The Best Bars and Restaurants in Saint-Henri | Eater Montreal

"Created by the same folks behind the Aliments Yasolo grocery store next door, this Afro-Québécois restaurant serves up a handful of tasty African dishes with a touch of North American influence. While it will eventually serve as a sit-down restaurant, Maquis Yasolo is currently focusing on to-go items, like a jerk burger with a side of either plantain or yucca fries." - Eater Staff

The food here is amazing! My fish was perfectly seasoned and the plantains are to die for. This is the perfect place to try something different, they have options for everybody. Service was very warm and kind, you could feel a sense of community inside. My only suggestion is to tidy up the entrance (out on the street) a bit. Other than that, everything’s perfect. I’ll definitely come back.

The food was amazing! Had the ivorian fish and the poulet de mayo, both were great. Along with the Bissap and ginger drinks. 10/10

Food is very tasty and the server was nice. Her meal recommendations were on point. I was pleasantly surprised, as it was my first time trying this food, it felt very authentic. The pricing was a bit higher than I expected but the portions were of good size so it made it a non-issue. I would go again!

Google
the lady that served us was very nice and welcoming. the jerk chicken was mediocre for the price, but not necessarily bad. the fufu texture was off and not sticky like it’s supposed to be. the beed was very stiff and the flavor of beef that was served with it was very strong.

From when you reach the outside, you feel welcomed from its colours and look. Upon walking inside, you feel a sense of familiarity, not just welcomed but embraced with a warm hug from someone close. The décor with the art around is truly captivating, especially the painting with figures on it. The food was very enjoyable, the bissap was truly a touch of warmth and pleasure enrobed to feel like being on a cloud, especially with the extra touch of mint. Nancy's charismatic personality truly sparked well, as it also was quite radiant, the music was also a nice touch putting it all in a pedestal of its own, truly.

Loved this place! I had the fish with plantain and the flavour was good. The peppers on top had a great flavour. My partner had the chicken and said the chicken had a good flavour. Portion sizes were good too, we got an entire plate of plantain as a side. The place was clean, service was friendly and would definitely go back to try other items

The food is tasty, and the service is nice and friendly. The decorations and music make the air fluid in the space soft and gentle. I met this restaurant because of the sudden autumn rain, but it made me treasure the small sparkling lucky moment of spending a chill time here.

Yelp
Maquis Yasolo brings together great ambience, great staff, and great food. Though there was a language barrier, the staff were very friendly and helpful. As for the food, it was superb. I got L'Abidjanaise with a side of Jolof, and I have to say that their sauces are superb. The Mayo in particular was perfectly spiced, and although the fish was bony, the seasoning was just that good. I also got the mikate (beignets). These should definitely be shared. A fantastic restaurant if you want some West African flavor.

Yelp
We had an incredible experience at this restaurant! It felt home cooked with love. The inside was beautifully decorated, colorful, and inviting. The staff were very friendly and supportive. The woman even offered to translate the menu for us and helped to accommodate my dietary restrictions. They constantly checked in on us to make sure that we were enjoying the food. Most importantly, each dish was delicious. We ordered the following: fried bread with fish as appetizer (so fun and delicious), moussaka with fufu, pork jerk with plantains, and beignets (small round dense donuts). We will happily return again the next time that we are in Montreal!!

Yelp
I really hate that I have to write this review as we really wanted to like this restaurant given that it's one of the few places serving food from West Africa. My family is Ghanaian and we were so excited, yet horrendously let down. Unfortunately, we had a horrible experience dining here. My family of three ordered one entree each (fish, chicken, and beef dish), a side of plantains, two hot teas, and one bissap juice. The drinks came out within the first half hour but we waited nearly 90 minutes to receive our food. About 40 minutes after ordering we were told they were out of beef. We were asked our order no less than three times. We didn't have any substitutions or changes to the menu options. When the food arrived, nearly everything was scorched/burnt. The plantains were burnt. We couldn't get beef and instead were given pork. The pork was terribly dry and the sauce that came with it had a scorched flavor. You could see dark black specs throughout the sauce indicating it has been burnt. The fish was flavorful but also overcooked (dry). And most sadly, the jollof rice also tasted scorched. It was as if someone burned the rice at the bottom of the pot. And instead of cooking a new pot they just tried to serve the rice towards the top, but the burnt flavor had already penetrated throughout. We even spotted a slight pinkness in the chicken. Everything about the food was reprehensible. While the wait staff were quite nice, they simply could not make up for the fact that we waited entirely too long for dismal food. Nothing we ate was good, or barely edible. Unfortunately, customers continued to come in after us. They, too, began looking around wondering why folks were waiting for food. The only good thing to come out of this restaurant is their bissap tea and juice! That was a delight. Maybe sell that at a coffee shop or juice bar? The place also has some lovely art and decor touches. Again, I really wanted to enjoy this place after seeing the reviews and write ups, but whoever is back there cooking has no business serving food to the general public. The pictures were terribly deceiving.

Yelp
Came from out of town and happened upon this restaurant. So glad we decided to go in, don't often have access to West African restaurants in the west coast of the United States. All the food we had was great and definitely authentic. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Got to try their chicken plate recently at a local neighbourhood festival (Sud-Best). Was soooo good, the chicken had tons of flavour and was super moist with a crispy sticky skin. The salad was crisp and fresh with tasty dressing and the home fries on the side were super delicious as well. Looking forward to exploring the resto's full menu!
