The Best Places to Eat in Pike Place Market, Seattle | Eater

"A beloved, no-frills spot in the Corner Market where plates overflow with traditional Filipino comfort foods — homestyle pork adobo, tangy longanisa sausage with rice, pancit noodles, and salmon sinigang — served in limited daily quantities that can sell out by early afternoon." - Lesley Balla

Google
Why hidden gem, Looking at it from the outside you wouldn't know it also had a restaurant in the back cranking out some delicious authentic Filipino cuisine. The dishes are different on the daily, and the desserts are a must try as well. Good portions for the price. I didn't like that the lumpia was soggy and very oily. The Ube dessert wasn't my favorite either, but the Cassava one was. The ladies at the counter are so kind and hospitable, they get 5 stars for their service.

Google
I went to check out the market and discovered that it was also a very reasonably priced takeout/cafe. My $14.63 got me two vegetable lumpia ($1.19 each), a two item combo of crispy pork and a beef stew ($9), and a slice of sapin sapin ($3.25) for dessert. A great place to try Filipino food.

Rachelle Ong

Google
Excellent food. Reasonable prices and big enough space for anyone who wants to dine in.

Google
Pinoy grocery items and delicacies were pretty cheaper than other Filipino stores. The store can get busy and very crowded and some items at turo-turo are only available during weekends.

Google
Buyers getting balikbayan boxes from this place, beware! If your balikbayan boxes are picked up from your home, you will be required to pay the full price of the shipping cost. The shipping company will not honor the initial deposit you placed at this store. Here’s the kicker: the deposit made at the store that was supposed to be deducted from the total shipping cost (which is a payment to the shipping company, not the store) will not be returned by the store. The store claims they inform customers about this policy (I was not made aware). I know that I am not the only one who has experienced this deception.

Google
The woman cashier at the turo turo section was VERY rude to me. Filipinos being rude to fellow Filipinos. Very sad and disappointed as I frequent this place.

Great food served hot. I go repeatedly. Fries fish, chicharone, skewers of chicken and many other dishes

1 Small entree $5 comes with rice. Cafeteria style stocked at noon so come early. Perfect for Low budget in times of inflation. Botted water 99cents.

Yelp
Delicious Filipino food. A hidden jem. They cater too. We just had their pancit and lumpia for my daughter's graduation party. Both were amazing and very generous portions.

Yelp
2-item combo $9-something each comes with rice and $3.50/stick of barbecue. Best deal and quality I've seen in northern Birginia. Good home cooked food that doesn't break the bank and also can I add the food wasn't overly salty or greasy like most Filipino food I've tried. The quality of the food was also very fresh for a carrenderia. Portions are great and the service was excellent. Very clean tables and easy to grab n go. There is $5 minimum to pay with card and you pay in same line as the grocery market they will just print you out a label n you take it up to the register.

Yelp
If nothing else then come. That's pretty much my sentiment about this market w/restaurant. The market selection is limited, the dessert items are limited, the turo turo food is average and good customer service is non-existent. Stopped by on 3 occasions simply because it's located by the hotel and we were hopeful that each visit would result in something delicious.

Nel V.

Yelp
Since the retirement of the original owners, the service especially at the food area has deteriorated. There is this rude young female server that needs to be schooled in manners and customer relations. I hope she improves or gas been already fired.
google avatar

Yelp
This place has a market on one side and a kitchen on the other. They have a lot of dishes and the prices are not that bad. I got the sausage and lumpia and both were ok. The pancit was also on that quality level too. They have a $5 minimum for card use which could be a problem since they have low prices. The food is just ok and I probably would not go back.

Yelp
My friends were looking for a spot to go that we have never been to. I found this place and a lot of people have been talking about it and let me tell you, this is the spot to go to. This is the first time I've had filipino food and it was AMAZING! When you first walk in, it is - as the name suggests - a market. There are a whole ton of filipino goods from ube pandesal to mango drinks and so much more! The hot food is through the entryway on the right and it is a cute bar where someone serves you! Everything was so flavorful at such a great price. I had the combo with pancit, lechon, and barbecue. The lechon was crispy and juicy and came with a sauce that was a but sweet and sour. Words cannot describe the flavor this lechon was providing. Then, I took a bite out of the barbecue and the meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned. It reminded me of cha shiu from the chinese butchers. The pancit was a nice base and had good flavor. All together this meal knocked it out of the park and I thought about going again the next day haha!

Yelp
Love coming here and I really enjoy their food. The grocery area is great as well. The people working here are super nice.
google avatar

Monica R.

Yelp
Decent mom&pops spot where the food is cooked, placed on warmers for you to choose your combination plate. Prices are reasonable to the quality of the food and the portions the provide. It's just a bit tricky because the selection isn't that wide and not everything is included and you have to pay extra. No fancy decor which is fine because it's a fast food type of place. People are nice. And I always hit up the store on my way out.

J G.

Yelp
Does anyone have a good phone number for them? I need to call regarding a catering order. Love this place!
google avatar

Yelp
We went when they were closing but they packed up all their remaining BBQ skewers (pork and chicken), longanisa (cute lil delicious sausages), and a small order of Laing (taro leaves braised in coconut milk). Skewers were amazing, despite being the end of the day. I can only imagine how they tasted when they came out fresh. Longanisa was great. Laing... Wow! Earthy, sweet, creamy, it's everything you could ask for in an unhealthy veggie dish. Really truly delicious. Can't wait to come back when it's NOT closing time and try some more variety.

Yelp
Whenever I'm in the Springfield neighborhood, I always look up Manila Oriental Market, aka MOM, to see how far I am. It would be a shame to only be a few minutes drive from MOM and not pick up some lechon, longanisa, or some other delicious meated entrée. Their food when paired with rice is just so homey and warm, the perfect meal for a cold day and you're not quite wanting soup, but just something to warm you up. While I'm not Filipino myself, it has been thoroughly vouched for and verified ($8 Twitter style) by subject matter experts who have a thorough understanding of what it means to be an authentic Filipino joint. A bonus is that the MOM is literally a market, and you can shop for some exclusive Filipino goods while you pick up some food to go. TL;DR: If you're looking for some homey Filipino food, and you're in Springfield, visiting MOM is a no-brainer.

Yelp
So I just happened to find this place while trying to eat in Springfield and wanted to check it out since there isn't many "good" Filipino food places where I live. There is a small market area selling Filipino groceries and the other side is where they serve the Filipino food. To my surprise they had some of my favorites like Sinigang, Lechon, Pancit, Bangus, Longonisa, etc. They all tasted really great especially the Lechon! the halo halo was good as well. I think the Turon can be sweeter. I liked it so much I even catered from them for my sons bday party. My in-laws who happened to be Filipino were visiting from Cali and they are very critical towards Filipino food but even they were impressed. Thats why I'm giving them a 5/5 cause they know how to cook Filipino cuisine!

Luke I.

Yelp
The only mom/pop style Pilipino food style restaurant in the DMV area! I had the chicken adobo and it had the perfect amount of soy sauce and vinegar combination-yummy! If it was closer to home I'd be coming her literally every week!

Yelp
This is a small grocery store with lots of specialty Filipino items and a cafe serving Filipino food. A friend suggested this place. Found it on Yelp with only 4 reviews with an average of  3.25 stars within the last 12 months. This was our first visit and we hoped for the best.    The grocery store had fresh produce, pastries, sauces, seasonings, snacks, frozen products, refrigerated products, noodles, rice, etc. All tailored to help you make your favorite Filipino food. My wife and I bought yellow bean cakes, Crema de Ube, Suman sa Ligia and frozen Manila's Ihawan steamed pork buns. The yellow bean cakes tasted just like the chinese version with the same name. The filling was mildly sweet with a ground bean texture. The crust was flakely with a waxy texture on the surface. It was good tasting to me only because I grew up eating food like this. My wife thought it was OK.    The Crema de Ube was Ube in mashed potato form with milk, egg, butter and a small amount of sugar. If you love Ube, this is for you.    The Suman sa Ligia was sweet rice with a tiny amount of sugar wrapped in a banana leaf. Tasted like plain sweet rice. The surface areas that were green, had a hint of smokiness from the leaf. We've had better versions of sweet rice wrapped in banana leaves.    The Manila's Ihawan steamed pork buns were soft and slightly sweet with a taste of powdered milk. The addition of powdered milk in a pork bun dough makes it much more tastier than not adding it. The filling was minced pork with a slightly sweet oyster sauce flavor. This was very good in flavor and texture.    The cafe had ready-made food in warming pans like a buffet table. So this rating is based on a comparison of buffet like food, not made-to-order food. We've had the privilege of eating great Filipino food at friend's and relative's homes. They were born in the Philippines and one relative was a chef. So, our standards are a little high. We ordered tungi tungi and 2 combination platters. Each platter came with white rice and 3 choices.    The tungi tungi was chewy and not crispy. It was pretty dense, plain and not sweet except for a light amount of caramel on the outside. It tasted like a plain sweet rice dough, no powdered milk or coconut milk. This should be eaten immediately after it is made, while it is crispy. They really shouldn't sell this.    Our platters had chicken curry, pancit, lumpia, barbeque pork and longganisa. The chicken curry had white meat that was tender and only slightly dry. The sauce was made with a mildly spicy yellow curry. The curry was thick, but there was some oil that was separated from the sauce. It would probably help the flavor if the oil could be blended into the sauce. Overall, it was OK.    The pancit vegetables and noodles were cooked right, but the sauce was missing some flavor. There was no noticeable sesame oil, or chicken broth. The liquid seasoning was a little weak. Overall, it wasn't the worst we've had. Let's call it so-so, needs improvement.    The lumpia was crispy with a good tasting wrap. The filling was finely shredded vegetables that were seasoned decently. We got 3 pieces and the size was larger than some other places. Overall, it was good.    The barbeque pork was tender and grilled just right. It had a great combination of flavors from the charring, the pork and the sweet marinade. This was excellent and easily the best dish here.    The longganisa was a sweet pork sausage. We got 3 pieces. It was encased and oily on the outside. It was sweet with a good fried flavor and a balanced amount of seasoning. Overall, it was good because I love chinese sausage and this was similiar.    The store and cafe are old looking and in need of renovation. The restroom was also dated, but relatively clean. The service was quick in both areas. There was plenty of space in the cafe for ordering, but only 4 tables for dine-in. Many tables were not allowed to be used. The grocery store checkout area was too small for covid spacing because people were entering, looking at food items, waiting in line, checking out and leaving in one area. There was a lot of people traffic in that one modest size area. It cleared out pretty quickly though. We would definitely come back to this place for specialty items and meals.

Yelp
I love this place when I just want to pick up quick Filipino food for dinner. They have various dishes that are available there and you can just point out what you want. I recommend sausages, sisig and beef stew. I always get a big jar of ube (purple yam) ice cream as well. The supermarket register area has super religious signs that are very inappropriate but that's just part of the deal!

Yelp
Manila Oriental Market is a Filipino mart located off of Commerce in Springfield. They have ready-made foods to-go, such as beef and chicken empanadas, dinner rolls, desserts, etc., as well as a selection of grocery items and produce. On the other side is a hot food bar with combos and platters. But, forget about everything else! If you're in the know, you know that this is THE place to get some halo-halo, a Filipino shaved ice dessert with evaporated milk, sweet beans, tubers, coconut, sago, and gulaman. Think of falooda or che, but so much better! You can opt for a scoop of ube ice cream, which I highly recommend! The dessert comes in a cup, and it is not overly sweet, refreshing, creamy from the milk and the ice cream, and yummy with the various beans and jelly-like colorful bits floating around within. Just note that you pay everything up at the front in the market side, but you can bring all your items back and enjoy in the cafe section. Parking is available in the shared lot. +Halo-Halo :D +friendly staff +pay up at the front (market side) +free shared plaza lot

Yelp
Sayang kasi Hindi mabait, hindi masarap yung pagkainan, sa kababayan nalang kami! Sayang talaga

Natalie A.

Yelp
Always happy with the food choices and quality. Kitchen was working hard refilling emptied out containers. $11.50 for a three choice combo plate. $.99 for a veggie lumpia. $2.50 for a BBQ skewer. Pancit was made with a mix of egg and rice noodle and plenty of veggies and chicken.

Yelp
Manila Oriental has some of the most authentic Filipino food you can find in the DMV! They have a wide variety of cooked Filipino food with amazing flavors - i really recommend getting the combo with rice and two types of meals!! You will never go wrong with any combination. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Both the grocery section and the cafeteria section are stocked with great food! The items are also fairly cheap! I will definitely come again :)

Yelp
Extra star for the kare kare! Like a typical Filipino mother, my husband's mom sent him home with a Tupperware container of oxtail stew (aka: kare kare) for me to eat since I was unable to visit them that weekend. I've had a not-so-great experience with the hot food bar at Manila Oriental before, but this was effing fantastic. Kare Kare is not an easy dish to create and is often ruined due to impatience since you need to slow cook the meat, skim the fat, and other un-fun stuff. This one was chock full of creamy peanut sauce, fresh veggies, and super tender meat. It's super legit and even features tripe (I ate around it as I have been doing since I was a child). Even though this is my favorite Filipino dish, I have not attempted to create this at home because 1) oxtail is expensive and 2) nobody has time for that. I got to give props where credit is due because this was just as good as Nanay's. Plus - - take out bagoong. It doesn't get much better than that!

Yelp
So glad this Filipino store is near Alexandria---not far at all. They have almost everything! Filipino deserts upfront from different companies and all the items you'll need to cook your favorite dishes (just like your nanay/Lola makes). Hey, if you don't feel like cooking at least stop by get your ingredients and go to their restaurant area and order some delish Filipino dishes! They have halo halo too which always hits the spot. Great, friendly staff which is always nice and makes you want to be a regular.

Yelp
Awesome owners Good food and authentic Filipino dishes. The Lechon kawali is to die for and the super crunchy scud (galumggong) fish were amazing.
google avatar

Charry L.

Yelp
An amazing place for quick take-outs. Prices are reasonable and I would highly recommend palabok, sinigang, and adobo. Finish it off with a cool halo-halo. Don't forget to pick up some summan or cassava cake for dessert. Some menu items need calling-ahead to avoid the long wait. The staff are kind and hospitable. I foresee myself visiting quite often.

Yelp
Filipinos say wooooohhh! This is one of my dave grocery stores! I make it a point to go here to complete my grocery shopping. This is where I can find the Filipino food I miss eating and Filipino ingredients i use for my cooking. They have the local dishes pinoys love.

Yelp
The phone number is a fax number? Why???????Useless to call if you eft something behind or inquire the price of some food stuff. Or just afraid for spam calls
google avatar

Em A.

Yelp
Staff could use some customer service training. I came across some that were just annoyingly rude and obnoxious. Food is waaaay overpriced for the quality. Doesn't even taste good and these fools have the audacity to price their products the way they do? Lmao. There are a lot of filipino establishments in the area, stay away from this one. Arrogant employees think they own the filipino market in Virginia or something

Betty M.

Yelp
Why is it that when I call, your phone is always on fax mode? Do you have another number I can call? I live more than an hour away from you. I need to ask someone there if you have the items I need before I go there. Please don't leave your phone on fax mode all the time. Otherwise, I will just go to another Filipinio store also an hour away in the opposite direction. I only go to the Filipino store once every three months!

Kathryn S.

Yelp
Closes to early each day of the week And on weekends . You would Think they would be open longer during the week ans on weekends . I have never heard of a restaurant that Closing at 6:00. Crazy! People Are just getting off work and might want to bring dinner home . The weekends are the same. Makes No sense. Just as the size of the dining room . Really ... The Food is Good. However ,the Food is Better at the Manila Cafe in Springfield . I won't complain because it close to my house. I have been there several times and the price the charge the Trio , you should get a bit more food .

Yelp
I haven't had authentic Filipino food for a while since I had lived in Vienna, Austria for the last two years. They're about as common out there as Austrian restaurants are in Arizona. Anyway, here in Northern Virginia/Washington DC, there is a substantial Filipino population, and this place did not disappoint. My first time here, I had some crispy pork (lechon), some "dinuguan" (pork blood stew), and a large heap of white rice to compliment these dishes. One morning for breakfast, I had "longsilog" (longanisa sausage, which is like a sweet/savory fried sausage, scrambled eggs, and garlic fried rice), which was so good. And today, before leaving Virginia to fly back out West, I tried the pork "pata" adobo (made with pork hocks), and a side order of sinigang soup (Filipino hot and sour soup with meat and veggies). It's just heaven. The dishes may vary from day to day, and what might be available one afternoon may not be available the next. So that's why I had to knock it down one star, to be absolutely fair about it. But the food is excellent and the service is friendly.
google avatar

Lance C.

Yelp
Sislog is "off-menu," but for the 10 min wait, it's a good home style start of the day. Just make sure they don't break the egg yoke, and don't add salt (plenty of that in the pork pieces.) it is meant to be mixed just before eating. The yokes are the sauce.
google avatar

Ron H.

Yelp
Manila Oriental has built a solid reputation and avid following by the Northern Virginia Filipino community for years. They finally outgrew their previous location and moved into Springfield to meet demand. Problem is, they have become so popular that they may have to expand again soon. If you come on the weekends, the place is usually packed and you might have to wait to find a seat. The hot food is the draw. They serve the best Filipino food on this side of the Potomac except for the kind cooked by Lola and Nanay (Grandma and Mom) at home. They are still your best bet for great Philippine cuisine in northern Virginia. Half of the business is grocery, the other half is the eatery. The same owners from the Bailey's Crossroads location are here and they have always been some of the best people you ever want to meet. If you come from California or New York, you might thumb your nose at their offerings, but if you are in Virginia and need your Filipino fix, Manila Oriental is as good as it gets.

Brian A.

Yelp
Great food and great prices. Like we're back in Manila (well, a bit more expensive than Manila - but impossible to charge Manila prices in America)
google avatar

Veronica C.

Yelp
I remember this store back in falls church days. The owners are extremely nice. The cafe is great for homemade filipino food. I love love love the kare-kare with bagoong and rice. The market still needs work. Reason why I am giving it three: Cafe Ambiance: Casual and normal for filipino fast dining. Sanitation is needed. Food: Good while it is still hot and fresh. Customer Service: Nice but a bit pushy especially to those who are unfamiliar with the process. Need a bit improvement. Store My major complaint is the bakery left out. I caught several not once but several moldy breads...that is unacceptable. So when purchasing, check the food! Another minor thing, limited products compare to years before. Everything else is still good.

Yelp
I visited twice in November 2018 for lunch. The fried fish was very delicious. I also tried some of he other items and enjoyed it. The staff was very friendly. I wish they had the names of the dishes with a description of what is in it.

Yelp
Sana may libreng kape hahaha!
google avatar

Cindy L.

Yelp
Like most Filipino restaurants in the area, Manila Oriental is half grocery store, half cafeteria style restaurant. Prices are affordable and you get your food quick. My boyfriend and I got here right before the lunch rush on a Saturday and ordered the lechon kawali, laing, kare kare, dinuguan, and some pork skewers - all favorites of ours! I was craving sisig as well but was told they didn't have any that day. The food was decent although some of it had gone lukewarm, which definitely takes away from the appeal of fried foods like lechon kawali. And while the flavors of the kare kare and dinuguan were great, the beef in the kare kare was dry and hard to chew, and the dinuguan was much oilier than ones I've had in the past. Good thing we decided to get a halo halo afterwards because that turned out to be the best part of our meal. If we lived closer, I'd probably give this place another try, but we drove a bit out of the way to get here and just weren't impressed enough to come running back.
google avatar

Gerald R.

Yelp
there is one thing people should ask for and get that they only make every Saturday- Pork menudo!! I get at least 2 quarts to go each month. Flavor is always consistent. One of my favorite dish 5/5
google avatar

Ronald L.

Yelp
This place is a gem. The people here are really nice, and the to go filipino food here is pretty good. I usually get the bbq and lechon kawali. They lechon is a little fatty but I usually go home and air fry them so it doesnt bother me too much. Palabok here is really good too. They also have tasty filipino sweets like bibinka and ube cake here too.

Yelp
Been 4 years that I haven't visited this place. The first time We went here we ordered Halo-Halo and "Chicharon Bulaklak" bc we missed Philippines. Since I'm back here again, I had Fried Milk fish, Liempo and Sinigang. Aaahhh feels like home. They have mini grocery too. So if you're craving for Filipino food and snacks, stop by this place.

Yelp
This was my 1st time having Filipino food in a restaurant. I'm giving it 3 stars for food but 5 stars for service! When we arrived they could tell by our faces we had no idea what to get or what the food was. The woman stopped what she was doing and explained every item, offered samples, and suggestions. I enjoyed my food (the chicken) but my friend did not enjoy his meal. Everything was prepared perfectly but the seasoning was not for him. The portion size was good and the inexpensiveness was even better :)! As noted the food eating section is very small and VERY packed! Luckily we were able to get a seat. Other patrons had to stand while enjoying their meal. After eating we walked around the store and once again someone tried to help us decide what treats to buy. My review isn't that great bc I really don't know this type of food so I can't make comparisons on how I think it should taste, but if you like experimenting I would def give it a try. The customer service was very good and I would return again to try something else.

Yelp
Love the market and restaurant section. However, if you order anything on the short order menu there is a 70% chance you will be told the cook/chef cannot make make your order. It doesn't matter what day or time it is, your request is at the mercy of the chef if he feels like cooking it or not. We stop in here every other week and the occasions we have asked for lumpia or palabok or anything on the short order menu, we've always received a "no." This last time we asked to order something to pick up at a later time, they said the cook closes the kitchen at 5pm, even though the restaurant part closes at 7pm. And then they tell us the cook will go ahead and cook our order but he will stick it in the refrigerator for us to pick up. It was 508pm at this point, clearly they didn't check the time before making up an excuse or lie to us about the cook "accommodating" us. All in all: great Philippine food staples and supplies in the market area, prepped food is great, just don't expect much if you are trying to order anything on the short menu list.

Yelp
Just discovered this small shop. Shelves looked a bit bare at first ... but once you browse through it you will find an impressive collection of all the basic ingredients of Filipino food that are so hard to find in the DC area. Will be back regularly!

Yelp
Extremely generous portions at a great price! My boyfriend and I spontaneously walked into Manila Oriental Market about 45 minutes before they were closing for the evening. The established is divided into two parts - 1 part market and 1 part cafe. Since we came in so late, the selection was limited, but no matter! I was excited to try some Filipino food. I should note that this was my first experience with Filipino food, and I am a fan. The lady who was working the cafe that night was a little terse and didn't feel like recommending or explaining the various offerings, but I've dealt with my fair share of unfriendly Asian women, so all was good. I ended up getting their 2-entree combo, which comes with 2 entrees of your choice and a heaping side of white rice. I ended up going with the pancit and one of their pork selections. I enjoyed the pancit, and while the pork dish was a little on the salty side for me, the flavor profile was really good. I'm definitely stopping by again when I can order off of their full menu. Their kitchen closes quite early, and the only options available after that are at the hot food bar. What a gem! Can't believe it took me so long to give it a try.

Yelp
Staff are friendly and the owners the nicest people Convenient location Plenty of parking space Great Filipino grocery selection Come early around 11am - 12pm and the food are fresh and taste excellent and like others said, just like how our Lola use to make. A real Authentic Filipino cuisine. We go once a month to shop and eat and never disappoints.

So grateful I have a Filipino market and turo turo/takeout so close to home. Thank you MOM!

Yelp
I've been wanting to try more Filipino joints, and I happened to be nearby this place. It's behind the more prominent shopping center off of Old Keene Mill, but still easy to get to. Half of the establishment is a restaurant with plenty of seating. I ordered adobo and menudo, my comfort foods. The other half of the place is a typical grocery store. I picked up some frozen Siopao and Pancit noodles too. No one else is going to care but me, but I was saddened that they didn't have Tito Al's Choice pancit noodles. I bought some brand I wasn't familiar with. The reason I give three stars was that I thought their hot food was just so so. The adobo chicken was pretty dry, and I got a lot of bay leaves to pick out of my food. The menudo was better than the adobo I think.

Yelp
Ordered a halo halo today with two scoops of ube ice cream. It was delicious and not too sweet. It has shaved ice, condensed milk, and many other ingredients. The toppings had a mixture of sweetened beans, jack fruit, leche flan, and some type of coconut flavored jelly. This is one of my favorite spots for good halo halo. They also have prepared Filipino dishes available as well.

Yelp
Such a great source for Filipino food, ingredients, and delicious snacks! Just discovered this place and plan to come back a lot to get my fix! Yay! I'm so happy to have found this as it is not easy to find in the DMV area!

Yelp
Winner winner! We found out about this market and decided to stop by. They have a restaurant in the back which is DELICIOUS. Made fresh lumpia, piping hot food to select from and everyone was so nice. In the market there's tons to choose from and lots of imported baked goods as well. All prices are typical of any type of international marker
