Where to Stop and Eat on the Drive From Miami to Key West | Eater Miami

"I head to Mangoes Key West (700 Duval St, Key West), a decades-old spot in the middle of Old Town where I ask to sit on the patio for prime people-watching while dining on Bahamian-style snapper and Cuban seafood stew." - Amber Love Bond

Here’s a polished review for Mangoes: ⸻ We had such a fun dinner at Mangoes! We lucked out with timing — the Christmas parade passed right by the restaurant, adding so much energy and making the whole night feel festive and memorable. The outdoor space is adorable and worked perfectly for our group of 10 girls. Food-wise, the conch fritters were really good, crispy, and full of flavor. I had the shrimp salad, which was delicious with an amazing dressing that totally made the dish. A lively spot with great food, a cute atmosphere, and the perfect setting for a girls’ night out.

The vegetarian food- watermelon salad - and chicken sandwich were delicious. Drinks were good. Server was nice but apparently had too manyy tables to get back to us very often. Had to wait for drinks and for check. Nice server though. Nice place to eat. Quiet. Clean. We were not rushed at all

My fish sandwich tasted not fresh, I hope I will not get sick tonight. Like the fish was around for a while. In my husbands fries were hair. 😮😟 Pasta off the kids menu was soooo spicy 🌶️ that my child refused to eat it. Seriously spicy food for children? And on the top of all that there was construction noise going while we try to relax and eat. I am not coming back.

Google
Item air restaurant and bare that's berm a staple on Duval St for quite a long time. We love the appetizers and cocktails but the best thing about Mangoes are their desserts. We love their key lime pie, truly or favorite in the keys. They also have live music, and unlike most other venues in Key West with live music - the volume is such that you can still have a conversation. Love that.

Food was good but not phenomenal. The drinks were satisfying, however. My group enjoyed lunch here and we saw interesting things on the street while dining.

Google
A nice Carribean restaurant in the middle of Duval street and has a nice ambience. The outdoor seating and indoor seatings provide customers the choice of where they want to be seated. The bar area also has bar seatings. The service is nice and food is good overall. The best was the pineapple salad I love it. But cauliflower tajin was a bit disappointing. The rest of the dishes were up to the mark but nothing outstanding. However, overall it was good overall with quick service and food was value for money.

Google
Great location and decor, I feel like that’s about all the good I can really say. Outdoor seating is really cute especially on the patio and in the back area with all the plants and sculptures. The bad - our food was really lacking. I’ve had a lot of avocado toast on the island and theirs was pretty bland which surprised me for island cuisine. I liked the bread it was on but there wasn’t enough flavor. It needed more olive oil, maybe some garlic, and sea salt flakes or some sort of seasoning. The chicken and waffles my boyfriend got honestly seemed like a joke. The chicken was one thin breast lightly battered… idk maybe we are both expecting Southern fried chicken like big pieces of chicken and that was wrong to think but that was probably the most disappointing chicken and waffles he’s ever had. And then there was the service. Our server, older white woman, acted like she was doing us a favor and never once cracked a smile. We are friendly people, my boyfriend being a server himself… we don’t have super high expectations by any means but we felt ignored and a bother to her. Everyone in Key West is usually super friendly and their hostesses definitely were. Definitely not a restaurant I will plan to return to unfortunately.

We ate at Mangoes in mid November for dinner on their patio. The food was amazing, service great and overall atmosphere so fun! A couple of favorites were the Blue crab taco appetizers and the loaded pineapple! And if you are lucky you might catch a glimpse of the adorable 6toed mama kitty and her babies hiding in some shrubbery! Definitely a must try restaurant!

Yelp
Delicious lunch in a beautiful outdoor setting.  The patio area and path back to the restroom at Mangoes is tree covered and decorated to bring a sense of relaxation to the diners. We stopped by for lunch on our last day in KW.  Service was good and the selection of drinks, beers, and lunch items had something for everyone.  The food was very good and the price was commensurate. Everyone was very pleased with their meals.  I ordered the shrimp po-boy, expecting the sandwich to be similar to those ordered at beach restaurants in DE/MD, which typically contain a few measly shrimp that are lost in the bun... Mangoes was nothing close to that and blew me away with the size and flavor of the po-boy.  The bun was loaded with perfectly cooked shrimp to the point they were falling out of the bun!  The creole remoulade had a nice balance to the flavor and accompanied the shrimp nicely.  I would definitely recommend including Mangoes on a trip to Key West.

Yelp
We love this place for lunch! This time around, we got ourselves tickets to the Drag Brunch - what fun!!! Service was great, atmosphere was super fun...whether you come for a special occasion or just for a bite to eat, you should enjoy yourself here. Next time I'm back on KW, I'll be back in here.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place walking back from the Hemingway House while on a cruise stop in Key West. They had ample outdoor seating and it offered a good view of Duval Street, where there are lots of bars and shops. For starters, we had conch fritters which are like hushpuppies with a bit of seafood inside. I thought they were very good, and you get five golf ball sized fritters. My wife opted for the lobster roll with pasta, and really enjoyed it. She said the pasta was the best part. Price was $30-ish but that is to be expected. I got the cuban that had a good bit of meat though the pulled pork was pretty mushy. It was still a hearty sandwich with plenty of fries. We ended our lunch with a piece of their house made key lime pie, which was excellent. Service was pretty quick and good, and they kept our glasses full. Bathrooms are in the back and outdoors, but there is some inside seating if you prefer. We thought it was a cool place, though hardly anyone was there on a weekday afternoon. We also had chickens and pigeons roaming around at our feet, which was entertaining.

Yelp
Great service. Good selection of adult beverages. Daily specials. Something on the menu for everyone. Live band very good and the music not overpowering as to the sound.
google avatar

Yelp
Try the conch frustréis and fish dip it's delicious. Lo d music all the time. Limited indoor space with AC but plenty of outdoor space and people watching. Good drinks. Great bar staff. Look for Ina she is wonderful with drinks and services

Yelp
Mangoes hit the spot. The Pre-Conch Republic Chowder was an absolute treat before the shrimp tacos. The shrimp tacos were divine! Awesome service and wonderful ambiance right on Duval Street. If ever in the Keys Mangoes is a must try!

Yelp
Everything was good but the "Smash burger". Was not a true smash burger, it appeared to be 2 perfect round patties that were not smashed. The char flavor tasted infused and not true flavor, so much as I could.t take enough tums. I emailed them numerous times to discuss this and anyone with stroke didnt bother replying. So Im posting this review

Yelp
If you want a great Wagyu Beef Burger then look no further. Seldomly offered at any other Key West restaurant, this one with a side of well done fries, has a premium price of $38.00. Pricey? Maybe, but the beef is super tender even when I order it medium-well. Since it rained earlier the temperature dropped so we ate on the front patio and did not sweat. Thankfully, they have several fans blowing hard onto the dining tables to help reduce customers from passing out. Live music on the patio tonight without an added entertainment fee with a full service liquor bar. No reservations required thru OpenTable.com unless on a weekend with a large group.

Yelp
Stopped by for dinner on a whim and were pleasantly surprised. The wait staff are as excellent as the food. The braised short ribs were delicious and the large raviolis were as delicious as they look. You can dine inside or outside. The decor is nice and the atmosphere was pleasant.

Judith M.

Yelp
Had the best chicken Caesar salad and my husband's almond encrusted fish was delicious as well. The service was great. We were not rushed at all. The only advice I would offer is to have the live musicians not break for so long between 7pm and 8pm. That was the height of street pedestrians. The live music would have brought in more business during that time period. Also anyone coming for dinner at 6:30 , as we did, had to wait an hour for the music to start again. All in all it was a great evening.

Yelp
This is a great decent size place that has all three types of dining; outdoor, covered, and indoor with AC. Our services was immaculate as they were extremely attentive and provided lots of personal suggestions on what to eat. The menu was small compared to other places on the island which allows them to focus on what they do good instead of trying to be everything to everybody. The only interesting thing was the motif as it seem to be very hodge podgy with random naked statues, gardens, and other strange things that made it hard to feel a vibe. Also stay away from the blue cheese olives as they are from a jar but you can tell they were extremely old and stale even with it being a brand new jar.

Yelp
Mangoes is in the perfect spot it hit before going out! I wasn't a huge fan of the cocktails here, but the manager was kind enough to take the drink off our bill. I ordered the lobster mac and cheese that was so rich and flavorful. Definitely shareable! They have a cute photo op area outside too for pictures.
google avatar

Shelbi G.

Yelp
MUST EAT HERE! First, it's adorable. I love the aesthetic. The menu was 10/10. You can sit indoor (AC) or outdoor. They also have free WiFi. Parking options just down the street! The watermelon salad was very fresh and flavorful!

Yelp
Came here for a wedding welcoming party and had the best time. There's paid parking scattered everywhere and within walking distance. We had the private room reserved which was just up a flight of stairs. The room was grand with a private bar, seating, dancing and dining area. It was the perfect space to accommodate the whole wedding party. The servers were kind and quick. The hor dourves were delish. We had pork belly, deviled eggs, conch fritters, tuna wontons, chicken, fish, veggies and burgers sliders. All were juicy and absolutely filling and tasty. Don't forget the bartenders that had the bar popping and nonstop ping. It was a beautiful evening to celebrate the couple. Restaurant was definitely prepared and went above and beyond. What a perfect spot to celebrate

Joseph B.

Yelp
The food was very plentiful, had a one man singer which made the night entertainment enjoyable. Service was good. I ordered appetizers, flash fried calamari and truffle fries which were excellent. Main dish was mango Salad was excellent. The family had the burger, nachos and lobster and cheese. All were satisfied and pleased. I would go there again.

Yelp
This place has a nice atmosphere with a big patio with cold air misting fan running full speed and we needed it today. Love sitting on the patio for people watching. Very rarely do I have a bad meal, mostly everything is tasty, until today. I ordered conch chowder and was disappointed with the bland taste. It was like a jar of tomato sauce was dropped into a bowl and served. Had to verify that it was not just my taste buds, everyone at the table took a taste and agreed with my opinion. The server took the chowder from the table and removed the item from the bill with no issues. This was a very rare food issue here. I ate half of my hubby's Wagyu burger and it was excellent. You can't win them all.

Yelp
Surprised this place has such a low rating but in key west for the day and needed a place covered with fans cause it's hot and dog friendly. I got a pina coloda it was kind light on the rum but it was creamy and refreshing. My Wife got the ceviche bowl with chips. I got a lobster roll with fries. Both were delicious. I was really surprised by the size of the lobster roll. It was filling for me. Mangoes has a great ambience next time we have to come during dinner.

Yelp
We passed by this island cuisine restaurant during our trip to Key West and I am glad we decided to go for dinner one night. Lively vibe, good service and decent food. We tried the special appetizer Mussels & Clam, it was pretty good. The Pre-Conch Republic Chowder was delicious. Watermelon Salad Toasted Rosemary Focaccia was refreshing for a hot weather meal. Hubby went for the Wagyu Double Smash Burger which was okay. It's definitely a cool place to grab a bite, drinks and chill.

Peyton H.

Yelp
We didn't get food, just drinks, but they had a great cocktail menu. We enjoyed the live music and the beer garden is nice.
google avatar

Jen S.

Yelp
Drinks weren't great which was a bummer, food was pretty good. Nice ambience at the bar, good for people watching too.
google avatar

Kat L.

Yelp
The best Pork Belly I have ever had! I would go back again just for that. The nachos and drinks were good.
google avatar

Stacy M.

Yelp
I would say no to this place. While it is an attractive restaurant right in the bustling Duval Street area, I would not recommend spending your hard earned money there. The three of us left half our meals. The hogfish & pinks were dry, way too much Parmesan in the sweet corn risotto. The grouper was greasy and the dragon bowl had a dry piece of fish on top. The conch fritters were good! I'll give a star for that. But we had to get our own plates to eat those. Just not a great experience all around. While our waitress was attentive as she could be, she was the only one working tonight; with a party of 16+ she was tending to.
google avatar

Kate F.

Yelp
Came here for happy hour - which is daily 4-6pm. Tried most of their happy hour menu (food, lol, not the booze). The bites were decent in taste (esp the tuna tacos), albeit a little small. Comparatively, this place is pricy (happy hour and their regular menu) and I was only mildly satisfied. The atmosphere is nice though and in great location for Duvall people watching. Despite being pretty empty, our service was slow. Prep for a laid back meal!
google avatar

Lauren H.

Yelp
Food was so good! And huge portions. Got a salad and po boy and BOTH were 10/10. I was skeptical at first, another overpriced tourist trap but the food quality was much better than most in the area.

Dawn L.

Yelp
Good food and drinks - excellent ambience, service at 2:30pm on a Saturday was good and not really busy. Great overall experience for some place we didn't find that we didn't need reservations nor have a wait at.
google avatar

Nelli O.

Yelp
Had a dinner at Mangoes last night. Our table was full per usual starting with nachos and ending with a delicious mango cheesecake. The meat was outstanding, tender and well made. The pineapple salad presentation was mind blowing. Kudos to their chef. Noise level was perfect for a Tuesday evening, the only thing it's a little bit chill during this season so maybe add a few more heaters.
google avatar

Lawrence Y.

Yelp
Came in for a quick bite before leaving after a fun filled week and it did not disappoint. The conch fritters were right on point. Moist, filled with delicious conch and a nice crispy exterior. The mimosa hit just right as well.
google avatar

Josh T.

Yelp
pretty good food on Duval. Prices like what you would expect in the area. service wasn't the best but overall pleasant experience.
google avatar

Steve S.

Yelp
We stopped by to have some drinks here. Didn't try any of the food but drinks were great. Very nice atmosphere and the bartender was friendly. Very good outdoor areas if you can handle the summer heat. If they had more fans, it would have been much better.
google avatar

Abhijit J.

Yelp
I will avoid this place. The drinks were not great. Same with the food as well. We did not even finish the whole food. The location is great, that's the reason we entered here. Service was ok. There was live music going on. But not worth the cost of food and drinks.
google avatar

Kevin C.

Yelp
Out walking late morning & stopped for a bite. Place was not busy. More of a dinner place. Very friendly wait staff Food was good. Nice presentation of food. Empanadas nice and flaky. The toast was fine. Plenty of outdoor seating. On the corner so lots of people watching

Andrew M.

Yelp
After walking 6 miles we needed a break and a drink. We stopped in to Mangoes and sat at the bar. Mike the bartender was spectacular and our drinks were tasty and affordable.
google avatar

Frank A.

Yelp
Awesome atmosphere right on Duval. The four of us sat at the bar for lunch and enjoyed it very much. I had the Cuban sandwich and it was very good.
google avatar

Jackson H.

Yelp
We passed by this place while walking down Duval Street and decided to give it a try. Actually we chose it because they had natural gas heaters on a cold December night. It was the only restaurant that had those heaters. We didn't go crazy with the food and only ordered lobster roll, and Mac & cheese. The food was good and the lobster roll was very tasty. The service was good as well but what I liked even more was their live music. Overall a good place to stop by for dinner.
google avatar

Alex G.

Yelp
Great spot to stop by, grab a bite, and some drinks!! very friendly atmosphere with a gorgeous dining room and plenty of outdoor seating options!! loved all the pants as-well a must try if you're in the area!!
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
We discussed coming here before our arrival in Key West and made a decision Friday night while walking by to stop in. We ended up splitting a shrimp cocktail appetizer, and a Caesar salad. Then we decided to split the shrimp scampi main course. The restaurant is fun, and the musician is excellent. It was fabulous for a date night, but if you're concerned about being overwhelmed by the music, do not sit at the table closest to the musician.
google avatar

Brett Z.

Yelp
Giving a star because our server was great, but I'd stay away. I had the frozen aperol spritz, which did not taste like anything at all. My husband's drink had black specks of something floating in it, our server took it back to the bar, and the one they sent out to replace it had the same black stuff floating around in it. Our nachos were OK (standard bar food with queso instead of real cheese) but when our entrees came out my husband's steak had a plastic wrapper in it. Our server was very gracious the whole thing, but there are just too many other good places to eat to waste a meal out on vacation. Also, we paid about $50 for 1 watered down drink and some chicken nachos.
google avatar

Peter D.

Yelp
My wife and I spent two fabulous evening dining and dancing. Food was excellent, service was outstanding and live entertainment will make you get out of the chair and on the dance floor. Dave Bootle puts on a show. Great voice and entertainer. We have not danced that much in 10 years. You will enjoy Mangoes!
google avatar

Joseph G.

Yelp
Pretty good food. Big plus was the option for a gluten free bun for the sandwhiches, will most likely go again
google avatar

Nalla R.

Yelp
This place was really nice. The food was delicious, I recommend the calamari and the drinks were really good. I suggest going and sitting at the bar for the bartender is really nice and knows what he's doing. Would recommend, a bit pricey but worth it for what you will get.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been living in Key West for 1.5 yrs and just now tried Mangoes. I stayed away because of the mediocre reviews and thought maybe it was a tourist trap, but I was wrong! My husband and I had such a wonderful experience for dinner here! We came on a random Wednesday night. There was a live musician on a keyboard who was such a fun entertainer. He knew great oldies songs to dance to and keep the crowd engaged during dinner & music. The food was amazing! We had the cauliflower appetizer which was good, but The main courses stole the show! I had the braised short rib, which melted in your mouth and was so delicious. My husband had the blackend cobia, which I thought was slightly overcooked, but still delicious and the side potatoes were to die for! The sauces and flavorings on both dishes were absolutely fantastic, great job, chef!! The service was a little slow, but hey, it's Key West and there was live entertainment so we weren't in a hurry anyway. Overall 4.5 stars ad rounding up because the food & music was so good. I'll be back!!
google avatar

Steve C.

Yelp
Nice outdoor setting, server was not very friendly. Menu is overpriced, even for KW. I had the lobster roll w/fries and my wife had the lobster mac & cheese, both were good, but nothing incredible. I grapefruit margarita was very light on alcohol.
google avatar

Richard G.

Yelp
Went for lunch, nice outdoor seating, inside extremely boring and dull. Good service and food was good, Prosciutto and Burrata appetizer was excellent, Lobster Salad Roll was just ok. They do charge 3% for using a credit card
google avatar

Richard V.

Yelp
The service was fast, friendly and fun! He said he had never made a coconut margarita before and I've never had one before and it was amazing and then we devoured this absolutely delicious breathtaking mango cheesecake... Our life is forever changed!!!
google avatar

Mystery R.

Yelp
Rude host. We wanted to have cold drinks. They say use bar tables. Not great accessibility for senior citizens to rest from long walking. There were plenty of tables available no one were there Not coming back ! Still rude
google avatar

Christy M.

Yelp
Service was very good. Live music playing. Arrived right before happy hour ended. Score! Started with Ahi Tacos, i.e. little bites of yumminess. Had to try the Conch Fritters! Wrapped it up with the pineapple salad with shredded pork - this was my fav!
google avatar

Nia G.

Yelp
While on a visit to Key West we had the opportunity to dine here. I had a good experience- good drinks, fresh food, and live chickens roaming around gave me good content for IG ... overall, very satisfied with eating here and outdoor eating is the best. A bit confusing with the seating initially was offered a high top but at the hightop the bar serves and you must get a menu and order at the bar, instead of full table service - boo- so we waited until someone was finished at the lower regular tables and moved. We did order conch fritters but they were over cooked(very well done) so we sent them back- no issues with this, and overall our other items were very satisfying and we were happy. The restroom took me on a journey through the garden, so happy I went as there were nice statues to see and picture taking opportunities.

Frank F.

Yelp
3 out of 4 meals were good. The smash burger is bad. Told only cooked one way, asked for medium well. It was dry as a hockey puck. Would have asked for condiments if I had seen the server. My bad for not chasing them down. Service was okay. Food received fast but server was indifferent, did not check back until the bill was due. No refills. Ambiance was great!
google avatar

Linda O.

Yelp
Great ambience, especially at night. We ate on the patio and got to watch the people on the street and listen to a guitarist. Both my husband and I had the Lobster Roll, and it did not disappoint. We're from New York and travel to New England regularly, so we know lobster rolls. These were delish, right down to the rolls, which were buttered and toasted. I had the yucca fries which were a great change from potato fries. Great food!
