We made a special trip to drive into Salt Lake City to have lunch here. Fighting the road construction, and lack of parking, we finally made our way to the 6th floor of the New Hyatt Regency, and the Mar Muntanya restaurant.
Walking into the restaurant we noticed there was only one other table with patrons. Note to self: this is a RED flag. We were seated at a table next to a window at which the hostess killed a Mayfly that was flying around in front of our table. We were handed a lunch menu that was hard to read because the ink was falling of the menu.
The waitress/hostess came over and asked if we wanted anything to drink. I wanted a wine, but didn't recognize any of the choices, not to worry... they have SAMPLES!
I am so glad they did, as the Deloach I was going to order was just plain awful. It is bottom shelf for sure, even a box wine tastes better than this. I then tried the El Castro De Valtuille, which wasn't good either. I just ordered the Pinot Grigio and called it a day. I've had better wine for less than what they charge.
The lunch menu is very, very limited. We were going to order a couple of appetizers, but the Beet Salad that we wanted to order was "Out of Stock" also the West Coast Oysters were a No go. I understand not having the oysters, but salad? Come on!
We just settled on the Tuna. For our main course we ordered a Mountain Patty Melt, and a Pollo Frito Sandwich, and then we waited, waited, waited, waited, waited and waited some more. I'm not exaggerating. When our sandwiches came out it was a HUGE disappointment, Gordan Ramsey would be so appalled with the lack of quality control here. Hey Chef did you not see what you plated? and waitress, did you not say to the chef "I can't serve this?" NO, they did not.
When I picked up my chicken sandwich, the bottom of the bun was so soggy it was falling apart and COLD. I took one bite, and had to have a new one made, and then the wait started... again. At one point it took so long to get a freshly made chicken sandwich, (at this point we were the only customers in the restaurant) I turned on my stop watch to see how long it took for a freshly made sandwich.
When my sandwich came out, I laughed in disgust. (look at my picture I took) What little chicken there was, was so dried out with burnt breading surrounding it. I thought I was going to break a tooth. Wendy's has a better chicken sandwich! The patty melt sandwich wasn't any better. The meat was dried out and tasted like it had been cooked days ago. It was not only dried out, but barley warm. What is going on? This is supposed to be a fine dining restaurant, and it's an expensive one at that.
On the menu it said all sandwiches are Served with a Simple Green Salad. Yeah Right. Just look at my pictures I took see how it's plated? NO salad anywhere to be had. Talk about presentation....
Not only is the food terrible, we were seated next to a window that was lined with Mayfly's. At first I thought they were misquotes, but they are Mayfly's. Tons of them. Dead ones lining the window seals, and the live ones were along the seams of the windows. As we looked out on the view I noticed there were dead Mayfly's on the tables outside. Uggg.
We were making plans to go have dessert at the nearby coffee shop, when the waitress brought us a complimentary bread pudding. Not sure why.
This has got to be one of my top 5 worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. Just awful.
