Mil Bakery Review - Koreatown - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Choosing just one baked good from this Korean cafe should be considered villainy. Mil Bakery serves a rotating list of unique pastries that will have you inventing new words to describe how good they taste. Run by an ex-Clark Street Bread baker, this inventive bake shop offers things like pound cake with aromatic ssuk herb, hojicha mochi muffins with toasted black sesame seeds, and miso honey cinnamon rolls. Mil is currently looking for a permanent brick-and-mortar, but you can pick up some incredible baked goods at their pop-up inside in Koreatown. The small pastry operation is open for walk-ins Friday to Sunday, but we recommend pre-ordering a box ahead of time because they do sell out." - Nikko Duren

I love the shaved ice (bingsoo) and the cheesecake here! I didn't try anything else, although I noticed they offer a variety of baked goods ranging from sprinkle cookies to differently flavored cakes to cream puffs. Location is hard to find parking, but anyone can take the bus!

I visited on Saturday morning. June 21st and bought a Mocha cake, but the cake was not soft, the bread was too rough and tasteless. I wanted to call and return it. but i didn't because i started eating it. My mom told me to buy from Tour les Jours from now on. because the bread from Tour les Jours is so soft and melts in mouth. It's a waste of money. And there are a lot of people working, but somehow it looks chaotic and hectic, so i will never go there again.

Cool 80-90’s style Korean bakery. Reasonable price and friendly staff. We got 점보빵, 팥소보로, 크림치즈빵, 옥수수빵 and they were delicious. I wish cream cheese stuff inside bun sweeter though, but was okay. easy parking.

Google
This review is really for their "Koroke" since that's the only thing I got. They have two versions: the traditional fried one and a healthier baked alternative. Do yourself a favor and go with the fried.... much better! It brought back so many childhood memories. It was incredibly delicious and packaged well. The lady was very kind in showing me the options available, but I only came to get that. I look forward to coming back and getting more Koroke along with trying some of the other options. Each Koroke was $3.

Simple coffee for a simple coffee drinker was perfect - very friendly staff!

Google
Amazingly delicious cakes and pastries! We bought a last minute birthday cake and were given free candles and even a few free cream puffs. Owner/worker was very kind and helpful. It was clear that every effort was made to keep the bakery sanitary and distanced in regards to the pandemic regulations. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
I really enjoyed going to manmi bakery over the weekend. Manmi is a local bakery that specializes in korean bread/baked goods/cakes that seems to be run by a family. Sweet potato Bento Cake: 8.5/10 - soft not too sweet. They have a variety of different Korean breads sold here for a fair price compared to all the other cafés around Koreatown. I also bought a green bean bread just to see what it tasted like and was surprised because the taste wasnt too sweet and had a great balance of flavor and sweetness to it. I would rather buy the bread here rather than some other places because some other places are too sweet or too expensive for what it is. Reminds me of the older days. Nostalgic memories. Staff is run by what it seems to be a family and they are so nice and attentive. They have like two tables outside to sit if you wanna dine in. To use a debit card or a credit card your total needs to be $10 or greater Parking - they have a big lot to park in for free.

Yelp
Where Ajumma's Watching and the Desserts Are "Not Too Sweet" Manmi Bakery is the kind of place where you feel like you've stepped into your Korean grandma's living room--if your grandma happened to bake 500 pastries every morning and kept one eye on you at all times. The 아줌마 (ajumma) here is attentive. She's not just serving pastries; she's silently judging your choices (with love) and making sure you don't put too many tongs in one tray. Respect her system, or face the consequences. This is a self-serve bakery with no frills and no nonsense. The baked goods are unapologetically Korean, leaning into those "not too sweet" flavors that Asians swear by as the gold standard of desserts. You won't find cloying frosting here--just soft breads, subtly sweet buns, and pastries that whisper sweetness rather than scream it. If you know, you know. The prices are as comforting as the food--reasonable and wallet-friendly. You can walk out with a tray full of goodies and still feel like you're winning at life. So if you're in Koreatown and looking for a no-fuss spot with flavors that feel like a warm hug (or a loving scold from ajumma), Manmi Bakery is your place. Just don't dawdle in line; ajumma is watching.

Yelp
Manmi Bakery is located near BDC Tofu in the: Western Plaza Shopping strip mall. This bakery is the second location to their Garden Grove location that's known for : Cream Puffs. Besides their famous cream puffs, their traditional Korean sweet breads and cakes are stellar. My favorites are the Chapssal donuts (chewy rice flours donut ball filled red bean with chestnuts), sweet potato pastry, and Azuki bean sweet bread. The cream puffs are rich and custard filled- heavenly. Cash and Credit accepted . Parking: plenty in a large private lot.
google avatar

Jiemei G.

Yelp
The cream puffs are so cute they are $1 each and come prepackaged in sets of 3 or 6 in the fridge. Lots of red bean and other Asian flavored buns. Priced so economically you can try a lot of things. Their breads look amazing too but they are very large

Yelp
Great lil mom-and-pop bakery! Service is great and has a large shared parking lot. This is a no-frills kind of bakery. Generally, what they offer aren't fancy but are solid basic korean-style pastries. I especially like their white bean pastry. And my goodness, they do not skimp on their fillings! Just that alone will have me coming back. Haven't gotten their cakes but they look nice and are fairly priced. They also sell coffee and korean shaved ice, which I'll have to try one day! I'll keep coming back as long as they're open :)

Yelp
Really a great store! I had to go in early in the morning to pick up a cake for later that night and needed something that would hold. They suggested the cheesecake cake (cake on the bottom, cheesecake on top). It was beautifully decorated. They provided the plastic knife, candles and matches too! Very very complete and thoughtful. They let me pick out 1 pastry as a gift! Everything was freshly made and was super tasty!

Yelp
had to pick up a birthday cake and saw this little bakery close by w good reviews! I went in early afternoon on a Monday and there were a few people outside but no one inside. I saw it was a fairly small bakery, but the cake selection was p good! it had a nice quaint feeling of a local bakery which I appreciated. there were also freshly baked breads that were individually wrapped for sale but I was in a bit of a time crunch. there was only one lady working there who was v sweet and patient with me. i took a while to decide since I wasn't sure which flavor to get at first. I ended up choosing the sweet potato one since it was such a unique flavor and it was a hit! the size was perfect and the flavor wasn't too sweet (which is appreciated for asian desserts). the price was fair considering it's a small business and was a decent size (8 slices!) there were also bits of sweet potato in the cake which I surprisingly enjoyed overall a great experience and I would love to support them again when I'm in the area!

Yelp
Stumbled upon this shop and loved it. I tried some cream puffs which were perfectly filled and easy to stuff whole on my mouth. I picked up some mocha filled bread and cream filled bread as well and loved both. It's not too sweet, soft and moist.
google avatar

Aileen R.

Yelp
Terribly rude service. The worker saw me waiting for a cake and decided to help someone else instead. I had been to this bakery before and even had excellent service in the past. I guess times change. But never again.
google avatar

Lily K.

Yelp
Their cream puff were so bad. Dry on the outside and thick paste like cream on the inside. It's a heavy snack. The filling def taste like there were thickeners to prevent the cream puff from getting soggy from being in the fridge for a while. It also tastes like a fake vanilla flavor.. im sure they have other great breads but I wouldn't go for their cream puffs. Some got left in my fridge for 2 weeks and it didn't grow mold so I guess they put preservatives in it too. It makes me wonder how long ago they made the ones I ate.
google avatar

Yelp
I came here looking for soborro bread and bought a fee extra. I froze some because I'm too lazy to make the 20 minutes drive to KTown and the defrosted bread tasted just as good! Buy 10 get one 1. All the ladies are really nice. Their cream puff and mocha cake rolls are both delicious as well.

Yelp
Had to write a review the same day because this bakery deserves so much love! I called a few bakeries in KTown to look for what I want.. since I don't speak Korean, a lot of them were impatient borderline unhappy with me, 1 bakery simply hung up lol. The lady at Manmi was exceptionally nice from the start. Not only did they have a 6in cake which is what I was hoping for, when I asked her to set a cake aside for me, she said they make it fresh! I called at 11am they had it ready at noon, an hour later! Crazy :O she was so patient, so kind, so helpful. The mocha cake i got was absolutely delicious, not too sweet, beautiful, and you can tell it's made with attention to details. I won't go anywhere else from now on for cake, seriously. They also have lots of bread and cookies, will check them out next time! Thank you Manmi Bakery!!

Yelp
This is my go to bakery for the yummy yellow cream puff. Unfortunately for me, the bread is meh but the custard inside is just so delicious that I'd rather come here and pay money for cream puffs even thought I'm not eating the bread part if that makes any sense lol they really are generous with the filling so it's worth it! I can't compare them to other bakeries when it comes to their cream puff filling! I really tried to love their other bread and tried them but everything else is meh honestly

Jean K.

Yelp
Called to order a sweet potato cake and they said it will be made fresh. I picked it up 3 hours after I placed the order which was amazing! As we were cutting into it, it felt hard, the cake was frozen.... The sweet potato cream layer had not defrosted. Called them & they offered a new one but didn't want to make the trip.

Yelp
Pretty good egg sandwich, I stopped by aiming to get some cream puffs. The store associate told me that they won't be ready until 11am. I could always call ahead and reserve for next day. So still need to go try it so that I can order ahead for the next morning.
google avatar

Janie B.

Yelp
The breakfast sandwiches are hearty, really delicious, and very affordable. The parking lot is spacious, and with free parking, there's no need to worry about parking fees. Truly delicious

Snow L.

Yelp
Pastry is overly sweet and quality does not match price. Services is ok nothing special. Ambiance is normal. Again nothing special about this place that makes me want to come back.

Pauline H.

Yelp
Love their cream puffs. The filling of custard is delightful. Good proportion of cream and puff. Quick services. Parking can be an issue on busy weekend. Kids love them. I keep returning to this place.

Yelp
Great fruit cake! Very close to it and the owners are very friendly and helpful. The cake is not too sweet ;)

Armine N.

Yelp
I called for a custom cake order and they did an amazing job! I am very picky and they really surpassed my expectations. The store was very clean inside and the bakers the team were helpful. The box for the cake came with a large plastic knife perfect for cutting the cake. My friends and family all loved the cake. Chocolate with chocolate buttercream filling.

Cesar M.

Yelp
Amazing bakery! Love the cake here. I'm always coming in to purchase cake for birthdays & they always give you free bread with your purchase, very friendly staff!

Kevin C.

Yelp
Great and delicious bread and prices! This place is actually a koreatown staple I grew up coming to this bakery on the weekends whenever my family and I came out to ktown. Just found out they do wedding cakes too, check this spot out!
google avatar

Cindy M.

Yelp
Ordered a custom cake for my son's first birthday and it was delicious! It was a little pricey (i didn't shop around for prices, unfortunately) $250 but it was a very cute cake and not too sweet, just sweet enough! All our guests loved the cake. I will definitely be returning!
google avatar

Lea A.

Yelp
Small, cute Korean bakery. The cream puffs are fire, not too sweet! Will add this to my list for sure

El Gordito Ramsey ..

Yelp
Absolutly wonderfuly delicious. It's been years of tracking down a good Korean bakery that took me back to when I first had that delicious custurd/cream filled saaa mich. I have tried many 13 different bakery and none tasted like that one with omma kim in granda hills. This place ads their own kick like a nut flavor can't make it out maybe hazelnut or pecan. Do your self a favor - try the little two slice bread with cream filling. And welcome to the addiction, yay we gonna get fat.

Yelp
The service was beyond what I could have hoped for as they were extremely accommodating. I was trying to help out my girlfriend with a last minute bday cake request for her daughter. I was pretty sure I was going to have to bake one myself but called a few places to see what my options were. I called them at 10:30 am and explained I needed a cheesecake with some custom decoration. Furthermore, I needed it by 3pm. I was pleasantly surprised when I was not laughed off the phone but they gave me multiple options and let me choose the time to pick it up. Additionally, the price was more reasonable than any other bakery that I had called for whatever was on hand with no customization. After having the bday plans pushed up on me, I called to see if there was anyway I could pick it up an hour early. I was flabbergasted when they said it was ready and I could pick it up right away. I arrived within 10 minutes and it was packaged in a beautiful and convenient box that was very easy for me to transport. They even threw in a box of bday candles and the icing on the cake (pun intended) was that they stopped me from rushing out the door to give me three free cream puffs! I could not recommend a business more, they were extremely warm and friendly Finally, and perhaps most importantly the cheesecake was a hit with everybody and tasted as good it looked. I am a tough critic as I make quite a few different varieties of cakes and cheesecakes. I will definitely be returning!

Yelp
Highly recommended place to go. Good small bakery and good prices. Friendly and nice staff.

Yelp
Been here a couple of times but always just got bread and other smaller goodies. This last weekend we got two cakes from here for our daughter's first birthday party - one for all of the guests, and another as her smash cake. We worked directly with Andrea on the orders and she was extremely friendly and helpful! She explained the different styles they had available and how many each size would serve. I went in thinking I just wanted a two-tiered cake, never have I ever thought about the size of each tier!! Silly me! I am now educated in cake sizes :D We ended up going with 8" by 12" for the main cake since we were expecting about 60 guests. The top tier was mocha and the bottom was fruit cake. As for the smash cake, I opted in with the naked cake look since I didn't want my daughter to have that much sugar for the first time in her life. It worked out really well because the colors of the fruits were exposed, giving it a fun look for a kid's birthday. Also, the custard filling wasn't overly sweet and the whipped cream was very light. She absolutely loved the cake (even though she went at it so gently we had to help her smash it :P) Manmi bakery was so accommodating and easy to work with. It was so easy!!! Highly recommend, from one sweet tooth to another :3

Yelp
My father in law order a mocha cake here and picked up Father's Day on Sunday Jun 21-20 Cake was so nice and decorated was perfect But when we cut the cake is was nasty ever it was old cake they just change the outside of cream from old left cake that they did not sell.. inside the filling cream was hard as rock and falling a part bread was so old I could tasted and nasty smell They trying to make money from old people I know everyone is having hard time this pandemic but not like this!!! .......

Aladdin S.

Yelp
Solid old school Korean bakery. Nothing fancy but quality is very high. Twisted sugar donut is best in ktown.
google avatar

Monica C.

Yelp
I went close to closing time so they were sold out of a lot but I did try the Chestnut Pie which was delicious. I was expecting something like a crunchy pecan pie but the crust was soft and bread like. The chestnut was finely chopped and crisp like an apple so it was a nice mix of texture. It reminded me of mooncake.
google avatar

Matt W.

Yelp
The best cream puffs I have ever had. I was surprised how big they were and how much filling was in each. Most puffs barely have any cream inside but Manmi's is differnt. Delicious bloght and fluffy breading and just the right of sweetness in the cream. Definitely getting more!

Hana B.

Yelp
Every time I've order cake here, it's been a hit! Not too sweet and perfectly nice and fluffy. The only gripe would be that I paid $7 extra to add strawberries and there weren't as many as I was hoping for inside the cake. But overall great place for a Korean cake! Also their breads are also quite yummy. This is an OG Korean bakery so you won't find fancy stuff here but everything is good!

Yelp
Pre-ordered a graduation cake for my husband's PhD party this past summer! The young guy at the front desk (the one who usu. writes on the cakes), was nice, but his writing and lack of care sucks! Aside from crooked, ugly, and not a consistent style, he messed up my spouse's name! My husband has two last names. He wrote: Last Name, First Name, Last ... and somehow misread his arrows (his own notes!!!) indicating the order of the names on that super small piece of order paper they have! I was so furious and demanded they give me back some of my money, if not all. Since the guy wasn't there his sister wanted to give me (2) free small pastries (as if that was suppose to make it all up!) When I realized they also messed up the design I paid extra for, she called her brother over the phone and they finally gave in and only gave me back money for that special design I wanted but not the mess up of the name. They told me to come in when the brother was there, but I had a newborn child, and my own doctoral exams to finish! I wish I could have gone back and gotten ALL of my money back!.. And the cake was also dry! Worst experience ever! Next time you bet I stuck with Porto's.
google avatar

Marco U.

Yelp
The owner was really nice. Everything looked delicious inside so we grabbed a bunch. We really liked the kokoro, red bean buns, and sausage buns. There is also a minimum on credit card, $10, so you have to grab a bunch. It's worth it though. Check in for a free cream puff!
google avatar

Yelp
Manmi Dang is a place that takes me back to my childhood. The small neighborhood bakery I used to visit in Seoul after a full body scrub at a public bathhouse. It was a ritual of mine to have a Soboro bread with a box of chocolate milk from Seoul Milk. With all the trendy/ fashionable bakeries that have come and gone, I find comfort in the way Manmi Dang has kept its look and taste the same. I've visited this place since 2001 and I believe it's still owned by the same family. Their bread collection is fresh and tasty - what more do you need? And if you're a fan of Soboro bread like me, you won't regret having one from here.
google avatar

Tina W.

Yelp
Most ppl don't know they have traditional korean shaved ice, surprisingly it's good! very traditional and tasty. Recommend when you are around neighborhood.
google avatar

Charlotte L.

Yelp
I needed a custom cake in a pinch. I contacted them on Wed. By sat I had a beautiful two tier cake for my dad's 70th bday that was perfectly sweet, spongey and filled with cream and fruit. It was nostalgic, delicious. They delivered it to the ktown venue for a fee, which was very helpful. It was a great experience.
google avatar

Kate R.

Yelp
Their mocha cake is so good! Not too sweet, just right! Also, they add free bread when you buy cakes!
google avatar

Anthony N.

Yelp
The korean grammy was sooo sweet! I wanted to adopt her as my own grammy! (my real grammy has dementia now and thinks everyone's trying to kill her so she ain't really that cute anymore) I love a good deal! 2 for 1 on day old desserts! I'm gonna eat them tomorrow anyway so its all the same to me! Yay! I had a cream bun thing that was pretty good.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm loving these cute little Mother-Daughter (similar to mom & pops) bakeries! FOUR STARS for Manmi Bakery! There is this cute little Korean bakery located on Western Avenue (next to BCD Tofu House) that offeres a variety of cookies and sweets at very reasonable prices. Breads, cookies, fancy pasteries, mochi, cupcakes, tarts, fancy cakes can all be purchased at this little shop. I ordered the iced coffee shaved ice - which I had NO CLUE what I was ordering, but I liked the picture. It was crushed ice topped with nescafe coffee, condesned milk, mochi balls, azuki beans (red), and some kind of crunch stuff (like rice crispies). I didn't know what to expect, but was so delighted with the refreshing dessert! It was HUGE! $5 bought me a double serving of dessert! We also got the palmier cookies and cupcakes, which were a bit hit! What I liked the most about this bakery is that it was run by a mother-daughter team. Both looked very close to each other and they were so friendly and polite. Great customer service with a smile! Food Grade: B+ Service Grade: A- Worth the Money Grade: B+ Overall Impression Grade: B+

Yelp
Super cool place!! We came here for our cake tasting, although it wasn't the right place for us, this place deserves the best review. Why? -Allen? I think that's what the guys name was that helped us. He was super sweet and professional -got there and they brought a little personal cake out for tasting -con-only one flavor and they use whipped cream, not very wedding cake like But, cake was amazingly good and so was the cream' just wasnt very wedding cake ish! -price is great here!' Super affordable -parking super easy and lots of space

Yelp
They made a HUGE cake that i loved for my sisters sweet 16 it was perfect delicious. He delivered at the perfect time too! Just amazing experience as soon as I walked in. Definitely found my go to bakery!

Yelp
BEST CREAMPUFFS IN TOWN - if you go, make sure to get a whole box Great customer service, speedy preparation, always in stock, will never let me down Better than Beard Papas
google avatar

James D.

Yelp
I love this place! Their fruit cakes are super tasty. They aren't too sweet and they are super light and fluffy. The custard inside is also really good. I also got the cream puffs and shaved ice. All of it was really good and reasonably priced. I've had shaved ice at other places in K-Town and they can really overcharge.
google avatar

Derek T.

Yelp
I love bakeries like these (mom and pop) for oh so many reasons. They're generally cheap and the quality is on point though there's generally less variety in breads and pastries. Anyway, maybe not for oh so many reasons but enough reasons. Their cream puffs are a must, you get a free one by checking in anyway, but buy more because they're really good. Aside from the cream puffs and assortment of breads they also have some nice fluffy cheesecake (I'm a sucker for asian cheesecakes). If you're looking for the cheapest deals, there's a basket of day old bread for half off though don't count on finding the best items like red bean or chestnut bread. There's a $10 minimum for credit cards so stock up on lots of bread or bring cash, but either way, you're in for a wonderful treat.
google avatar

Vanessa R.

Yelp
A Koreatown gem and LA secret to Korean bread. The best if you want authentic Korean pastries. They are famous for their Soboro bread. It's like a brioche bun with a crumbly top that's reminiscent of a peanut butter cookie. One of my favorite things about this place is that they make their bread with simple ingredients, no preservatives or added nonsense. They bake their bread fresh daily! Added goodness: cream puffs (in the fridge), rainbow cookies (for my son and myself), apple turnovers, cream cheese bread (reminds me of a cloud soft sugary bagel w/cream cheese), and to be honest pretty much every bread and pastry is solid. My tummy is always all smiles whenever I visit here!

Yelp
A huge thank you to this amazing bakery and a special shout-out to Allen who was helping all the way from Arkansas. I had been looking for a bakery to make me a picture cake and was able to do it 2 days before the event! Venmo approved and can tell you it's super legit. He went into detail as to how I wanted the cake, what candles and flavors. Which by the way the white fruit cake is by far the very best with fresh strawberries! I'm not even kidding our family isn't much into cakes because the fillings or flavor in general aren't always the best at some bakeries we've ordered from. We honestly almost ate the entire cake, the filling is the absolute best, they add their cream puff filling in between which makes it even 10x better. Anyway must try!!! Don't forget their delicious pastries before you walk out the door! Thank you MANMI BAKERY!

Yelp
I LOVE this bakery so much!! The flavors are amazing. Not overly sweet like cakes everywhere else. We always order our cakes from here for any occasion. They are always able to accommodate any design that I ask for. Simply the BEST bakery in LA.
