We came here and loved the experience. Apparently we came on an annual festival for Mother's Day — overall everything was good. Note to self: Interesting coffee cup lid -- they look like fortifications built in Belgium from the old days (google "Brialmont fort designs").

I visited the place a few days before the new year and it is my favourite roaster from now onward. Amazing coffee beans. The place has a rustic charm and it is located in the Bernardo Valley in a beautiful winery. Whether it’s the ambiance or the coffee, this place is worth paying the visit. I ordered a cappuccino and latte with Avocado toast. Only one thing that I didn’t like was the very sour pickled onion on an Avocado toast. It doesn’t compliment the flavour palette of any coffee based drinks. So probably don’t order it together. But overall, I am going to be visiting this place as often as I can.

Google
Cute coffee shop on the beautiful Bernardo Winery site. Got their tumeric ginger latte with oat milk and it was delicious! I'm craving it again so another trip is in the near future. It was $4.50 so prices are still reasonable. The guy who helped us was very friendly and it was definitely great service.

Google
Great coffee shop on the Bernardo winery property. They’ve got Great Wall murals of workers and prospectors from back in the day. Good coffee and great pastries. They get their pastries from a well known Escondido bakery. The almond croissant was a home run. Really fantastic. Staff was friendly and quick . They have a decent selection of breakfast sandwiches and well. Ample seating inside the coffee shop and in the alley behind as well. They have Wi-Fi in the coffee shop as well which is helpful being all the way out in the boonies. Great coffee Team!!

Google
The highlight should be coffee bean! They have all kind of fresh roasted coffee bean to fit your taste buds, but also surprisingly good breakfast option, very nice lok toast and avocado toast. When you done enjoy your breakfast, you can bring your coffee with you and walk around the Bernardo winery, the plaza is old but nice and tide.

Google
I love that this shop is at the winery! Didn’t know that until recently. Great to have in the area. Friendly people, a really cute shop, and lots of wonderful outdoor seating all around. Some indoor as well. The menu isn’t huge but it’s high-quality, and the coffee is delicious. Definitely recommend stopping by.

If you’re looking for an absolute perfect place to have the best cup of coffee, go to Manzanita. The winery is absolutely beautiful and a perfect place to sit and relax or have a coffee day and to even bring the kids to run around! We love this place and the coffee!

Google
Nice place to steal from the day to hang out in this quaint surrounding. Service is good, my vanilla latte was not too sweet, which is right for me. The almost croissant is decent, lots of filling, good almond flavor. This is right next to the main gate of the Bernardo Winery, it's connected to the grounds of the winery. We came on a Friday morning, they happened to be having their weekly farmer's market and artists isle. Quite a few people were there, some people were already waiting for the lunch next door. Recommend.

Yelp
Food/Drinks: 10/10 Service: 8/10 Ambiance: 8/10 Our pastry and americanos were really good. They truly exceeded my expectations. It feels like a getaway from the busy life of SD. It was peaceful and good quality food/drinks.

Yelp
I went here with my sister after mass. The ambiance is lovely and such a great vibe with relaxing music, cute decor, and greenery sprucing up the place. Unfortunately, the food and service were sub-par. The avocado toast had half the toppings on it - definitely not what I saw in the earlier pics. The whole milk in the mocha tasted like it was spoiled. When I let the lady behind the counter know and asked if I could get another mocha with maybe different milk she said that I must not know what coffee tastes like! And proceeded to tell me they roast the beans and roasted in-house, etc. I let her know that yes, I have tasted coffee before and this milk tastes bad. She was very condescending and even after I got my new cup of coffee with almond milk she proceeded to tell me that people have told her previously that the milk tastes bad, but that's because they're not used to their roasts. I mean...what?

Blake C.

Yelp
It's a coffee shop inside R.B. Winery. They make a very good latte and I really like the environment with all the different sitting areas. Makes for a nice morning.

Yelp
Very good and affordable coffee and smoothies, tucked away next to gardens of flowers and grape vines in the beautiful RB. Living here for years and I had no idea about this place until now, very modern meets rustic coffee shop. I have never had a better iced mocha until today, I didn't have to add additional cocoa or anything, simply perfection. My husband loved his coffee and the kids loved their very berry smoothies.

Deborah R.

Yelp
The Bernardo Winery Village exceeded my expectations and I wouldn't have found it except for looking for a local coffee shop to try. The coffee was good and their avocado toast was yummy. Definitely go on Friday mornings to enjoy the farmers market too.

Emma S.

Yelp
My family and I came to Manzanita Roasting Company today for a girls get together. I had the Mama's Marmalade toast and a brown butter latte both id which were delicious! My sister had the protein bowl (with no bacon) and said it was awesome. My niece had the spinach frittata and an iced green tea. My cousin opted for the avocado toast and a vanilla latte. The Mama's marmalade looked so good, my niece decided to order one for herself! The coffee shop is so cute! We sat in there for what felt like over an hour. So inviting!

Yelp
Kickstarting my day with a hot latte, which felt like a cozy little hug in this fall weather. The chill vibes here are simply irresistible. Picture coffee bean bags scattered on the floor, old newspapers used as decor, photos of coffee farmers, fresh-cut flowers from their garden, and passion fruit vines peeking through the door. The rustic barn atmosphere is so warm and relaxing. The service was quick too. You order, sit down, and they call your drink when it's ready. Plus, with a winery next door and all the cute little shops, it's the perfect escape!

Mei T.

Yelp
I had a cappuccino and enjoyed it very much! The line was long, but it was definitely worth the wait. The friendly baristas were very quick to crank out drinks one after another.

Sha M.

Yelp
This place is great! Love the location & the menu. I met a girlfriend there right when they opened. Had a lovely time. Cannot wait to go back & would recommend to everyone to visit!

Mike P.

Yelp
Sweet spot for coffee and light breakfast. What's really cool about this place is the winery shops and venue that you can wander around after your coffee. Service was pretty quick on a Saturday morning. We enjoyed the browned butter latte and a drip coffee black. The egg sandwich was tasty. I was expecting more pastries to be on display. They had a small pastry case next to the register and seemed more like an afterthought than a prime focal point. Plenty of seating inside and out on the grounds. This is located on the Bernardo Winery found in 1889, the oldest continuously operated winery in So. Cal.

Melyna S.

Yelp
When we first got in there we're plenty of people inside enjoying their coffees etc. Unfortunately we had to wait a long while before someone came out, in fact there was another customer needing something that basically went to the back area to call someone out. No bell or alert system when someone walks in and the staff is in the back of the house. There were 2 people back there; they must have been cleaning or something because after ordering our drinks - someone who seemed like a manager walked in and asked if they were good to close early. There wasn't any signs or anything saying they would be closing early, so who knows. I ordered a brown butter latte and it was pretty good, we also got their chai and that was flavorful. The kids got hot chocolate and liked it too. Our drinks weren't bad but the service was lacking. We don't live close and when we travel we like to try local places and drove to this location after leaving the Safari Park on our way back to San Diego. So it was a one and done stop for us and the first and last impression was just meh.

Jo P.

Yelp
Great coffee and scones Nice staff. Wish breakfast menu bigger! Jo P. Love the hearts & leaf design on my latte

Roman B.

Yelp
Nice scenery, staff is nice, and there is plenty of seating in the area. Nice walking path while drinking your beverage of choice. Drinks were made very quickly, which I found super strange. Decent selection of hot/cold drinks. Chai flavoring was very faint. If you like it more "impacting flavor," i suggest asking for more chai flavoring. Brown Butter wasn't too bad. Like I mentioned above, it's super strange how fast everything was finished right after paying. I'd come back to just try the drip coffee or cold brew.

Sandy C.

Yelp
Love the vibe and place went on a Friday they had farmers market that day. The coffee were great

Dana R.

Yelp
We arrived shortly after opening. There was a somewhat long line and only one person working. The barista took the orders and made the drinks and food. It was a slow process. We ordered a browned butter latte and a honey latte. The coffees were "mid." We were going to order breakfast food but the line behind us was out the front door. So to be considerate of them we did not. The drinks were not very hot. Didn't need a sleeve at all. The place was really cold. I could see the thermostat and it was reading 56 degrees. Too cold for me. Later a couple more employees showed up. The little village the coffee shop is placed in is part of the historical winery. It's a cute little place. Parking is at a minimum.

Tara K.

Yelp
Been here several times but always forget to snap a photo. The coffees and food are always great! I usually get either a latte or flat white. They do a beautiful job with frothing as well. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating or you can walk around the winery!

Shelby S.

Yelp
I love checking out new coffee spots and stumbled upon this place over the weekend! We went in around 4pm on a Saturday, and I was wondering if they were already closed, as the chairs had all been flipped up onto the tables (I'd assume to be able to clean under). However, the staff said they were still open. Odd that they still had an hour until close but took away any seating options for customers. They were out of the brown butter latte I was hoping to try, so opted for a regular non fat latte. It was great- tasted fresh and came out quickly. I love their location by the winery. I'm sure it's a popular spot. We had to park pretty far down the street, as the lot was full. I saw they roast their own beans, so I'll be back to try those next time I'm in town!

Tina K.

Yelp
Good coffee but not so special. Barista and was very nice! Grab a cup of coffee and go straight to the beach!

Liz P.

Yelp
Thank goodness for street parking because the parking lot is small (and the back parking lot is a little far away) but even if you don't stay in the cafe, this area is adorable and the coffee was great! Although, the lavender latte definitely didn't taste like artificial lavender...but like a real plant. It was a bit too strong but gorgeous milk art and still tastey.

Hossein J.

Yelp
On my recent visit, I tried the Latte twice and it was great. The food was so so. In my opinion it lacked flavor and salt. The pastry was good for sure not the best. Considering where it's located I am giving them a 5 star if they were in a more hip area. I would definitely go back if I am in the area. The service is fast and friendly. 5 for coffee 4 for food and pastry 5 for Ambiance 5 for Service

Maria C.

Yelp
Got the Vanilla latte with breakfast sandwich with egg cheddar and bacon. Vanilla latte was light and creamy. You can taste the light notes of the coffee could go a little stronger, but the flavor is there. Would probably request it to be extra hot next time. Sandwich was standard, nothing fancy and tastes good. Also tried the Americano and it was a nice bold taste not too bitter, just right. Will come back again to try other drinks. Also ordered a lemon tart, a bit expensive for something small, but still good. I appreciate that they serve the drinks in a mug vs the paper cup. Choice of music didn't fit with the ambience, but probably the baristas pick. Baristas we're quick and meant service. Overall place and look is a cross between old town feel with a splash of hipster vibe. Plenty of seating outside and inside. Nice place to study, read or a coffee date. Will come back again.

Tammie W.

Yelp
Such a cute coffee shop tucked away in what I consider to be the middle of nowhere but near a lot of destinations in RB. Manzanita sits back from the main road alongside a winery, a gift shop, a candle maker and many more shops. If you're wondering what's behind the big parking lot, you've hit the jackpot. The hubby ordered an iced vanilla almond milk latte while I ordered an iced minty green tea. They have a brown butter syrup which sounded very yummy and I regretted not ordering it when I saw the couple behind me order a latte with that syrup. The outdoors is spectacular and so inviting and serene sitting underneath an umbrella or in the sun while you listen to the birds chirping around you and the patrons at the restaurant next door having a good time.

Suhani P.

Yelp
To start with the positives, this coffee shop is located in the cutest village of shops. There is plenty of parking and a lot to do. The coffee shop itself has plenty of seating inside and you also have a lot of options outside. Unfortunately I was not impressed with my coffee at all. I ordered the most simple drink (iced vanilla latte) and it was mediocre. I couldn't taste anything but bitterness of the espresso. The staff wasn't particularly interested when helping us. It seems like their drinks and food are actually really good based off their reviews, but I don't feel that much effort was put into the drink. Not sure if I would return.

Jeanie P.

Yelp
Cute coffee shop, been here a few times. I like how the shop doors are open and decorations are modern. Customer service is ok, they forgot to make my avocado toast. I had to ask for it but ended up getting a refund. What was funny was when I went to ask about it after 15 mins (it wasn't busy) one of the girls was eating a avocado toast behind the counter lol Also the brown butter latte is good I didn't get a design on my latte LOL I wanted to post for the gram but never mind lol but all in all decent average coffee shop

Andrea W.

Yelp
Super friendly service and amazing coffee. Small coffee shop inside Bernardo Winery. They also sell the beans and have some pastries. Highly recommend!

Carol B.

Yelp
You can't go wrong with the Brown Butter! We had it both hot and on ice and delicious either way! Worth stopping in before wine tasting, or for a cup to go with you for the drive home.

Carmen V.

Yelp
Me most enchanting coffee shop I have seen lately. When hipster meets country you get s lovely green painted walls with hanging plants, chairs with cowboy imagery and amazing coffee and, oh, the pastries! I loved everything, from the patio, the building itself, the interior decor and of course the vibe and the coffee. I can't believe this is inside the pretty old winery in Rancho Bernardo. This will be my coffee shop to go to get some work done too! Very peaceful entourage.

Lydia Z.

Yelp
Very tasty honey lavender latte and cute outdoor vibes. Plenty of lunch foods which I will try next time! Friendly staff.

Michelle K.

Yelp
I'd been to the Bernardo Winery years ago, but I don't remember this place being there. Small parking lot but plenty on the street. If you're not familiar with the Bernardo Winery, there are lots of cute shops in a plaza area and then the tasting room is in the back. This coffeehouse is the first shop on the left when you enter. The coffee was delicious and the food was really good - the microgreens and pickled onions were a great touch. We went on a Sunday so the restaurant had live piano. Plenty of outdoor seating throughout the winery area, lots of shade, and a relaxed atmosphere. No dogs allowed at the Bernardo Winery, but as a dog owner I will say it's nice to take a break and enjoy the calmness of the venue!

Virginia M.

Yelp
Wow!!! What a hidden gem, an oasis!!! Such a peaceful, serene and tranquil place to really enjoy a coffee or tea. We were cordially greeted by the barista and shortly after we got our delicious drinks. We ordered a lavender latte and a turmeric ginger latte. Both delicious and fresh. We also peeked into the kitchen and ended up buying 2 loaves of Ciabatta bread. Right out of the oven. Enjoyed every bite. Please see the short video of the oven. There's adorable little shops in the premises if you rather walk around and explore. Lot's of sitting spots with very secluded tables, like crooks and crannies.

Cammy N.

Yelp
A delightful coffee shop! We have been here twice now! The first time, we got an iced turmeric ginger latte with oat milk and no sugar. It was awesome they can make some drinks, like this one without sugar and just with their homemade syrups. It was a delicious and refreshing drink and still great with no added sugar. This time, we got a chai tea latte, also with no sugar and almond milk and a mint mocha with almond milk, and less sweet. The mint mocha does have a syrup with sweetener in it, so the sugar can only be reduced. We also got some delectable lemon cranberry scones that were so delicious, crumbly and fresh! The prices are pretty reasonable with my chai tea latte $4.50 before I added almond milk ($1.00). It's also a great venue as you can walk around the winery, visit the Farmer's Market if it's a Friday, from 9 a.m.- 12 p.m., visit the tasting room, Kitchen restaurant, gelato shop or food trucks if they are present. The Farmer's Market was also pretty amazing when we came on a Friday, with artisan breads, homemade tasty baklava, food stands, frozen handmade tamales with many varieties, a farmer's stand with fresh apples, tangerines and more!

Gillian P.

Yelp
Visited Friday following Thanksgiving day 2023. The winery was not too busy. Went up to counter and ordered a flat white and a regular drip coffee. 3 young girls behind the counter who did not stop talking to one another. Paid and went to end of counter to receive our coffee. The flat white arrived, the regular drip did not. The girls continued to talk to one another as colleague and I stood there. Eventually, one of the girls noticed us and said 'have you got your other coffee?' Would we be standing there if we had? Received the coffee, no apology from the server and she commenced talking to her pals. Noticed trash and a wet floor where the coffee was being made - very off putting. Won't be going there again.

Emily O.

Yelp
A San Diego hidden gem! My family and I absolutely love Manzanita. It's situated in a lovely winery nestled in a quiet community that you won't even believe is there as you're driving to it. There's even a farmers market there Friday mornings if you're lucky enough to stop by at that time. I love all of their mochas, especially the iced lavender mocha. Certainly a 6 star establishment!

Audrina G.

Yelp
A hidden gem. Loved this cute coffee place with peaceful ambiance. Their coffee and food selection was great.

Janet C.

Yelp
So laid back, quick service, and delicious food.. served with a smile. Love this place. Ambiance very relaxed.

Amy K.

Yelp
This gem is located inside Rancho Bernardo winery. It takes time to find so be prepared to have an adventure. When you walk in towards the winery, make a right at the T intersection away from tasting room. Open from 8a to 5p. Surrounded by ferns, manzanita branches and old cowboy images on the wall. We ordered ginger turmeric chai latte and lavender latte. They were excellent and under $5. Also tried two food items spinach quiche and the egg, cheese sandwich. Quiche is amazing. Egg n cheese sandwich had some delicious seasonings which was enough for me but Bf wanted more salt. What a nice place to chill on the weekend and walk around the garden afterwards.

Diana R.

Yelp
Great cafe located inside Bernardo Winery. They have a nice inside area furnished with eclectic upcycled furniture. Their outside is spacious with plenty of tables with umbrellas for a hot, sunny day. A great place to relax and when the morning is over, you can switch from their delicious brewed coffees to wine at the winery located on site. There are cute shops to stroll into as well

Virginia S.

Yelp
What a cute little spot! I've been to this winery before, but never took the time to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee here. The baristas were great, they roast their beans right on site and have a variety of ways to enjoy their coffee. The barista steered me towards one her favorites...cortado with macadamia milk (so smooth, thicker than almond but not as much as oat), with honey/lavender. It was sweeter than I would have liked, so I don't feel like I can accurately rate their coffee beans themselves (a little overpowered by the honey/lavender). But the drink itself was deLicious!!! Smooth and balanced and fresh. I'm sure I'll be back again! Dog/kid friendly, plenty of outdoor seating and easy acccess to restrooms and area to walk around. Quiet but with music in the background and started to get busier by lunch time. They have some food here too, as well as tea for non--coffee people.

Charmaine F.

Yelp
Decided to try this spot as we live in the area and our neighbors recommended coming here. The food was great-we got avocado toast and a protein bowl. We came later in the day so there weren't many pastry options left but got a blueberry muffin which was okay nothing special and a little dry. The customer service is the reason for a lower rating. There were no other customers in the shop other than us. No greeting when coming in or even walking up to the register. Or no "do you have any questions" as we were standing there for a while deciding what we want. The barista was pretty rude-we ordered two brown butter lattes. Both lukewarm. And my husbands latte had absurd amounts of thick brown butter or syrup at the bottom that when he took a gulp he spit it out because your not expecting chunks of brown butter in your mouth half way through your drink. When comparing to mine I just had a small teaspoon at the bottom kind of what you expect at the end of your coffee. My husband went up to barista and asked if that was normal (even though mine was not like that) and he was like "yeah that's 100% normal" very rudely and with a defensive attitude. My husband left it at that and didn't argue. Overall, the unwelcoming atmosphere and the attitude of the barista and the unpleasantness of my husbands drink is enough to likely not come back.

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Had a blueberry muffin and tea. It was delicious. Love the location and the staff so friendly too. I met a client for a meeting and it was great place to have conversation with lots of seating areas.

Johnny N.

Yelp
Nice little coffee shop located in the Bernardo Winery. The wife and I enjoyed a double shot of espresso which tasted good. It had a hint of sourness to it at the initial taste which I don't much care for but it ended up going down smoothly with a nice bold aftertaste. The almond croissant also tasted delicious. The coffee house's charm lies in it western decor and location within the winery and museum. We were able to have a nice stroll in the winery and visit some nice boutique shops afterwards. Also received a brief history lesson about Rancho Bernardo just for stopping for some coffee!!!

Andrea R.

Yelp
LOVE this coffee shop! Such friendly baristas, very welcoming atmosphere/people, and of course tasty coffees. It's the perfect quiet place to work, study, catch up with friends or curl up with a good book! Yes, they have WiFi! Love how the outdoor seating makes you feel like you're at a Parisian cafe, and don't worry - they have umbrellas so no need to fear a sunburn!!! P.S. they have a Farmer's Market Friday mornings!

Frances A.

Yelp
Who knew nestled in this neighborhood there would be a cute winery with coffee shop? Thankful for Yelp leading me here when I was working in the area. Wow it was a hot day, yet I still ended up getting a hot almond milk latte haha. The latte had a nice roasted flavor, but like most coffee places, I did not like the almond milk used. But, I am spoiled everyday because my local coffee shop makes their own almond milk which brings any espresso drink to a higher level. I also purchased a kombucha here that did not have too many grams of sugar, yet was really refreshing at the end of my work day. Customer service was friendly.

Steph L.

Yelp
Small parking lot but the coffee shop is right next to it. Vanilla latte - good, perfect sweetness. Drink wasn't too hot. Butter latte - this was okay. Not really a fan of their butter coffee. Bacon egg sandwich- good! Very flavorful, loved the crispy ness.

Andrew F.

Yelp
I haven't ordered any coffee here before, but I have got the hot chocolate every time I went to December Nights at Bernardo Winery. The staff has always been friendly, and their hot chocolate is the perfect drink for a cold night.

Carlos P.

Yelp
Coffee beans are bad tasting like old not fresh, the coffee served at the coffee shop is different in my opinion. Don't buy the beans I warned you..We purchased A bag of EL GAUCHO it tastes like a rag with mold smells YUk we threw out out have a good day.

Francisco D.

Yelp
Me and my beautiful, exquisite, lovely and incredible wife visited this quaint coffee shop and had the most delicious cups of coffee we've ever had. The place is located in a very pretty winery where my wife and I enjoyed sitting on a nearby bench swing for hours talking about anything we could, no doubt having the energy from the Manzanita coffee. Thank you for the experience!

Lauren K.

Yelp
This is the best coffee I've had in a very long time. After going to 2 other places in town on a hunt for a decent cup of coffee my partner and I stopped by this place and he ordered the cappuccino and I ordered a cortado both were great and after dumping out 3 drinks between us over the past forty minutes in this hunt we were relieved to know there IS in fact decent coffee in this town, better than decent, actually superb. A coffee shop you can get a straight espresso or Americano at without sugar being needed to mask the flavor of burnt old and watered down espresso being extracted over poorly packed tamps.. I'm overjoyed to have found this spot today.
