungry). If the Dosas are crispy next time, I would give them a 5/5. Next time I am going ask them to make the Dosa extra crispy to see if this would help.

Yelp
Pretty bland and not too flavorful. Zero "hot" sensation from the food. Good size portions.

Yelp
Came on a weeknight evening with a special offer from a local dining club. At first there was only one person behind the counter and we couldn't tell if he was asleep or looking at his phone. We ordered two mango lassis, my wife got the chana masala, and I ordered the chicken biryani bowl. Two other workers then came in. Not sure what the holdup was (maybe they did the biryani bowl to order) but several customers who were behind us got their orders before we did. Also, when we got the order, they only rang up one mango lassi. Food was decent and portions were good, but the service could have been a little better. Best part was the naan, which was warm and fresh. This would do for a quick fix of Indian food but we prefer some other Indian restaurants in Durham.

Phylicia H.

Yelp
I was really excited to try Mango Indian Grill but the flavors left me wanting more. I would describe it as food court quality Indian food. I ordered the Chana masala with veggies and mashed potatoes. There wasn't any roti or vegan naan available so they kindly allowed me to substitute for the mango chutney. The chutney and potatoes were the stars of the plate but the chana and veggies were bland. Great price point for express Indian food but there are better options in Durham.

Yelp
Delicious spot within the Durham Food Hall! Good is hot and ready and very good! This is the perfect stop for lunch or a quick dinner - will definitely be back!
