We all know parking downtown in a major city is difficult and costly, so Manny's isn't a place you just pop into for pizza. But if you find yourself in downtown Nashville for either work or play, and you get that craving for an authentic slice of New York pizza, this is the place to go!
Manny Macca, brother of Joey Macca (the genius behind Joey's House of Pizza), bakes up that same authenticity in the arcade shops downtown. These Brooklynites have blessed our town with incredible pizza pies for decades and locals are forever grateful.
I visited Manny's recently for the first time in a decade and was instantly reminded why this is one of the best pizzerias in the Southeast! Colloquially referred to by the locals as Arcade Pizza, or simply Manny's, you shuffle through a narrow gauntlet upon entry, squeezed between a wall and the old-school counter, Manny's domain. It is here you are expected to place your order quickly and succinctly, just like New York! When the line stretches far enough outside the restaurant, Manny barks at you if the door is held ajar. You either stand inside or outside, not both!
After paying at the cash register, you proceed to the dining room where the space mysteriously opens up, tucked behind other businesses that front the arcade, the vintage decor having changed little since the '80s. The focus here is pizza, not interior design, and yet despite the no frills ambiance you feel like you are someplace special about to eat something worthy.
The cheese at both Manny's and Joey's so perfectly complements the flavor of every slice, like the best pizzas in the Northeast. I don't know the secret to cheese that tastes substantially better than all those substandard pizzas out there, but Manny has mastered this art! The pepperoni is very fresh and all the toppings are stupendous! You won't be disappointed (unless you like that weird Chicago pizza).
