We booked to stay at Mantra Midtown Brisbane during a stop over in December as we were travelling with our daughter and specifically wanted an apartment so she could have her own space that was central CBD. We also chose this property because we regularly stay at Accor hotels and have always had positive experiences — unfortunately, this stay fell well below expectations.||The foyer was dark and uninviting, though I will say the reception staff on arrival were friendly and helpful, however, when we entered our allocated two-bedroom apartment we were genuinely taken aback by how unpleasant it was. The entire apartment had only three very small windows, resulting in little to no natural light or fresh air, the walls had visible marks and streaks running down them, the floor was sticky, and the TV cabinet was chipped and dirty, the tiny balcony was filthy, with cigarette ash and sticky drink residue still on the table. ||The lounge was a weathered black two-seater that didn’t even accommodate the three of us comfortably. Overall, the apartment felt dirty, uninviting, and nothing like what was advertised — especially for $275 per night excluding parking.||We politely raised our concerns with reception, and the staff member, who was a fill-in staff member from another property, was clearly shocked by the condition described, she kindly changed our room and allowed us to inspect the replacement first, which we appreciated. ||The second apartment was much better at first glance — cleaner, with natural light, larger doors that opened to a large open balcony and a lounge that seated all three of us. However, there were still major issues: no natural light in the bathrooms, a very cramped ensuite that my husband and I could barely fit into together, and the main bedroom had a double bed, not the queen bed advertised, with a mattress that was extremely uncomfortable, resulting in very little sleep.||The following day we decided to change hotels, after comparing options, we found a 1 bedroom suite at a luxury hotel with far superior service, amenities, and comfort for not much more than what we were paying here. I called reception at 1:52pm to discuss our options for checking out early, I wasn't expecting too much from the call but hoped there was a chance to recoup at least some of the charges or even have our parking covered, unfortunately, the staff member I spoke with was rude and dismissive, showed no interest in our feedback, and offered no attempt to assist. I was told, “You can leave whenever you want, but you’ll be charged the full night because it’s 2pm.” When I pointed out it wasn’t yet 2pm, she replied that it “would be after 2pm by the time you officially check out and return the keys.”||Exhausted after several long travel days and very little sleep, we gave up and moved on, absorbing the cost of the second night. Had the receptionist shown even a small amount of care or willingness to work with us, this experience may not have left such a sour taste.||Overall, this stay was extremely disappointing and well below the standard we expect from an Accor-branded property. Unfortunately, this experience has also left us feeling wary about booking with Accor again, which is something we never expected to say given our previous positive experiences. We would not return to, or recommend, Mantra Midtown Brisbane based on this stay.
